A little cut and paste has told me that the first one is The Triplets of Belleville and the other one is a foreign film I have never heard of.

The Ring
Great acting, great effects, pretty cool story, bit cheesy but overally, not bad at all ! Made me jump a couple of times
3.5
The Ring Two
Meh... To be honest I thought the acting was pretty bad, the story made sense though, and damn, the sequel was 10 times cheesier than the first movie ! Didn't scare me at all, also. Brilliant special effects once again, though.
2.5

I can't see your pics, therefore I don't know what movies you're talking about. :)
The Triplets of Belleville and In The Mood for Love. Two movies well worth watching.

Glad you liked that much. I watched, but I didn't connect that much with the characters to think it's the best ever made.

I did connect with the characters but understand if people don't. I just found the mixture of the simple story, the characters and the visuals to be perfect. Wong Kar Wai, Tony Leung & Maggie Cheung are all favourites of mine so that helps to.

In The Mood for Love is a well liked movie among critics, in fact, it was rated the greatest movie of the last 20 years at the last Sign and Sound poll.

Haven't seen In the Mood for Love, but The Triplets of Belleville is fantastic. I quite like the animation in it too.

This is the end - 8.5/10 I found this hilarious, better than Pineapple express which i wasnt too fussed on but probably needs a rewatch after seeing this. Danny McBride was brilliant!!
Killer Joe - 6/10 - Cant really decide on this one, was good but could have been better. Thought the casting was all wrong with the daughter and Emile Hirsch. Other than that McConaughey was actually decent was watch.

In the Mood For Love

I only rank it 4 out of 5 because I didn't understood all the film, but I still had a great time watching it. It's definitly a movie I will rewatch and probably end up liking more. Giving a movie that I didn't understand the ending at all 4 out of 5 is pretty impresive. The music in this movie is beautiful
You should certainly read some reviews about it then. The ending is really touching.
I have to say that it's my 9th favorite film of all time because of the same reasons you liked it, though. Visually, musically and atmospherically it is a true masterpiece!

Au hasard Balthazar (Robert Bresson, 1966) - http://www.movieforums.com/images/popcorn/5box.gif - The film is the world in an hour and a half.
One of the 7 Bresson films I'd award a full rating to.

Yeah, you will love it then Newt. Some other really funny cameo's in it plus Michael Cera is hilarious.
Stranger than Fiction

In what can be called Will Ferrell's first "light drama", he play Harold Crick, an IRS official who begins to hear a voice in his head, which happens to be the voice of a female author, Karen Eiffel (Emma Thompson). When he hears her predict his death, he goes on an "adventure" in order to find out what is going on.
The majority of the film is quite charming and sweet, but it has its difficulties. The main problem lies with Maggie Gyllenhaal's character, who is essentially a caricature of a real woman and almost perfectly fits the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" stock character, designed to make Will Ferrell feel better about himself. Their relationship feels forced and lacks an ounce of chemistry. You'd think in a film about the inter-connectivity of humanity, that the simplest of relationships could be done right.
Not bad, but not good either.

If you're looking for lolicon kinky tentacle hentai porn, don't watch it. Otherwise, give it a chance!
Guaporense I forgive you all your rants about the greatness of this film. At times it feels kinda soppy... alright, I'm not going to lie. I loved it.
As for now I give it maybe exaggerated 4.5. I have to give it some time and see how it will resonate with me after some time.
PS: I swear to God I thought that Kamaji is a pedophile at the beginning.

I watched The Lone Ranger in theaters recently, and I have to say that I enjoyed it much more than what critics made me think that I was going to. There were flaws with it, and moments were boring at some points, however, I think that it came through thanks to the outlandishness that could be seen throughout the movie.

Wall Street - 7.5/10 I thought it was a pretty solid movie, and definitely very informative about the stock market. Also Michael Douglas was a fantastic ruthless villain.

Ginger Snaps 8/10 I've been watching a lot of extreme horror lately but this reminded me of the horror films from the 80's I loved. Good stuff.

The Graduate - 9/10
Really well done. Hoffman's change in character is played well. I never realized how depressing Paul Simon's music can be. I've been meaning to see this for a long time, especially since I bought and watched Rumor Has It (modern rom-com movie in a different, lower-but-still-good league) which is about the movie and book The Graduate and the rumors of it.

This Is The End - 7.5/10
I love all the actors/comedians in this so I thought it was hilarious. Thought it got a little weird at the end, trying to put a plot into a movie where no real plot is needed, or is even appropriate in. Michael Cera's appearances were HILARIOUS, anyone who sees it will know why, and its mostly because it's Cera like you've never seen or imagined. Also, thought I should just throw this out there, despite the temptation to go trippin balls or on drugs of most sorts, I wouldn't recommend doing it. I was sober, but I was thinking that while watching.

So I finally watched Lynch's Eraserhead. And I am very disappointed. This is the man that made Mulholland Drive, which is a perfect movie. How could he have made something as ugly as this? You could call this a stupid question, I know, since he made Eraserhead 20+ years before he made Mulholland Drive. But still.
Eraserhead was not scary, at all. It was not disturbing or creepy, either. Extremely bizarre, yes. But other than that, what?
To sum up, 1.5

I watched a movie called Imagination, it was released in 2007, and is something in the realms of an experimental film trying to induce a psychedelic feeling. All this means is tat it had a lot of things going on, and didn't really make a whole lot of sense. It also was incredibly boring which is why I'll never pay it a second glance again.

Eraserhead was a very powerful movie for me as well.
I watched today this mediocre CGI action movie for the anime competition:

Very formulaic plot and good CGI but nothing memorable about it. Also follows many of the stereotypes associated with anime that give the medium it's reputation as juvenile entertainment.

You might like it. Has many explosions and cool robot designs.
It lack the things that I like the most in anime like creative and complex characterization, beautiful compositions, complex plots, good musical score, some substance and a general sense of elegance. It is very similar to a Hollywood sci-fi action movie but with mechas.
I don't think it is worthless but it is not obligatory. The only obligatory anime movies are the major GHIBLI movies and, maybe, Akira and GITS.
The Departed
4
A remake (or re-imagining if that's what you prefer to go with) of the critically lauded Hong Kong thriller Internal Affairs (which I haven't seen so I'll need to), The Departed tells the story of a police officer posing as a member of a gang, whilst a member of that same gang infiltrates the police force by working his way up.
Its a very well made film, a couple of moments truly shocking me in a way not many films have recently. The plot is engaging and the characterisation is generally strong, despite my misgivings on the strengths of Matt Damon's character.
Overall, more hit than miss but well worth seeing. If you've seen Internal Affairs however, I would guess that the "shock" factor leaves you.

Casino
3.5
Casino, another film about the mob by the "master" of the mob movie, stars Robert De Niro as Sam "Ace" Rothstein, an associate of the mob and a sports handicapper, who is sent to look after the Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas on behalf of the bosses. What transpires is a decade long saga of ups-and-downs, with the dream of Las Vegas gradually slipping away from him.
This is by no means a bad film, in fact at times its brilliant, especially scenes De Niro shares with Sharon Stone (who, incidentally after me thinking half way through, "I bet she got an Oscar nomination for this", got an Oscar nomination for this). Joe Pesci does his usual Joe Pesci routine which never fails to entertain.
Where Casino falls down is in its running time (three hours seems a bit too long here) and its similarity in themes to Goodfellas, which I feel answered many of the questions here posed by Casino a lot better. Perhaps for these reasons Casino will never be looked upon as a classic of Scorsese's directorial career, but it is entertaining nonetheless.
Mean Streets
4 - 4.5
Mean Streets is widely considered to be Scorsese's first great film of his career. Starring Harvey Keitel as Charlie, a soldier in the Mafia under his uncle, his caporegime. However, his natural advancement in the organisation is thwarted by his attachment to his friend, Johnny Boy (fantastically portrayed by Robert De Niro) a low-life gambler who owes a debt to local loan shark Michael. Things are not helped by Charlie's illicit affair with Johnny Boy's cousin Teresa, who has epilepsy and is therefore shunned from the mainstream of the mob.
Scorsese serves up a dream-like quality to this film, a film where the characters themselves are much more important than any semblance towards the plot. It makes for a thrilling almost two hours, strong characters, and a visual style that perfectly compliments the film.
If there was any criticism to be had, it would be that the supporting cast are not given enough time to cement their characters to the film, leaving it a triangle between Keitel, De Niro and Robinson. However, I'm fine with it. Watch this.

That's it, it's mostly a comedy but the sentiments and acting really helped the movie excel in my opinion.
As for the thread, I just now finished watching the Maniac remake with Elijah Wood, and I liked it. I don't think that it brings much to the table in-terms of originality, but the movie excelled because of Elijah's genuinely creepy performance.
Faster with Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
Quite a simple movie, immediately starts off with the rock getting out of jail and wanting revenge. The plot never gets more complicated than that, but he's constantly killing people and moving on to the next target. It has two great car chases and all of the fights are really quick. Mostly gun murders. This movie did not try to be anything more, and it excelled perfectly and what it's trying to be. A simple, face paced action movie.
Surprised they didn't cast jason statham in the role, seems to have been right up his alley. rock did a great job, although I wasn't totally sold on his pain and fear in the flashback.

Ghosts of Mars
2/5
Started out alright.. but got progressively worse and dumber as the film went on. It laid down some simple ground rules and it could not stick to them, contradicting it's own ghost logic. Then it had this main bad guy who had the dumbest yell ever, and he kept yelling the whole movie. It was nearly comical, might as well have cast someone deaf since birth to play the part. it would have sounded better.
Then they say a 2 mile radius explosion.. and show it from space like it's 200 miles instead. I literally laughed out loud at this point, and I don't think that was john carpenters intention.
Dude should have stopped making films in the 80s. It was horrible. Also it was unclear exactly what happened to jason statham. I had to rewind after the movie was finished for clarification.
Also there was a clear opportunity for a natasha ass shot and yet it was opted out! haha. finally.. it seemed like more of a crappy action movie than a horror film

Phone Booth - (may contain minor spoilers)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c4/Phone_Booth_movie.jpg/220px-Phone_Booth_movie.jpg
2.5
Directed by Joel "Batman & Robin" Schumacher, Phone Booth stars Colin Farrell as Stu, a small-time publicist who is held at gunpoint in a telephone box (Its a telephone box, the film would be so much better if it was called "telephone box") by a moralistic sniper.
Farrell puts in a fairly good performance here, his character feeling realistically terrified, although descending into melodrama at times. Supporting performances are muted, Forest Whitaker not on best form, Radha Mitchell and Katie Holmes both playing cliched characters whose only point of existence is their relationship to Stu. The movie doesn't treat them like real people, only objects or acquaintances of Stu.
My main gripe with the film is why Stu is targeted in the first place. Sure, he's a shallow, self-centered, ignorant twit, but is that really enough for this sniper to purposefully target him? And how on earth did he find out so much about him, his personal life, his friendships? It just defies belief sometimes.
It's entertaining enough, and short enough to be worth watching, clocking in at a punchy 81 minutes.
On a final note, I read somewhere that the film's writer once pitched a similar concept to Alfred Hitchcock. Can you imagine how much better this film could have been with him at the helm?
It has been a Netflix evening the past 2 nights and the films I watched were, well, just awfull.

Sean Connery, Mark Harmon, Meg Ryan.
This was almost a 4 star movie, but it ended with THE worst gun shootout i've ever seen. So awful. Also early on the mexican standoff wasn't convincing either.
But I liked all the suspense, mystery, car chases, fights, and the drama.. Sean connery is awesome, somehow he made me able to overlook the awful gun scenes. After the terrible shootout he gave a great speech that drew me back in

Yo, this film is pretty damn good you know? YO ADRIAN, THIS FILM IS PRETTY DAMN GOOD YOU KNOW?
Its pretty good you know.
Rocky (in case you live under a rock or in Wales or something), is the story of a debt collector for a loan shark, Rocky Balboa, who moonlights as a boxer (or the other way round depending on your way of viewing things). When the World Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed's opponent pulls out of their title fight in Philadelphia, he decides to fight a local fighter as a spectacle. The local fighter? Rocky Balboa.
Unlike most sports films, Rocky makes the audience sympathise with Stallone's character, despite his occupation, and has a realistic view of working-class life. Even in its schmaltzy moments, such as when Rocky goes down in the 14th, it packs punch. A sporting classic.

Premium Rush - 6.9/10.0
This isn't a bad movie by any means, and honestly, I found myself enjoying a lot of the parts about it. The movie stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, other-wise known as Heath Ledger's long-lost twin-brother, who is becoming one of my favorite actors with each of his movies. I found myself enjoying him ridiculously in (500) Days of Summer, Manic, Looper, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Lookout. This movie doesn't fall in the same category as those movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed the stylistic aspects of the movie that made me feel like I was watching a movie-adaptation of Mirror's Edge.

I watched some of Premium Rush the other day but had to go for something so didn't finish it. Thought it was pretty solid though like you say, will try to watch the second half sometime. Not only is JLG great but recently I am really loving Michael Shannon as an actor, he's exceptional in one of my favourite TV programs, Boardwalk Empire.

They're releasing another movie called, "Only God Forgives," starring Ryan Gosling, and directed by Nicholas Winding Refn soon. The movie hasn't gotten the positive reviews that Drive got, but I read that Gosling brings a very good performance.

I Just watched J.J Abrams Star Trek, Only because it was on T.V I have never been a Star Trek fan to be fair. But it wasn't to bad i was pleasantly surprised after putting off watching it for such a long time.
I would probably give it a 6.5/10 which I feel I am rating rather high due to the fact i find it hard to enjoy films made in the past 10 years, I like my old films so maybe be i should try watching some off the old Trek films. I noticed one in a shop called the Wrath of Khan the other day. Any one seen this ? do you have to be a Star Trek nerd to enjoy it?

Nice Surprise; Die Hard is one of my favorite movies and I loved part 2. I think I never gave part 4 a chance because I only liked part 3, it's rated PG-13, and I didn't hear great things. It was on cable so I tried it and am glad I did. It's better than most action movies and entertaining from start to finish. The part with the jet was a little much, but it didn't hurt my overall enjoyment of the film.

Not the best in the series just seems like they are making these stories up to involve Harry in random crimes. The excuse they made to make Harry go to San Paulo was because he made some crime boss have a heart attack without even touching him. I still enjoyed the revenge story from the leading female (Sondra Locke) but really seemed pointless.

Wow just got home from the movie and I'm still giddy. Went into it not expecting much story/dialogue wise and expecting a lot action wise. The story did enough to get you invested into the characters, generic stuff for the most part, but certainly good enough. But man does the action and visuals deliver top notch. The fights are absolutely captivating, it will bring out the little kid in you with out a doubt. Del Toro is just a master at visuals. You feel like this world is totally plausible, it's a made up world you feel like could totally exist, beautiful. Anyways just bravo that's what a popcorn flick is suppose to be like!!!
I also like he included the whole world in the cast about the whole world ending, go figure. Refreshing.
I hope the box office picks up next week as it hopefully grows legs through word of mouth. An original story like this that is executed so well deserves to be rewarded. It's a big freaking joke that Grown Ups 2 is beating this thing out. What is wrong with movie goers!!! You keep pouring in money to see unnecessary sequels they are going play it safe and feed us nothing but that, so annoying.

All concepts used in the movie are taken from other works of fiction. They are fairly standard tropes. Nothing truly original. Many plot elements are taken directly or slightly modified from the anime Evangelion. In fact, this movie is pretty much a typical mecha anime but using Hollywood's visual language to make it more accessible to western viewers.

This was a real surprise -- a big, loud, summer popcorn movie populated with flesh and blood characters. It's a diverting action spectacle possessing that one ingredient missing from so many like-minded blockbusters of the modern era: heart. PACIFIC RIM is slick entertainment that thankfully feels like a movie, not a video game, and director del Toro is to be commended for assembling the picture in a way that doesn't numb the senses with ADD-style editing and protracted battle scenes that wear out their welcome (attention, Zak Snyder!).
Question for del Toro fans: are shoes something of a signature for this director? The only other del Toro picture I have seen is MIMIC, and it and PACIFIC RIM both make a point of drawing attention to shoes numerous times... :D

You have to remember that this film was released in 1988. Films like this, and their real life consequences, helped pave the way for the documentary series', which then became among the most popular programmes on the channel, which is why ID and other true crime channels exists.

Pitch Perfect As someone who has grown tired of Glee (all due respect to Cory Monteith, RIP), I thought this film might just be a rehash but I was pleasantly surprised. Anna Kendrick leads the cast as a stand-offish college student who wants nothing more than to get into the music production business but has a deal with her dad to finish at least a year of college before finally making up her mind. By hook-or-crook she becomes involved with one of the four a cappella groups on campus. What follows is lots of fun, with good singing, a huge amount of humor (a lot of it provided by Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins as former singers now providing color-commentary! on each competition), and just a general feel-good, entertaining romp. 8/10

First off I really like Eddie Murphy's late 80's early 90's work. This is the first time watching this movie as I have been told by many people it is one of the funniest Eddie Murphy movies. I was a bit disappointed there were a few laughs but I don't think it was any where near Beverly Hills Cop or even Trading Places. Story wise it wasn't too bad but seem more like a romantic comedy than just a straight comedy.

Turbo- it's essentially Ratatouille and Cars in a blender. :p I'd say it's in about the middle of all the Dreamworks movies for me, in terms of enjoyment. Animation wasn't as inspired as much as their previous films from the past few years like Rise of the Guardian, but even their most plain efforts (in terms of animation) are still good to look at (Bee Movie, Over The Hedge.) The humor was there, but didn't have me laughing as much as Shrek 2, or Madagascar 3, for example. I think most of the humor comes from the main character's efforts to actually get the snail into the Indy 500; the plot is incredibly absurd, probably the studio's most to date (this is the team that had millions of bees carrying a gigantic plane, and a whale car wash.) But, I didn't regret watching it, it was enjoyable while it lasted. And it gave us a great shot of Indianapolis, which was cool, being an Indy man myself.
Oh, and I sware, there was a frame where Snoop Dogg's character's eyes were bloodshot red. That's brilliant. I want a spin off featuring that character, in vein of something like Harold And Kumar. I don't think that would pass through Dreamworks very well though.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - (may contain minor spoilers)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fd/Butch_sundance_poster.jpg/220px-Butch_sundance_poster.jpg
3.5
Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman), and the Sundance Kid (Robert Redford) are the leaders of the "Hole-In-The-Wall Gang", a notorious gang of train robbers. The two eventually migrate to Bolivia in order to continue their criminal activities after a train robbery goes wrong.
This is not a bad film by any means, but it didn't live up to its "classic" definition for me. Sometimes the script seems all over the place, one minute Butch and Sundance are hard-boiled criminals and at other moments they are experienced comedians. These sudden changes of tone happen throughout the film, leaving me wondering which Butch and Sundance the writers/director wanted us to identify with. However, when the script settles down, some of the scenes between the two contains some of the wittiest, cleverest dialogue I have ever seen in a film.
The score seems all over the place, especially the "bicycle scene" where "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" plays. It jars with the rest of the film.
Paul Newman and Robert Redford (Redford especially) put in good performances, and the scenes between the two are some of the best in the film.
All in all, the film is "cool" enough to work well, but its not a classic, just a good western.

Saw this as a kid at the drive in and its stayed with me throughout my life and i do agree with you about the bicycle scene and the song used during it. Never understood that, even though, it remains in my very top of favorite westerns of all time
great review by the way
They used the song in the bicycle scene to sell millions of records and get the Best Song Oscar. :)

Yeh liked this time I noticed a lot of subtle things like 2/3 times in Blue Velvet we get a shot of a log truck going past the screen just like Twin Peaks and the diner they use seems almost identical to that of Twin Peaks, gas station seems like Ed's etc.
I also watched Eraserhead for the first time which was great too, notice in that one room has the same carpet as the red room (black lodge) from Twin Peaks :D

That's a good point. For me, atmosphere is the most important thing with horror films and, to a certain point, with films generally. If n3wt doesn't, then I can see his rating is probably about where I might've put it myself.

I never expected it to be a great movie but I thought it would at least be decent. Well, it would be quite ok if it wasn't for the fact that it's made up of ripped off ideas from: Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Independence Day, Moon and even Wall-e. And those are just the ones that I've noticed.

Yeah, I found it when you mentioned it. Thanks for the link, though.
Yeah, some of those weren't what I noticed. For example, the Star Wars connection isn't really about the cloud city, in my opinion. I mean a single flat doesn't make a city. I was thinking about the Millenium Falcon's flight through the canyons of that giant meteor thing to lose the tie fighters. The flight through the canyons to lose the drones in Oblivion looked very, very similar.
And the connections with Wall-e are incomplete as well. It's clear that the design of the drones was based on Eve. They look similar, they sound similar and they behave similar. Also, those cargo ships laying on dried up land also remind me of a scene from Wall-e, when Eve is angry and starts shooting at such ships in the exact same setting.

Thank you. I thought it was good in enough ways to call it a successful film, but it's mad overrated and Shane Black doesn't come off as smart enough to break the fourth wall effectively (as evidenced by how lame most of the writing was in those instances in both Derpatron - I mean Iron Man - 3 and KKBB.

The World's End (Wright, 2013) 2.5+
I really wasn't a fan. Most of the comedy didn't quite *hit* for me, I don't think I was alone in that regard considering the audience in my theatre was pretty silent throughout the film also. The characters aren't fleshed out enough for me to care about them, this is most evident during some of the more dramatic periods of the film, which feel somewhat tacked on. It also drags, especially the conclusion which seemed to go on for an age before coming to any sort of completion.

why i like: eXistenZ has a game-within-a-game structure, like mise-en-abyme. It absorbed me in film's nested diegesis (virtual-real)
why i don't like: Game is playing with 12 people but everyone presented with NPC (non player characters) except Allegra and Ted. I think it's irrational side of film.

Second viewing.
I didn't know what to make of it the first time (which was over a year ago), but this time I really enjoyed it, and I tried to analyze the characters of Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. I don't think I've ever seen characters so empty, in any movie. Whilst watching the movie, I wasn't sure whether this was a good thing, or bad. Now I realize that it's exactly what makes this film great. They look truly lost, and although Murray's character has a wife and children at home, the relationship between the two characters looks so genuine and believable that they seem to care about nobody but each other. The film is really well executed, but there are some scenes I didn't truly love, which is why I'm not going to give it 5 stars. Great, but not a masterpiece.

I've also noticed that the invaders in this version are RIGHT - the United States is a corrupt class system with slave labour. This had me rooting against the Wolverines, whereas in the original I supported them.

Blew me away, really. It's nothing like any of the other films I've watched from the director, which covered on more on childhood innocence, imagination, etc, this film featured an aging character with a lot more on his shoulders. The scene where he was reminiscing on the island with the girl moved me like no other.

More of what I liked from Nat Faxon & Jim Rash's other work, The Descendants (one of my personal favorites,) which also featured a character having a gloomy time in a sunny place. It didn't really cover any new grounds, but the script was good, and it had a killer cast. Just a good, human, well acted coming of age story. You can't really hate on something this likable.
World War Z I can't believe I liked a zombie movie. It was pretty good with a fairly tight story. One thing I saw was where did the baseball bat in a WHO facility in Wales. None of the lab characters were american.

I watched The Wolverine in theaters, I don't necessarily know whether I'd call it a "great" superhero movie, but I think that it's a good one at the very least. A unique concept with Logan wanting to die because of his personal demons, and not being able to. At the same time though, there's a lot of shenanigans going on, and sometimes there's too many balls thrown up for you to count. A lot of characters thrown at you, and I think this will be seen from people as being a step-up from Origins, but not being a true sequel to X-Men 3. They made it out that they were "making it up" to the viewers with this standalone movie, but I never really thought that way. Personally, I liked Origins, I thought it was better than X-Men 1 & 3, and I'd say about the same for this movie, albeit with even more cheesy one-liners.
Project X 4/10 This film was pretty damn bad. Do not recommend watching. Braindead, stupid, illiterate film.

The Scarlett Pimpernel (1934) - starring the comical Leslie Howard and ravishing Merle Oberon, this more then watchable period piece set during the French Revolution is much better then the second film released three years later.

The whole 'fear is a choice' thing was pretty inspiring, but this movie was lost on me after the first words were spoken. The accents drove me nuts.

That's right, this low budget SyFy movie gets more popcorn than the big budget theater movie.....because it made me laugh.

The French Connection (1971) - 8/10 Very straightforward movie, brilliantly portraying the gritty atmosphere in which the cops have to overcome obstacles, take dangerous risks and pay a mental and physical toll to catch the bad guys.
City of God (2002) - 9/10 A very well constructed, energetic movie that follows a variety of character's with different ambitions, introducing the viewer to the lawless, violent and grim culture of Brazil's ghetto.
Boyz n the Hood (1991) - 7/10 A very decent movie, showing the social hardships, choices and obstacles young black men go through in their "hood" in the city of L.A.

Inception
One of my favourite movies (top 10), I don't really understand how people can dislike it (I know everyone is entitled to their opinion and all), it has story, action, romance (questionable) and make you have to use your brain. If I had to pick something about it I didn't enjoy was probably Cobb's memories of Mal all the time. I understand it is necessary to show these for the story to progress but sometimes I feel it drags a bit.

Funny Farm
Watched this one on the TV not a bad comedy but probably not as funny as his other work like Caddyshack and Lampoon movies. I think Chase always seems to have a very similar character in his movies, naïve dream turns into him going bonkers to then realising he had the best time of his life.

Nicest thing I've heard about After Earth. :p I personally liked it. And I need to catch Sharknado, because of obvious reasons.
Anyways,

Ponders a lot, and was extremely fast paced, only slowing down maybe once, or twice. I dug it though, an interesting look at relationships in general. Definitely made me interested in David Foster Wallace's work, I'll have to look for some of his stuff.

Oh man, this one hit me hard. Scratch out my previous choice for most disturbing film, this is it, it's cheerless. But, excellent nonetheless. Lars von Trier is a very talented man.

Tarnation - really really strange documentary about life with mental illness. Some pretty disturbing scenes but ultimately it was a bit slow. 5/10
Kids - This was rough, a lot more depressing than i had expected. Pretty emotional film following youths in New York and how they go about they're everyday life. Controversial indeed. 7/10
Misery - been wanting to see this for ages. Was expecting more scares but ultimately Bates is brilliant in this. 8/10
Rocky Horror Picture Show - yeah, i dont like musicals. not even gonna score this one.
The Island of Death - Good old Video Nasty from 1976. Some awful acting makes this hilarious to watch. 5/10
Half Nelson - Great performance by Gosling playing a drug addicted teacher who strikes a friendly relationship with a pupil. 7/10
Labyrinth - not watched this in years. This used to show me as a child, still does, with David Bowie in VERY tight fitting leggings but apart from that its still great to watch and brings back wonderful memories 8/10

L.A. Confidential (1997) - 7/10 - That's a temporary 7 out of 10, I must add. Because I'm sure I need to watch this movie a second time to complete my opinion of it. The film follows three cops, each with their own motive, vision and approach to being a cop in 1950's L.A. and the subsequent obstacles they must face while battling the treacherous and deceiving layers of L.A.'s police force.
It did not blow me away. Despite the captivating storyline and subplots, great acting, energetic pace and stylish feel of the movie, this movie is missing something for me to view it as one of the greats. I'll admit, this isn't my "type" of movie, but that doesn't usually confine my opinion. A very entertaining movie, definitely, but it did not live up to it's reputation completely, for me.

Inside Man (2006) - 6.2/10. Quite a good movie. The Indian song starting the movie was a happy surprise...

Another great movie, everything falls in place perfectly, but just not one of those movies that I will still think about a week from now (which is why I gave it a -).

An incredibly overrated, soulless movie. I honestly didn't care about anything that was happening really, but especially the unsympathetic main characters. The direction is so weak, and the acting is really poor. I did love the [spoiler ahead] final scene, though, and for that it gets half a star. I just loved seeing the two main characters die. I wish they died much earlier.
