The Gentlemen (2019)
Fans of Guy Ritchie's --especially of his earlier Brit crime comedies, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch-- will be delighted that he's returned 20 years later to the formula that really put him on the map. Others without that experience may have a less enthusiastic response to this crispy criminal conspiracy comedy.
Its big name cast includes Matthew McGonaughey, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Eddie Marsan, and Jeremy Strong. The cinematography by Alan Stewart, and music by Christopher Benstead were both very competent. Ritchie wrote, directed, and was one of the 11 producers.
The story is a bit too complex to outline here, but suffice to say that it's a entangled drug territorial dispute tale, with certain parties wanting to buy the other out. Violence ensues when they can't come to terms, and instead do some double dealing.
Grant's character starts off the dealing to one of the major drug lords, an American who has developed into a major crime figure (McGonaughey) that has become well established in his success. Grant more or less serves as the narrator for the twisty and surprise laden plot-- sort of a criminal Our Town type character who at once describes, but is also involved in, the action.
The whole project seemed to me to be a little tired and shallow; not hackneyed, but familiar. Grant's character put me in mind of the Michael Caine part in Sleuth (1972), although with not nearly the heft.
The detraction from the credibility of the story was in the casting of two key players: McGonaughey as the chief crime boss, and Jeremy Strong as a fabulously wealthy drug boss who was one wanting to take over McGonaughey's business. McGonaughey's Texas drawl seemed too out of place, and therefore his character had believability problems; whereas Strong's mousey demeanor was simply too weak for the part. Also in limited supply were the type of offbeat quirky jokes and speech patterns so evident in Ritchie's earlier works.
The film certainly had some enjoyable portions, yet without the good acting of the name players, the picture would likely have expired as quickly as did some of the bad guys. My guess is that Ritchie was beseeched by his money people to revive his earlier approach, after a couple of semi-stinkers (King Arthur and Aladdin), in order to get his stock back on track. Whether this mediocre film was enough to do it, time will tell. Next up from him is Cash Truck, set in Los Angeles. Fingers crossed...
Doc's rating: 5/10

El Hoyo a.k.a. The Platform(2019)
I never liked films that are too blatant with its allegories. If you're trying to symbolize something, be artistic about it.
El hoyo suffers from that problem.
The message is quite clear: excessive capitalism destroys society, and with the growing population the resources aren't quite enough for everyone.
The message comes across straight forward, at least until the end... Then they blow it by the end. It's like they suddenly wanted to intellectual about it but fail at it. The final decision is forced and it doesn't have much logic.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think that's precisely the message (or at least not all of it). I saw it more about human nature; how people piss on those below them and expect those above them to do the same. The system doesn't matter and even the movie's revolution is violently forced upon those below the instigators. Capitalism, socialism, it's all the same crap because of people.

It won't go down as one of my favourite ever films, but it was a good bit of escapism and did a good job of entertaining for its near 2 hour runtime.

Found a cheap dvd online, bought the sucker, it had a defect i didn't knew about and by the middle the movie stopped. I took it as god given sign, because the movie was really awful. Buk was right, the acting sucks, but it's mickey rourke, that's what you get, he really tried to sound like buk but instead he sounded like a pretentious latino drunker, a fake impersonation of an authentic soul.

You are absolutely right to recognize that the stare is simultaneously enlightened and manic - the central concerns of The Passion. Joan's face of pain and face of ecstasy are often indistinguishable. That's why according to religious accounts, the light of angels is not just beautiful and pleasant but also equally terrifying sight to behold. I can't help but be reminded of Bataille's fascination with the image of the face of a prisoner being tortured to death. The most radical forms of art are almost transcendent in nature - they are not reasoned or described conceptually but first encountered as "limit experiences".
https://intertheory.org/jorgensen_files/image006.jpg
The film revolves around her countenance. It really is a take on the Kuleshov effect with the reference frame being implied rather than shown. I think that's where the division happens for me personally. Whereas somebody of faith might imagine Joan's actual visions of god and see her euphoria, I lean more towards the psychology of such a claim. This film is a lot more painful without the glory of a miracle at its heart. It's a broken girl enraptured by failing mental health. As much as that's a false reading given the divine confirmations late in the picture, it also reads truer to history for me as an apostate. I feel like the faithless perspective hasn't really been explored as much. So much of the discourse surrounding the film is theological for obvious reasons.

With being directed by Lucio Fulci, this was one of the westerns I was most looking forward to. Needless to say it was very disappointing. When there was action there was the expected violence, but there wasn't nearly enough action. Besides the first 25 minutes and the last 5 minutes, it was a whole lot of sucky nothing.

Vivarium (2019, Lorcan Finnegan)
3
Interestingly dark satire on family life as an endless loop, a trap of routine, where raising a child is a nightmare, the father is literally digging his own grave working a job that is ultimately meaningless, and there's no way out of it until you die. At times grotesque, at times mildly creepy, Vivarium wears its metaphorical aspects on its sleeve throughout in what seems to be an attempt to examine a young couple's subliminal fears of parenthood but I thought it needed a much stronger vision/execution to elevate it above your average indie flick. Eisenberg's bland performance doesn't help things either (Imogen Poots, on the contrary, did a much better job).

Kids Return (1996, Takeshi Kitano)
4
Kitano's first film after recovery from a motorcycle accident, Kids Return is a beautifully low-key, understated, episodic but ultimately very lyrical affair. It doesn't hit you over the head with overblown dramatism or mindblowing plot twists - instead, it tells a very predictable, almost boring story, set to a quintessentially '90s soundtrack, about two delinquent high school misfits hanging out together, drifting apart and going separate ways in life, ending in failure and going back to square one. While not super intricately woven or particularly compelling or profound, the film has a simple, heartfelt story at its core, and is shot and edited with an unobtrusive, mundane elegance that paints life as a series of fleeting snapshots - bittersweet, awkward, comedic, trivial, as life mostly is.
Will keep an eye out for this :)
What dah f%ck is that picture of? I'm not even going to say wtf I think it is. Is that a female?

Interesting crime drama with Martha Plimpton and a host of other recognisable actors. It follows the action in a small town where a woman gets mixed up with an ex convict and the consequences all around them. It's very thoughtful and Nick Stahl is v. good in his part. the whole film has a kind of nervous inevitability about it but is portrayed at a good pace and very well done.

The Gentlemen (2019)
Guy Ritchie started his career with a bang (I know honeykid would disagree xD). "Lock, stock and two smoking barrels" and "Snatch" defined a genre. They were messy, fast, bold with great scripts and powerful performances. The man gained my respect. Enough for me to withstand every disappointment each of his films were after Snatch and keep looking forward to any new film he put out.
The Gentlemen was no exception. My expectations kept being high and I sat down expecting to watch a true Guy Ritchie film, if not as good as the first two hits, at least something that could make them justice.
I wasn't left disappointed. The film brought back many of his traits he had seemed to forgot how to use, presenting at the same time a more mature and cleaner style.
I didn't have as much fun as with Snatch, but I felt entertained and at times drawn to the world where Grant, McConaughey and Hunnam where convincingly exchanging jabs at each other in the old Guy Ritchie's style.
Very nice surprise to see the man closer to his balance!

The Unholy (1988)
This has all the vibes of a good 80's horror but fell flat, the opening credits was the best part of the movie.. nothing much ever happens after that, the main actor paying a priest is stiff and unlikable, I think they were going for the achetypal strong and quiet manly type but we are left with a void where there ought to be some kind of personality or vitality!! hell maybe they succeeded ...or as a priest a hint of ****ing warmth and goodness!! no this actor would be more suited to playing an evil henchman who's only job is to get killed by the hero.

Dunkirk, 8/10, and 1917, 5/10.
1917 struck me as corny (especially the dialogue) and uninspired. Wasn't too impressed with the "single shot" format since it was obvious where most of the cutting happened and Mendes didn't really do anything interesting with it. There were a few good scenes towards the end but that's about it. The soundtrack was particularly irritating.
Dunkirk was a more visceral and exciting experience, and I was invested in the story throughout, even if it wasn't a very emotionL affair. The dialogue felt much more realistic and the soundtrack was great. Visual elements and sound design also were far superior to 1917.

I am in favour of supporting this (unorthodox) reading which explores the psychological terrain as its central concern. Now that you brought it up I can see and do appreciate its highly effective use of the Kuleshov effect, and in fact I think this is where the psychological reading dovetails with the religious reading (something that I've tried to show by bringing in modern aesthetic theorists/philosophers like Bataille who have continued to draw "secular" readings from religious sources). The underlying motives for Joan's behavior might have been religious or nationalist in nature, but the emphasis on her countenance makes this film much more about immanence than about transcendence. What we witness are very much the effects on her (the immanent reading), as opposed to their causes which remain implied but never fully revealed (that's what the transcendent readings have often chosen to focus on). In this sense, the emphasis shifts away from her motives for her seemingly irrational behavior towards more humane concerns - the lived reality of her premonition.
The Kuleshov technique then reinforces such a split between effects (the main frame) and their causes (the frames which are implied/secondary).

Yeah, by no means is my take the core conceit of the film. It's just a particular avenue I was drawn to personally. Given that the transcendent material (nationalism, religion) are the prime movers, it was very easy to for me to eschew them and re-contextualize the immanent material. I actually read a fair amount about the history of the film print and it's the transcendent material that drew the ire of censors. Anti-British, blasphemous, etc. I think you're correct in that Dreyer smartly made this a very tangible and human story which is probably why it stands the test of time.

I saw a couple people discussing this along with Time Trap, and I hadn't seen either of them. Coherence appears to be the more highly rated of the two, and I found this to be pretty enjoyable. The pacing is similar to Uncut Gems where it never releases, and this might be one of the most attractive ways to tell a Schrodinger's cat type of story.
I'm not going to pretend I understand a fraction of quantum theory, but I've read on the subject enough to grasp the idea. The movie definitely keeps your head spinning trying to figure things out, but in the end it's still hard to dissect (which I guess is kinda the point). Only 90 minutes, so I'd say it's worth watching once for anyone remotely interested in this kind of mind game. Not sure if I'm on board enough to watch Time Trap though.

Way too long. It's more westerny than I expected and it's not a zombie flick at all so I don't get the poster. It's a bit like the Hotel California - you can check in anytime you like but... An old couple run an Inn out in the middle of nowhere Australia and when folks check in they kill them. They use an interesting method, not sure I totally buy it though. A sheriff begins investigating missing people which leads him to the Inn and that's it. Has some decent scenery but it's not good or bad enough to get excited about.

A film on Netflix that I found. I didn't know what to expect, but overall I enjoyed it. Nicolas Cage plays a pilot who must try and land a plane safely after millions of people across the planet randomly vanish into thin air with no explanation. It's a good action film, with a strong concept. I felt the film did well in giving the first 30 minutes or so to set the scene, and getting us to know the characters so it didn't feel hollow once the action kicked off.

The Invisible Man (2020, Leigh Whannell)

Given all the untapped potential this classic story continues to offer and all the technology available to make the best of it, this was a wasted opportunity - and ultimately a disappointment. Some of the suspense was well done early on but then it kind of deflated and lost its edge. It just didn't go nearly as dark, or suspenseful, or bold, or original as I wished it would.

Enjoyable but a bit underwhelming.
Believe it or not, I was an extra in that movie, shot at Universal in the L.A. Valley. Got 3 day's pay out of it and some pretty good catered food. One of the only movies I ever heard of that was made to promote a record...:D

Coherence (2013)
\rating_3
I think it's one of the best ultra low budget science fictions films ever made-- certainly in the 21st Century.

Dust Devil (1992)
A rewatch from way back. It's such a shame that Richard Stanley vanished from the business for a long time (and his comeback film, Color Out of Space, wasn't that good either) because this one's really good. In many ways, it reminds me of Fulci's work even though it's not nearly as violent. Beautiful, haunting and dreamlike African nightmare.

Léon Morin, Priest (Jean-Pierre Melville, 1961) 4.5
Quite a departure from the other Melville films that I had seen previously, instead of relying on exteriors and landscapes to create striking images, Melville relies on the performances and physicality of the two lead actors. Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Paul Belmondo both give terrific performances, subdued at times but packed emotion, conveying immense complex feelings. From their first encounter, I was hooked on their relationship. The film builds up great sexual tension and tackles its central themes with respect and sincerity which I think adds to the power and makes it feel genuine in the same way Melville treats the codes of the cop or the criminal, studying their dynamics with other humans.
Vampyr (Carl Theodor Dreyer, 1932) 4
This almost silent film could have been made without any spoken dialogue at all, as Dreyer utilises all the common elements of silent cinema combining striking images, clever editing, moody photography and a suspenseful story. Some of the sequences are absolutely superb, with Dreyer really succeeding in creating a nightmare type atmosphere of terror.
Frankenstein (James Whale, 1931) 4
Another unforgettable horror film that similarly manages to build up fantastic atmosphere and has a number of striking set pieces that elevate the film to a high level. It’s a classic story, but Whale’s direction makes sure that there’s no excess or cheesiness holding it down, his cinematography and editing make for a really exciting and sometimes emotional film. A great back to back double feature with Vampyr, as two superb and massively influential films.
The Silence (Ingmar Bergman, 1963) 3.5
As usual this Bergman film is mysterious and enthralling, with two strong performances at its heart as is often the case with the director. The story remains largely unexplained, with very little dialogue, leaving feelings and memories to be discerned through actions instead, on the contrast to Autumn Sonata that I recently watched.

Marco D'Amore, 2019
3
If you watch gomorra la serie you know this is a must watch. Marco d'amore brings the vibe of one of the most famous episodes in the series: inferno 3x03 that took place in albania. This time takes place in riga-latvia and flashbacks from naples. European picture with an outstanding cinematography, the way they film vehicles and the surroundings are at the level of a jarmusch and wenders. I especially liked the dark tonality of the environment, it's the perfect tone for a film in the baltic region. The intense escalating simplistic soundtrack driving to an action sequences are enough to glue you to the seat, also the scenes are at a level of realism that you don't see in any american picture, americans fictionalize and even romanticize violent action scenes, this italians try to make them raw. If i hadn't watched the series i'd rate this lower, emotionally was very lazy with too many flaws.
Blitz (2011)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/07/Blitz_Movie_Poster.jpg/220px-Blitz_Movie_Poster.jpg
Fast paced Brit thriller featuring mis-matched cops, Jason Statham and Paddy Considine, on the trail of a vindictive, fame-hungry serial killer (Aidan Gillen). Pacey with good back-up from Brit stalwarts like Mark Rylance and David Morrissey. As an aside, one thing puzzled me, when they 'pull the sheet' of the suspect (after some Sweeney type sexist banter) it shows that he has been convicted of assault with a deadly weapon yet the cop deigns this "petty stuff"....bonkers!! Still:

Inseminoid (1981) - 3/10. Just rubbish. Stoic acting. The ladies were pretty enough (a lot of them Brits), but the story, the direction and every other aspect of it was just crap. Tomato ketchup blood, fighting and the works. In one scene the villain has a fat belly, next one she doesn't. The camera angles were sooo bad that you can see the teeth fillings of actors when they were yelling!!! But still these 80s cheap horror flicks have a certain amount charm, that is just undeniable.

eXistenZ (David Cronenberg, 1999) 4
I remember watching Videodrome a number of years ago now, and there was something about the atmosphere that Cronenberg created in that film that left me with a really uneasy visceral feeling all the way through. It had me hooked from start to finished, engulfed in its fantasy world on the edge of my seat. This was a similar experience, with an engrossing suspenseful plot (very much a precursor to Inception in many ways) that never lets you feel comfortable with what you’re seeing. The film succeeds in its overabundance of style, its disgusting to look at and makes you feel uncomfortable as Cronenberg explores his fascination with human flesh and penetration. I was particularly impressed with the performances of Jude Law and Jennifer Jason Leigh, the former who I am not a huge fan of and the latter who I haven’t seen in enough films. Through the imagery, editing and design of the world Cronenberg creates a relationship that has great chemistry and sexual tension. Every touch, every bite, every shot fired, you experience as if you are part of the video game too.
Sisters (Brian De Palma, 1972) 3
This Hitchcock homage begins with aplomb combining content and style perfectly with a murder witnessed by a journalist neighbour who seeks to find out the truth about what she has seen. De Palma plays around with lots of tropes we’ve seen before, put in ways that work to heighten the suspense and intrigue of the story, for example with some the split camera sequences. Unfortunately I feel the story spirals too much off its original track, giving us too much William Finley and not enough Margot Kidder.
Un Flic (Jean-Pierre Melville, 1972) 4
Jean-Pierre Melville’s swan-song is just as stylish and impressive as his other crime films for me, oozing with a certain coolness and filled with awesome suspenseful set pieces. There’s the opening bank robbery that really epitomises everything the director does so well with his blue colour palette capturing the crashing wavs and pouring waves as a band of criminals pull of a heist. I know the helicopter sequence apparently comes in for some criticism from certain people, but that was another scene that I found fun and suspenseful. Alain Delon once again captures the imperfect human character so well, as Melville explores and contrasts the codes of cops and criminals. My only complaint was that this could have been more ambitious. More Alain Delon and more Catherine Deneuve, with a great exploration of their lives and relationship.
Primer (Shane Carruth, 2004) 2
Incredibly impressive considering the budget it was made on, but it's a film that attempts to deliberately obfuscate the plot, mainly through dialogue, in an attempt to make it look more complex and “ambitious” than it is. That’s not a criticism, because it clearly succeeds and the plot is interesting enough but as someone who has now watched hundreds of great movies I have got to be honest with my assessment and say that as a film this did not interest me much. Every stylistic shot, dialogue choice, edit, seemed to be to add disorientating layers to “dress up” the film rather than tell a story using cinematic language. I’m glad I finally watched this though.

An a24 production but you really can't tell. It's all around new york city in the eighties, the most violent year. They made a video to sell the story, this one (https://tinyurl.com/u9hfmt4), very interesting, something i'm very interested about, when i look at pictures like this (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=60096) it's fascinating culturally, it makes me wonder. The movie is not about that, you don't 'fell the streets' of that period, it's about a business man trying to stick with his morals codes while violence is destroying his profits / business, convincing his business partners / cooperators not to fight back. Nothing is interesting in a subject that i find very interesting. I think a movie about new york of that period shouldn't even have a plot, because it would draw the attention at the wrong place, the attention should be in everything except the plot, but if it does have a plot, it better be good, serpico good, dog day afternoon good.

Dr Terror's House of Horros (1965) - 6.5/10. Another good anthology film from the other side of the pond. Not as tight and tense and Tales from the Crypt, but enjoyable enough. The third story went for a comedic angle, which really dropped the tension. Anthology movies are not quite frequent, and most of the time, the makers just mess it up. When done right, they can be so good.

No Escape - ⭐️⭐️
Starring Owen Wilson, Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan, this film follows an engineer and his family who move to a South East Asian country due to his career but their lives are put in danger when they become trapped in a violent uprising.
This film was ok to pass the time, but I felt it was underwhelming due to the lack of development for any of the characters. The action scenes are fairly good, but with the ending feeling like an anti-climax, it becomes a forgettable film.
6 Underground - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Elsewhere, I watched this film which I thoroughly enjoyed. I love Ryan Reynolds so I thought I would give this a go. Reynolds is charismatic in the lead role and really helps carry the film, along with the other 5 main characters that make up the team. They form an anonymous vigilante group who seek to right the wrongs of the world and make the world a better place. I hope there is a sequel, as I felt there is definetly potential for more films.

A lovely film! The entire cast was great in this, but especially Saoirse Ronan's and Florence Pugh's performances were amazing. I haven't read the book or seen any of the previous adaptations, so I can't say much about how "original" the screenplay is, but as someone who didn't know the story yet, I thought that it was great. It's noticeable that this film is adapted from a fairly long book because sometimes it feels like the story of the film jumps around a bit too fast. The costume design and set design were great too and the score is fantastic. One of my favorite films of 2019!

Although it's not the first film that has done this, it's very likely the most difficult film which has and that's due to both the amazing way that some of the scenes were shot and the great editing.

Although it's not the first film that has done this, it's very likely the most difficult film which has and that's due to both the amazing way that some of the scenes were shot and the great editing.

Jojo Rabbit (2019)
I liked the two other Taika Waititi films that I'd seen and after this one, I can definitely say that I'm a fan. I find the tone of his films very original and he manages to combine a serious subject and comedy way in a way where neither feels out of place. The child actors are well cast, the screenplay is great and there were some very beautiful shots.

I agree with just about everything you said about all four of these films.

I really liked this movie, especially the combo of Isaac & Chastain.
I like both actors, for me chastain is one of the very few good actresses acting in hollywood, in my opinion. When it comes to new york, to me, it have to have something more than just acting and plot, even worse if you sell the movie talking about the most violent era, taking in consideration what was made in terms of cinematography because of that era, it’s one of the only times i enjoy america culturally. They sold this movie in a way, they made it in another way, is related but missed so much. I could rate it higher, probably, but when i make the contrast between the material available and what they made...

I was hoping for something of the same quality of the book; the movie is about the last chapters: red cloud 'touching the pen' and driving his people to reservations, the last frontier of crazy horse and sitting bull, that ended with their deaths. A nice feature, both sides of a story, with an interesting character ohiyesa / charles.

Stiff A.K.A. Necro Lover (2010) - 3.5/10. As the movie name says... Stiff, acting-wise it was stiff. The girl was cute enough. The movie meanders on with dull conversations. The plot is pretty much laid out in the open up front so there is suspense or anything. But for a movie that cost so low, it wasn't made woefully. A wee bit better story telling and it would have been a better movie.

Murder in Miami (2014) - 3/10. A dull low budget thriller. The twist in the end was pretty alright. But everything leading up to it was bad. There was a cheap tribute to Psycho in there. And the ladies were gorgeous for sure. But a hopeless movie!

Miss Fisher and athe Crypt of Tears (2020) - 6.5/10. My favourite TV show ever gets a movie and they mess it all up with mythological mumbo jumbo. A wee bit more money they get and forget about the story and just go for grandeur. Should have stuck to a well written murder mystery. 6.5 might be generous, but I do have a soft spot for the show.

And that's it, only three films i really liked from last year. I was thinking about something profound / sensitive / insightful to write, meaningless anyhow, but perceptive edgy on my part, most people are not noticing it, i hope. I watched the movie last night, and i've been reading the "reviews" on letterboxd, and that made me think twice before writing something right now, i'll just say: the last scene, one of the music of the centuries, the antonio vivaldi four seasons rv. 315 have been around for nearly 300 years now, if you don't understand what that scene meant you don't understand the significance of a woman and bonbons, maybe worse, you don't know why we seek art. For the males who didn't like the movie, you could tell where this was going when the box fallen in the ocean.

B-grade combination of Harlequin and slasher/Giallo. It has its moments but as a whole, it's clumsy and boring. I don't know much about Ulli Lommel but he seems to have some sort of vision yet lacks the skill to put it on film. The intro is the best part of this movie and I kinda liked the lead actress. Barely above trash.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) - 6.8/10. Took a break from B movie sojourn. And i think I dumped in my pants. Should have stuck with cheesy stuff. This movie was well done. Did use some usual jump scare or false alarm tropes early on. But after that it was nice. The director did mighty fine job. Brian Cox dominated the screen. But since I live alone, I steer clear of ghost movies. Making full use of lockdown and watching these during the day time.

Well it was all in the first 20-25 mins of a movie. After that it was a grind. And there was nothing special that PH cant offer! ;)
Blood Father (2016)
This popped up in my Netflix list the other day so I decided to give it a go. I'm a sucker for revenge type flicks, no matter how bad, and in that Mel Gibson is in this one I figured it can't be that much of a risk. I was pleasantly surprised. There's nothing really special here as the plot is predictable just by reading the first letter of the synopsis, but even knowing most every turn it was still a decent ride. As always (in my opinion), Gibson does a great job of a temper-rattled ex-con trying to do right. I guess his crazy may be mostly autopilot now for him, but I still enjoy it and he is still full of energy, milking scenes effortlessly.
It's a decent cast, decent acting, and I never found myself drifting off but it is still a B movie, opening doors to character development that never go anywhere. I imagine most people watching this aren't looking for that anyway, so it's all good by me.
A solid 3 for what it was designed to be.

Machine Girl (2008) - 5/10. Another mindless splatter flick. I gave Tokyo Gore Police a try a few weeks ago, so thought of watching this one too. Although the action scenes are better choreographed, it's not that good. Well neither is the other one to begin with. This one just lacks the style. It's kinda something like put your brains to the side and watch it. The charm of blood being sprayed like a fountain does wear off pretty quickly. After that it's all fluff.

I actually like Tokyo Gore Police quite a bit. It's positively weird and twisted (the amputee with swords, whole self-harm as a fashion, etc.). Machine Girl wasn't nearly as good. I don't remember if I've seen the two others you mention.

I mean if you put a gun to my head I would pick TGP, not because it's any better, the girl is hotter. That is all it boils down to for me!!! It's a toss up between the two. If you look at the IMDB rating they are both 5.9. TGP has a little bit more panache, if you can call it that, with the weird character design and all. But Machine Girl fight sequences are done a bit better.

I saw it when it hit DVD and thought that it was OK - at the very least not the utterly atrocious dumpster fire that the initial reactions had led me to expect. Can't deny it's a hot mess, but I consider it part of its charm as Kelly was allowed to really go hog-wild in terms of casting and set-pieces in a way that he couldn't with Darko (which is saying something). I did notice it had just hit MUBI, but nothing about a live stream with Kelly - I'll probably settle for watching it as is.

What a fun movie. Brian has a bit of an issue. A parasite named Aylmer (pronounced Elmer) has latched onto him and is basting his brain with an addictive hallucinogen. All Brian has to do is make sure Aylmer has access to brains (human preferably) which is what he feeds on and Aylmer will continue giving Brian his fix. So what you get is a gloriously, gory story about codependency. I watched the last 45 minutes of this with a huge grin. It's funny, uncomfortable body horror, corny fx which work really well and buckets of blood. Loved the scene where a guy gets on the NYC subway with a wicker basket, padlocked shut, sees Brian and leaves. Even Basket Case ain't playing with Brian. One scene that had me rolling was the withdrawal scene. Aylmer, the turdy looking parasite that speaks, is taunting Brian non stop and a hallucinating Brian pulls something out of his ear which led to a fountain of gore spraying from his head. Basic explanation, much funnier when you see it. Outstanding!

I wasn't that impressed when I watched this a few years ago. Maybe I was high or I just wasn't that into westerns at the time. It's almost like a movie with interconnected stories as we follow the very desirable gun in the title as it changes hands several times. Great job by the cast especially Jimmy Stewart, Dan Duryea, and Shelley Winters. A contender for my westerns list.

The whole feel of the film is....eerie. The dialogue is tight and the performances good. The paranoia is tangible in our main protagonist and seeps into the viewer, well, me anyway.

Dirty Harry - 1971
Clint is the man ha. Hard to believe dude is still making movies in 2020. Clint doesn't disappoint as a badass in the flick. Of course that famous line was enjoyable to finally see unfold. As a star vehicle it definitely works for Clint.
Anyways I see why this movie was really something in it's day. Probably quite innovative for the time. To me though the story was a little silly. I don't think it quite knew what it wanted the bad guy to be. He is like 3 different type of villains in one, he was kind of a mess. The action and performance were fine but motivations and unrealized turns of the movie were weird for me. What the hell was his motivation? To get Harry? To get money? To just cause chaos? Strange.
Movie just sort of left me unfulfilled besides some cool action sequences for 1971 and iconic Eastwood.
I'd give it a 2.8 out of 5

The Invention of Lying - 2009
I had seen this movie before but it has been a long time since. It definitely has some laughs. The beginning had me cracking up. Then there are some laughs sprinkled in. But ultimately it losses it's zest once the gimmick of being too honest to the point where it becomes mean. Then it falls into the trap of going the generic romantic comedy route. It just had the potential to be a lot more to me then it ultimately became. It has some laughs and some sweet spots but you just leave it wanting more from it. I don't know.
Gervais certainly employs all his comedy buddies in this movie. Everytime you turn around there is someone who made it big after this movie. Gaffigan, Louis C.K., Jonah Hill, Tina Fey the list goes on and on. It's also funny who Gervais is very anti-religious but sort of in a way is a pro-religious movie. Pro heaven for sure ha. You could make an argument it isn't pro-religious as well. Anyways it's worth a gander for a few laughs and to see some stars before they were big stars haha.
2 out of 5.

Probably the most successful dramatic scenery of an pos-apocalyptic western film, the photography alone is enough for you to enjoy this one, it was for me. This had dilemas, the most basic one, in a survivalist existence how to deal with morals? Gladly this one didn't round everything around the word of god, like the book of eli, instead it rounded around a loved one, a child, the future. Other one: in such a mess of depravity and malice all with impunity does it worth our effort to keep going, to play the game in a existence ruled by the rules of the wicked? Step by step being reminded of the bits of light, the remembrances, losing them to be able to survive in a great darkness.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
There are some funny jokes and so-so action but other than that it's boring and pointless sequel. Even the humor is much tamer than I remember from the previous films (like boobs scene at the morgue in the second film). Not that I was expecting much...

Action comedy that doesn't have quite enough of either. Surprising change of style by Berg compared to his usual ultra-patriotic efforts. Inoffensive and watchable. Wahlberg playing himself as usual :)

8/10.
This movie really held my interest throughout. It's about a young man who apparently can look into the souls of strangers and tell whether they're going to Heaven or Hell. He also thinks he's a Son of God. Oh, and a ghost follows him around. I also want to go to Indianapolis now - it was beautifully shot. https://www.betacinema.com/media/images/image_scaler_downloaded/78e5c4aa37733c2caac5c5179f52319c.jpg_image_scaler_650x0.jpg

I cannot believe this because I watched this movie about 5 years ago and I gave it 2.5. I remember saying that I didn't even like it that much but I wanted to give it credit for what it did well. I've been saying ever since that I didn't care for it, but I didn't even remember it that correctly. I would say that the comedy and musical interludes took me out of the movie, but these are actually brief, sporadic, and in fact they add to the greatness of the movie. The very first thing that's noticeable is how the movie looks, and I wouldn't hesitate to say that this is one of the best looking movies I've ever seen. The score is brilliant. There are several excellent characters and performances led by John Wayne as Ethan. For the most part Ethan is an ahole, but it's a great character and Wayne is fantastic. The Searchers is dramatic, thrilling, and even horrific, and when he picks her up and says that thing to her, I just died right there, tears instantly streaming down my face. This is top 10 material for me I loved it that much. I may not have ever even tried it again if it weren't for the upcoming westerns countdown. Even with that, I wasn't planning on trying it again until CR talked about it in his thread.

The Dirty Dozen (1967): 6/10
Outwardly entertaining enough, especially the explosive final sequence, but slighty lacking in the intelligence department.
Still miles better than Suicide Squad, which was made with a similar premise.

Lonely Hearts (2006): 8/10 Based on the true story of Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck who teamed up to prey on unsuspecting lonely people. In the late 40's/early 50's, Raymond, a predator, wooed many women through the "Lonely Hearts" ads in the newspaper. Martha Beck, also a psychopath, not only fueled Raymond's sinful ways but also taunted him to the next level. This pair was mentioned in another movie but I thought the script writer was just developing a subplot. Then, I found "Lonely Hearts" and realized it was more than a script gimmick.

Definitely a film that gets richer upon each viewing. I think I thought it was great when I first saw it, but remember enjoying it much much more on subsequent viewings. I think when I was younger I was eager to watch as much as I could and didn't always appreciate everything fully, which is understandable. It's a beautiful film, my favourite colour Ford and your comments make me want to watch it again as soon as possible :)

This was better on TV than seeing him live a few months ago, when the entire place was filled with loud drunks. My last public event for sure after having the same experience when I saw the great band America.

'Never Rarely Sometimes Always' (2020)
Director: Eliza Hittman
Sidney Flanigan is absolutely brilliant in this playing a troubled teen with a secret to keep. It's hyper-real at times. We can feel her pain. Some utterly heartbreaking scenes including one single take piece of quality cinema.
It's downbeat, sombre, melancholic and moody. And those are it's best qualities. The viewer is reminded of British cinema in the vein of Andrea Arnold and perhaps Cristian Mungiu's '4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days'. It's not over scripted, and it has a lovely washed out colour palette to ram home the "realness".
Anybody who likes troubled teens movies or ultra real stuff may want to take a look. It's one of the finest movies I've seen this year so far. Hittman has created a gem.

Necropolis (1986) - 1.5/10. Of all the garbage I have seen during the lockdown, this has to be the worst. Can't even call it a B grade movie. C grade is more like it. Bad acting. Mindless plot. Probably heavily edited, the one I saw. And the crappy dancing in front of the devil. Yikes.

Considering this a movie since it's only a 4-part series on Netflix. A respectable story telling of Madame CJ Walker, though it did focus more on things outside of her business dealings than I would have liked. Octavia Spencer nails it, but Tiffany Haddish might be the miscast of the decade as Madame Walker's daughter.

Gretel & Hansel (2020)
With his third film, Oz Perkins continues his downward trend (February is great and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House is good). This retelling of a familiar fairy tale has some nice moments but unlike his prior films, it fails to maintain the atmosphere for the whole movie. It's disjointed, visually uneven and only passable acted (especially the boy playing Hansel was quite bad, also hated Gretel's narration). Quite a disappointment, really.

aka Camping Terror. A slasher film near the end of the slasher craze. Had expected a bit more from it seeing that it's a Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust) flick. It's silly, the kills are ok, nothing special, has a good looking cast and it's a bit of a mystery without any clues ala the original Friday the 13th or My Bloody Valentine which is nice. Stars the Cave Girl from the major motion picture Cavegirl, once again sporting her wonderful Dyan Cannon 80's curly 'do.

Really? WOW! What companies, or schools? Judas is a demanding role. The thing that made this show particularly stellar (besides the obvious Webber & Rice combination) was that it was essentially using the Gospel of Judas *way* ahead of its acceptance. It was "around" in concept for a while, but only recently started picking up serious speed because they actually found a copy of the thing. Brilliant play end-to-end.
One more thing: The thing I try to explain to people about "Broadway" is that you see and hear people that nail the precise note for a living to a degree you'll rarely encounter anywhere ever. Chest voice, head voice, screeching, .....all dead on.
See Les Miserables with a production that uses a rotating stage, and you'll want to go back and see it 40 times.
This needs its own thread in off-topic land here.

I actually played Judas in high school. We were the first high school to ever do a production of the show. I love having discovered another theater geek on this site...there is probably so much we could talk about.

Gosford Park
A murder mystery that is basically about rich snobby people in a mansion having endless boring conversations. Seriously the first half of this film seems to be about nothing, i get that it is introducing all the characters and setting things up but it is so tedious and there is way to many needless characters in this. After the murder finally happens it picks up the pace by a millimeter, and after another round of boring conversations the killer is reveled but by then i had stopped caring. It you are a huge Downton Abbey fan you will probably love this as its written by the same guy

I always get nervous revisiting some of my childhood favorites. Are they really as good as I remember? Is my memory about to get crushed? Happy to say that I still like this one.
I love Max Dugan Returns. It's one of those movies that I can watch over and over again, and never get tired of it.

Good Ol' Freda (2013)
This is an immensely engaging, informative, and touching documentary by Ryan White about Freda Kelly, who was the long time secretary to the Beatles from their beginning to 10 years later when the group broke up.
Always behind the scenes, she was tireless in her fan club duties and as secretary and assistant to Brian Epstein and the rest of the Beatles organization.
She had resisted telling her story as well as the Beatles' from her point of view for decades. But when her grandson was born, she decided to participate in a frank documentary as a gift to him, and also for posterity.
Her honesty and integrity very much shines through in this production. She's not the least braggadocious nor does she pose as a celebrity. The interviews and recaps of the glory days of the Beatles are simply a frank and fascinating story of a group and a family.
Available on Amazon and certain streaming facilities.

I had been aware of the film Targets before, but recently I've grown a lot more interested in seeing it after reading this Quentin Tarantino "review" of it - https://thenewbev.com/tarantinos-reviews/targets/
I say "review" because if you read it you'll see it's more of an article explaining the film's conception, really fascinating stuff. I'm guessing you're probably quite aware of most of what he's talking about anyway but it's great to read through his enthusiasm and passion for film in these pieces he's now done for his cinema website.

Scream (1996) - 5/10. Somehow I do feel this movie hasn't aged well. Probably coz it's a re-watch and I know what is going to happen. Even if it was a first time watch I probably wouldn't score it more than a 5. The grainy pictures of the 70s and 80s and ketchup blood made the genre a bit repetitive and dull but charming none the less.

The Seduction of Dr. Fugazzi (2009) - 2/10. Lame excuse for a movie. Makes no sense. Clearly the director/writer/producer/lead actress doesn't have a clue what she is doing. I think she understands sex sells, so stuff the movie with it. And I have no clue what Faye Dunaway is doing in this pile of garbage. Did she need the paycheck so badly??

I really enjoyed this film, the pace pulls you right into what they're experiencing, and from my knowledge, the real life adrenaline rush involved in gambling. Unfortunately quite a few people I know suffer from gambling problems, so I could definitely relate to it. People really are that infuriating when they became almost enchanted like the characters in the film. Loved the music at the end credits.

I'm glad to say I've seen this movie, because Hoffman and Phoenix are extraordinary on screen together. However, the plot itself didn't draw me in as much as I'd like. I can understand the portrayal of themes (WWII societal tones and attitudes, cult conformity), but in the end it didn't feel very substantial.

On this second viewing of the film, while I respect what Tarantino was trying to do in terms of doing something different from Vol. 1, ultimately I was somewhat underwhelmed by the film. Now one of my least faves from this director.

Probably one that a lot have heard of but have never actually seen. It's too bad, as there's some fun to be had with this short one. For starters - great fx! You get wires, a big inflatable hand, poor looking miniatures being destroyed, dolls, a spherical object restin' in the highway and it's not a piece of the car, etc. Almost every '50's sci-fi/horror film cliche makes an appearance at some point. It does take awhile for the 50 foot woman to happen but that just gives more time for story, character building and all that stoopid movie stuff.

This was pretty good and probably pretty ballsy considering the "brat pack" films that were around. The direction is pretty flat which often happens when the novel is adapted for a cinema audience but constantly keeps the interest. I've read the novel which I found a bit hit and miss too so perhaps no surprise. The yuppie/preppie mindset can be put across much better on page though, film ages it vindictively! :)

Ikiru (Akira Kurosawa, 1952) 4
A very sad and moving film that looks at how an elderly man looks back at his life with regret and only starts “to live” once he finds out that he has stomach cancer. I found this film to be close to Ozu in many ways in how it deals with themes of children neglecting their parents, for me the saddest moments are throughout the film when is son is completely ignorant of his father’s suffering. The final act does slightly threaten to become too didactic for its own good, but before it can Kurosawa reminds us of why he is one of the most powerful visual directors ever as he cuts between images of our protagonist’s final days.
The Wages of Fear (Henri-Georges Clouzot, 1953) 3.5
I have heard a lot of praise for the cinematography of this film, and whilst the stark black and white photography does help extenuate the harsh conditions and deteriorating mental wellbeing of the characters, I must say that I find Clouzot to be slightly inconsistent. Much like Diabolique, you have some sequences which are absolutely outstanding that will stay in the mind for a long time after viewing, but there are also large chunks of the plot that are unmemorable and not overly cinematic either. Once our characters are on the road the film really does get going and there are some very suspenseful well-constructed sequences.
I thought the ending was unnecessary fatalism.
Rain Man (Barry Levinson, 1988) 1
Sorry to people who are fans of this film, but this film did virtually nothing for me. There are no interesting cinematic elements that are utilised to tell the story that it wants to tell about disability, so it relies solely on the performances of that main two characters. Whilst Dustin Hoffman is very dedicated to his role - and this risks sounding harsh - his character becomes repetitive, and even more annoying are the way in which one cliche scenes occurs after another as Tom Cruise’s character goes on a “journey”. I recently watched Green Book, which I thought was heavily flawed and not overly cinematic, yet enjoyable thanks largely to the film's humour. I struggled to find Tom Cruise compelling or warm enough at any point.
Dunkirk (Christopher Nolan, 2017) 3
Nolan deliberately chooses to use a lot more restraint and strips this story down to fewer elements, which works because instead of exploring complex ideas we have universal human emotions that have been repeated throughout history. There are a number of really nice visual images that Nolan strikes up such as the small fishing trawler led by Mark Rylance, passing a much bigger Navy ship on its way to Dunkirk. The decision to mainly rely on unknown actors helps the story create almost archetypal characters that make the story powerful because we know that in reality there were many of these types of people in their various roles doing their bit for their country. The archetypal nature of the characters and other limited elements do however have their drawbacks as the film begins to feel repetitive in certain areas and feels unsure how to tie everything up together.

Very impressive cinematography and film work as expected, and I thought everything else was just as impressive. This rating may go up or down on a rewatch, because I'm definitely in the group that kinda says it's easy to make a good war movie because of how it appeals to emotion and uses historical facts. I think I still give the slight edge to Parasite for that reason on best of 2019.

'Beach Rats' (2017)
Dir. Eliza Hittman
https://www.anothergaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/film-beachrats-review-adv08-8bf941d2-9330-11e7-89fa-bb822a46da5b-1050x669.jpg
My 2nd Eliza Hittman this week - This film confirms for me that she's is a very special director. She's so unafraid to go as slow / dark / seedy / emotive / arthouse or whatever the scene needs to push on. Plus I think she films on 16mm film (technical buffs can correct me), which gives the neorealistic look an even more authentic touch.
It centres around a young Brooklyn man desperately discovering his sexuality in an environment that is not easy. It's a well trodden path, but it's testament to Hittman's craft and vision that she can make a film with old substance feel relatively new. With this film and 'Never Rarely Sometimes Always', Hittman seems to be striking a chord with new American indie cinema. I hope she's got plenty more in her to come.

The Furies (1950)
3.5+
https://debravega.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/furies3.jpg?w=656
Anthony Mann directs this melodramatic western in which characters are more likely to trade jabs than lead. "The Furies" refers to an enormous ranch owned by T. C. Jeffords (Walter Huston). He's pretty much a hardass as is his daughter Vance (Barbara Stanwyck). The drama comes from their up and down relationship and the people in their lives. Great performances and dialogue, and the movie just keeps getting better as it goes along. Definitely recommended for those of you gorging on westerns but looking for a little bit of a different flavor.

Sea Fever (2019)
Pretty standard horror flick about the meeting of an unknown lifeform and a bunch of people. Kinda like Scifi-horror but instead of space, it happens on a boat at sea. There are some stupid things in the script, but it's pretty watchable.

Slightly tipping its hat to other films but interesting in its own way. The dialogue and paranoia pulls this through. Good effort by Toby Jones.

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018) - First Time on Blu-ray rating_4_5
My Hero Academia is one of the most popular current anime for good reason and Two Heroes is a fanboy's dream come true. The animation is stunning, all the most important characters make their return, its storyline holds a place within the My Hero Academia lore, the action set-pieces are up to par with the series' best episodes, Yuki Hayashi's musical score ramps up the excitement like always, and the film itself is perfectly accessible even if you've never seen a single episode which makes it pretty perfect for introducing newcomers to Kohei Horikoshi's rapidly rising anime and manga franchise. Funimation also delivers yet another excellent English dub. Justin Briner is once again excellent as Izuku Midoriya, who was born Quirkless in a world where 80% of the population has superpowers but unexpectedly got a shot at being a hero when, after a chance encounter, All Might informed him of One-For-All, a Quirk that could be passed down to an heir and is now a hero-in-training at U.A. High School struggling to control One-For-All. Anyone who's ever had a dream that won't die should find this character likable and easy to connect with. Speaking of, Chris Sabat is equally impressive, in what's quickly becoming one of his signature roles along with Vegeta from Dragon Ball and Roronoa Zoro from One Piece, as All Might, the greatest pro hero to date who chose Midoriya as the one to inherit One-For-All due to his own failing health and is also a teacher at U.A. Clifford Chapin is also rock-solid as Katsuki Bakugo, one of Midoriya's classmates ever since kindergarten who once constantly criticized him for being Quirkless but now has a conflicted view of him, seeing him as a rival to outdo. Horikoshi has openly stated that he based the character on Tetsuo Shima, the iconic villain in Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira, and it doesn't take very long to figure that out due to his behavior ("Why would we tell some weak-ass villains like you?" "You just don't learn, huh?" "Don't order me around!"), taunting villains while slinging fire at them, even though the character himself is one of the good guys. Luci Christian, who many will remember as Honey-senpai in Ouran High School Host Club and Kaname Chidori in Full Metal Panic!, is also excellent as Ochaco Uraraka, one of Midoriya's classmates who can defy gravity and clearly has a thing for Midoriya. Ryoji Kaji himself J. Michael Tatum, who many will also remember as Uncle Wabisuke in Summer Wars and Kyoya Ootori in Ouran, also does some of his best work here as Tenya Iida, Midoriya's super-stern classmate who has engines for legs. Eva fans should also watch out for Toji Suzuhara himself Justin Cook as Eijiro Kirishima, yet another classmate who is one of the few who can calm Bakugo down, perfectly capturing the character's cool head and generally "chill" personality. Yet another Eva fans should watch out for is Dr. Akagi herself Colleen Clinkenbeard as Momo Yaoyorozu, who can produce next to any object by simply springing it from any part of her body. One more Eva fans will want to watch out for is Mari Makinami herself Trina Nishimura—still think it's super cool that there's an actual Japanese dubbing anime for Funimation—as Kyoka Jiro, who can listen in to her surroundings with headphone jacks that hang from her earlobes. Ray Chase is better here as David "Dave" Shield, one of All Might's old friends who is also a scientist building gear for pro heroes, than he was as Gendo Ikari in the Netflix dub of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Sailor Moon fans will want to watch out for Haruka Tenou/Sailor Uranus herself Erica Mendez as Melissa, Dave's daughter who aspires to be just like him. Also of note are David Matranga as Shoto Todoroki who controls both fire and ice, Caitlin Glass as Mina Ashido who can produce acid from her skin, and Monica Rial as Tsuyu Asui who has characteristics of a frog, however limited the latter two's screen time may be. Keith Silverstein is appropriately sinister and "Eeeeeeevil!" as Wolfram, one of the franchise's deadliest villains who isn't above killing a high school kid, and the dub script is completely natural. All in all, Two Heroes is a frickin' blast, and it comes heartily recommended to both the My Hero Academia fan and any newcomers looking to give Horikoshi's rising franchise a shot.

The Third Murder (2017) - 5.8/10. Normally I wouldn't complain about a movie being slow. All movies set their own pace. But with this I really felt it. An hour into the movie felt like 2.5 hours. The director tried to tackle a lot of issues with the movie, especially the death penalty, but most of it didn't land. A decent watch, but nothing great. The acting and everything were fine. Just the story was a bit loose.

The Platform 2019
A vertical prison with one cell per level. Two people per cell. One food platform and two minutes per day to feed from up to down. An endless nightmare trapped in The Pit.
A good idea let down by unnreal human dialogue and behavour, film makers have a real low opinion of humanity.. of course its very metaphorical but that is wrung out for an hour and a half to a rushed and confused ending... I really think this is one film that could benefit from an American remake,

Top performances and a real grit to this outing by Sherlock (the peerless Basil Rathbone). The shooting is understandably quite stop/start but the tempo and atmosphere are spot on.

Apocalypse domani (1980)
aka Cannibal Apocalypse, Cannibals in the Streets, etc.
Only in Italy could someone think that combining zombie and cannibal films was a good and innovative idea (isn't it like comparing apples and, eh, apples). It basically gives us all zombie film cliches but no zombies. Unfortunately, the cannibals act so erratically that the story doesn't work at all. How the hell is this 5.7 in IMDb?

Under the Shadows (2016) - 6.5/10. Quite liked it. The movie starts off as a normal movie. But grows creepy soon after. In hindsight, it was not that scary. But for a scaredy-cat like me, it was enough. Definitely worth a watch, when compared to the mindless drivel Hollywood churns out every year.

The Wailing (2016) - 7.5/10. A masterful creation. Easily the best in the horror category for me for the decade. Not sure if anything good will come out in 2020 to beat it. Tried to watch it at for two consecutive nights, but couldn't. Made it to 20 mins on Day 1 and around 35 on Day 2. So finished it in the afternoon. The spooky atmosphere, the cinematography, the grizzly killings, all were melded in a sweet bucket of ice cream. Leaves Hereditary faaaaar behind.

Watched the documentary Hoaxed (2019) last night. It's a well done expose of "fake news": where it got started, how it's used, who are its biggest practitioners, and how much damage and misery it has caused. The 2 hour presentation is chock full of examples and commentary from prominent people on the right and the left. At the end it offers solutions for this ubiquitous misinformation epidemic.
Amazon offered it for awhile but has now taken it down, despite it's tremendous gain in popularity, possibly when Jeff Bezos' directors realized that it reflected badly on big media, such as his Washington Post. It's available on YouTube and other sites, I think for a fee.

The Driver's Seat - 5/10
Elizabeth Taylor's scenes are always interesting. But its not a good movie. I think they tried to lure the audiences in by showing her breasts early in the movie - which were nice. I also think she hit her sexy peak in the early 70s. Only wish she had longer hair.
