Since I rate few movies at the extreme high or low ends of my scale, I'm not as concerned with differentiating all those ratings, but in the middle ground, I think it's more helpful - at least to those who get something out of my ratings. Since I had my stroke, it's difficult for me to type longer posts.
Gotcha, well explained.
I think when I've been reading through your review posts, I've been focusing on the /10 scoring, since it's a number that I personally understand best.
"Hope you feel better" is far too trite and illfitting for a stroke. So I think the best I can manage is "I wish you well". I've known people in stroke situations (no strokes are equal), and wow, +1 on the effort to post as you do.

I watched Jojo Rabbit and Frozen II this morning (I work grave-yard shift, my life's a mess). I liked them both, but Jojo Rabbit definitely won out overall.
Frozen is what I call a perfect example of style over substance - which isn't necessarily a criticism. The narrative is thin, but the breathtaking animation and imagery brought it to a grandiose caliber. I liked it more than the first, personally.
Jojo Rabbit, on the other-hand, I enjoyed a fair amount. The film is funny and heartwarming, and I was impressed a lot by it.

Parasite (2019, Bong Joon Ho)
4.5
As I was watching Parasite, it spoke to me not only as a stark reminder of the world of extreme wealth and social inequality that we live in today, but also as a chilling warning of what happens once the veneer of normalcy has fallen off, and radical ideas and actions take over. Bong Joon Ho does a fine job portraying the upper class with its out-of-touch naivete and ill-disguised contempt for the poor contrasted against the sheer stench and desperation bubbling underneath the facade, juxtaposing the two worlds and setting them on a collision course - deadly, as we later find out. One of the main protagonists, the boy, keeps repeating the word "metaphorical", and that's exactly what this film is - a metaphorical microcosm of the highly stratified, polarized global system, the horrors and anguishes of which are often underreported and obfuscated by the media but they're there anyway, a ticking bomb that's bound to go off at some point.
From the cinematic standpoint, I have little to quibble about, even though I can't say it was a perfect film by any stretch. But it was quite a ride - riveting, grotesque, shocking at times, but also really funny and moving without getting overly melodramatic. Its biggest success to me was how it managed a balancing act between its many alternating moods, between being so profoundly serious and thought-provoking on one hand and so fun and accessible on the other. A film of contrasts in many ways.

https://www.usmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Hustlers-Movie-Review-01.jpg
My wife picked this out but I did have interest in the story. Several years ago when I lost a fortune gambling, I obviously needed a way to get out of it. I'll just say that I worked with many girls in the adult industry, so I know quite a bit about these types of characters and the various hustles that go on. I know it's a true story but this movie dropped the ball. The girls don't talk that way, they don't act that way, and it was just all wrong the way it was presented. There were a couple of good moments in the latter stages of the movie but that's it. I was very agitated for most of the runtime because of the wasted opportunity. As far as all of the praise that J Lo got, I didn't see it. She was ok at best. I know there are a lot of people that like it but it wasn't a serious movie.

Oh, that's a little confusing. I was wondering why you rate movies so low. I thought you just didn't like them very much and watched a lot of boring and mediocre movies. But okay, so a 2 star is an average okay movie, and 2.5 means you actually liked it.
I find I usually give out a lot of 4/5 's and 4.5/5's because I'm pretty good at finding awesome artistic films that I love. I rarely watch movies that I end up only finding okay or mediocre.

Just saw Hostiles a fairly new 'hardcore' Western that I don't think a lot of mofos have seen. It has beautiful cinematography, great action sequences and also some flaws for me. But still definitely one to watch before sending in your Western ballot.

Shocking documentary about the beginnings of the Syrian war. Giving faces to the deaths, attributing-pointing to the villains, part of the reason I believe this movie will be well received in our part of the world, the villains suits our agenda. A handful of visceral footage's, the pregnant lady was the one that got my attention, strangely for many, but I fond it a beautiful scene in a way, almost poetic for the point of the documentary. I did not wonder how could humans beings do this to other human beings, that I don't wonder anymore, I accept it and count on it, I was just wondering if those were different kind of human beings, they have an incredible resistance to enormous losses, it reminded me of Marlon Brando's monologue in Apocalipse Now. It's shocking, it's cruel, it's also beautiful, human beings are really incredible creatures, there is nothing we can't adapt to, overcome.

Fury (2014) - 9.5/10
Phenomenal, and you see and feel the anguish of a young recruit, placed out of his element and growing his way into a field of terror. A "reluctant student"/"angry mentor" theme that has been done before, but not often quite this smoothly.
There is a scene where Norman is trying to get to the body of a young German girl that became a love-interest and one of the tank crew forces him away from it unnecessarily. I felt his frustration so solidly I actually became furious.

Magnificent Ambersons (1942) 6/10 While this movie is highly rated by many people, I have a difficult time rating a movie highly when the protagonist of the movie, George, is a despicable character. The acting is fine, cinematography excellent, story great. The tragedy is that the main character is poison to all others of this world; instead of harnessing his privileged upbringing to make a better man of himself, he rides his arrogance all the way to ruin. I gave this character 87 more minutes of my life than I would grant a real live person of the same fabric.

In the woods, a family of five, a certain virus is going on, transmitted by touch or air, if someone gets sick the others have to take there life to secure everyone else's survival, doesn't matter who he is. Outside is not safe. Whats outside? You don't know, it doesn't have a particular face, humans will kill you intentionally or not, you just know it's not safe. You close the house entirely, one door in and out. Someone asks for help, now what? The dilema kicks in. Solidarity, morals, trust in a messy situation needing to not only survive but to take care of your loved ones. What about the loved ones of others?

Atmospheric "whodunnit" with the usual ropey production values of Italian Giallo. It is interesting though and George Lazenby does a good job as the Father on a search for some truth and inner peace. Effective in plotting and I enjoyed it.

Call Of The Wild
https://youtu.be/h1LG9So2ZBk
Ofcourse On youtube so many people post there opinions on films before they see them and it gets quite tiresome how they seem to rate movies before watch them.
People that review films seem to go not for the fun of going to see a movie but to find reasons to support there negative opinions they had beforehand.
Sorry about my slight rant on state of how some reviewers do movies these days.
I Went into the film knowing the lead animal would be cgi. And people forget animal protections makes it hard to do a movie around animals where looks like they get hurt.
CGI dog or animals means no animals were hurt. Which i think is a good idea. By the end of the movie i didnt care the Dog was CGI. The movie
The actors did well in the movie and you felt the journey for the dog and his adventures in Alaska. Im pretty sure most of the sled dogs were real dogs btw. Allot of people were crying at the movies end so hope that helps anyone who wondered if CGI animals could move people.
But people cry in animated features all the time. So not sure why people cant if effects worked in the movie.
The story is little different from how i remember it but I always get Call of the Wild and White Fang mixed up in my mind . Read Both Books. Might need read the book again.
Anyways I give this movie overall 8/10.

They include an aspiring dancer, a piano player, and the choreographer of the show, who inevitably form a love triangle of sorts but altogether, a pretty good dance film with sporadic musical numbers and a feel-good final act.

Carol of the Bells (Joey Travolta, 2020)
This movie made me shed both happy and sad tears. Members of the cast and crew have developmental disabilities and this is a very heartwarming and tearjerking tale of a man who finds his biological mother after so many years but is scared when he learns she has Down's Syndrome. His wife decides to do something about it and will go to great lengths tto bring mother and son together in time for the holidays.

Supposed to be an erotic mystery drama of some sorts. The acting is overwrought and self-important (including, sadly, Ruffalo, but Ryan really takes the biscuit here). The direction is indulgent but so self-appraising that it leaves no space for the story to breathe or develop beyond caricature.
Can remember Meg Ryan at the time parroting repeatedly in interview that Jane Campion was the director as though that was somehow a seal of quality. Patchy and deeply average at best.

City Lights (1931) Delightful movie, especially Chaplin's boxing sequence. His physical ability is remarkable and incredibly smooth. A good example is in the living room scene where Chaplin attempts to mount the piano bench and winds up in the stuffed chair. I wonder how many "takes" scenes like that took to get it right and resulting bruises...a masterpiece.

1917 (2019)
Ahh, it was OK I guess. A fun watch, but nothing I'd want to rewatch again. It was like a one trick show...We keep seeing the solider go from one level to the next level to the next level, all while trying not to get blown up. It was like a video game, exciting and fast past, but nothing of deep substances...We just watch our player trying to make it to the next level.
After while the only thing that was interesting to me was wondering what the film maker would come up with for the next scene. I never really bought into the story and so never believed in the film. I was always acutely aware of the movie making aspect of it. Especially the music score was way over done...and people say movies from the 1940s had overly exuberant movie scores.
Some of the adventure scenes were overcooked, especially the city at night looked mega fake. So did the raging river with steep rock wall banks, (I thought he was in France not in the Pyrenees).
I'm probably being too generous with my rating...

It’s an excellent unusual story written & directed by Day-Lewis’s wife (Arthur Miller’s daughter). Excellent cast & well-acted.

1917...Bummer man. I loved it.That's cool. I didn't hate it, but I wanted more humanistic story and less action. But action is real big today, so I'm not surprised the film went that way. But the illusion of the continuous take was a nice thing to see.
I won’t be seeing 1917 any time soon (too many other movies to see), but this would be the kiss of death for me.You might love it? Maybe not? Either way I'd be interested in seeing your thoughts whenever you do get around to watching it. I believe you said recently you didn't like Dunkirk? I didn't care for that movie myself. Yeah, I get stuck on "fake" looks a lot in movies, though I didn't see 1917 so I can't judge in this case. But I always harken back to the large number of times I've seen a city as the airplane I was on descended for a landing.
I've always remarked about how toy-like and uber-fake it looks. Part of it, no doubt, is the lack of visual parallax because of the distance....it tends to flatten things oddly. But I think most of it is because at a distance, all of the surfaces seem far "too clean". You can't see the imperfections that we're used to close up that lend to what we view as realism.
I've always loved that effect. It's like I'm looking at a bad photoshop of a city at night when we land.
I pointed out the effect to my kids once. They were all "whoa, weird!".

Lost & Found (2018) - 4.5
Pretty close to giving it the full five star treatment. It's a stop-motion animation that wouldn't feel too out of place under the Pixar banner. It's incredible that it wasn't even nominated for best animated short; I don't know if it wasn't properly entered to be eligible, but if it was, the Academy, as they are known to do, dropped the ball.
It's a film about sacrifice and love. It's heartbreaking and beautiful.

First Uncut Gems, not this. It is insulting, really, it's like someone said: there is nothing I hate more than cheap sentimentality. We're full of it. Buy this guy a tripod, I simply don't get all the spinning, gaudy colors, focus and blur for no particular reason, adding intensity with new crap music, it's awful. I didn't rate it lower because I kinda like how he managed the story and the acting was not bad.

I liked the story actually, it wasn't boring, the movie didn't seemed very long because I had the remote in my hand, also liked how they managed to show Ken Miles, anyway, it had one great actor and nothing else with him, the same old, same old. The racing looks like a video game, not to mention how unrealistic they've made it, breaking doing corners, doesn't work like that, up-shifting, downshifting, everything smells of Hollywood. Caricature of Italians, the bad guy, good guy, real Hollywood.

Star Wars the Force Awakens (2015) 3/5 Fun entertainment, impressive smorgasbord of visual effects, and fantastic cinematography.
Still, it seems to be a hyperbolic version of "A New Hope." Two items that made me wince: 1. Millennium Falcon is portrayed as a multipurpose tool of diverse capabilities - spaceship capable of hyper-light speed, bulldozer/snow blower, forestry log splitter (all without a scratch) 2. Rey 's no-notice command of the Force is miraculous. She makes Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker look like incredibly slow learners.
Maybe I misread, but my point is that I don't think it was an excellent movie.

I taped this off of Film 4 with only the idea that I had never heard of it and Robin Williams was in it. Interesting thriller with RW playing a radio DJ that strikes up a long distance relationship with a young lad who has had a terrible past (and present). The Gabriel character is going through some life changes too, so on the suspicions of his friends and family, starts to dig a bit deeper. Not all is as it seems. I found this an effective low-key thriller that wasn't showy at all and concentrated on character (particularly Gabriel).

Effective little early evening thriller/horror....great cast and the youths hook up quite well. Predictable in the big "tell" but around that a meaningful storyline. First McNaughton film I've seen since "Henry".

That's the America I know and the one no one cared about, then Trump came. Small town with one factory, harsh conditions, I know what's like working in steel. The pressure of a young girl to start a family before it's too late, the aging, forget the romance, one of the greatest dramatic scenes I've seen in a movie. The lack of opportunities, either factory or the army, fight in some war, come back, nothing is waiting, just the same old. The town disappearing, come back from prison and everything is changed, doors closed, people fleeing. The movie could fall into a genera with the revenge, I don't think it fallen, it completed the point, there's nothing for them there, nothing to lose. I liked Christian Bale very much, his a great actor, the character is prefect... introspective, very decent, it smells old American morals and codes and how circumstances just ended up breaking him.

Quite mediocre spaghetti western by Corbucci. It's quite beautifully shot but I didn't find the story (or characters) that interesting. The ending was kind of disappointing as well, especially after The Great Silence.

Return to Return to Nuke 'Em High Volume 2 (Lloyd Kaufman, 2017)
Just over three years after we were treated to the 21st Century reimagining of Class of Nuke 'Em High and a Kickstarter fund to complete post-production, Lloyd Kaufman finally unleashes the conclusion to the Return to Nuke 'Em High saga. If you don't know or don't watch Troma films, this one's not for you. But if you do, I think there should be a subgenre of exploitation films, which I like to call "WTF" films because this was the best one I've seen in recent years. Loads of excesses in the departments with the opening paying tribute to Brian De Palma's Carrie and a hilarious non-story scene thrust in the film.

Didn't close the factories, like the one in that film by heavy taxing chinese steel or the enterprises that did business abroad.
I mean, I disagree with 98-99% of his politics, this being one, but the guy promised those people there jobs back and they are getting them back, and it wasn't easy, it took balls. He made promises and it's probably one of the only politicians (not one) alive that actually did what he promised.

Really enjoyed this. A young girl and her little brother get stranded in the outback and have to figure a way out. Fortunately they run into a young man on his walkabout who helps them out a bit. That's the plot but there's more to it than that. Very good looking movie, solid acting (even the young boy) but it could be a tougher watch for some due to a few hunting scenes and some skinny dipping scenes. Rated GP or G but this is no Disney pic.

Little Women (2019)
Little Women (2019) proves that anyone given enough money can make a movie, but with this movie Greta Gerwig can't direct her way out of a wet bag. I haven't seen Lady Bird which seems to have gotten good reviews, but Greta's attempt at re-envisioning the classic tale of Little Women falls flat on it's bustle.
I get that directors often have an egotistical need to shoot a remake differently than was done before. But in doing so they need to keep the art in the cinema and not just do the latest trendy thing because they don't have any real inspiration.
Point blank, Little Women (2019) was amateurishly made and all of the faults lay with the director. Sure non-linear story telling has become popular and when done by a skilled director it can add layers of time passage to a film. But Greta's hackjob flashbacks ruins the continuity of this lovely tale of four sisters coming of age during the Civil War era. The flashbacks are jarring and seemed to be edited into the film without nary an eye for film flow...At the different stages of their lives the characters still look the same, literally they never seem to change. That too is a directorial mistake as it becomes hard then to differentiate between the different time frames. If I wasn't already familiar with the story, I couldn't have followed what was going on. As it was I still got lost as to what time frame the film was currently flashing back too. And I'm still not sure which one was Beth. The Beth character had little story development which weakened that part of the story, she was almost an non entity. Actually most of the characters felt hollow and ill defined.
Yet another directorial flaw is how abruptly each scene starts and ends. There's no brief set up so that the scene can be placed into perspective...and when the scene is over it just ends without a moment of reflection. This depletes the pathos that this story so richly provides.
If all that isn't enough gone wrong, the director has the actresses rattling off their lines in rapid fire, so much so that when the four girls are together and talking, it sounds flat and artificial and the vernacular sounds of the modern day.
All of my complaints are coming from someone who loves the Little Women story, especially the 1994 version directed by Gillian Armstrong. This last version directed by Greta Gerwig makes Ed Wood Jr. look like a genius.

Third or fourth re-watch, the notorious noir starring Claire Trevor, Lawrence Tierney, and one of my favorites, Elisha Cook, Jr., is never boring, and is surprising in its brutal nature for its time. It's expertly directed by the legendary Robert Wise.
When Tierney and Trevor meet, the sparks and raw lust fly. Tierney eventually muscles in on Trevor's wealthy sister looking for easy street, but his prior murders catch up with him.
A real life tough guy, brawler and drinker, Tierney brings to the role a menacing charisma that few in Hollywood could match. Trevor takes on the complicated role of the woman torn between lust and security. Walter Slezak does a turn as a sleazy detective who's aiming at big time money, and who manages to both solve the crime but remain alive. And Elisha Cook, Jr. is memorable as Tierney's faithful friend and protector.
This is an important noir classic, and has been beautifully preserved.

I guess the Florence Pugh magic didn't wash over you? I kept imagining her as a younger version of Janeane Garofalo. She was too old looking to play Amy the youngest. And the actress who played Meg the oldest, looked like she was 15.

Little Women (2019)
Little Women (2019) proves that anyone given enough money can make a movie, but with this movie Greta Gerwig can't direct her way out of a wet bag. I haven't seen Lady Bird which seems to have gotten good reviews, but Greta's attempt at re-envisioning the classic tale of Little Women falls flat on it's bustle.
...
Yeah, but the important thing is that Gerwig was "empowered", isn't it?...:D

I crudeli (1967)
aka The Hellbenders, The Cruel Ones
Another Corbucci within a couple of days. It's maybe a tiny bit better than the previous but still far from The Great Silence. It's apparently a film Tarantino likes and it's not hard to believe that. It's like a mix of traditional western and spaghetti with very Corbucci-like (hilariously) tragic ending.

Verotika (2019)
Yeah, um? I don't think I've ever seen this inept filmmaking before. How is it even possible to act so badly? Stories consist mostly of filler scenes that are clumsily edited together (wtf are those fades to black between every single scene change). It looks like a hybrid between a telenovela and a cheap porn film with some horror tropes thrown into the mix. Recommended if you want to see a really bad film.

The end of an era, and a farewell to it's icon.
Like with The Crow, this film is very emotionally charged because of the main actors off screen drama.
Couldn't help but be moved by this film, and that means high rating, otherwise It would be a 2,5/5.

A documentary about the Apollo moon missions, starting with Apollo 8. All it is is astronauts talking over film footage of everything from pre flight, to orbiting the earth, to walking on the moon. If space exploration is your thing this is pretty neat. The Astronauts crack me up on a few occasions. Absolute professionals yet they have a certain childlike quality once there out there that's fun to watch and listen to. Some of them are straight up goofballs. Mission control is not as amused by this characteristic as I am. A lot of the footage I had never seen before and I think it's some of Kubrick's best work. Wish someone would have taught him how to frame a shot though ;)

The Lodge (2020)
Not a big fan of the horror films released this year, The Lodge is the prototypical low budget modern horror film that only really has 4 characters(with 2 supporting figures). It's the story of a young woman who is left to care for her finances children from a previous marriage. It's the pale teenage son played by one of the IT kids, the pale creepy daughter, that girl, and menacing bearded boyfriend guy. All the archetypes that you want in a psychological thriller. Often times you think you're getting one film and then it turns around and you get something else that you didn't want...It Comes At Night...for example. This is a film that gives you what you want.
It's a great film, good tension couple good twists and you'll find your sympathies moving from character to character. I haven't seen The Turning yet but I think this is a better update of gothic horror story.

The best of the bunch!
One of the stupidest arguments I've heard about this film is "No one fears John Wick anymore". One can deslike for many reasons, but this I don't understand. In the first film, Wick was feared by many, but not by the killers who are part of his world. In the second, the only difference is that there are many more killers, but those who are not, still fear him.
I see poetry in the action scenes, I don't know how to explain it, but all the violence, the unrealistic reality + the realistic way of dealing with weapons are an appeal to me.

I do not agree with the use of CGI in this chapter, also, the desert sequence looks a bit off - it breaks the mood a little bit. Loved Halle Berry and hope she appears in the next one, just like Cassian (Common ) from chapter 2. Don't like Ruby Rose (the silent assassin), hope they don't bring her back. As a great The Raid fan, It's so great to see those guys in a real action movie made in america, since Star Wars The Force Garbage didn't make them justice. Watched all of them in one sitting. It was very fun.

It was a lot better than I expected which is one of the reasons I hadn't seen it yet - I thought I would hate it since the only film I ever liked from the director was Repulsion. I actually wanted to hate it but it is a fantastic movie. One of the best I've ever seen at building tension scene to scene. One of my problems with the director's other films is they always seem to have poor pacing, they drag imo, but not this. It flies by. Mia was outstanding and the supporting cast was pretty gosh darn good as well.

When I was a kid, I used to watch Batman & Robin, and think "Wow, this is dumb, but I love it", some friends used to take the costumes very serious, I couldn't. even for a six or seven years old version of myself, I was like... Meh... I remember watching Batman Begins so many years later and thinking: Where's the Bat Nipples and the Neon? - Still couldn't take the movie serious. It was like this until The Dark Knight, for some reason... (need to rewatch it) — But my point is: John Rambo was my Super Hero. Tough, relentless, self-sufficient, responsible, very strong and honest with a big heart. Of course I didn't fully understod the drama of the war back in the days. I was there just for the fun. The explosions, the guns, the ACTION.
When I grew up, I started to take films so serious, that I started to believe that the Rambo sequels where all bad because they were just absurd. Since I started to rate films, Rambo II was always like 2 or three stars out of five. "It's not a serious movie, how can I enjoy it?" Well, now I'm even older, and I'm rediscovering something I lost, the pure fun of just sitting and watch a movie for what it is. Rambo II is popcorn, it have it's meaning, but once again, I'm here for the fun. John Rambo still my super hero. Hats off to Goldsmith. Love the soundtrack.

Hal - 10/10
Hal Ashby was the real deal. Great editor and an even better director. His 70s stuff was amazing. I love his integrity, and always like rebels, especially when they have a lot to lose. It's easy to be a hero when you're on the bottom and have nothing to lose.

A bit lackluster spaghetti by Castellari. Its mix of comedy (almost like Terence Hill & Bud Spencer movie) and darker tones never feels balanced. Also, the heist plot feels a bit too WWII to me.

Another decent Boetticher/Scott Western, this time with a run-time of 1 hour and 18 minutes. Very similar to Ride Lonesome but 7 Men From Now has better 'guest performances' ; Gail Russel and Lee Marvin.

It wasn't as good as I remembered but still quite watchable B-movie. I'd like more horror and less comedy. Cliched, but not bad.

The Creepy Line (2018)
Watch this documentary while you still can. It's on Amazon Prime, although I suspect they're being pressed by Google/Facebook to take it down.
From IMDB: The Creepy Line reveals the stunning degree to which society is manipulated by Google and Facebook and how they do it.
Those who routinely use Google, Facebook, Chrome, Gmail, etc. are quite simply...... prey.
A very well researched factual documentary.
Doc's rating: 9/10

Realized that I've been watching too many good movies lately so:

3 for what it is.
And what is it? 100% ex-ploi-ta-tion. Nasty, nasty little flick about a couple of Catholic schoolgirls going door to door trying to sell religious stuff in the worst redneck, white trash, hell town on earth. I suppose the thinking goes those are the people who need that stuff the most so why not? Well, these folks ain't interested in the stuff the girls are selling but they are interested in things like prostitution, drugs, murder, sex, Nunsploitation flicks, strip clubs, necrophilia and, especially after one of the girls witnesses a murder while peeking through a window, schoolgirls selling religious materials who witness murders. They capture the girls and what follows is an R and R flick and for that type of crud it's not too bad. A little of this and a lot that here (wardrobe budget was probably pretty small.) Would've liked a little more gore but they appeared to do the best they could. One of the flicks trying to benefit from the QT/RR Grindhouse of the late 2000's and is one of the better (icky, nasty) ones. Doesn't go for laughs much if at all which always kind of annoyed me with the resurgence of these films.

3.5 as compared to others in the genre.
Heard the movie room door open, GF popped her head into the room "What are you wa...." then I heard the door close and footsteps trailing off. It happened that fast. It's too bad because despite plenty of awful in this pic one of its strengths is actually the story. Claims to be a true story but I ain't uh, uhm, nah, not buying it - but it is a tale as old as time. A family goes to the Amazon, Mom and Dad get killed and beheaded by natives, daughter is taken prisoner and is forced to marry native man after he beats up other suitor and dude actually turns out to be kind of okay, a little Dances with Wolves story evolves, daughter finds out what really happened to her parents, things happen and it ends. The entire movie is a flashback as the movie starts with the daughter on trial for something? Well that's what we'll find out. Pretty decent gore in this, a few beheadings (seems to be no.1 cause of death in the area), a scene or two of animal on animal violence (leopard hunting, mostly) which I'm not a fan of but seems to be in all these Amazon movies, the daughter goes sans top for the majority of the film but it fits as none of the women in the tribe wear tops. I guess this is one of the flicks that they tried to pass off as Cannibal Holocaust 2 It doesn't come close to that in any way, shape or form but it's not that bad. Has a nice twist ending, decent gore, bad acting, very cute lead so, yeah - I'd put it in the second tier of Amazon exploitation flicks.
Fabulous

I have a feeling a lot of Adam Sandler movie "classics" won't stand up over time. This one still has some humor, but there were multiple instances where I was thinking how the hell did I ever find that funny. It was good to see Chris Farley, Norm Macdonald, a younger Bradley Whitford and others though.
...the daughter goes sans top for the majority of the film...
I wish more films would take this approach :D

aka Django Kill... If You Live, Shoot!
I had my hopes high after reading what Wiki had to say about this. So while it's rather mediocre spaghetti, I was honestly disappointed. I don't get the horror tag at all, it's not any more surreal than many other obscure spaghettis and even the violence is vastly exaggerated in various comments (it appears that the otherwise great copy on Youtube is a cut version though, but at least some of the missing footage is in other videos there).
It's still OK and little on the weird side. I wonder how much seeing the uncut version would change things.

Neat little movie about a cat in Paris leading a double life. By day, a mild mannered pet of a little girl. At night, a companion to a fleet footed burglar. A kind of thriller where the girl, her mom (a police officer), the burglar and some mob types are all connected somehow (they explain it) which leads to a final showdown. The animation is all hand drawn and looked pretty good. Really good actually. Not the biggest fan of animation movies but this was good.

Leprechaun
(Mark Jones, 1993)
2.5
Jennifer Aniston, pre-Friends, pre-rhinoplasty, pre-acting ability, is a spoiled daddy's girl on a secluded ranch being terrorized by an evil leprechaun hellbent on retrieving his stolen gold coins. Joining her are 3 Guys That Paint: a Kevin Sorbo-lookin' motherf**ker who quickly becomes the love interest, his kid brother, and a mentally-handicapped man-child named Ozzie. After them is Warwick Davis in culturally-appropriated Irish garb and a day's worth of grotesque make-up, acting his little damn ass off as he scurries about wreaking havoc with impish glee.
Nothing about this movie makes any damn sense. For long stretches it feels like a children's film with its silly antics, slapstick humor, and general naivety, then suddenly there's a burst of gore in graphic close-up. The leprechaun's magic manifests itself in the lamest ways, such as teleporting to a car so that he can roller skate behind it, or by welding together a demolition-style go-kart with farm tools in record speed. The absence of his gold coins supposedly weakens his magic, but I think that's either an excuse to skimp on the special-effects or the leprechaun simply enjoys getting his hands bloody by offing fools the old-fashioned way. A four-leaf clover is the leprechaun's kryptonite. He also has an uncontrollable impulse to shine shoes, which is used against him in one of many bizarre WTF sequences.
Leprechaun is like a nightmarish version of a Lucky Charms commercial created for (and by?) demented special-needs children. I enjoyed its absurdity, although I’m not sure which fact surprises me more: That this movie spawned numerous sequels, or that Jennifer Aniston became one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

The Creepy Line
I already knew most of the things that were shown, but people should check it out anyway. People are being lied to constantly, by those platforms, but by a lot of people who have no interest in the truth and weaponize information. I think censorship (and self-censorship) goes against the spirit of the internet (and the US), but that's just one of many negatives about this big tech monopoly. Free speech, data stealing, influence, recording and uploading our personal lives.. I once had my own book advertised to me! Unfortunately, I'd say most will only object when it's "their" side (whatever that means, groups are the enemy) being oppressed, and their goal is to switch oppressed to oppressor, "getting even", instead of getting it right.
I still have a flip-phone but there is always a screen on when I'm home. Just today I was having issues with someone I know because she must be too afraid to call, and insists on texting, even though I can't hear it, and I hardly ever look at my phone.
Years ago, I was having a conversation with my cousin, and I was saying besides the billions they make, they might be one of the most powerful group in the world in the disinformation age. He could only reply with "Well, facebook is free", only for me to reply with "WE are the product"... We don't use the public square anymore, Twitter (etc) is the new public square. Once everyone is on there is when real power can be displayed. When you are banned (many times for no reason) off YouTube, etc., you can't just go back to old fashioned forms of communication such as a loud-speaker at a corner Downtown.. If I break a rule, I pay the price, and then everything is back to normal, as opposed to a lifetime ban. There's conformity with that, too. When one platforms bans a public figure, it snowballs. They know we can arbitrarily ignore, but this is more than just money, it's power. Many of these companies are subsidized by the public one way or another, too, only to turn the gun on you whenever they feel like it.

Thanks @GulfportDoc (http://www.movieforums.com/community/member.php?u=96919)
Your points are absolutely correct, Matt. And the scary thing is that these in-effect monopolies collude with government and intelligence agencies in a corporatist fashion. I was surprised to learn that most Federal agencies use gmail! Good God. We're now living in a surveillance state, and the public doesn't seem to be paying any attention.

I don't really know how to explain this rating. I'm kinda surprised I finished it, but it didn't do anything technically bad in my eyes. It just didn't draw me in, which is similar to the feeling I got watching Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer. I understand the message it portrays, but it just didn't translate to a recommendable movie for me.

Loved this one. A piano player gets mixed up with some bad dudes thanks to his two brothers. It's more character driven than plot driven (plots not bad) and if you can get into the shy, insecure Charlie/Edouard's story of how he went from successful piano prodigy to a bar room boogie playing pianist with a couple of crooks after him, you'll probably enjoy this.

Leprechaun 2
(Rodman Flender, 1994)
2
Once upon a time in Ireland, our favorite leprechaun placed a curse on his human slave, vowing to marry the man's offspring in one thousand years. Why such a long wait? Beats me. Why has the leprechaun been hiding inside a tree dedicated to Harry Houdini? No clue. Why is there not a single mention of the previous film's events? Who cares. (There's a theory that this is an entirely different leprechaun, which would explain the different mythology and newfound abilities/weaknesses of the miniature monster, but I think the most probable explanation is creative laziness.)
In some ways Leprechaun 2 is an improvement over its predecessor. The budget is noticeably larger. The world is less constrained. The kills are more bizarre and there's a brief bit of boobage. Yet I found this offering less enjoyable. Perhaps that's the novelty already wearing off. Or maybe I just missed the playful charm of the original. This iteration of the leprechaun is more sadistic. He speaks almost entirely in eye-rolling limericks. He can't hold his liquor. Women are forced to become his bride simply by sneezing three times without a "bless you." (To see if that trick works for me, I’ll soon be blowing pollen in the face of every babe I encounter.)
Despite some fun sequences, most of the movie is a slog. The plot follows a standard save-the-princess formula as our useless female character is sought and rescued by a wet-blanket protagonist. Even Warwick Davis, the lifeblood of the series, gives a less inspired performance than his first go-round, as you can already see the mirthful energy in his eyes yielding to cynical dollar signs, much like the gold-obsessed monster he embodies.

My favorite Truffaut film. One of the best movies from 1960 to usher in the innovative films of the '60s. It's humorous, off-beat, and touching-- all at the same time. I was so taken with the lilting piano theme played by the Charles Aznavour character that I went out and bought the record.

A slight misstep from what I was expecting. I think a good documentary may be able to tell this story a little better. There are plenty of facts communicated here, but the pacing was a bit too slow and uneven in my opinion. The acting was also a bit worse than I anticipated (Ruffalo's pouty face the whole time threw me off, but maybe that was intended based on the real character).

Ordinary People (1980)
This psychological drama was potent in it's reflection on the most difficult aspects of family and social life. I cried four times during this movie which focused heavily on the misunderstandings of relationships. Donald Sutherland played a loving father trying to hold his family together after the tragic death of their eldest son. Mary Tyler Moore played the mother who couldn't love her second son as much as her deceased eldest. This was also somewhat a coming of age story. Elizabeth McGovern played the delightful Jeannine who saved this story from being a total tragedy. She was beautiful and delightful. There was so much pain in this movie, and so much of it delivered in incredible subtlety, I think many people will be able to relate similar experiences and see why we must look past the surface and give the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Holden documentary. I watched it last night on YouTube, and enjoyed it. Holden was one of my favorites, especially since Sunset Blvd.
I was living in Hollywood in 1981 when he died. Some friends who worked for the studios said that while drunk, Holden had tried to stand on a chair to change a light bulb. He fell and hit is head on a table, causing a fatal concussion.
We were all a bunch of drunks then anyway, so it was pretty God-awful news.
I guess there are several docs in that series. Will probably watch some more. The Quinn one ought to be pretty good too.

Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer
I've always been interested about Ted Kaczynski, and lately, Ted Bundy (with so many docs popping up), but this is the WORST I've seen. It's more of a feminist show.
The interesting parts of the first 2 segments were the portions when the girlfriend or her daughter were interviewed, and when they stuck to the facts of the case embellished by the women's commentary. But unfortunately half of the running time seemed devoted to promoting the tenets of doctrinaire feminism and the "womens' movement", of which I have less than zero interest in, or sympathy for. Why they tried to correlate or contrast feminism with Bundy's horrific murder spree is a mystery to me. It doesn't work, and it's very off-putting.
By the 3rd ep they had backed off some of the whiney feminist dogma. There were only a few references to the subject which, although they negatively stuck out like sore thumbs, were brief. The production got more into the mindset and reactions of the girlfriend and her daughter. Elizabeth's interviews mentioned her alcohol abuse, but probably not enough has not been made so far of her likely alcoholism-- which can put a person into incomprehensible situations and states of mind. My guess is that her sobering up and possibly getting into 12 step or treatment compelled her to reveal her story.

Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made (2018)
A short mockumentary of the cursed movie, Antrum, made in the 70s as well as the full movie itself. I'm a sucker for these evil pieces of art that either drives the consumer crazy, summons some unworldly horror or just plain kills anyone who dares to watch it. Antrum is above the average entry to this genre. The mockumentary is quite basic but the actual film is pretty good. It has some stupid moments (like everything related to the hunters) but for the most parts, it's atmospheric and positively weird. And that squirrel :shifty:

Was really looking forward to watching this so I was a little disappointed. A bit too twisty-turny just for the sake of it. I didn't like Craig's accent at all and thought it was distracting. Barely any of the humor landed for me; however, with the exception of Craig's accent, it is well acted and is some serious eye candy. I thought Marta's condition was interesting but if I was interviewing someone about a murder with that particular tick I'd have them in a room for hours with a couple gallons of pea soup and a few five gallon buckets (why not have some fun). I guess if you did that, though, you wouldn't have much of a movie, so I understand why they went a different route. The set up and ending are good it just overall missed the mark with me. If I ever catch it on TV on some lazy, rainy day I'd probably watch it again but wouldn't plan another viewing.

Been a long time since I saw this back in the day - I still think it's a great film. This is Kubrick plumbing the depths of human psyche exploring the themes of love, marriage, sex, sexual repression and polygamy in his characteristically clinical, detached style. Love the mystery, the dream-like ambiguity, the little things and nuances that tickle your imagination. Also, the fact that a real-life couple, Cruise and Kidman, was cast added a whole new (and very intriguing) dimension to the psychological context of the film.

This rating may seem low given the praise this movie seems to be getting, but I still can't fully buy into these kinds of movies. This is probably the highest rating I can give for a movie with an invisible killer in it. Elizabeth Moss is terrific and carries so much emotion in her scenes, but the plot itself seems to contain some holes if you think too hard on it....but I don't think thats the intent.

Although I loved the atmosphere, I wasn't much of a fan of The Witch from the same director, so I didn't have high expectations here. Great decision to film in black and white and it was a terrific horror film. It looks superb and the two leads are excellent. I told my wife it was a 50's classic. Leprechaun 3
(Brian Trenchard-Smith, 1995)
3
Thanks to a magical medallion and a complete disregard for continuity, our leprechaun is now a stone statue inside a pawn shop on the Las Vegas strip. After an act of greed returns the Irish imp to his original form, he bludgeons the shop owner to death, spits some naughty rhymes, then storms Sin City in search of his stolen shilling, while setting aside enough time to rack fat stacks of chips at the closest craps table. ("This is my kind of place -- crooked and sleazy! Stealing gold from humans is awfully easy!")
Leprechaun 3 is the first in the series to abandon aspirations of being a proper horror film, instead committing wholeheartedly to the campy, comedic potential of its premise. We've got our hottest heroine yet, exploding butts and titties, potato addictions, human slot machines, glowing green excrement, werewolf-like transformations, brainwashed stripteases, killer f**k bots; along with important life lessons: don't gamble away your tuition, always heed the warning of a hobo, and the age-old classic: careful what you wish for. The script also touches on sexual harassment in the work place and takes a few pointed, amusing jabs at the health-care industry. Warwick Davis seems to savor every silly sequence, as he dons several new hats throughout the run-time: Elvis impersonator, financial advisor, fortune teller, televangelist, the world's ugliest nurse. It's no surprise to read that he once cited Leprechaun 3 as his favorite of the series. Easily the most entertaining entry thus far.

Pretty one-dimensional film about a man-hunt after the Civil War in USA. A Warren Oates (in another life) rather than Mr Handsome Brosnan may have helped.
