4 out of 5 stars.
Inherit the Wind (1960)
rating_4_5
A young schoolteacher is arrested for introducing the Darwin Theory to his students, which is in violation of state law, in a small, highly religious Nebraska town. Fredric March plays the prosecuting attorney, a man who also happens to be a big time bible thumper and former presidential candidate who is adored by the townspeople. The great Spencer Tracy plays the from out of town defense attorney, who also happens to be a long time friend and rival of the prosecutor's. Tracy's character soon learns that he has an uphill battle in this town full of religious fanatics. Gene Kelly plays a big city reporter, and Harry Morgan plays the judge. To complicate matters, the accused teacher is engaged to the daughter of the local Reverend. There is a small amount of well timed comic relief in this movie, but mostly it is great drama. It is a very well executed story with a strong ending, and it is stacked with great performances. Despite it's appearance on the Ebert great movie list and an IMDb rating of 8.2, I've only seen Neiba tout this film here on the forum. I thought it was a fantastic movie, the 4th I've seen from director Stanley Kramer made in the 60's after Judgment at Nuremberg, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, all featuring Spencer Tracy. Hopefully this movie has been seen by enough members to make an appearance on the upcoming 60's list.

Very interesting premise. The story has some interesting parts, but all around the film could of been much better and the ending was kind of meh. Although kudos to Sandler for making something semi-serious and not Grown-Ups 2 bad.

Cricket, I also love Inherit the Wind. Fantastic movie. Spencer Tracy is super, and Fredric March has one of his best roles here. With the way he was made up, I could barely recognize the actor and therefore it was easy to concentrate on the character. I loved the final confrontation between Tracy and Kelly the best.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)
Just now seeing this and loving it. Fun, action-filled adventure with Jake Gyllenhaal as an adopted prince (in Persia natch), who stumbles across a fabled dagger that has the ability to turn back time for about the space of a minute or so, but it's enough to change major events. A certain bad guy wants to do something evil with it so he can control the events of his life and the lives of others...it's all about power, as all the big evil baddies strive for. Gyllenhaal is fun as his former street urchin grows up in the palace but retains his childhood street kid ability to bound from building-to-building, rooftop-to-rooftop, Parkour-style. It may seem like an anachronism but this is a fantasy adventure and you just gotta go with it. Gemma Arterton is beautiful and fine as the princess whose temple guards the dagger. Good support from Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, Toby Kebbell, and Richard Coyle (I'll always remember Coyle from the U.K.'s Coupling). Good stuff and a fine, almost 2-hour entertainment.

From the top 100 Western's list, John Ford directs this movie about a small town, shady, all for himself Marshal played by Jimmy Stewart, who is recruited by an army guy played by Richard Widmark, to help them buy back long time captives of the Camanches. This is a solid, enjoyable Western with a good cast that balances lighter moments well. I thought it fell short at being memorable or noteworthy in any way, and it doesn't reach it's potential given the talent involved.

On the bad side, the acting is subpar (I can't understand all the praise Sinatra got from this movie)
Really? This is the only film I've seen that I like Sinatra in, so I'm not going to tell you he's fantastic (though I don't think he's bad) but Laurence Harvey and Angela Lansbury are fantastic. Again, from what I've seen those performances are career highs.
Still, at least you liked it.

To me, he always seemed too artificial. Angela Lansbury's perfomance is quite good, I'll give you that, but Harvey didn't impress me at all!

After watching Okamoto's wonderful "The Human Bullet" I was pumped for anything with the man's name on it even if it was a samurai film (which I've not historically been favourable towards) and I was certainly disappointed. Very typical (at least from what I've seen) Jidaigeki with a lot of dialog explaining people, places, status and family trees. This was an absolute slog with such a basic story and average acting and cinematography. Fortunately the ending was pretty cool but that's all it really has in its favour.

The facts told by this movie have a very disturbing effect on me... It makes me so freaking mad all the repression a left wing party suffered from the politicians and police just because believing in equality and peace was automatically called Communism. It also enfuriates me the fact that people looked at Communism as a horrible thing (and so many still do nowadays, it's unbelievable).
Speaking about the fim, the fact it created in me these feeling is the ultimate proof that it works! The acting is great by everyone involved, the editing is wonderful and there are fantastic details of cinematography and directing.
It starts a bit slow but it picks up a great pace driving to a superb ending! Another masterpiece of the 60's and a highly likely addition to my list!

Romper Stomper (1992)
This movie is similar to ones like American History X and This Is England, except this one takes place in Australia. It also has a much more gritty and powerful depiction of racially-motivated violence than the two I mention. This was Russel Crowe's breakout role, and the film as a whole was very good. I highly recommend it if you enjoyed AHX or TiE. In fact, I think it's essential since they all kinda seem to work like a trilogy.

I went to the theater to see Jurassic Park with friends, because they told me te movie was really good. It was just a deception, the plot was awful, just like all the other american movies we have seen. It seems that they follow a recipe to creat the movie's story.
But, of course, the movie was awesome in terms of visual effects. But, anyway, a deception.

Carry On... Up the Khyber (1968)
2.5
From the top 100 British Film's list is this madcap farce that I understand to be the most successful of the Carry On comedy series, which includes 30 or so films. The plot has to do with British forces in India, but the plot is just an excuse for a constant barrage of jokes, many of which work, and some which went over my head. It's a good watch for some quick laughs, although my thought was that it'd be better suited for television.

My Little Loves 4+
Those years when the youthful innocence begins to fade, never to return. The tactics used to entertain in days of old no longer apply, as friends slowly drift away. The world though odd seems to make more sense, even if only in small doses. The young kid goes from being a child, finally transitioning into a young man.
This is a magnificent coming-of-age film, stripping away rose-tinted nostalgia and melodrama. Eustache paints a heartfelt portrayal of youth that feels sincere, genuine, and empathetic.

Mallrats (1995)
A fun and nostalgic film by Kevin Smith about two friends hanging out at a mall after both their girlfriends dumped them. While it is very funny, throughout the film a handful of jokes kinda felt dated. It's just that in this day and age, they were jokes and gags that have been repeated a thousand times over the years, though I'm aware that they were very fresh at the time this movie came out, so I kind of gave it a break; yet it's also weird since the first Clerks, which came out a year before didn't really feel dated when I recently watched it.
Also just found out that a sequel is being made to this movie, both a Mallrats 2 and Clerks 3 coming out is pretty cool!

John Cusack plays an author who checks out supposedly haunted places, and then writes horror stories about them. He's a nonbeliever in ghosts and supernatural happenings and such, when he goes to a New York City hotel to stay in a room where a lot of bad things have happened. The hotel manager, played by Sam Jackson, warns him that it's going to hit the fan, and it does. The movie starts out pretty well being effectively creepy, but I thought it wore out it's welcome about half way through. It's based on a Stephen King short story, and I feel that this would've made a better short film or Tales From the Crypt episode. It was ok.*

When I heard Michael Rooker played a serial killer in a movie I had to see it(Being a big fan of his), and Netflix provided it like *snaps fingers* that . I gotta say, this movie is pretty disturbing, but I liked it. The tone was great in it. This is a bit more gory and adult themed than a lot of serial killer movies I've seen(Aside from Silence of the Lambs lol) and there's a few weird ass moments that may make you uncomfortable if you know what's going on but Henry's descent throughout was interesting to watch. I always like getting to the core of serial killers in movies and seeing what made them become what they are. (One of the reasons Dexter is in my top 5 favorite tv shows I loved that show), and if you are looking for Serial Killer movies this is one to watch.

The films biggest problem is that it has way too many story lines and as a result none of them are properly developed. It definitely could have been an emotionally effective film if most of the run time wasn't dedicated to the generic children's adventure plot that was completely by-the-numbers. On the plus side, the score is really nice but that's one of the few positives I could really take away from Inside Out. Here's hoping "The Good Dinosaur" is a stronger film for Pixar but after hearing about all the production issues, I'm not expecting much.

Hunger (1966) 4.5 This film describes like no other movie a feeling of desperation, hunger and life's meaninglessness. Simply a great piece of art, with beautiful black and white photography... I would recommend this film!

The Passion of Anna (1969)

I thought this was a pretty powerful film, and unlike many others from director Bergman, it's power starts early. I loved the look and the sound of this movie, and the performances are outstanding. One strange thing-the film is intercut with quick interviews of cast members. I don't like this technique in theory, but it worked just fine. This movie, Shame, and The Virgin Spring ended up being my favorite Bergman films of the 60's.

How To Train Your Dragon - 8/10
Really loved this. This was the highest film I'd yet to see on the Animated list, if I'd seen it back then it would have made mine. Toothless is such a great character. Loved the training and bonding scenes between him and Hiccup, it was a nice touch having Hiccup use all he had learned from Toothless to subdue the other dragons. Also the flying and battle scene with the queen dragon were phenomenal, nice ending too. My only problems were that I felt the human characters were a bit underdeveloped, wasn't really a fan of the adult viking voice acting either. Other than that great movie. DreamWorks best IMO.
Looking forward to the sequel.

I watched "Zero Theorem" and "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind".
These two could probably not be more different. While ZT didn't deliver a great story, it was visually and emotionally great.
CoaDM features one of my favorite actors and an intriguing story. I was disappointed with how boring and stiff it was.
What's interesting is to see how a site like RT rates these two. Basically, if you don't like Gilliam's work, don't bother with ZT. CoaDM was reviewed like twice the movie I saw.
RT will say CoaDM is the better movie. At least ZT was entertaining despite its flaws.

Secret Window (2004)
4
A troubled horror writer in the middle of a divorce gets a visit from a creepy hick, who claims that he stole one of his stories. Things go downhill from there. I thought this had an outstanding cast for a horror movie with Johnny Depp, John Turturro, Maria Bello, Timothy Hutton, and Charles Dutton, and I enjoyed all of the performances. This movie kept me guessing until it's fantastic conclusion.

Frozen - 6/10
Decided to watch this as I've been on a bit of an Animation kick lately. Liked it more than I expected too, the problems I had were the ones I was expecting. It was a bit too saccharine for me personally and quite a few of the songs irritated me. Despite this I did enjoy some of it. The film looked amazing and I liked most of the characters, particularly Olaf who cracked me up. I also liked what happened with Hans, before Kristoff was introduced I thought it was going to be another generic prince character as the love interest.
Good movie that I would have liked alot more when I was younger.

Julia Misbehaves (1948)
Nice, slick little comedy concerning a woman (Greer Garson) who comes back into the life of the daughter (Elizabeth Taylor) she hasn't seen since the daughter's infancy. Also, she and her husband (Walter Pidgeon) in the couple of decades since, haven't bothered to get a divorce despite not seeing each other. Also complicating things is Cesar Romero, who is in love with Julia and follows her around with his mother in tow. One of those stacked-deck comedies where everything gets somehow solved by the end. For me it was a delight to see the normally stoic Garson play a comedic part. She may have done more, I just haven't seen all her movies. A good time if you're feeling stressed and want a movie that goes down easy.

The first half was just ok to me, but it picked up so much in the 2nd half. The ending was perfectly done and they made it seem realistic and not going for some fluffy happy ending. Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe both have amazing performances in this that I couldn't help but be in shock that I haven't seen Pearce in nearly any movie in this millennium. This makes me want to see Memento more as well.

The Graduate (USA, 1967, Mike Nichols) - rating_3_5
Seen it for the first time and i liked it. I wasn't overwhelmed, though because while the first 40 minutes were pretty great, it got downhill when Elaine entered the movie. I thought here character wasn't convincing, at all. And while i like Simon & Garfunkel, i thought the soundtrack was extremely uninspired: The Sound of Silence - The Sound of Silence - Scarborough Fair - Scarborough Fair - Scarborough Fair - Scarborough Fair - Mrs Robinson - Mrs Robinson - Mrs Robinson - Mrs Robinson - The Sound of Silence. But i'm a fan of Dustin Hoffman.

Been watching some oldies from Robin Williams and this was always one of those ones I loved when I was a kid. The dated Effects and the painful acting from the two kids has waned my love for this film slightly but it was still enjoyable to watch nonetheless.
Continued my animation spree with these two.
The Lego Movie - 6.5/10
Quite hard to rate this one. I thought at certain times this was hilarious, it had a good record of catching me off guard with witty one liners. My favourite characters were Batman (Will Arnett was born to imitate Bales Batman voice :D), and 80s Space Guy. Emmett was also a pretty good protagonist, the scene he built the bunkcouch while the submarine was being attacked cracked me up. The Will Ferrell scenes though , in theory I think it was a decent idea but it brought nothing to it for me at least. Good, fun movie with some great action scenes and hilarious moments.
Surf's Up - 5/10
I thought this was decent. Nothing special but there was nothing wrong with it either. Just an easy fun one time watch for me. One thing though, Chicken Joe was fudging brilliant :D. I loved his journey into the woods to find Cody as well as him wnning the competition even though it was a bit obvious.

Foxcatcher (2014, Bennett Miller)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ae/Foxcatcher_First_Teaser_Poster.jpg/220px-Foxcatcher_First_Teaser_Poster.jpg
I decided to give this a rewatch last week. It's a masterful work, and one of - if not the best - film of last year. Ruffalo, Tatum and Carell are towering in their performances, and Miller exhibits some truly remarkable technical dexterity behind the camera. It engenders a real visual fluidity, thanks in large part to its rhythmic and cogent editing, and admirable photographic composition and framing. The pacing may seem ponderous and stagnant to some, but I appreciated the slow and steady sensibilities of the work.
The film makes some intriguing observations on American exceptionalism whilst also summoning as an intimate and perturbing character study of a lonely, deranged man whose own affluence isolated him from the real world. This, particularly, is a rarity. That is, finding a work that is thematically rich enough to be both personal and small on one level but also quite all-encompassing and universal on another. Foxcatcher can be discerned just as much as an allegory for American patriotism and jingoism as it it can an exploration into alienation, fatherhood and family. I hate to use this word, but it's truly an example of multi-layered, complex, and well developed storytelling.
This is perhaps a work I appreciate more than most because it's exactly the type I found I value, particularly in terms of how Miller brought this dejecting and bleak story to life. Each frame is impeccably constructed, and the type of visual aesthetic Foxcatcher engendered is only attainable with the distinctive, organic beauty of photochemical film. Indeed, Miller was initially going to shoot digitally (primarily because of studio pressure), but after many hours of test shooting, he simply realised that digital provided too much of a polished, vivid and clear image. Certainly, a type of image that just would not be apposite to the nature of the story being told. Ultimately, it's a masterpiece, both technically and narratively. It also has a remarkable OST.
Daniel M

I really enjoyed Foxcatcher too, and thought it was a great film. I agree with you that the pacing and overall atmosphere helped it delever its thematic messages and tell a story both personal and universal. From the minute John Du Pont enters the film there's a dark feeling of inevitably the lurks inevery frame, something unsettling that seems like it could explode at any moment. I've heard people say they don't understand why he was 'crazy' or felt it captured the man well, but I thought it did, and certainly got the feeling of alienation and the want to become an independent, strong-minded father figure to break away from the dominance of his mother and prove himself to himself and others. I just thought it was the type of film that was always going to suffer because of its ending, it needs one, but when a movie is such a slow, thoughtful study, introducing a more typical narrative ending to wrap things up often becomes problematic and seems slightly out of place.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Daniel.

I see what you mean here, and I think Miller actually understood this. This is why I believe Miller was very careful with the climatic act - it's rather understated and cautious in its execution, and there isn't much exposition regarding Mark's life after the incident (i.e., his MMA career). I have no major problem with it, though.

Another Noir viewing, another movie to love. This is one I will want to see a couple more times. Very plot heavy and I tend to enjoy those a bit more when I know where the chess pieces are going to move. This film was very engaging and I love the chemistry between the two leads. I think you'd like Carla's Song and The Full Monty. I think they're about the only films he's been in that you'd like. However, if you're willing to look at TV, then Hamish Macbeth may well be right up your street.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamish_Macbeth_(TV_series)
He gives an absolutely brilliant performance in the episodes of Cracker he was in, but I think it's borderline as to how you'd respond to it.
Thanks. I've never heard of Carla's Song, and I may have a hard time finding the BBC series, but I'll try to find both of those.
I have The Full Monty on DVD, but I've never watched it. I heard it was very funny, but it didn't really sound like my kind of movie, so I just never got around to it. But I didn't know that Robert Carlyle was in it, so that will definitely push it up on my watchlist.

I rewatched the Star Wars movies not too long ago after seeing the trailer for the new one. They are not my favorite Sci-Fi work (This may be because I was first introduced to this franchise through the Phantom Menace when I was younger and it came out right when I started going to the cinema and started to develop a taste) but I appreciate them for what they are.
SW: The Phantom Menace 1.5 (Gets a 1.5 because of Liam Neeson & Darth Maul)
SW: Attack of the Clones 1.0 (Gets a 1 because of Christopher Lee.....that is all. Ewan was slowly getting better through this one but you can't really blame him as almost everybody in the prequels was a cardboard cutout pretty much, Lee and McGregor were just the least terrible)
SW: Revenge of the Sith 2.5 (gets a 2.5 because Ewan McGregor was the shining light of these prequels and was pretty good in the third movie and the saber battle at the end between him and Anakin was actually pretty good)
SW: A New Hope 3.5
SW: Empire Strikes Back 4.5
SW: Return of the Jedi 4.0

Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994)
I've missed a couple of of the Freddy Kreuger films despite being a fan of the series. I haven't seen Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)---I think I might have dodged that one because Roseanne Barr was in it---can't stand her!; and I haven't seen Freddy vs. Jason (2003) yet. But I rectified missing one last night and that is the one mentioned at the top of the page here.
I really enjoyed this one. Although I think I prefer the joking Freddy, I consider the original a classic horror film and I like that they went back to the dark theme of the first one. If you don't know, actress Heather Langenkamp of the first and third movie plays herself in this one, dealing with strange happenings concerning her young son, mysterious phone calls, and some people from the first movie acting strange. Of course Freddy is involved but I don't want to say how as to not spoil any surprise. Langenkamp is very good in this, in fact I think it's the best she's been in all the Freddy movies. There is gore but it doesn't go overboard for those who dislike it. There is a good mystery going on here and lots of tension. One of my favorite entries in the series.

Despicable Me (2010)
At last I get to see this one, that's up to three movies now if you count the upcoming Minions movie. I loved this flick. The animation is super and the voice work is excellent, especially Steve Carell as Gru, the villain who wants to be a better bad guy than he is. Three children come into his life and gum up his plans for greater villainy. It's easy to see where the story is headed but it's the execution of it that makes it shine. The minions of Gru are of course scene stealers but don't hog all of the action. Still, they came out of this as stars and started showing up everywhere online. Anyway just a fun, fun film.

The last movie I saw before submitting my 60s list.
It didn't make the cut but it was close. A great soundtrack, impressive cinematography and editing and perfect acting from the 2 main actors, especially Dustin Hoffman who never ceases to surprise me.
It manages to portrait reality without hiding the ugly parts or glorifying the good ones. There are some resemblances to Requiem for a Dream, but without being neurotic.
Overall it's an impressive aural and visual experience that I truly enjoyed.

After some time focusing on the 60s, it's time to return to my watchlist and The 400 Blows was on top of it for quite some time, especially due to its obvious historic importance.
It's a visually stunning film who, thanks to a powerful acting by Léaud and a brilliant direction by Truffaut, never loses its simplicity while conveying a very powerful message.
I didn't connect with Antoine as much as I was expecting but I can definitely see why this is held in such a high regard.

The ice truck scene is disturbing! Does anyone know if there was a similar scene before in American cinema? I mean Hays Code was long gone, but it was still impressive the producer agreed to keep this scene.
Also, the ending is the best thing ever. Seriously, the scene with the policemen in the fog, and then the trio ready for a melee fight! And the one liner. AWESOME!
The movie is pretty straightforward thriller/action, but it's so genuine and made with heart put into it, it becomes something more.

Last night on Netflix. Perfectly paired with a bowl of Cheez-It crackers. Hitman's car is stolen and puppy killed, so he goes on an all-out killing spree. Great action, good martial arts, shooting, stabbing, and fun cameos. I like the kind of alternate killer-world, particularly the Continental Hotel, where killers check in for a rest. (Chuckle.)
Granted, this vengeance movie shamelessly panders to the justified rage of a righteous, loving man. He has hitman skillz though, and his puppy was killed, so he's not a psychopath. I think being cut in front of in a Starbucks line would've been a more compelling motivation and set a different tone, but that's just me.

If I would've known beforehand how little I would laugh during this movie, I would've thought it a complete failure. I could not have predicted the amount of excitement this movie has, even by today's standards. I can't get over how beautifully filmed it is, and the soundtrack is also excellent. It's not quite an upper-echelon favorite for me now, but I wonder if that has to do with it being something I didn't expect. I think I'll like it even more when I watch it again.

Overview: I found it to be genuinely entertaining at parts, and I feel like some of the people involved were actually trying with the production. But it tried waaaay too hard to cash in on people's nostalgia. It's not as bad a 3, but I probably wont see it again for a long time. I thought for the most part that this was a fairly average slasher, that could've benefited from a better cast. What sets the movie apart in a positive way, is that it has a truly outstanding collection of kills. The girl getting pitch-forked in the shower is one of my new all time favorites.

I may have screwed myself a little with my expectations for this one. As great as I thought it was, I was looking for an all time favorite. I thought it slightly dragged at times, and that it didn't quite have the consistent power of Kurosawa's very best. Toshiro Mifune gives a very intense performance, it's a good story, and the cinematography is brilliant.

Song One (2014) a very simple, low key, indie film shot in semi documentary style. The trailer link below gives a good idea of the film. The best description about TV and what's wrong with society nowadays. It's as actual now as it was in 1976, and that's one of the biggest praises one can give to a art work.

It took me so long to watch this because I just wasn't that interested. I must've had the wrong idea because two of my favorite television shows are Three's Company and Bosom Buddies, shows with similar themes. It's a simple movie, but it's just the type of situational comedy I like. Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are perfect in their roles, and I'm not sure how good an actress Marilyn Monroe is, but she is mesmerizing to watch and was great in this. The whole cast seemed to be having fun while performing, and that translates to the viewer. This movie was the perfect respite from the dark movies I normally watch, and I just had a great time watching it.

Inside Out, 5/5. Oh my god this film is so good. Like with Wreck-It-Ralph and Frozen, it's not a perfect film, but every short coming it has is so overshadowed by what's great about it, that they don't even matter or hurt the film. The casting is great, the characters are fun, despite the fact that it's about 75% inside the head, and the rest outside, it manages to keep a likable, and reasonable balance between everything going on, which is not an easy feat considering that it basically tackles 3 points of perspective at once. The transitions between them though, are excellent. When it's funny, it's really funny, and even though it uses the same joke multiple times, it's always perfectly timed for great laughs. I will say that I didn't like the scene we once got a trailer for about the father being out of tune with Riley's emotions as well as his wife's, mostly because the father never acted like that again, and it was all just to add up to a few simple jokes, but the payoff later in the film made that scene a bit more worth it. The originality, the cast, the setting, the way Joy and Sadness ended up working so, so well at the film's conclusion, everything was great. I can't say I cried like a lot of people have said they did, but I get why people might. This film is so good. Anyone who has ever enjoyed an animated film at any point needs to see this, because animated films like this, need to be the standard in the industry. It's seriously the best animated film I've seen this decade.

Being part of the MoFo's family gives me the need to watch movies. I just finish watching the first Jurassic Park a super classic that I have never seen and after reading the plots of the other 3 movies I can wait to see them all.
It was pretty fascinating the originality of the movie, a park of dinosaurs, to clone them by the blood in the mosquitos, to murder Wayne Knight, and specially the last one made this movie deserve a 5/5 Mr. Popcorns

The cinematography at first traps you in, then the acting and carefully constructed editing and movement of characters, looming over in a quasi-noir trance never lets you out. Great film. Didn't expect to like it very much.
... but damn the cinematography. I haven't liked a film's cinematography this much since Woman in the Dunes. I'm pretty sure my rating for this film will go up on repeat viewing.

Another movie by Lumet, a director who's gradually becoming a favourite of mine with each new watch!
I knew Lumet always made his cast perform beyond what everyone expects from them but on this one he did the impossible: he made Vin Diesel actually act!!!
It's a movie about loyalty with an incredible script based on a true story on which the viewer gradually becomes looking to a real life criminal as a hero! Very nice directing from one of America's best directors ever!

John Wick (2014)
3+
I liked the set up, and then the rest is just balls to the wall constant action. Not really anything for a plot, just kill or be killed. That's just fine for an action movie, but of course a good plot would make it better. The action is not spectacular, but it's solid and consistent. I would prefer a little more gritty and realistic action movie, but the editing and stunts are not so overly obnoxious as to ruin it. I've always liked Keanu Reeves, and he does a good job here. It's not that he's a great actor obviously, but I think he's likable and charismatic, and he's been in quite a few enjoyable movies.

THE best action movie.... EVER! Excellent script, Arnie in his best role, revolutionary effects, lots of practical ones too, superb villain, action galore, and a very touching ending. This is where the movies should have stopped. And the sad part about it is, the effects in this movie are way better then in Genisys. Easily one of my all time favorite films.

Every couple of years I watch a Christian film to remind me why I don't watch Christian films. They are basically Disney channel movies for the Christian crowd. It always amazes me how well they are liked by believers. The scripts are horrible, there is absolutely no nuance in the characters. All the plot points are contrived and unrealistic. The cinematography is as bland as...well a Disney channel show. Half a star because it has two songs in it that I like.

I've seen a couple Christian organization made films, that were pretty decent. I've seen others that were pretty poorly made. The last good one I watched was:
Alleged (2010) about the famous Scopes 'Monkey Trial' where a teacher is arrested in Tennessee for trying to teach evolution in 1925. The production values were like a made for TV movie, good but not great. The take on the Scopes evolution trial was interesting as the media is portrayed as stirring the pot and causing the problems. All movies slant history one way or another and I thought this was at least an interesting film with and interesting view point....Has anybody seen this?

Wow... I thought God's Not Dead was okay for what it was. Incredibly flawed and hamfisted like you said, but not half a popcorn bad. I gave Termonator Genisys a higher rating...
Then again if I want a movie that has a message of faith in it I generally recommend Ben-Hur or The Ten Commandments.

I actually seen a movie last night that had a strong message about faith, humanity and the artistic spirit, The Agony and the Ecstasy. I didn't expect it to be so good...It wasn't your typical sword and costume historical epic....Instead it deeply focused on Michelangelo struggle to complete the Sistine Chapel and his conflicts with Pope Julius II. Yeah, these new Christian movies are really quite a different thing than what your talking about. These movies are not just about people of faith, they are message movies. My biggest problem with them is you can't recognize anybody in them, it all feels so artificial. That goes for the portrayal of believers and unbelievers in the films.

Tends to be very black and white. Kinda makes you wish Cecile B DeMille was still alive. And often times the message trumps the movie making process. You can have your message but the craft needs to be good too.
Then again I still think God's Not Dead was fine. Then again I saw The Omega Code 2: Meggido in theaters... I mean Gunny and Michael Biehn and Michael York can do better.

Punishment Park (1971)
4.5
http://www.cinefamily.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/punishmentpark1_website.jpg
During the Vietnam War, groups of anti-government/draft dodger/protester types are brought to a sort of makeshift court after being arrested. They are allowed to have their say, and then are quickly sentenced. They are then given the option of completing their federal prison sentence, or going to Punishment Park. The Park means three days in the sweltering desert, where they are set free, and have 50 miles to walk to reach an American flag. They have a two hour head start on the police and National Gaurdsmen who will try to capture them, but if they reach the flag, their prison sentence will be taken away. Violence occurs. This is not an action movie; this is shot documentary style. The situations and acting all seem very real. It is very powerful and intense, and was controversial in it's time. It is a movie that is still very relevant today, and a movie that I would recommend to anyone.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
Fun, but not really funny movie about a daydreamer (Ben Stiller) who works at the Time/Life building processing pictures for an elusive photographer, and who provides some of the great photos for the cover of Life. His fantasies tend to get in the way of his day-to-day conversations and relationships with people. He is attracted to a co-worker (Kristen Wiig) but this movie is not exactly a romantic comedy. It's more of a man finding himself and what he wants out of life. He actually has adventures in foreign countries and the cinematography is lush and the countries are beautiful. For me, this was the best part of the film. Good acting from Stiller and Wiig and Adam Scott as a douche bag of a boss doing a corporate takeover. Much better film than I expected.

John Wick (2014)
An almost non-stop action film with Keanu Reeves as the title character, out to get revenge on the young punk who kills his dog and steals his car. Yep, that's what he did. It may seem like a job for the police, except Wick is a former hitman who takes it personally when this crime is committed. Good support from the always great Willem Dafoe, Ian McShane, Michael Nyqvist, Lance Reddick, and the beautiful Adrianne Palicki. Tough, hardhitting, and never dull stuff. A must for action film lovers.

My 8th Fincher's film (I just need to watch Alien 3 and Zodiac to complete his filmography, which I am expecing to do this week).
I read about this being the worst Fincher movie and I totally disagree! In my opinion this is among the top 4 films I've seen from him, especially because it doesn't become pretentious halfway through like Fight Club does.
It doesn't get into deep knowledge of each character and the plot is pretty simple. Its only goal is to thrill, and boy, mission accomplished.
We have Fincher's trademark dark atmosphere really well created, great acting especially by Foster, and a lot of insanely thrilling scenes (the slow motion one made me scream with excitement and adrenaline). This is like Fincher's homage to Hitchcock and the master would definitely be proud.
I'll probably right a more detailed review on this one.

Dumplings (2004)
3.5-
A rich, aging actress goes to a woman whose dumplings are rumored to be like the fountain of youth. It turns to be true, and these dumplings are made from baby fetuses. This movie teaches in great detail the best ways to chop, serve, and consume these baby fetus dumplings. I also learned that first born and inbred baby dumplings are best, and the second trimester is the perfect time to feast. The woman's husband impregnates his mistress, adding to the fun. Some people may find this movie disgusting, but it is also darkly humorous. It is very well made, with excellent acting. Starring Bai Ling and directed by Fruit Chan, that's right, Fruit Chan.
