I wholeheartedly loved this film. Great visuals and it actually tugged on my heart strings many times during the film (mostly towards the end). The cast was great. And even though he is in everything these days I do enjoy watching Jason Clarke on screen.

Oh.......................my god. I loved this movie. Ridiculously over the top fast paced laughs and scares. Cast was great. And there were some fantastic one liners (Especially the last one). This movie greatly exceeded my very low expectations. They need to make a sequel to this.

What the hell!? There is a love story, a war film and some native Indians somewhere in this tangled and frustrating mess . The whole thing was overpowered by the score, which made even the most dramatic scenes loose effect. It felt like I was watching two films at once. A native American love story and a war film, which didn't meld very well due to a complete lack of characterization. The script is a mess, but of course this films strength is in its action and fighting scenes which are quite entertaining. The ending was the best scene of the whole film.

Much better than MI2, I see this and the first one on the same level imo. I do think the acting in this is much better than 1 or 2 though. Philip Seymour Hoffman is great as the villain as well. And of course the introduction to Benji (Simon Pegg) doesn't hurt this movie either.

Bit of a slow burning detective crime drama.
Most of the action is in the first few minutes and the last few minutes.

When a documentary has exclusivity like this it kind of pains me to give it a fairly low rating. I try to do my ratings based on enjoyment though, and I just didn't enjoy this all that much. These are a couple of interesting characters. I am always amazed that people actually live like this, pretty astounding. Unfortunately, I didn't really get anything out of my viewing that I wouldn't have gotten from the articles they show at the beginning of the film.

I love Bresson's other films, "Pickpocket" and "A Man Escaped" but this was disappointing. It felt empty. You would see the end result of a situation, but nothing leading to it, no means to the end. Not a good script.. Oh well..

This was my kind of movie! Very fun watching D-Fens' rampage throughout LA unfold. It's funny, thrilling, dramatic and pulled off very well. At first you think it's just a mindless and violent episode but you soon find out that it's something much more emotional and empathetic. I don't consider myself a massive Michael Douglass fan but he plays an awesome character in this one. Great film!

Terminator: Genisys (2015)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/Terminator_Genisys.JPG
Actually not nearly as bad as the reputation around release... Yes, the plot is convoluted and pretty messy, but it's fun and playful while creating a 5th entry in the series that feels as fresh and reinforced as it can at this point. Basically there was nothing to tell after the first film, but the sequel did anyways and succeeded, while also setting up the possible for more movies to do the same... and they did, but failed. This one is still a failed attempt at keeping this franchise alive, but as a movie just for fun and as an official sequel (/remake) in the series, I'm fine with accepting this one. I had fun with it and I think it kind of succeeded in the same way Jurassic World did, by making a sequel and a remake inside the same film. The first half was the best though and it began to get lost in typical blockbuster nonsense towards the end, but whatever. Mostly this film surprised me and I liked it.

Yeah, I enjoyed it a lot more than I ever imagined, but as long as you are not downright sh*tting on it, you are not one of those I talk about. I think it's unnecessary to slam it with a 1/10 or something, though it totally depends on what you expect and what you look for... I look for it to not suck, and didn't, and it gave me more than just "not sucking" as well. :p

This pretty much sums up my feeling towards this film. Simmons and Teller were great, but I wasn't very engaged. Why should I care about this Andrew kid? He didn't have any redeeming qualities and managed to be a complete hole to the girl that was out of his league to begin with.
I couldn't quite figure Fletcher out either. Out of all the people in the band, the drummers are the only ones that messed up, or were that far below the skill of the rest of the players? I can appreciate the intensity goes to 11, but why?
Then we get to the final act. Loved it. It was one of the most satisfying scenes in recent memory. Fletcher trying to bury Andrew and Andrew (after a mild delay) turning it right back around on him.
I get that every movie is not made so you like the people in it. I just ended up rooting for both of them to get the short end.

Melancholia, Lars Von Trier.
Pretty powerful stuff. I especially loved how big the difference between the two acts is. In the first one we are intoduced to Justine (Kirsten Dunst <3) and we learn to pity her and feel sorry for her. In the second act, though, her presence gets bigger and bigger and swallows the life of people around her, with no escape. And uselessly, too. She thinks she is right but she is not (it's 19 holes, not 18!), and it's too late to convince her. The beautiful, and too short, shot in which she lays down naked under the night sky with Melancholia rapidly approaching is perfect. She likes it, it's her only source of satisfaction. Justine is a movie villain if there ever was one.
Sure it's a slow movie, but it's definitely a good kind of slow and I wouldn't have wanted it any shorter.
8.5/10
Scary Movie, Keenen Ivory Wayans.
I had to, since I just finished watching the Screams, and I won't lie: some parts are pretty funny. Sure, some jokes are super lame and cheesy, but as opposed to most of the later *Random word* Movie, it still seemed like the people involved into it cared and wanted to make something enjoyable.

Based on a true story, a couple goes on a camping trip deep into the Canadian woods. The guy doesn't bring a map because he's been there in the past, and he sneaks out his GF's cell phone and leaves it in the car so she isn't glued to it. There's bears you stupid ass!

Like Derek previously said, this is a very slow movie. For an adventure thriller, that is not good. Fortunately, the movie is only 90 minutes long, and it does a nice job at creating tension. There is only one scene of action in the movie, and it is pretty horrific. It's a fairly effective movie, but just don't expect too much.

After three watches, I might have noticed a bit more detail, I might have found it easier to just move along with and I might like it a litte bit better than my first watch... But that said, almost everything I said in my original review and all the same thoughts I had I still stand by. The movie is a messy and convoluded journey that just isn't groovy or trippy enough to carry itself on characters and fractured semi-funny scenes. If I try to follow the story very closely it is definitely possible to do, but it's not fun or interesting and when I try to just look at the characters I become a bit bored as well.
An uneven film that looks like the receipe to a predestined cult hit, but without a bong hit I'm not sure where I'm at here. I think I know what this movie wants, but I don't really like it too much...

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) 4
WAS my favorite in the MI series (Just got topped by Rogue Nation). Benji getting a much bigger role was a smart move on their part. Of course the scenes in Dubai were the peak of the movie. Poor Jeremy Renner, next thing you know they'll try and make him the next bond and he'll be vilified for being in THAT role. He is actually a good actor and it sucks he keeps getting shoe horned into other spy movies instead of just getting his own. He was great in the movie.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015) 4
Despite giving it the same rating I do now give the edge to RN. I really liked it, it was fun all around. One thing I absolutely loved in this movie was the dynamic between Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames, i could seriously just watch a full movie of those two stuck in traffic bitching at each other. Simon Pegg did a good job....playing Simon Pegg, but that isn't a problem because Pegg is just such a likable guy. Now I gotta talk about Rebecca Ferguson. I've never even heard of this girl before....but damn she is fineeeee and a badass. I need to see her in more movies. The MI series seriously needs to find and keep a recurring female character, and I wouldn't complain at all if it was her. Oh and Tom Cruise still got it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was an action hero until he is like 96. This dude has more balls than any other actor i've ever seen HE ACTUALLY HUNG TO THE SIDE OF AN F-ING PLANE FOR THAT SHOT AT THE BEGINNING!

This was pretty damn good. Dark as hell too. Then again this is about hunting down a Cartel crime lord so yeah that is to be expected. The cartels are portrayed appropriately; as evil SOBs. Though certain characters are shown to be very very grey in how they operate. Either way, very suspenseful, great performances and was very well shot and paced.

The Apu Trilogy (in the Historic Texas Theater)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/77/Pather_panchali_poster_in_color_1.jpg
This was a really good film. Satyajit Ray was heavily influenced by Italian Neorealism and it shows. Essentially giving us a Bengali version of a film like Bicycle Thieves or Umberto D. Themes of poverty and hardship are present, as are the use of non professional actors. And like Italian neorealism, it hits the heartstrings hard. The film follows a poor but high caste family. Especially on the son Apu Really great and moving film. Highly recommended.

Well there's my advantage... the press screenings are completely free AND when movies are re-released there is going to be press screenings for them as well, like with Blade Runner recently, so some classics I do get to see on the big screen. Also, a theatre not too far away do some classic showings from time to time that are also fairly inexpensive, so I guess it's pretty good here anyways. Not on your level of big screen classics watching though. :D

An interesting take on the zombie genre. The film centers around a family hiding in a bunker after some kind of virus has caused a zombie apocalypse. The dark, dank bunker and the subdued lighting gave an authentic post apocalyptic feel. From about half an hour in though I guessed what the big twist would be, but I liked the way it was delivered. Throughout the film the little girl keeps referring to the mysterious people they are hiding from as "breathers" which kind of gave it away a little. The ending was a let-down and seemed rushed and kind of an anticlimax. That said, Hidden is a pretty good and original zombie film.

House of 1000 Corpses is one of the worst horror films I've ever seen. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The only highlight is the Captain Spaulding character, who is pretty funny, but other than that it's just a collection of flashing inverted images and scenes stolen from classic horrors. I think Rob Zombie should stick to music because he can't write a film script to save his life.

Diary of a Country Priest - 7/10
The movie pulled me in, but there are parts where the script is too focused on religious imagery that didn't have much weight. It's a very somber film, and that's fine. It's just odd you never see laughter or happiness in a film, but the protagonist (the priest) goes through his own problems, and the interaction between other characters is fun. The narration was definitely not a high point, but I still recommend this film.

When do you see laughter or happiness in any Bresson film?
Three Colors Trilogy: White (Kielowski, 1994)
http://i.imgur.com/fhkhApv.jpg
This film has atmosphere alright, but it doesn't know what it wants to be. It's too solemn and downright pretentious to be a comedy film and on the other hand it's too light-hearted, easygoing, and lacks in length to be considered a powerful drama. No wonder people say this one is the worst out of the trilogy, I probably will end up loving the other two though according to synopses and reviews I read.

Viewed this one with my mom, who isn't a big Ford fan. She ended up really liking it, as did I. Going into this I had the assumption that this was "lesser" Ford. I do agree that it isn't a masterpiece - but it's a really great film. It's a great piece of entertainment and it's one of his most beautifully shot films, I think. Also contains one of the best Wayne performances.

The Replacements, Howard Deutch
Basically nothing works in this movie, what with its awful dialogue, its zero credibility especially in how Keanu Reeve's character becomes the leader of the team (like really, what does he do to deserve to be called a leader? Nothing. I am not saying I didn't like him as a person, but what the hell), its forced funny moments, its poor direction with some close-ups that should be declared against the low, and god I am all in for some nice booty shaking cheerleaders, but was it really necessary to show them every two seconds during the final match? Nope, it wasn't.
So, as I was saying, nothing works but somehow the movie manages to be enjoyable and has you cheering for the unlikely team that tries to make it to the NFL playoffs.

Housebound, Gerard Johnston.
Nice comedy horror with the perfect balance between...yeah, comedy and horror. Worth watching even if just for how the main character delivers the line "Do they?". It' seriously one the funniest things ever.
Also, the story was pretty good and its perfect in shifting from paranormal elements to more so thriller ones.

One of the most absurd films that I have ever seen. A virus wipes out Scotland so the country has to be quarantined behind a big wall. And only 25 years later one half of the survivors have turned into lawless savages and the other half have reverted back to the 16th century way of living..? It's a mixture of Mad Max, Braveheart. 28 Days Later and a Bentley advert. There is lots of gore and some good action scenes, but that doesn't make up for how stupid the plot is.

Antfarm Dickhole (2011)
1+
A couple of buddies are out in the woods when they get beat up by some bullies. While one of them is unconscious, an army of killer ants crawl up his picklehole and make a home. Of course they don't bother his uncircumcised friend because his donk resembles an anteater. An anteater does make an appearance. In order for our hero to get relief and release some ants, he needs to have as much sex as he can, and masturbate as often as possible. I don't know what my excuse is, but that seems like a good reason to me. He also decides to seek revenge on the bullies by unleashing the ants on their girlfriends. In one scene, he humps a tailpipe in order to send the ants into one girl's car, killing her.

This is most definitely the cheapest movie I've ever seen. However, it's not the worst, and I did enjoy it to some extent. There is a wealth of cheesy dialogue, such as "feces spreads diseasies", and it's so ludicrous that it's impossible to take it seriously. There is almost constant and pointless female nudity, and it would appear that they hired some local strippers. As long as you know what to expect going in, it's not terrible to watch.

It's beautiful, frightening, heartbreaking, enlightening and breathtaking. The visuals are completely out of this world, with lots of amazing fluent and organic camera work and symmetri, filmed with extreme high definition cameras that creates an endless amount of detail and lenses that makes it possible to look into this world, our world, and far beyond into the horizon... An extraordinary experience.

Johnny Dangerously, Amy Heckerling.
I noticed someone here watched it the other day, I liked the title so I said to myself why not. It's a ridicolous spoof on gangster movies that works pretty well for most of its lenght. Sure there are some really bad jokes, but most of them are funny enough to make it a good comedy. There are a lot of scenes worth mentioning but for some reason the ones that cracked me up the most were Johnny break dancing to a 20s song and his brother's screams in the car accident scene. Brilliant. Michael Keaton is great and obviously having a lot of fun, but the rest of the cast also does a really good job.

I did enjoy this movie although this movie was a bit predictable, I did this a while ago when I was younger and just did not enjoy the slow character building but now I appreciate it a bit more. Sylvester Stallone was a likable moron but some of the actors were under used, Robert Deniro and Ray Liotta for example got little screen time and did not really seem to impact on the film much. I think Harvey Keitel seemed to have toned it back to what he should have been, I was expecting a more menacing presence. Overall though the movie was good to watch and the story unfolded well I found myself rooting for Sly to succeed even if he had no clue.

Cross of Iron (1977)
Set in 1943, Cross of Iron tells the story of German soldiers fighting on the front line against the Soviet Army. Disillusioned, outnumbered and on low supplies, the German soldiers are leg by Sgt Steiner, played brilliantly by James Coburn, a highly decorated, battle-hardened war veteran who bravely leads his troops through every mission. But when a Prussian officer, Captain Stransky is installed as the new commander, a conflict of interest arises that results in catastrophic consequences.
A great anti-war film from Sam Peckinpah and it certainly has all the trademarks of his film. Violent, upsetting and full of slo-mo bloody deaths, Cross of Iron is an unrelenting and honest WWII movie that gives an insight into the horrors of war. From the opening images to its powerful ending it really is an impressive beast of a movie, that although is a tad overlong, is definately worth a watch.

For The Bible Tells Me So (2007)
This is a documentary, ostensibly an examination of what the Bible really says about homosexuality and the ways in which it has been interpreted or misinterpreted by different churches, but the heart of it is Christian families from different denominations with gay children talking about their experiences. Some of them accept their children, some of them don't, all of them struggle to reconcile their children's sexuality with their faith and it actually makes for quite a moving film. There are parts that don't work, such as a strange, slightly patronising and scientifically dubious cartoon in the middle which is shown in its entirety without context, and I wonder who the audience for this really is or is meant to be, but the human stories are interesting.

A symphony of light and shadow, Othello is one of the most visually striking films I've seen so far this month. The narrative is a bit rushed and incoherent at times. Overall, a good film - and another solid directorial effort from Welles, but I wouldn't quite call it great.

Echoing the story of 'The Monkey's Paw', the mother is shown rather bizaarely wishing and believing him home. Not even the dreaded doorstep call advising that he had actually been killed can deter her thoughts of his homecoming. However everything changes when he does in fact return home in the middle of the night, except this Andy is a lot different to the one that left.
Dead of Night is quite cheesy in parts although it does carry a heavy metaphor of the emotional trauma war can bring, especially the war in Vietnam in this case. Low-budget, depressing and bleak, it does work well as both an anti-war movie and a horror flick if you can get past some of the over-the-top acting.

When there are so many films like this one it takes something special to make it standout, and it fails to deliver. It's just another ghost story about an old house with a troubled past and a unsuspecting new tenant that gets caught up in the ghostly goings on.
The setting and atmosphere are fine. The problem is the film is just boring and not scary enough. The back story of the house would have made for an interesting and scary plot, if only it had been implemented better. The twist ending is the highlight. This is one of those films you can watch once and then loose interest. There are very few haunted house films that hold the viewers interest over multiple viewings. The scares have to be perfectly timed and an unnerving and dark atmosphere has to maintained throughout. The Conjuring is one of the very few modern horror films which has achieved this.

Wouldn't have been half as good without the Tarantino script. This ultra-violent and quirky thriller is synonymous for its larger than life main characters Alabama and Clarence - a prostitute and a oddball nerd with an Elvis obsession.
Without these colorful characters, not to mention Dennis Hopper's stella performance, this film would have been destined for the annals of action film mediocrity.

Johnny Depp is back. The cast was great. My biggest fear going in was Benedict Cumberbatch. He is one of my favorite actors but a British dude playing a Boston Senator? Surprisingly his accent wasn't the worst in the movie, and by the end I actually appreciated him. Joel Edgerton is fantastic in this movie and almost stole the show from Johnny Depp for me. The scene between Bulger and Connolly's wife is one of the most spine chilling scenes I've seen in a long time in a film. The weakest people in the film I'd say are Dakota Johnson and Adam Scott. I'll give Scott kudos for trying I just didn't buy into his character and Dakota Johnson I swear wasn't even trying to do an accent, halfway through the first scene she is in she just gives up.

Hard to be a God 3.5
filled with piss and sh*t and vomit and piss and vomit - and then some more sh*t; throw in some dirt, savagery, and brutality and you have you have Hard to be a God. My, what an atmospheric film this is. Andrei Rublev mixed with Gummo would be a sort of apt summary of the movie. It was tough to get through, I won't deny it, but I'm glad I did watch it. This is a science-fiction art-house horror film. Easily the filthiest and most grotesque film I've ever seen.
The Big Heat (Lang, 1953)
http://i.imgur.com/aECwby1.jpg
Average crime noir film that keeps the pace at blazing speed and features some good acting, but Lang's trademarks are all left behind to fit into a genre he isn't used to. Still his directing abilities remain and he revives what could have been a not so great film.

I think you and almost everybody overrates The Big Heat, but I don't get the part about "a genre he isn't used to". From 1944-1956, Lang made 12 crime noirs, and it can be argued that his '20s-'30s films created the blueprint for such films.

I went back and looked at my rating, gave it a 3.5. I remember nothing about this movie and saw it only two months ago. So yeah I think I overrated it. I have no allegiance to Lang though, not sure what that's about.

Be sure to check out the longer version... Well, there's a director's cut and a television cut, the latter which is even longer than the DC.
I heard this movie is even better in the tv cut, but since I have only seen the director's cut, I can only speak for that. But that also means I can say that there is no way this movie can be as good in the shorter version, so I'll say you have to at least see the director's cut of the film and maybe tv cut if you feel up for it. :)

The Mouse That Roared (1959) Re-watch.
I had seen this as a kid and somehow I remember it being funnier. Not to say that it wasn't humorous, but I can remember laughing myself silly all those years ago and the feeling this time just wasn't the same. Still, it's a nice little romp with Peter Sellers in his first starring role as Grand Duchess Gloriana XII, Prime Minister Count Rupert of Mountjoy, and Tully Bascombe, all royal members of Grand Fenwick, a tiny country that is going bankrupt. It decides to declare war on the U.S., surrender, then let the U.S. shower them with war reparations and make them solvent again. Sellers of course is brilliant in all three roles, particularly The Grand Duchess. The late, beautiful Jean Seberg co-stars as the American daughter of a scientist who has invented the ultimate bomb that is, for some reason, shaped like a football. You need to see it to know what happens, but there is fine backup from Leo McKern, and the first television Doctor Who, William Hartnell. It's good, but lower your expectations as far as classic Sellers goes and you'll have fun.

Pocketful of Miracles (1961)
A stellar cast of Glenn Ford, Bette Davis, (yep, he got top-billing over Bette!), Hope Lange, Peter Falk, Arthur O'Connell, Thomas Mitchell, Edward Everett Horton, Mickey Shaughnessy, Ann-Margret, and Sheldon Leonard all star in Frank Capra's remake of his 30's film, Lady For a Day (1933). This was Capra's last film and while not a classic like a great number of his films, it is entertaining. Still, despite the billing, I thought Davis would be the prime focus of this film, becoming, like May Robson, the Lady for a Day in this flick. She does, but Ford gets the lion's share of screen time here, and his story dealing with Sheldon Leonard's mob boss takes up way too much time, and then the whole story line is just dropped with a few throwaway lines at the end. Worth watching for Peter Falk, who steals every scene he's in and makes the movie worth watching if you're curious or a Falk fan, but it's not a must-see.

The Strawberry Blonde (1941)
Fine James Cagney film co-starring Olivia de Havilland, Rita Hayworth, and Jack Carson. Rita is the "strawberry blonde" of the title, but this is Cagney and de Havilland's film all the way. Cagney and Carson both have the hots for Hayworth but Carson is constantly beating Cagney's time with her. Cagney and de Havilland soon end up married, but Carson becomes a rich success, while Cagney struggles. All throughout the film, Cagney and de Havilland are reminded of their struggles while Carson and Hayworth flaunt their wealth in their faces. Yet, this is mostly a comedy/romance film, with some touches of drama throughout. Very much recommended.

Huh for some reason I never was aware of that. Though regardless of whether Lang is "used to" the genre or not, his style doesn't fit noir at all IMO.

I found Into The Woods appalling as well-- it's one thing to have good songs in a well-written musical -- another altogether to just randomly burst into song and sing all the dialogue. As I was driving home, my wife burst into the same silly style, about dropping popcorn down her shirt, and slow down idiot, there's a stop sign... we laughed all the way Into The House.

Well guys, it's probably because I watched the original one several years ago and I didn't remember it very well, but this Spike Lee's remake wasn't as bad as everyone seems to say. I found it to be an honest double-revenge movie with some good scenes, some bad ones (football field), solid acting by Brolin.

I watched it too.
Good movie except maybe for the third act, which doesn't work as well as the others. Humans' stupidity is very well portrayed in an unfortunately realistic way (I have no doubts that the way people react in this movie is what would actually happen if aliens visited us), and, as you said, it's good entertainment.
The message is important indeed, but it's also true that it's really, really similar to America's way of acting towards dangerous, or potentially dangerous, countries. It's ironic, really.

A mixed bag for me. It's a subversive and captivating film at points, while at other times it's the sort of banal philosophizing one would expect in a student film. The film is growing on me, so maybe the rating will jump up in time. At the moment it's an "ok" but not great Cronenberg film.

This one may get me in a bit of trouble but I can handle it. First of all let me say there is a lot of blame to go around in this travesty and #1-5 on the list of people doing things the wrong way are the police. They thought they had the right kids and because of that simply railroaded them. It is textbook abuse of power in it is unforgivable. The problem for me is that this is all the documentary cares about and all it is going to let us in on. I want these kids to take responsibility for the fact that they were indeed traveling the park like a group of wild animals and randomly assaulting people walking or jogging the park. No, I don't buy that they were innocent observers. In fact that doesn't even exist when you are talking about this level of violence. I also want to know why these five were chosen out of a pack of teenagers. Why in the world did these kids stick to their story in court when it was obvious they weren't getting the deals they thought during interrogation? Why did the parents not ask for attorneys up front? One father went to work when his 13 year old was being interrogated for rape. Baffling, and the problem is that the documentary is completely uninterested in giving us a full picture. I feel about it the way I feel about most politicians these days. It isn't lying to me, it is being disingenuous by giving us only the facts that serve its purpose.

The Diary of Anne Frank (1959)

A couple of families, and then another man, are Jews who are hiding out from the Nazis in a factory with the help of a couple who work in the office below. It's sort of like the realistic version of the beginning of Inglourious Basterds. I thought there were too many lulls over the course of it's almost 3 hour run-time, otherwise I could've loved it. This is a very good movie with several powerful moments.

A sensational film-noir, and one that really took me by surprise. I knew little about it coming in, so it was a joy to witness such a terrifc picture. The film is lushly photographed, tightly scripted, and wonderfully acted. It's paced perfectly and it always kept me guessing. The rating will inevitably jump up during rewatches. Loved it.

Insidious Chapter 3 (2015)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1b/Insidious_%E2%80%93_Chapter_3_poster.jpg
What a disappointment. This is just not the kind of insidious entertainment I know and love. The previous ones had amazing atmosphere, great use of practical effects, inventive and effective scares and a lot of terrifying fun. There is a reason I put the first two movies in the top 10 of my horror list. They may be a compilation of horror elements and homage, but they are crafted just after my head and they have a great blend of horror and entertainment.
This one had a little of all the above, but a lot of it almost came off as a pathetic parody on itself. First off, the atmosphere is almost gone in this one, where only the last half hour or so can be dubbed slightly acceptable. But really, the script has never been the strong point of the 'Insidious' movies and that's where James Wan used to lift it to a whole other level. But new director Leigh Whannel is no Wan and he should stick to scripting, though it seems this one was rushed by the studio, as was the entire production. The script had many great ideas that was never developed upon, there was a great set that was never used and overall it was a mess with no heart. The first half of the film wasn't even an 'Insidious' film - it looked like any other annoying teen wannabe-horror with loud jump scares, plain characters and no development.
These movies used to be ALL practical, but this one took the easy way a lot of times and used CGI. And gone was the great tense music from 1 and 2, where the 3rd went full-on jump scare noises. Wan always used effective scares, but this had so many jump scares in the first half I became annoyed. There was weird humor thrown in there too, which the previous films where never about. They were terrifying fun not cracking jokes fun. Again, it was almost like a parody on itself. Many of these things made the film lose any kind of tension it might have had and what might have been good came off rather bad.
I'm so disappointed, any horror fan would be able to relate to this. Here's a sequel to a horror(s) you love, respect and appreciate and now things are just kind of ruined. It wasn't downright awful but just really disappointing and generally just not that good...

I was crying in some points, and I can genuinely quote a good 90%+ of the film's script, without a doubt my favourite comedy. It's just so in sync with my sense of humour, as is Bridesmaids. Tonight was a good night

Oh, I'll definitely agree that Alien and Blade Runner are all-time greats, but I'm not so sold on Gladiator and The Martian. For context, these are my current Ridley ratings...

4.5 - Alien
4 - Thelma and Louise
3 - Gladiator, Black Hawk Down
2.5 - Body of Lies, The Martian
2 - Hannibal, The Counselor
1.5 - G.I. Jane, American Gangster, Prometheus

So much for touting Gladiator as a really good film, then. But yeah, I'm due for a re-watch of Alien. It's definitely an excellent film, but I feel like I have to space out my viewings for maximum effect. It may go up to 5 someday, but until then...yeah.

Jurassic World (2015)
revisit
https://latestmovieposters.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/jurassic-world-2015-movie-poster.jpg
I don't understand those who hate this, especially not if you're a fan of the first film. Was we going to get another classic with this one? No way. Was it going to exceed the original? Forget it. But even though it sounds rediculous to expect such things, some people appearently did.
This was never going to be as good as the first, but in my opinion it's the best one since the original and definitely better than the third film. 'Jurassic World' joins the same category as the likes of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and 'Terminator: Genisys', where it creates this updated universe and universally apealing entry to the franchise, which works both as a sequel and a remake. Of course I'm sad there wasn't more animatronics, but honeslty it took me no time to adapt and accept that fact. 'Jurassic World' works as an old concept updated to today's standards and it works wonderfully.
It succeeds in capturing that magical atmosphere, pays homage and delivers something new as well. I saw it in 3D (again) and it is really one of those movies that works as an experience. You are in that park, you are having scary good fun and dinos and dellusional people are all over the place. I love it! And I really do recommend it in 3D, they've done a great job!
Overall, I think people are too nitpicky about this. Just because it couldn't reach their unnaturally high standards or that it weren't made exactly after their head, it can still be a hell of a lot of fun. I can't believe those stupid complains. "Not enough animatronics" I agree, but I still enjoy the movie and some places the CGI is stunning. "Stupid nostalgia scenes" no, I think they worked good and it was a great way to bind the movies together. Just accept you love that they did it instead of complaining. "Why did she run in high heels" When I saw this in IMAX 3D I didn't have time to notice any damn footwear of these characters, I don't give a *****. Stupid indeed, but whatever. "Characters are plain" I'm here to see dinosaurs and they are freaking awesome!

There's not a lot of movies I keep close to heart since childhood, but this is one is definitely one of them. It's been a while since the last time I watched this and I was curious to see if I still felt the same - well, it did!
Amazing script, great acting, brilliant direction and especially a sountrack that is a masterpiece by itself. I don't know why it has so much power over me, but it's really hard not to cry when I listen to this.
I can't say I totally relate to it because I was never in a boarding school but I began singing in a choir when I was 15 and till then I HATED to sing. Thanks to one of the most inspiring persons I've ever met, the choir director, I ended giving up engineering school and becoming an opera singer.
This film resonates inside me on a very deep level and it will always be one of my favourites.

You know, Swan, not all 4.5's have to be artsy fartsy stuff. Out of blockbusters, this one rocks, simple as that.
