Can't I just End of Watch again?
(good review, makes it sound less Alien Nation-y, and MIGHT give it a try. Just really, really loathed Alien Nation. :D)
Then you probably won't like this since it's like a considerably worse version of Alien Nation (and I say this as someone who actually liked Alien Nation).

Fun film. There's not much i can say about this without running through parts i found funny. Franco is difficult to get used to at first and he of course could never truly embody Tommy but he does a really good job in the end and he gets some of his mannerisms and speech patterns down, he's still too attractive though no offence to Tommy. I wasn't that into Dave Franco as Greg; to me he had to be Tommy's connection to the real world and he didn't feel that natural. Anyway really funny, and nuts and feelgood actually.

It really feels like I have been through a phenomenal and self-evolving journey, "The Decalogue" deserves all the hype it gets and even some more, Kieślowski was already one of my favourite directors, but after having him grip me on my seat and stimulate my mind, in each episode, and in each hour, he has gained a priceless and firm throne in my world. I will definitely revisit this series many times from here on out, since I can already tell I will love it even more after each viewing.
Here is my rating for each episode:

Of course the first Blade Runner is one of the finest movies ever made. This sequel is impressive because it is actually a good sequel that does justice to the original and is not a typical cash grab movie. It is like Mad Max 4 in that respect.

56 Up - 9/10
I saw this in the late 90s, so the one I saw was 42 up.
This was a great idea, to take 7-yr olds, and to do a documentary at 14, 21, etc... I wish they wouldn't have used so much backup footage, and only use about 5 minutes of new material each time. Sometimes, they didn't even use the good footage.. In 1964, they asked kids what they thought about The Beatles - that would have been nice to revist, since no one knew how influential they would be in culture. The director should realize if we're still watching, we probably know about the past, and only a minimum amount of time should have been used.
Still, very great, and will watch the American (I'm from the US, but found the UK first), and the Russian, Swedish, South African, etc...
I love documentaries like "Place de la Republique" by Louis Malle, and "Dark Days" which is on YouTube in full.

I'm sure this is the movie that gave me a thorough loathing for franchises. WTH were they thinking. And Dennis Quaid please. Dude, we know when you're acting. No need to run so hard saying Hey...look at me I'm acting running. And lolol, sharks dont just sit down to a new york cut with a knife and fork, and gently nibble away at it while passing on the broccoli.
Such a bad movie.

No it was on tv and we were just going to check it for a laugh before going to bed but I got totally focussed on how crappy it was. And how much Alan's music annoyed the hell out of me, and that freaking shark who kept doing things sharks just dont do. I think in 3D the dolphins at the end would have had me laughing hysterically.

I always like Sam Rockwell, but frankly I am not sure if his performance in 3 Billboards will guarantee his nomination for Best Supporting. What are the competitions this year?

Just got back from the cinema and seen The Greatest Showman. Ok, so it may not be historically correct and is a very Disney-fied version of the true story. However, the music is catchy, the message is inspirational and reminds its audience to accept anyone and everyone for what they are!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
Just came from the cinema. My closest friends all hated the movie so my expectations weren't high!
Even so, there are some things I liked about it and the things I didn't I think I understand what went wrong.
Apart from the flaws this movie brought from the previous one: a weak villain and a story line supported on an actress who simply can't act (Carrie Fisher), the movie has the heart in the right place. It has a clear will to step away from the past which has a lot of value. Most decisions plotwise were the opposite of what we saw happening again and again in the past, which brought some unexpected freshness to the story.
Where I think the movie fails is in its execution. It has too many separate storylines and at least one of them (Rose and Finn's) is completely unnecessary. The narrative is a mess because it's not well guided, it becomes confusing, the pacing dies and the movie simple doesn't pick up, it becomes boring. As soon as they unify them all, in the last 30 minutes or so, it becomes interesting but because the characters were not given enough time to grow we simply can't relate to them so we don't care about what happens on the screen.
Luke's death for instance, wouldn't be as anti climatic as it was if the we had had more from him on the island. We don't understand his motivations and what really made him hate the Jedi.
Overall, the movie is 30/40 minutes too long, and the parts that should be explored are not but maybe, just maybe, left a open way for a solid final entry of this trilogy.

This. My feelings exactly. After a while I just stopped caring about the characters or want to follow so many different ongoing subplots. In the classic 3 movies, the core group would be split up at various intervals, but brought back together much sooner & with less threads to try to keep track of.

Watched this for the upcoming Directed by Women Countdown Link (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=52385)
I was impressed by the serenity of the film, especially Mercedes Ruehl's performance as a mentally slow adult. This is based on the hugely successful stage play by Neil Simon and Tony Award winners Mercedes Ruehl and Irene Worth reprise their roles here in the movie.
The film is pretty well grounded and despite what the movie posters might look like this is a serious study of a dysfunctional family. Yes it does have some light comedy, BUT it's a well done drama that starts out promising and ends in an unexpected way, that I found to be quite rewarding.
This is a new favorite movie of mine!

I'm glad to see that you liked this movie so much because it's high up on my watchlist, (mainly because it's a Richard Dreyfuss movie that I haven't seen yet). Richard Dreyfuss is great as the uncle who might be a gangster (no this is not a shot em up movie). It's a different type of role for Dreyfuss, and it fits him to a tee. The on location sets look great. Not shot in Yonkers as I image it doesn't look like it did in 1942, so they shot in some small towns in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Pretty impressive and looks like a small town out of the 40s.

This is one fantastic piece of filmmaking and a stunning visual feast (Roger Deakins is a master) but the original is still better. To be able to create all that visual splendor in 2017 is one thing; but it boggles the mind how it was possible in 1982. Also, the climactic scene ("tears in the rain") was so much more powerful in Ridley Scott's movie - in the sequel, the ending was just a little bit disappointing to me personally.

Well I loved it. Such a great cast and they all put in brilliant performances, particularly McDormand and Rockwell. It was a shame about the introduction of the new character in place of another and I also didn't like what happened to Rockwell's character towards the end but it didn't put me off enough to still give it a high rating. I found it pulled on all the right strings too. There were parts that I found really depressing, parts uplifting and the best bits were when I was laughing at the bits you shouldn't be laughing at. All in all, a really good film that will probably win a ton of awards.

What about the film makes you say Oscar bait?
The feel of the movie for me (plus maybe the release date?) is that it very much sees itself as a contender for big prizes. There's nothing wrong with that, it may even add to movies if concepts are simplified to appeal to a more mainstream audience etc, rather than be un-necessarily complex. I've written on a few threads that I think the dialogue and character arcs are such that it was put together in the third act to have a resolution of sorts. That, to me at least, was a bit of a destraction. The film didn't really need a resolution and Sam Rockwell's character in the final scene was completely at odds to the rest of the film (baddie racist cop turns good overnight). Again, not a bona fide Oscar bait trait, but just perhaps a pandering to certain sections of audiences / the industry. Don't get me wrong it's not a movie that only has awards in mind, and I really enjoyed it. I just think there are several nuances that have been included with awards season in mind.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
So last night I watched this AGAIN, oh man, what was I thinking to give it a 7/10 in the past?
It has typical Hollywood (Marvel) movie issues:
- lazy plot writing
- stupid action that is so over the top and doesn't make sense
- dumb villain who falls easily at the end
- unbalanced characters, just too many
- jokes are everywhere that makes this movie tension-free

I'll expand later because i'm going out soon, and there's a lot. I think it was a genuinely bad film with an awful script and childish social commentary, not offensive because it was all too laughable to draw any kind of strong reaction. It's kind of entertaining anyway i guess so i get why people like it, but i only understand it in a finding Kenny Powers entertaining sort of way, anything else and i'm baffled. McDormand was great anyway despite her character being horribly written.
Do you think I would like this? I've been on the fence over watching this one or not.
Who knows? At one point i thought i had your taste pegged but you've surprised me a bunch. I'm leaning towards you won't like it but i'd say it's worth a shot anyway, for McDormand's performance at least.

This horror movie out of Finland was a great recommendation from MovieGal. 4 teens go camping where 4 teens were stabbed to death many years prior, and they want to reconstruct the crime. This is only 80 minutes long without the credits. The first two thirds are solid, but feel standard and predictable. Everything changes in the last third with twists that I didn't see coming. I thought it was terrific for what it was.

I personally love the feeling of "completing" a director's filmography. It makes you truly grasp the full scope of their artistry. And if directors are really special, you can always rewatch their films anyway, especially Kubrick's (and especially Barry Lyndon)!
But yeah, I also agree that it's a great feeling to have a few films left to discover from a director you really love.

Btw - they are all on YouTube.
Aye. It's one of the funniest films I've seen for a while. As you say, I feel like I reacted to all the bits the director wanted me to.
3BB I watched more as drama with some charming moments. Will have to rewatch in a more light hearted mood (I was too focussed on the single mum fighting the establishment in the town, how they treated members of the community etc), and for me it's definitely a rewatchable movie taken from different PoVs. I agree that Dixon's change was too abrupt, but my husband and I both thought a few moments were too rushed and we'd look at each other and ask how A got to B so fast (Dixon in the hospital one minute then inciting a beating the next springs to mind).

1941 (Spielberg, 1979)
I hated this movie with a red hot passion. I don't recall any other movie that annoyed me more than this 2 1/2 hour long comedy bomb.
Just look at that poster, now image looking at that much stupid crap for 2 1/2 hours! Steven Spielberg made a lot of great movies, but 1941 has got to be the biggest pile of film wasted he ever made. Nothing is funny, but it sure did grate on my nerves.
The movie is loaded with stars from the late 70s and that's about the only good thing the film has. Mostly it's people looking into the camera and screaming nonsense all while the director spends untold millions making very large scale expensive shots, just for the sake of doing this piece of Hollywood.
If I had never seen John Belushi on Saturday Night Live or in The Blues Brothers, I would have thought him to be the biggest bore on the planet. Obviously he was talented as was rest of the cast, the fault lays with Spielberg's idea of humor that's geared towards 8 year olds....ugh.

Saddam Hussein - The Truth
I saw this before.. I knew plenty about Saddam and Iraq before, since my parents were born there and lived there a little past adulthood. It's very good, especially when it reminds you of a thing or two, or if it gets you thinking in retrospect. I love how the CIA directorate said "Conspiracy theorists think we'll be in Iraq forever" --- they're still there.. Then again, she's CIA, and they've spent a ton of time using the word "conspiracy theory" to end conversation. That, or an attachment to a person (Trump, Obama, etc) or a group (political, religious), as opposed to allowing each argument to stand on its own.
I'm glad they mentioned The Godfather - it was his favorite movie and he used the movie as a guide.
His favorite show was Little House on the Prairie.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
This was mostly very bad but it was kind of entertaining anyway thanks to Frances McDormand. Casting her was the one good decision made here. Baffled by the response to this.
rating_3-
I agree with your comments. Evidently "Three Billboards" has become the official "in" movie at this time. And because of the promise from this superb cast, anticipation built as the opening credits concluded. However a mild gnawing suspicion soon formed in the back of my mind when most of the dialogue was littered with "F" words. Hardly a sentence could be delivered without generous portions of the word in every conceivable grammatical usage: noun, adjective, adverb, other. It's as if at the script meetings, a line could not be approved unless it contained a minimum of three "F" usages. Is it that we are tasked with believing that this is common small town speech; or is it that the use of the word must be included in any modern progressive banter? Its prevalence gradually came to be like fingernails scraping on a blackboard. It was doubly annoying after just recently watching I, Tonya, which suffered under the same handicap.
The film has two strong attractions: 1. a heavenly alluring title, and, 2. a cast of heavyweight actors. Unfortunately the movie was basically a clever plot device searching for a believable story to go along with it. Reportedly writer/director Martin McDonagh saw similar billboards regarding a crime somewhere in the southeastern U.S., and decided to write a story using the incidence. But having introduced the billboards, the screenplay soon abandoned the title, the billboards, and their usefulness.
[SPOILERS] At about 30 minutes into the film, the Sheriff (Woody Harrelson) visits Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) to explain to her why the investigation into her daughter's murder had stalled: there was little evidence, no eye witnesses, and the DNA and fingerprints did not match anyone in the criminal databases. So unless someone were to finger the perpetrator, there was little else that could be done. This is totally plausible, and in reality brought the entire movie's premise to an end. So with Mildred's and the film's justification for the plot pulled out from under them, all that followed was groundless, muddled, or silly.
Hitchcock stated to Francois Truffaut that in film, "Whatever is said instead of being shown is lost upon the viewer." In this case we are not shown the crime, and there is minimal description of it. So on good faith alone we are supposed to understand why the McDormand character has turned into a miserable, monomaniacal, wretch, whose sole purpose in life has become to embarrass, then terrorize an entire town-- but without justification.
In order to continue the film's shaky plot, they simply switched the focus of Mildred's rage to a dumb, hackneyed racist (what else?) deputy sheriff. Despite the character's triteness, he at least provided a suitable living breathing foil on which to base most of the rest of the movie.
Credit must be given to the fine performances by McDormand, Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, and the inestimable John Hawkes, along with a first rate supporting cast.
But it was the screen play and dialogue that came up short. Several characters complete 2 or 3 major personality changes. Rockwell's deputy sheriff alone transformed from a moronic bigoted dufus to a sharp caring sleuth in the space of about 45 minute's screen time.
In the process many of the usual trite Hollywood cliches were featured: a mother enraged over her daughter's senseless killing (you go, girl!); the hick racist deputy; the crotch kick; a dwarf explaining that they're in fact real people; the new black replacement sheriff (who looked like he stepped off the appellate bench) to can the deputy and institute racial equality; the ogre ex-husband takes up with a younger woman; and the like. One looses count. And perhaps the writers did not know that pancreatic cancer does not cause coughing up blood.
In the end, the newly enlightened pairing of Mildred and the reformed deputy decide to go ahead and hunt to kill a man who they presume must have raped someone at some time. After all the daughter's killer had not yet been found, so someone deserves to die, right? But we're left with the question: will they really do it? Would this ending fit better on some other film?
Evidently this is all acceptable under the "black comedy" distinction. When the writers do not commit to credibility, anything goes. However in this case there was very little comedy, and the black tended more towards gray.
Doc's rating: 6 of 10, based on the acting.
And perhaps the writers did not know that pancreatic cancer does not cause coughing up blood.[/B]
I'm no oncologist that's for sure but I think that's a bit of a nitpick, Doc. Pancreatic cancer can cause Zollinger-Ellison syndrome which can lead to excessive bleeding in the gut. That has to come out some way, so I found that plausible. The cancer meds can also have various side FX. Even excessive coughing , vomiting etc itself can lead to ruptured blood vessels which lead to coughing up blood.
The use of the f word - yeah this can get very distracting when overused but for me it seemed to fit. The crotch kicking was a bit OTT but so was throwing molotov cocktails at the police station and not being questioned over it. I just put that down to Coen brothers entertainment. As for the character being 'miserable, monomaniacal, wretch' - well I can understand a parent, especially a mother, reacting that way to the death of her child (especially considering her last words to her) and not seeing that the cops had nothing to go on. Stress causes people to act in some very strange ways and denial is a powerful tool.
The 'in' movie? Yeah for sure but I, and I assume a lot of other viewers, could not give a flying fig if something is trendy to watch or like. People like what they like and vice versa.
Despite my nitpicks of your review I do understand your complaints and enjoyed the read.

"However in this case there was very little comedy, and the black tended more towards gray."
I agree, but I'm seeing a lot of people saying they found it extremely funny so I find it interesting finding out how differently viewers have reacted to it.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
As the title says, this is the next movie in (what I hope) will continue to be a series. After settling business held over from the last movie, John is visited by former underworld associate who calls in a marker (this one being a blood pledge) on John to do a favor for him. The favor is to kill a family member so the mafioso will be able to take her place at an international council of crime. John is forced to do it. He goes to Rome and the adventure begins.
Oh yes, he's got a new dog in this, an older dog whom he boards so it won't end up like the first dog. John goes to Rome and to a hotel that cater to men and women of his profession and he is equipped with everything he needs for his mission. In spite of not wanting to do it, once he takes the job, he will stop at nothing to see it through, and to get past it.
Although he uses his own guns and knives in the movie, there is a lot of fighting where John uses his hands, takes guns or knives away from the bad guys and offs them with their own weapons. There are several sequences where he seemingly goes through thirty or forty baddies at a time, of course getting wounded but still going, not stopping for anything. These fights are made to seem realistic and are brutal beyond belief. When he would go through several score of assassins, I felt so tense that I felt as though I had been through the fights.
Keanu Reeves is awesome once again as Wick, Riccardo Scamarcio is perfectly slimy as the mafioso who calls in John's marker; Ian McShane (one of my favorite actors) is his usual excellent self as the proprietor of a club/hotel where anyone seeking sanctuary is given it and it's a haven for any assassin not to be killed; Ruby Rose is sleek and sexy as an immaculately dressed bodyguard for Scamarcio; Laurence Fishburne is reunited with his "Matrix" co-star Reeves as an assassin who aides Wick; Common is the bodyguard for the Rome-based family member of Scamarcio and he is almost as badass as Wick, never stopping for a second (there is a dynamite but short sequence where he and Reeves are on separate levels of a railway concourse and are shooting guns with sound suppressors on them (silencers) at each other, the huge throngs around them totally unaware).
Director Chad Stahelski (co-director of the first Wick film) pulls out all the stops as he puts Wick through the grinder on this one, against seemingly half the underworld of Rome and New York City. A winner all the way.

It's a great word, Marco. I dont hear or read it often, but somehow the entertainment does not extend to the movie. Wont be going on the watchlist any time soon.
It's a dandy word Dani8 but being Scottish I ken a few more choice ones :). The film is just inexcusably unfunny. Thankfully in my past so I have good recommendations from the spot on contributors on here which is great:D

The Night Stalker. A killer is stalking Las Vegas, leaving his victims completely drained of blood and investigative reporter Carl Kolchak (the great Darren McGavin) is soon convinced that the killer is not just some madman who thinks he's a vampire but an actual real life creature of the night. This early 70s US TV movie that led to a sequel movie and eventually a TV series, which in turn later inspired The X Files, stands up very well and is very entertaining and spooky fun, with McGavin a hoot as the irascible reporter who just can't help getting up the noses of anyone in authority.

Free Fire (2016)
This is the first Ben Wheatley I've seen and I'm curious to watch some more now. I found this more interesting than enjoyable. It's a very well put-together, visually interesting film which takes the concept of a shoot-out in a single location and stretches out to 80 minutes. It's a little overstretched for my taste, there's a certain amount of humour and tension but there's a limit to how funny people shooting each other really is, although there were a couple of nice ironies that amused me.

There were two, prior to the series, this one and The Night Strangler (the plot of which seems to have been a large influence on the Tooms character in the X Files! ;))
Howl. An evening commuter train breaks down in the middle of an isolated woodland area and passengers and skeleton crew soon find themselves under attack by a rampaging werewolf. Bloody British Rail, eh? This is the second time I've seen this 2015 British base under siege horror flick, and I enjoyed it just as much, if not even more. Great fun. A howl, even. ;)

The Room
So after seeing the brilliant The Disaster Artist, I felt like I had to watch the original movie.
Not going to mention any flaws of this movie since there are way too many :p, but I do appreciate Tommy's genuine attempt. Without that we will not have that much of entertainment.
My wife didn't like it as much as I did, and she left at 2/3 mark. She asked me why I would, out of nowhere, pick something like this, and she never made me see a bad movie like this. But she did find the GIF above funny and asked me to rewind right away. XD
The Room is not the worst I have seen, it is still better than Resident Evil: Afterlife. Also, John Wick 2 is exactly twice better than The Room.

Phantom Thread
And Molly's Game is currently sitting at the top of the movies I have seen in 2017. Yes, it is that good.
Aaron Sorkin might not be the best director since it is his directing debut, but damn his script cannot go wrong. The movie is very well paced while being entertaining. You will love it even more if you happen to be a fan of poker, which I am.
The cast is absolutely fun to watch as well, Jessica Chastain & Idris Elba pulled off some serious acting, kudos to both of them.
A must see movie.

The Greatest Showman
Although being aware of the good reviews, I wasn't super excited seeing this movie, but this movie surprised me so much, especially the first half.
Hugh Jackman returned to his true self, and the dance between him and Michelle Williams was way more hotter and better than the dance you saw in La La Land.
Few things I didn't enjoy:
- The plot was a little weak
- Zac Efron, he tried hard I know, but he is no Hugh Jackman
- The whole scene where Zac got saved
Overall, a very very good movie, I am dying to own the soundtrack and listen to it again.

I couldn't find any English poster of this movie, but this movie is not a war movie despite a short chapter about war.
Recently this movie has created some noise in Chinese community, so I thought I will give it a shot. Being one of the biggest hater towards Chinese movies, I did find this movie mediocre and failed to reach its supposedly higher potential.
Feng Xiao Gang did his best creating the right atmosphere and delivered the right message to audience, but he lost the movie on the technical aspects.
Cons:
- Acting is inconsistent, one of the leading girl is a joke
- Character development is weak, characters wear the same mask throughout the entire movie
- The war chapter is so over the top and unnecessary
- The ending is disappointing, it should end at an earlier spot
- The narrator is incredibly emotionless and dull. Not everyone is Morgan Freeman.

I feel shell shocked after watching this stupidity!

It knew that it was a bad movie (note that only Serial Rabbit, Serial Rabbit 3 and Serial Rabbit 5 exist - they never made numbers 2 or 4) and it had a lot of fun with it. If you like Andy Kaufman's or John Johnson's stuff, then you will great enjoy this movie. It was a lot better than the second one (Serial Rabbit 3). For a bad movie, I give it a four out of five stars - very enjoyable.

It's almost believable how blatantly this movie steals the premise from 1998's Very Bad Things. The big difference is that the gender roles are reversed. Whatever, it's dumbass humor which fits my taste well, but unfortunately it's everything you'd expect. Scarlett Johansson is the lead, and I don't know why she's in this movie. She was not funny or hot at all. The short haircut does not suit her. Thankfully, I do really like Zoe Kravitz, and Kate McKinnon and Jillian Bell were pretty funny. It's not a good movie but I did laugh and was kept entertained.

Power rangers (2017)
The best thing about this was leaving it open for Tommy (green ranger) to be in the sequel, the problem is it will be a more serious less cheesy version of Tommy like the rest of the characters where we'll see a heartbreaking back story with Tommy's parents leaving him in a supermarket trolley or something. Massive nostalgia to me I was like 4 when the mighty morphing power rangers came out and was glued to it, like with man of steel I was disappointed with the amount of back story sometimes not knowing stuff is good, who cares if Russel Crowe gave birth to Clarke Kent I'm just not interested. The CGI wasn't terrible though and I was expecting a lot worse. 5/10
Happiness (1998)
Errmm I watched this like 10 years ago and I must have not got it at the time as it was pretty shocking, to be fair I would have only been 17, this is the epitome of difficult viewing. Great to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman what a man, his story with the fat neighbour was more comedic than anything for me especially when he finally succumbs and puts it on her only to find out she has Pedro in her freezer. The storyline line with the paedophile dad is extremely difficult to watch especially when he actually appears to be a decent bloke. Thought provoking to say the least, a complete monster doing simply the worst and most depraved act describable and him appearing normal is pretty hard to grasp. Great movie, I just love Hoffman's performance a stand alone movie with just his storyline line would be great. 8/10

Crazy Famous (Paul Jarrett):
For all his life, Bob Marcus only looked for one thing: fame. However, his latest attempt, in which he jumped the fence at Camp David, lands him in a mental institution. Despite the lead doctor telling him that he should give up his dream, Bob finds himself determined. He meets Larry, an impulsive man who has a tendency to explode at random times. Larry introduces him to “Dr. Phil”, a patient who thinks he is the TV doctor.
Finally, there’s the very strange Smith, who spends his time scribbling on the walls and floors. He tells Bob that he knows where Al-Qaeda head Osama bin Laden is hiding. While everyone is convinced that bin Laden is dead, Smith knows otherwise and offers to prove it. Seeking this as an opportunity, Bob decides to go along with Smith’s plan and takes Larry and “Dr. Phil” with him. As these four successfully make their escape, they are about to go on a trip that they will never forget.
Crazy Famous is a pretty funny meshing of The Dream Team, conspiracy theory, and a film about going to extremes to achieve your dreams. The cast, led by Gregory Lay, Richard Short, Victor Cruz, and David Neal Levin, drive the film with their roles of mental patients who attempt to prove the truth behind a conspiracy theory. The film’s 77-minute running time makes it smooth and easy to watch.
Final Rating: B
I also interviewed lead actor Gregory Lay (https://worldfilmgeek.com/2018/01/08/becoming-crazy-famous-an-interview-with-actor-gregory-lay/), who loved the script and considers The Dream Team one of his all-time favorite movies.

Man, this was so great. It is four hours long and is completely packed with everything you can imagine; and i really mean packed since it was supposed to be six hours long and the director had to edit out a third of it to get it released. You'd think this would be an incomprehensible mess, but nah it's actually really tight and there was only a few things i didn't enjoy much. Actually the only part i wasn't big on was the part he starts working for the porn company, went way too heavy on the prince of perverts stuff but that was only ten minutes long or something. I really didn't feel the length at all, i watched it over two nights but the first around 2 hour 40 minutes flew in and i only didn't watch the last 80 minutes that night because i really needed some sleep. There's no way i could attempt to post about this as there's just so much too it, but yeah it was really great and i hope some of Sono's other films work as well for me.

The film was a great portraying of innocence among the adults life. Lots of great ideas but I didn't like how this ideas was showed on screen. Mr. Sean Baker likes to film like a documentary sometimes but it doesn't look real in my opinion, so that breaks my concetration. Cinematrographer Alexis Zabe was great in this film too. Acting was poor, honestly (but Willem Dafoe was good). In the end the film wasted some good ideas for the sake of being 'a real look in to the characters daily life'. Unfortunally, the film, in its general, was empty.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
(Joachim Rønning& Espen Sandberg)

2.5
In a desperate effort to have another dead franchise revived, Disney has put forth this film. A soft reboot of sorts, bringing back two actors from the original trilogy in an effort to trick fans into seeing it. Their total screen time is maybe 5 minutes, but that's besides the point. The main theme with this pirates is that kids have daddy issues, boo-hoo.
Henry Turner is determined to find Captain Jack Sparrow, the legendary pirate, so that he can break the curse his father has to live. The only way to break the curse is to find Poseidon's Trident. Along for the journey is a young woman that the townspeople have deemed a witch, simply because she loves astronomy, maybe those two will fall in love??? Hmm????? One night in a drunken state, Sparrow trades away his compass for some rum, which breaks another curse (so many curses who can keep track?) and unleashes Captain Salazar and his dead crew. Now the trio must find the Trident before Salazar does, for whoever controls the Trident, controls the sea.
What was once a "swashbuckling, high-seas adventure series" is now a derivative piece that lacks story and heart and shows the greedy money hungry inner self of a company. Dead Men Tell No Tales is a small step above whatever the last one was called, but it's still a shallow film at the end of the day. This is coming from someone who loves Greek Mythology and specifically Poseidon. Dead Men is nothing more than a film where characters need to go from point A to point B with a lot of nonsense that happens in between that no one cares about. Awkward comedy, uninspired action sequences and uninteresting characters.
The one thing these films usually have going for them is the character designs of the bad guys. Here we have a spin on the same thing from the first film, dead pirates. Javier Bardem plays the villain here. His design is appealing to the eye. His hair constantly appears to float, as if always in water. The design of his crew is basically "missing pieces", as some people have no head, are missing limbs or in one case...is only limbs. There are some cool moments done here with them, when they run on water for instance, but these moments are few and far between and do not make up for the complete and utter lack of enthusiasm this film has.
Turner wants to free his dad. Carina Smyth is the lady they are with, she is thrown in lazily as a love interest and then even more lazily has a connection to another character. There is a moment near the end of the film that is so unearned that it's a little disrespectful to the character. Moments of surprise are forced and if these are the two new characters they want us to follow, then this series is dead in the water. They are boring, uninteresting and have zero charisma. They were hired because they are good looking and nothing else.
Depp is Depp, I don't know how else to explain it. It was widely known he was going through hard times during this film and it shows in his performance. Jack Sparrow is no longer a character, he is a caricature. A sequence involving dead sharks is horribly realized and makes the film look like a cartoon throwing Sparrow around like a rag doll.
Abandon this ship people, it's sinking and bringing everyone down with it.

The Squid and The Whale (2005)
I hadn't really heard that much about this at all but decided to give it a go after seeing Daniels amazing performance in the series Godless. I found this really enjoyable and very well made. Baumbach does a great job in getting the audience to know the characters, in particular Daniels character, who was very very funny. Make no mistake, I found parts of this movie hilarious but at the same time it is a serious and complex subject that is difficult for any family to go through. Still, I thoroughly recommend this to anyone, especially with its superb soundtrack and sharp, witty dialogue.

I love the original and enjoyed this one much more than I thought I would. It is very well cast and beautiful to look at. It seemed to move quickly and was very upfront with it's theme. Nicole Kidman was hot and bothered not even 15 minutes in, something she plays very well. It was so to the point that I found much of the movie humorous.*

Before I Fall

Before I Fall and other films like it, make me really appreciate the brilliance of Groundhog Day. Despite a good lead performance from Zoey Deutch, the film tries way too hard to force its message of redemption down your throat that it practically chokes you. I can see the film working well for the target demo of teen girls, but for everyone else it's a bit of a misfire.
Sam is a classic "mean girl". Her and her friends routinely pick on the outcast girl, Juliet while acting as the queen bees. Sam is dating the popular good-looking guy in the school and routinely ignores the advances of an old-friend who clearly has feelings for her. Sam and her friends go to a party, have too much to drink and are finally confronted by Juliet. They leave in a hurry after the confrontation and get into a car accident, killing everyone.
But you guessed it...Sam wakes up alive. Reliving the same day over and over. The film doesn't use this to its advantage though. Of course you have the typical scenes where they know what people are going to say beforehand, but the film really does gloss over the reliving parts in favour of showcasing it only three times. Once when she first relives it, then when she decides she can say and do whatever she wants, finally when she thinks she figures it out. I know she is stuck in this loop, but I didn't 'feel' it, if that makes any sense.
All the girls in this were believable in their roles. Deutch manages to make you sympathize with her despite how rude she can be to people, even her own family. One of the real problems with the film lies within the ANTI-BULLY message. Yes, we get it, being a bully is wrong and I applaud a film that wants to teach young girls a good message. The bad part is how this film forces this message down your throat every chance it gets. Makes it feel like an after school special at points.
Before I Fall has plenty of missteps and if it weren't for a good cast, would be even worse. Stick with Groundhog Day, it perfected this genre.

The beginning of this movie showed so much promise. Just like with "Up", it shows a heartwarming and significant story all during a music montage during the opening credits. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. While the movie is beautiful, it is devoid of the simple story with heart premise that made the director's previous science fiction movie, The Fifth Element, a blockbuster.

This was just before Hanks became a huge serious star, and as much as I like him now, I liked him more then. The kid was real good in this but Rosie O'Donnell was a disaster. I loved all of the movie references and even got a little misty eyed a few times. My wife didn't know what I was watching because I had my headphones on. There's definitely potential, which confirms that Martin McDonagh has a really unique vision. However the plot becomes quite messy and hard to follow and the pacing is not the best. The acting is good from the whole cast, I especially liked Christopher Walken!

Across 110th Street (1972) is a movie that I've been meaning to watch for a while now, but have always put off. Since I ordered a VHS copy of Black Caesar (1973) early last year, this is another movie I wanted in my budding VHS collection. I finally abandoned its acquisition on VHS, and rented it on Amazon last night. The gravity of Across 110th Street sets it apart from its blaxploitation contemporaries (In my opinion, Black Caesar gets a little silly towards the end, and I'm not even going to touch on its ill advised sequel, Hell Up in Harlem (1973)).
The plot is fairly straight forward: After three black men, dressed as cops, rob a Mafia numbers bank in Harlem, resulting in 7 men getting massacred, the Mafia wants to find these guys, and do so, one by one. Two cops: a corrupt, street wise Anthony Quinn and an educated, by the books Yaphet Kotto must find these men before the mob does. Both Quinn and Kotto are great in their respective roles, but don't get enough screen time together to develop a strong screen relationship. The MVP of this movie for me is Richard Ward as Doc "Mother****in" Johnson, the African American organized crime boss of Harlem, who is frustratingly subservient to his Mafia overlords.
Across 110th Street is an important movie, with an important message, which has been copied endless times. What I liked about this movie though, is that it portrays an important message without feeling too preachy. I feel like this film's biggest promoter is Tarantino's Jackie Brown (1997), which features Bobby Womack 's Across 110th Street in the opening credits.
Just one thing I really have a problem with, and those that have seen it may be able to just tell me I'm overthinking it:
If Johnson's goal was to kill Mattelli (Quinn), why did his hitman wait until after the cops killed Jim Harris (Paul Benjamin)? They could have pinned the murder on Harris, who was killed, case closed. Now, the cops have to look for a whole new killer. UNLESS, this was Doc Johnson showing Lt. Pope (Kotto) the extension of his influence, and trying to Pope to play ball with him. I don't know, I'm probably overthinking it.
Also, I have an irrational dislike of Burt Young (Probably because of Rocky). I was glad his character was killed off early in the film.

The guy is freaky enough because of his appearance. I feel bad for the actor because he has some sort of a disease that makes him around 6'7" and just over 100 pounds. He has played monsters in other movies and apparently people have mistaken his body for cgi. In this movie he's just a creepy guy, made even more creepy by the fact that he's usually just in his little underwear. Anyway, he has some sort of vendetta against the guy whose apartment he's in. He's so skinny that he lives in the walls, and can hide under the sofa or on top of the kitchen cabinets. He does things like blowing snot in the mouthwash and sticking the toothbrush in places where it just don't belong. When the guy's girl moves in he wrecks the relationship with his tricks. He takes a big dump so they blame each other, goes on a gay porn site on the girl's computer, and other assorted things to torment. When she moves out, he creeps in the guys bedroom while he's sleeping, cuts his own hand with a knife, and bleeds all over the guys ass. When the guy wakes up, he thinks he's bleeding out of his ass. Eventually, things come to a head and we find out what the whole point was. This is a movie that'll make you squirm but it's also darkly funny.

A predictable courtroom thriller that doesn't manage to create any real tension or sympathy for those involved. High Crimes wishes it could capitalize on the semi success of their previous pairing in Kiss the Girls instead of trying to build something of its own. Thus we're given a ho-hum script with predictable twists and turns.
Claire's husband Tom is arrested and put on military trial. He's accused of desertion and the murder of 9 innocent civilians. She is a lawyer and is determined to clear his name since he says he was set up. But this is military law and she needs an expert to help. Enter Morgan Freeman. Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'.
Judd plays a strong and determined woman up against these macho men from the military. Not only is her husbands life at risk, but her own is as well. People from the shadows obviously want her to stop what she is doing. Is there a bigger cover-up here? She makes the work seem somewhat bearable and helps us through the chore of getting through this film. Freeman is a self proclaimed "wild card", but he doesn't seem to be off hinged at all. He has a drinking problem that seems to be corrected pretty quickly, a lazy attempt at adding some sort of depth to a thin character. He's the 'best' of course, but we don't get to see any of that whatsoever.
The court room scenes lack tension, the investigation sequences lack danger. The film tries to present her as always being in danger because the military wants this whole thing to go away. Despite those scenes, I just didn't really feel the uneasy atmosphere that should have been present. For some reason Amanda Peet is here as her sister. Not really adding much depth to the character dynamics or the story.
The film lacks any kind of surprise. For a film that seems to pride itself in such a thing, it's a little embarrassing.

Looks like one in the run of movies she did that could be a Law and Order episode.

Don't Breathe
This movie by Fede Alvarez is about three young burglars that decides to rob the wrong house. Kind of a psychopathic version of Home Alone. The owner of the house is played by Stephen Lang and is sort of a twisted semi-rapy blind mixture of Kevin McCallister and the cow from Me, Myself and Irene (you know ... The one that just won't die)
If you're into horror movies, where the all the characters die one by one and it's all about hiding from a psycho, then this movie is definately worth a watch. In this genre this movie is way above average in my opinion.
The bad guy in this movie is blind, and you can't argue with the fact that it should be possible to defeat him quite easily, but they manage to get over that hurdle quite well. And there is a really cool sequence where the light is shut off and everything is seen with a b/w night vision filter.
All in all I give it a 7.5/10.

Bellissima - 9/10
Thanks TokeZa - your score prioritized this movie for me, and I finally saw a movie - I was spending the last 5 days trying to decide.
Very good movie, I love Anna Magnani - she's definitely a force to be reckoned with. She always lives by her own rules, and has the full package - strong-willed, sexy, logical, funny, angry..

There's no sex or violence and it's in English. You may like it ok but I didn't think of you when watching it.

ah yeah when I see a film and it makes me think "Hell yes I have to tell Cricket and Swan about this!!".. I usually do!
Blade Runner 2049.
Got the blu ray, watched it last night. Different from part 1. Story is more elaborate and satisfying. Cast not as charming and world, music and fx not as groundbreaking as the first but whatever. Nothing to be done. I will say Ryan Gosling gives a heartbreaking performance as K/Joe. Damn good movie in its own right. Glad I picked it up after seeing it once Imax style.

LOL. A while back when I mentioned in the Shoutbox that I was going to watch this & that the New York Times said it was fine to watch this as a stand-alone movie, people were horrified. You may have been one of them. :)

Amusing movie. Some very amusing cameos. Best scene was Ralph Fiennes & an actor I had never heard of - Alden Ehrenreich (which is not the best name for a movie star). :)

I wasn't horrified, I just think it'e better to watch the first film. You can do whatever you want, obviously.
