I re-watched Donnie Darko, a long-time favorite of mine that I hadn't seen in a few years. The first time I really enjoyed it, the second time, I absolutely fell in love it, whereas, this time is closer to the first. I believe the film is very creative and has an intricately woven narrative, and I love it for those reasons, at the same time, after watching it for a third time, I can really see how the acting and delivery was off with a lot of the characters, even Jake Gyllenhaal, who's in the title role, has a couple of moments where I found his delivery at times a little off-putting. Am I the only one who thinks this? Still, there's something so surreal and unique about the film, and there isn't very many other films I feel this way about. I still think it's a great science-fiction film and that it's among my favorites.

I watched this movie because it's on Ebert's great movies list. I had heard of star W.C. Fields, but I knew nothing about him. I think he's absolutely hysterical. He must have influenced The Three Stooges, and Shemp Howard is in this movie playing a bartender. If you like that kind of humor then I'd definitely recommend this movie. I was surprised how much it pushed boundaries for a movie so old, and I laughed all the way through.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
Not as good as the kids thought it would be, not as bad as I thought it would be. The cast of the original three movies are sadly missed in a road trip from hell that is basically a gross-out movie for kids. It gets a little far-fetched in its slapstick, when its the more plausible everyday humorous situations that are the strength of the franchise.

Thanks @mark f (http://www.movieforums.com/community/member.php?u=30418) - you know exactly what movies I'd love... I think the lowest rated movie you recommended to me was an 8/10... "Lies My Father Told Me" is another great one you recommended, and the entire thing is on YouTube.
I only wish it was a little longer, more conversations between them, but it's a great movie... Directed by William Wyler, though I would have thought Michael Powell...Surprised I never knew of this movie.

EDIT: "The original cut of The Collector ran for three hours.[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Collector_%281965_film%29#cite_note-4) Because of pressure from his producers, Wyler was forced to cut the film heavily. This resulted in the complete removal of 35 minutes of prologue material starring Kenneth More (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_More). Wyler said, "Some of the finest footage I ever shot wound up on the cutting room floor, including Kenneth's part."

I saw something recently with Al Pacino where he was supposed to have complimented the film. I mean I don't think of him even being aware of such things :p and neither he nor Robert De Niro have ever really ventured into the fantasy and science-fiction area – which is a shame. I liked it that Al was taking an interest though because it's my genre.

Yeah out of curiosity I must ask my oncologist next time I see him. I only just thought during this conversation about when the change seemed to happen. Chemo does lots of weird and wonderful things to different people so this is just my hunch. Really brightly coloured food can also make me feel off just by looking at it.

French film from the top 100 noirs list, although to me it wasn't a noir. It is from the director who made the more famous The Wages of Fear and Les Diaboliques, and I ended up liking this one more than either of those. The first 20 minutes show no clue to any type of crime film. A man is jealous because of the male attention his wife is getting as she tries to further her career in theater. I would have been happy with nothing much more happening than that as I was really enjoying it. A murder happens, and then we get a strong police procedural with a few twists. I thought it was a very good movie.

The Babadook (2014)
This is a first-rate horror movie but maybe not in the way that most people might expect. First let me state right up front that actress Essie Davis is freaking phenomenal in this movie. I've rarely seen such realistic acting from someone who gives it all she's got from start-to-finish. If I'd seen this when it was first released, I'd have assumed she'd at least be nominated for an Oscar. Too bad she wasn't. But she won quite a few awards around the globe for her performance. Bravo.
Davis plays Amelia, who has lost her husband in a car wreck on the way to the hospital to give birth to her son, Samuel. Several years later we see him played as a young boy by Noah Wiseman. Samuel is afraid of monsters so it's up to Amelia to soothe him at night by checking the closet and under the bed for beasts, then reading him a nice bedtime story, or at least one where the monster gets his in the end. One night he picks a book she's seemingly never seen called "Mr. Babadook," which starts out all right but in the end seems to imply that the Babadook is coming to get Samuel and his mom. He freaks out, naturally. She puts the book out of reach but notices it keeps showing back up. The book seems to change its writing into threats toward mother and son. Samuel is a disturbed young child and he throws fits and tantrums. He is at first a very hard character to like. I wanted him to just walk off the screen and go visit a distant relative. But such is the genius of writer and director Jennifer Kent in making you loathe this little boy. At first. There will come a switch. But before that, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is coming for them and drives his mother to distraction. The movie subtly moves from the mother being irritated to the extreme by Samuel to her believing that the Babadook is real.
Another smart move of this movie is making us wonder if the title character is real. She sees it at one point and the book and her son tell her that the Babadook is in her and one scene hints strongly at this. But for me, this movie portrayed a person (Amelia) slowly descending from depression into mental illness. The movie slowly turns the screws from her son being annoying to me fearing for his safety from the mother. I've seen mental illness close-up from someone I loved (they have since passed away) and Essie Davis must have studied mental illness very closely to prepare for her role because she does things that are completely realistic and reminded me of my own encounter with this horrible illness. Because she was so good, I'm convinced that this is really what the movie was portraying. Yet, the director still plants some doubts in your head.
There are moments where the boy sees things he shouldn't be seeing in reality and we see things that both mother and son see that shouldn't be real. Are they? Depite what I said above in the spoilers, you are never spoonfed exactly what is real but you get a pretty good idea. Some have complained about the ending not being exactly clear but I thought it was. For me, it was psychological terror at its best, with the mother eventually using the "monster" as a coping mechanism to try to control her own fragile mental state.
Not a pleasant movie at all, but one I'm so glad I watched. It was expertly made and surely will be considered a classic movie in the years to come.

If there is one word out there that could perfectly describe this film, it would be predictable, I mean there is a definite problem when you are able to literally and correctly guess how the last shot of the film will pan out, an hour before it happens.
On the other hand, Mickey Rourke was really good as the wrestler, without him, the movie would easily crumble into pieces. The cinematography as well was pretty good, but other than that, there isn't much to write home about in here.
One more thing, the daughter of Mickey Rourke's character was just like her performance, AWFUL! I couldn't stand her whatsoever, not even for a second, and I'm not even sure if Darren Aronofsky is aware of how much of a self absorbed brat she came off as, she was without a doubt the worst thing about the film, everytime she came on screen all I wanted to do is punch her in her damn face, but only assuming she has a sex change operation in the time it takes for my fist to connect, because making jokes that include violence against women is wrong :bashful:
Anyway, I'm in a weird spot with Aronofsky right now, it seems like the only kind of movies he can produce are either 10/10's or 6/10's, so it will be quite intresting to see where Mother! will fit in his filmography.

I loved this movie. Knew nothing about it except it was horror genre and ended up watching it 4 times back to back.
Yes your thought on what it is about is correct and Jennifer Kent confirmed it, but it can be viewed however the audience sees fit.
As for Samuel, my husband didnt like him but I loved him. Phenomenal little actor. The scene with the
catapult cracked me up. Such an aussie thing to do to use a cricket ball in a movie to whack your mum in the head. And I am yet to forgive that bitch for killing the dog. I just cant help it. That scene made me scream a very bad word or two.
Great review, dad.

Dani, thanks for your kind words. And yes, the dog scene I hated. I didn't blame her, but I blame the writer/director for putting that in the screenplay. I'm usually very cautious watching movies that feature dogs prominently because I just know they're going to die. I know another person close to me whose mentally ill mother killed the family dog right in front of her daughter and the daughter (now a grown woman) still has horrible memories of that event. So, I could relate to this movie on so many levels. But, back to the dogs dying in movies, I'm always cautious and when I saw the poster years ago for I Am Legend with Will Smith, his German Shepherd was pictured right beside him on the poster and I thought, "That dog is going to die!" And sure enough. I usually avoid these I have those those suspicions about but it had zombie/vampires in it and I couldn't resist but I still got pissed off when the scene in question happened.
Anyway, I've gone overboard with the spoilers here. :) So, how you doing? :p

It's a common horror trope. I dont blame Jen for putting it in. My bro is good friends with her and he said she's really lovely. She also formed a very strong bond with Noah (little boy), as did Essie. Those horrible scenes between the two of them were never shot with them together so what we're seeing is not what Noah was seeing. As for that other scene, my horror fiend niece watched that with her dad (different brother). He reacted the same way I did.
Good good. Beautiful chilly monday morning here. I hope you're enjoying your weekend. Great movie to watch on a weekend, and the colour palette of that was absolutely stunning (I whine too much about colour palettes so I'm going to talk more about the colour editing I like in future).
I recommend that if/when you have a rewatch, go in holding on to what you know of the relationship between the two and see if that gives you a different outlook about him. Interesting exercise to see if you change your mind or not. Just for fun.

Oh, I'm sure he's a lovely kid. Like I said, I was of the opinion that the director purposely wanted us to despise him, if even a little bit, so we would reexamine our opinion later when certain things happen.
Yeah, I realize that's it's a common horror trope concerning what we were talking about, but I've seen it in dramas and family movies, and for the crappy reason to only manipulate you into tears. That's why I haven't seen Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009), Marley & Me (2008), or A Dog's Purpose (2017) because I asked close friends who had seen them and they affirmed my suspicions. And I accidentally saw the tail end of My Dog Skip (2000) and was absolutely gutted by what I saw. Aggh! Even the memory slays me. Now I can deal with movies like Old Yeller (1957) because he dies honorably after saving the lives of his human family (although he gets sick from the horrible rabies)---I mean honorably in that he saved his family and his own master puts him down to again save his family. Because his little brat brother almost lets the now-vicious Yeller out, so Travis has to do it. Still, as a rule, I can't stand dogs dying in movies because I've had more dogs die in my lifetime than family (and I'm not saying dogs are better than humans...although some are). ;)
I'd better get off this subject or we're going to have to open a pet clinic thread. :)

Metropolis (1927, Fritz Lang)
4.5
Every time I watch a film like this, I try to put myself in the shoes of someone watching it for the first time - all those years ago, with the bulk of cinema history still unwritten. But that doesn't always help, and, no matter how hard I try, I often end up being thoroughly disappointed.
So if I told you I was blown away by the entire 150+ minutes of this sprawling proto-sci-fi classic, that, of course, would be a lie. There were some naive moments (the ending, for example), and the expressionistic style of acting takes a bit of getting used to, although I've found it does add (in an effective way) a degree of unintentional creepiness to certain scenes (this also caught my attention in Murnau's Nosferatu). But the ambitious scope of the film, its riveting visual style and the power and prescience of its message more than make up for the technical limitations of the era. State-of-the-art special-effects/CGI trickery won't help you create scenes as genuinely thrilling and eery as, for example, the iconic dance sequence, or the catacomb chase scene - unless you've got that certain something (a vision, maybe?). Whatever it is, Fritz Lang had it in spades.

Holy hell that was AMAZING! What took me so long. Incredible acting, fantastic retro look without being OTT. My only complaint - not enough Dennis O'Hare. Freaking fantastic, and in the greater scheme of things, not actually that long ago yet there is still no marriage equality.
Woah I heart this movie. Sean Penn blew my socks off.

Now THAT is acting. Well deserved awards. I was utterly convinced by his character, and of Denis as the bigot politician. Emile Hirsch was outstanding, and I even loved James Franco which surprised me. I'm going to give him a second chance. And why have I never heard of Diego Luna before.
I had to laugh initially at Denis portraying an anti gay bigot. Bravo, Mr O'Hare!

East Side Sushi (Anthony Lucero, 2014)
A culture clash involving a Mexican-American single mom who must overcome equality from both a racial and gender viewpoint when she takes a job as an assistant at a Japanese restaurant. This is a very heartwarming film about one woman's determination to find herself after struggling to make ends meet for both her father and young daughter. The head sushi chef starts out as a mentor to the young woman only for the bond to grow to a very enduring friendship. Great performances from lead Diana Elizabeth Torres and co-star Yutaka Takeuchi as her mentor/friend make this a beautiful culinary delight of a film with a lesson in equality as a whole.
Final Rating: A

First let me state right up front that actress Essie Davis is freaking phenomenal in this movie. I've rarely seen such realistic acting from someone who gives it all she's got from start-to-finish. If I'd seen this when it was first released, I'd have assumed she'd at least be nominated for an Oscar. Too bad she wasn't. But she won quite a few awards around the globe for her performance. Bravo.
Yeah, that's my kind of Oscar winner.
She scared the hell out of me. There's that one, I think cutaway, shot of her that's so hideous it's like behind-the-sofa time :).
Reading your thoughts there reminded me of the Doctor Who episode Fear Her, which isn't very popular but I like it. The slight similarity to The Babadook hadn't occurred to me before, but also if anyone hasn't seen it, think of that moment with the old woman in the painting in Roald Dahl's The Witches and you'll get the general idea.
Yeah, that's my kind of Oscar winner.

where she's behind a window I think, looking out. She has this really menacing kind of grimace. Incredible to be able to project that feeling like she did.

Yeah, me too –
because it's so primal. As you know I saw Oculus recently and I appreciated the similar things Katee Sackhoff did but was always thinking about Essie Davis, who was so off-the-scale terrifying in this film.

Did you see the original? Also I am not sure about the Die Hard comparison, I get that it is one man against set enemies in a enclosed location but I still think it is different. Karl Urban I think did a great job and I like to revisit this every 6 months or so as I think it is another take on the action genre.

Yeah I didn't see it as anything new or different, it actually felt like an 80's science fiction/action film.
And it's a different variation on the Die Hard theme not to say it's a rip off but after Die Hard came out it was Die Hard on a Boat (Under Siege), Die Hard on a mountain (Cliff Hanger), Die Hard in a prison (The Rock), Die Hard on a prison plane (Con Air),Die Hard on a plane (Executive Decision), Die Hard on a plane with a black guy (Passenger 57), Die Hard on President Plane's (Air Force One), Die Hard at the Presidents home (White House Down).
I can understand if you didn't grow up in the 90's this being something refreshing but for people of my generation this was Sunday afternoon matinee type stuff. At no point during the movie was I wowed.

I think it's better to call the 1995 Judge Dredd the first attempted adaptation, rather than "the original". The 2012 Dredd is a new take on the source material, and is not a remake or related to the Stallone flick.
Yeah I didn't see it as anything new or different, it actually felt like an 80's science fiction/action film.
It might remind you of older action films because the source material predates them. It's an adaptation from the 2000 AD comics, which have been in publication since the mid-late 70s.

A Ghost Story (2017)
I don't have the time nor the mental capacity today to write a review, as much as I would love to. This will surely be one of the most divisive films of 2017 and after seeing it, A Ghost Story is usually a film that I wouldn't like but I loved it. I walked out thinking, 'yeah it was good but nothing special' and as time has went on and the more I've thought about it (which is what I've done for the last few days) I now consider it one of the best films that I've seen for a while. I got so much out of it. There are funny moments, scenes that will make you jump, scenes of grief, hope, despair, everything. Of course, your perception of a film will depend on your mood etc, recently my close friend passed away, so I will admit that due to that, I felt like I could really connect to the film and probably rated it higher than I would otherwise.
Anyway, go watch it and see for yourself. The less known the better.

So after initially watching "Elena" a couple of months ago, I've always planned on revisiting it again, the exceptional cinematography alone should be a reason to return to the film multiple times, trust me, it is so pleasing to the eye. Director Andrey Zvyagintsev who's notably known for his debut feature film "The Return", proves once again how much of an expert at his craft he is, in fact, I find "Elena" to be his visual masterpiece, and how can I not when every single scene feels meticulously calculated. The lingering shots of quietude have an increased level of substance once there is not only purpose behind them but also beauty. If you haven't guessed already, I was pretty blown away by how phenomenal the film looked!
As for the story, I wouldn't necessarily call it complicated, on the contrary, it is very simple and easy to follow, but there is definite depth and layers under its surface. Elena lives in a luxurious apartment with her luxuriant spouse Vladimir, they lead routine urban bourgeois lives, which is the complete opposite of the life lived by Elena's son and his struggling family. Our main character is found caught in the middle of two worlds, classes and men, and she fights to balance the two opposing and incompatible branches of her life.
It seems like the vast majority of Russian films, from what I've seen at least, love to depict this inescapable contrast between the divided classes of Russia's modern society, and this theme also appears in Zvyagintsev's 2014 film "Leviathan". The director showcases this subject in a blunt, truthful and almost objective manner that refrains from sugar coating the reality, every character that appears on screen including the one we follow is heavily flawed, and they all contribute to a never ending cycle of corruption. On the other hand, we have Elena's innocent and oblivious newborn grandson, who is unaware of the ugliness committed around him, he may be an indication of possible hope for the next generation, or just another apple that will most likely not fall far from the tree, and grow to be a typical member who'll learn nothing but contribution to the depravity.
"Elena", is certainly a character study, not necessarily of the main character, but more so of society and how low it is willing to go and act, just for its own selfish benefits, this is all perfectly put together and portrayed with a fantastic accompanying score by Philip Glass, the music is scattered sparingly while also hitting the perfect amount. My issues with the film are just three minor nitpicks that would seem unfair if mentioned. This happens to be my favourite entry by Zvyagintsev, who is not only currently one of my favourite modern directors, but also seems to be a promising master who's name will be stamped on cinema's history.

Three married women from an average city set out on a day trip with some underprivileged children. As they're boarding the boat, a courier brings them a letter from a 4th friend. The letter says that she is leaving town with one of their husbands, but she doesn't say which one. I thought this was a brilliant set-up that brought mystery and a cliffhanger without the usual crime. With the three woman away from home for the day, they each look back at their marriage and the issues that it has, and they wonder if it's them that will be without a husband when they get home. This is a great cautionary tale for women; treat your men right! This is from the same director as All About Eve, and I liked this just as much. I don't quite feel an intense passion for the movie after my first viewing, but it was outstanding and I think it would grow if I watched it again.

Overall, a fun flick, no regrets.
Missing in action are Jerry Goldsmith and/or James Horner. I wasn't impressed at all with Prometheus so I can only imagine this continuation is also less than impressive. I believe your review.

Anyways,I did actually know the twist beforehand. But the movie was really good still. That's how you do twists right. You mustn't rely on it. It's a bonus, that extra edge, not your entire fundament...

TokeZa, as soon as I saw that pic from Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees, I instantly knew that was Tomisaburô Wakayama carrying the woman on his back. Upon many an occasion he'd carried his son on his back in the Lone Wolf and Cub series of movies, which are some of my favorite flicks. Strangely enough, even though I loved him in those movies, I never followed his career in anything else. So I went to the IMDB and was surprised that he was in Black Rain (1989), the Michael Douglas movie, which I loved. I may have to revisit that movie soon to catch him in it, but thanks for posting that picture from the movie you reviewed so I would know he's in it.

I watched this rom-com because it's on the top 100 laughs list. There is a lot of talent involved with Howard Hawks as director, Billy Wilder as one of the screenwriters, and stars Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Dana Andrews, and Dan Duryea. I liked the story, and even though it's not my kind of movie. I enjoyed it. I think it's probably better than I could give it credit for, and I'd recommend it to fans of the old rom-coms in the vein of His Girl Friday and Bringing Up Baby.

So I went to a later showing thinking I'd get some peace and quiet, but I forgot that the kids still have a couple weeks before school resumes. So I was treated to a theater full of gasping teenagers who physically assault the seats when frightened (the girl behind me kicked my chair in fright about a dozen times), and two stupid couples who decided to bring small children into a horror movie. Imagine my surprise when little Tommy starts sobbing at the top of his lungs because damn is that doll spooky. This really hindered my enjoyment of the film, but at the very least I can say it's a better film than it's sequel and it actually does a decent job at filling in the gaps from the first film. Barring what I felt were a few unnecessary characters, some cheesy dialogue and flimsy acting, this is better than most of the other big budget horror titles I've seen lately. But the Conjuring films are entirely better than the Annabelle films.

The Emperor's Club
Kevin Kline stars as Arthur Hundert, a dedicated and inspiring classics professor who has devoted his life to teaching at a prep school for boys. New student Sedgewick Bell, the headstrong son of a powerful senator, joins his class and inexorably alters Mr. Hundert's life. It is a clash of wills and personalities as these two people seemingly battle for the hearts and souls of the other students at St. Benedictus
Among the students are a young Jesse Eisenberg and Paul Dano who we also see 25 years later played by different actors, they should of had the young Jesse Eisenberg play himself 25 years later as he would have nailed it

Eagle Eye
(D. J. Caruso)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/15/Eagle_eye_poster.jpg/220px-Eagle_eye_poster.jpg
2
Eagle Eye is the second outing for D.J. Caruso and Shia LaBeouf. Their first collaboration was the modernized version of Rear Window, the boringly average Disturbia. This time around they both are playing on a bigger scale. More action, more special effects, more of the same stuff we've seen before. Eagle Eye is a run of the mill action thriller flick that tries to be bigger than it actually is. The way the film plays out, I expected some big conspiracy theory, and was let down by the route they decided to go.
LaBeouf has done some interesting work recently. He has finally decided to act it seems. Look at his prior work though; a troubled young teen or adult that screams at people while he runs around. Crystal Skull, Transformers 1 and 2 and now Eagle Eye. I don't see a difference between any of these characters, but maybe the script never calls for one. Thankfully he's gone off the deep end and in return we are getting some (at the very least) interesting performances.
Monaghan plays the female lead and is lured in by the classic "do this or the kid dies" mumbo-jumbo. Until the end reveals that it's all a part of this elaborate plan to do something pretty simple. This leads into a problem I have with this film. Everything is so elaborate to the point that things just don't make sense.
Some scenes were really ridiculous, such as the electrical wires killing the one guy in the Se7en location rip-off and the way the voice helps them get away every single time. The chase scenes are thrilling, to a point, then it becomes tedious. Billy Bob Thorton's appearance is random, doesn't seem natural and his character transition doesn't seem real. Rosario Dawson plays the role of the one cop who suspects something is up. Again nothing new or memorable. She serves the role about as much as she needs or wants to.
Caruso does have an eye for some suspense, this film might be able to entertain someone on a basic level. Yet as a whole the film fails to deliver on the grand spectacle that it wants to. It seems to be about bigger things than it actually is, which makes it pretty empty inside. I could care less about the people involved or the events that take place.

I'd been itching to revisit this one. I'm still finding things I love about it. Something that stuck out this time was Prideoux and Haydon's relationship. Strong emits such deep melancholy while Firth is equally amiable though distant throughout. Their glance at one another near the end (no, not that bit, the flashback prior) really sunk on me. Seems a shame they're usually cast in opposite roles than those here.

I've never heard of this, but I used to read the "Archie" comics when I was younger, and I liked Christopher Rich on "Murphy Brown" and "Reba", so I added this to my watchlist.

I just saw this on IMAX, and I wanted to like it so much, but I just couldn't...
Checking on the reviews here and there, people seem to LOVE it.
I ended up giving it a rating_3, and I knew I was being generous even.
Reasons I didn't like it:
1) It's not funny when Marvel tries to be funny in every 2 minutes.
2) Villain starts strong, but falls easy at the end. This is in every Marvel movies pretty much.
3) Some action scenes are done very lazy. This is also in every Marvel movies pretty much.
4) Spidey's movement is too CGI, doesn't have any gravity feel
5) Other than Spidey and villain, I didn't like or care about any other characters
6) Spidey seems incompetent in this movie without Iron Man's suit and help. Also his motive is to be cool or to impress others, which seems lame and selfish.

If there ever was a film that was specifically designed to be a rip-off, this is it. Coming out the same year as the American remake of The Ring, fear dot com treads familiar water. This time, instead of an unmarked videotape, we have a website. Scary???? Four bodies are found in New York City. They are eerily connected, as they all died 48 hours after logging onto the website, FEARDOTCOM.COM Yup...it's feardotcom.COM
After seeing the opening sequence, I was expecting the film to be mediocre at best. I was wrong. This film is atrocious. It borrows heavily from the previously mentioned film, let's take a look shall we?
Both films showcase people dying after witnessing video/website
Both films have the lead female character discovery a dead body in the water
That dead body belongs to a little girl that you see before you die.
After each person dies, they are stuck with a terrified look of horror on their face.
I could go on, but that would mean thinking about this film more often than one should.
I'm a fan of Stephen Dorff, but he's not good enough to elevate trash to garbage. Jeffery Combs is criminally underused here as well. The film has these genre actors, even Udo Kier pops up, but it does nothing with them. The direction of the film is directionless. It goes in circles not knowing where to stop, or even begin for that matter.
Let me list the things you can do instead of watching fear dot com:
Watch paint dry.
Take a nap.
Watch a second coat of paint dry.
Take a calculus exam.
Flip a coin and guess how it lands.
Sit an at airport for 6 hours.
Stay on hold for 4 hours.
Never be able to connect to your house wifi.
Be stuck in traffic.
Listen to a Kardashian talk about evolution.
Do your tax returns.
Take heath advice from Gwyneth Paltrow
In summary...this movie stinks.

In a small racist town a black man is falsely accused of killing a white man. Fortunately, he has a boy, an old woman, and a lawyer to fight for him. It's a very solid film about racial injustice, even if I don't think it is especially memorable.

This is a great film which is not only at the zenith of the screwball comedy style, but one that far exceeds those boundries.
Howard Hawks direction is superb, but it is the dazzling acting and chemistry between Grant and Russell that dominate the picture. It would be difficult to imagine an actress and actor --past or present-- who could have succeeded in bringing these characters home with such an array of technique and pacing. I've often wondered how many takes that some of those lightning dialogue scenes must have required, along with how much rehearsal.
It's a breathtaking production, which will bring continual smiles to all but the stone-faced..;)

The plot is mediocre, and the script is average, but my God does this movie have superb action.
Multiple times I found my jaw on the ground after watching a scene. Some sequences are so awesome that you'll find yourself asking yourself, "Did that just really happen? That was amazing!"
For this reason I am glad I did not see it in a theater, I wouldn't be able to rewind and rewatch scenes.

I have fond memories of watching that show after school, and I had a massive crush on Kelly Kapowski. When I got older and saw Showgirls I just remember thinking how upset Jessie would have been at herself.
Right, lol.. First the caffeine pills, now this... I watched that show every single school day after school, even the old "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" episodes, The College Years, the beach episodes, wedding....
I think I heard about a possible re-union... Kelly and Jessie were pretty good looking, I should take a look at them now after all these years.

Divergent (2014)
This Sci-fi action movie was entertaining with more meaningful content than your average blockbuster. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it was a terrible movie. It had Lousy acting, an implausible plot, overabundance of deus ex machinis, a sappy childish fantasy notion of how the world is and how things happen, and the worst martial arts fighting stance I have ever seen in my life. I could bash it more, it was such an awful film, but I actually enjoyed it a lot. It was very entertaining.

The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) - rating_3
The great chemistry and amusing banter between the two leads more than makes up for an otherwise bland action comedy film, as long as you don't mind the over-used tropes.
The film is a bit longer than it needs to be, and is completely predictable, however it's still quite entertaining and I would definitely watch it again. I love buddy cop flicks, and while neither Samuel L. Jackson nor Ryan Reynolds play a police officer, the comparison to films like Lethal Weapon is hard not to make. It worked for me thanks to the charisma of those two actors, and my willingness to go along with the film's sometimes insane scenarios, but if you're extremely tired of typical action clichés, you might want to skip this one.
Oh I forgot Hitmans Bodyguard was opening over your way on 17. Not here until 31. Nooooo, I wont be skipping it, you Mofo!!! I love Samuel and cant wait to see Salma as his hot wife.
The Witch. I found it very bleak, total slow burn, and couldnt understand the father so left it probably when it was just getting going. Will finish it some other time. Good creepy atmosphere enhanced by the score, though.

Why this movie is at 18% on Rotten Tomatoes I will never know. Then again high RT scores and good movies are not one and the same.
F**k the critics I like this movie. Is it on par with say First Blood? No. But who cares? It is Stallone in aviators with a 1911 and a Jatimatic wasting blatantly evil Hollywood action movie meat fodder. Not the richest on story or plot, and full of already done action movie tropes, but heavy on the action and one of my favorite action movie one liners.
"You're a disease. And I'm the cure."
Criminally underrated action flick.

A deeply humanistic, albeit a bit romanticized, reflection on the current migrant crisis in Europe. Kaurismäki has a very distinct style and his characters are fine caricatures of humans which underlines the trajectory of the story. A very pleasant watch.
