Yeah, I cant find it on IMDB but it was shown on BBC Alba. Was really interesting with some great footage. Probably nothing you aren't familiar though.

Badsville (April Mullen): For years, two gangs in the town of Badsville have been at war. When the current Kings leader, Wink, decides to honor his late mother's promise and give up both the "life" and leave town, dissension within his gang via a hotheaded member begins and the rival gang takes advantage by igniting the war again on a whole new level. Solid performances by co-writers Ian McLaren and Benjamin Barrett as the gang leader and the hothead as well as Robert Knepper as the leader of the rival gang, who shows how extreme he is willing to go, even punishing his own son by whipping him with a belt across his back and face!

Kill Order (James Mark): David, a high schooler has constant nightmares where he seems to be in a lab and sees a burning figure. The nightmares become reality when it is revealed he has some sort of power from an experiment he was involved in. Stellar fight scenes choreographed by the director's brother Chris Mark, who also plays lead character David. For a 75-minute sci-fi action film, I think this is one of the best since The Matrix (yes that's saying a lot but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Absolutely true, but I have a feeling, the movie has been perfect since it was released;)
I'm surprised more haven't saw this..
Watched this today, not bad, good performances but overall a bit thin I thought. It was obviously bigger news in the USA than it was here. 6/10.

Noah was big surprise for me. I watched it randomly, but I it engaged me. I didn't expect, the old story has been done with a new form.

Good little film, John Hawkes plays an alcoholic ex-cop who seeks out a way to get his badge back (or just some self-respect) by trying to solve a murder in his old jurisdiction but as a civilian. It's low-key and Hawkes is very watchable in it. Also, Clifton Collins Jr is always a welcome sight in my book. :) A pleasant distraction but kinda derivative of a few films I've seen recently. A strong 7.5/10.

4 hours of politics. This was not a tale of revenge like the other versions, Mizoguchi was more interesting in showing the aspects of honor that comes with revenge. Some really brilliant actors in this movie. If you are a Mise en scène fan, this movie is for you, Mizoguchi's travellings and the aesthetic audacity deserves one hour of standing ovation.

Man, this movie is brutal (violence wise). I was expecting to like Shot Caller (2017) better than Brawl in Cellblock 99 (2017), and from an acting/production stand point, Shot Caller is the better movie, but hell, the brutal pulpiness of Brawl in Cellblock 99 completely won me over. Vince Vaughn's acting is a little stiff, but I think it fits his character. I was a big fan of Bone Tomahawk (2015), and am looking forward to S. Craig Zahler's next movie, Dragged Across Concrete.

The film has nothing to do with the 'oppressed black people Oscar bait' you think it is. The film is meant to be a satire on progressives who claim to be not racist (If I could, I'd vote for Obama for a third term) but end up being more racist than the people they claim to hate.
Whoa. You took this all wrong. If anyone thought Get Out was Oscar bait they don't know what Oscar bait is. Oscar bait is anything Steep decides to be in. Jordan Peele directing a horror flick released in Feburary I wouldn't call Oscar bait.
And I very well get Peele's Obama third term spill. I just think it's becoming increasingly lazy definition of a racist. When you start casting a wide blanket over everyone being racist you don't find the real racists. Remarks like that while being not well realized are not kkk racists as long as racist actions/thoughts are not taking along with those. I'm sure I've stuck my foot in my mouth around some brothers I hope they wouldn't be running around calling me racists, because I'm not.
My whole point is I feel like the race issue was an unnecessary crutch for the movie. It comes off as preachy to me. At the end of the movie there is a character that basically admits that his race doesn't matter. The actress admitted her character is a white supremacists, so why would they want to be in a black body? It goes against their ideology. I think it was cooler if they were just picking any young people for their talent/abilities.
Don't get me wrong, I thought the movie was really well done. I just don't care for the race thing, it hindered it in my eyes. Just my opinion, which is obviously probably the wrong one.

Now that I think about it, racist is a very strong term. People nowadays are using it in very menial situations.

Another "based on a true story" movie in the tradition of The Infiltrator, Blow, and many more set during the 70's or 80's. I'm a sucker for these movies even if hardly any of them live up to their potential. Tom Cruise is a TWA pilot who of course gets involved with the wrong people. I liked Cruise in this, but the supporting cast is mediocre with nobody else making any type of mark. For the majority of the movie, the tone wasn't dark enough. I enjoyed it a good amount even if I didn't think it was that good.

I'm pretty much all over the place with Director Richard Linklater. I love Dazed and Confused, Boyhood, and Everybody Wants Some!!, hate Before Sunrise and Waking Life, and am somewhere in the middle with A Scanner Darkly, School of Rock, and now this. This was a nice movie but I don't see how anything about it stands out. Every single thing about it is just decent. I understand why it's called an "unofficial sequel" to The Last Detail, but I will always think of them as stand alone movies. That is, if I even remember that this movie exists.
Femme Fatale (2002)
Not sure what to make of this seemingly erotic thriller from the erotic thriller maestro Brian De Palma. Starring a deadly gorgeous Rebecca Romijn of X-Men Mystique fame. Simply put its an odd mash of genres. Comparable elements from De Palmas own mission impossible precede a second third reminiscence of the superior Basic Instinct. The head scratching final is......surreal. I am a De Palma fan and this movie is worth seeing if you are a fan as this feels like De Palma however its suspense and intrigue lead to very little. Pleasant enough film to watch once but not something I would revisit
3/5
Edit; I often get Paul Verhoeven and De De Palma confused. The erotic thriller maestro award goes to Verhoeven rather than De Palma.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
(Guy Ritchie)
https://i.imgur.com/1wyBCP4.jpg
2.5
I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I did not hate this movie. Even more so that it was entertaining. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword suffers from biting off more than it could chew, wanting to establish itself as the first of a planned series of "King Arthur" films. In doing so, the film sacrifices some story elements in favour of 'setting up' future events or characters. For this film to truly work it needed to focus on its own thing.
Arthur watches his family be killed in the sacking of his home. He manages to escape and grows up in the streets as an unknown child. His uncle knows he's alive and is testing every person of age several years later, to try and pull the legendary sword from stone. Arthur does this and ignites a battle between a rebellion wanting a better ruler and their king, wanting more power.
Ritchie throws a modern flashy style to this old-time tale. The result isn't a bad as one would expect. To begin any sort of enjoyment from this movie, I immediately had to disregard it as a serious film. If you do that, you get a lot more out of it. One chase sequence comes to mind as a really well choreographed scene that was suspenseful and entertaining. Yet for every fun sequence like that, we have a rushed and poorly edited one to match. For example, Arthur has to go on this epic quest, which sees him battle against giant bats, wolves, and creatures of the night. This journey is told in a quickly and poorly edited montage. This sequence alone could be an entire movie if it wanted to. King Arthur is so busy wanting to be a fast paced film that it misses key moments in story and character.
The cast doesn't do much to inspire confidence. Jude Law is power hungry, willing to sacrifice his own family for more, but we never truly feel the emotional weight this should carry. Maybe this is due to the little to no screen-time we have with these people, so we don't care enough. Hollywood desperately wants to make Charlie Hunnam a thing. I don't 'not' like him, but he does seem to play the same character in every single movie he does. If anyone can tell me the difference between his Arthur, his Jax Teller and whoever he plays in Pacific Rim, that would be much appreciated.
For all its faults and there are many, I did have a smile on my face while watching this. I looked past the bad CGI character fight sequences that looks like it comes straight out of a video game and enjoyed the inane spectacle this film is. Or maybe my standards of enjoyment have just dropped....could go either way.

The Sorrow and the Pity
I liked hearing French people say how the Germans were actually nice, always giving up their seats, etc., instead of the sensationalist stuff.. I also remember those who said "Those French women who dated Germans were dealt with after the war" and other things, such as making money from the chaos.. I especially liked when a group was interviewed, and to hear differing opinions from people who were with the Resistance.

Entanglement (Jason James): After a failed suicide attempt, Ben decides to create a wall of his life, showing different routes he has taken and could take. When he learns he may have a sister, the result of his parents adopting only to give the baby back after learning his mother was pregnant with him, Ben finds his sister Hanna, who introduces him to a world he never imagined. However, things become very strange when Hanna may not appear as she is and it is up to Ben to find out the truth and to why Hanna is helping him. Great performances by lead actors Thomas Middleditch, Jess Weixler, and Diana Bang (as Ben's bestie who has crush on him Tabby) drive the film that ends with quite a shocking twist that all relates to Einstein's theory of "quantum entanglement".
I interviewed director Jason James (https://worldfilmgeek.com/2018/02/06/the-world-of-entanglement-an-interview-with-director-jason-james/) about the film and his take on "quantum entanglement"

God damn.
Twists, turns, makes you question what is or isn't real. Or is it?
Yes.
No.
Erm.
Ok.
Blade Runner is one of the most iconic movies ever made.
There's a lack of memorable quotes, dialogue, scenes.
But, then again, so was the original.
Apart from that the first film had that scene at the end from Rutger Hauer, where he ad libbed some poetry... whereas this film was lacking that special kinda "oomph" scene.
There was also a Pris thing harking back to the original, where one of the characters looked a bit like her in this film.
Other than that, it's up there with the best sequels of all time.
Aliens, Terminator 2, The Godfather 2, The Empire Strikes Back, The Wrath Of Khan, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, The Dark Knight... and now, Blade Runner 2049.
Give it a go.

This is one of those films I always knew existed but never watched. Up until now, that is. By seeing Fox and Penn in the cast and knowing De Palma directed it, I just assumed it was another American war film that, yes, took some risks but ultimately delivered nothing new.
I was rather wrong on that. This was much more emotionally hard-hitting and perturbing than what I initially suspected, and it is certainly not a conventional black-and-white war film. Minus a few, let's say, of-their-time moments of sentimentality and heavy-handedness, this was a stylistically impeccable, dramatically profound film. Penn, in particular, was fantastic, and Fox just felt right for his role.
A great, tragic film. Tarantino calls it the greatest film ever made about the Vietnam war. I actually concur with this. Yes, yes, I even prefer it to Coppola's entry.
A new favourite, this one here.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) is a fine little space horror film. It doesn't quite hit the Sunshine (2007) or Event Horizon(2017) levels of a hidden gem but it's as good as Lockout (2012) or Pandorum (2009). A crew is sent into space to test a science doohicky to give the Earth unlimited power. Things go wrong, people die others show up the ship turns crazy...basically it's a 40 million dollar episode of The Outer Limits.
Chris Dowd, Zhang Ziyi, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw are good...everyone else is pretty terrible, especially Daniel Bruhl and Roger Davis. The movie is like driving car with three working tires and one flat one and that's Bruhl in the A plot and Davis in the B plot.
And the B Plot SUCKS HARD
What I enjoy about Cloverfield is that each of these Sci-Fi films shares it's own universe but also feels like it's own horror film. I'm not thrilled with the plot twist that Abrams loves to go to but the movies are watchable. And I'm very curious to see where this series goes next.

A new favourite, this one here.
One of my favourite ever war films. Always seems to fly under the radar in terms of war film lists. Penn is brilliant.

Amazing! I've never witnessed the creation of a masterpiece, and of course, this film gave me that opportunity. Jacques Rivette puts us in an atelier with the artist and the model (the beautiful Emmanuelle Béart), and makes us witness to the creation, the frustration, the dangers of art. Sometimes, outside of the studio, we see what art brings to the people who live with the artist, and it raises the question "how far to go for art?". This film was released in 1991, and I think it has never been as eficient and actual as it is now, with the current discourses on the boundaries of art (theme lightly touched recently by Ruben Östlund's 'The Square'). For four hours, I was claustrophobic, imprisoned, next to Edouard Frenhofer (Michel Piccoli), witnessing his fears and uncertainties before an artistic blockade. A multi-layered film (literally), the exasperation of the creative process is clearly felt by us who follow this journey. Beautifully directed by Rivette, beautifully acted, a masterpiece!

Villeneuve direction is superb, but there are some things with the Script that just didn't fit well for me, I mean, the movie for me stated its bases on a pure destilation of reality and towards the end of the movie the audience is filled with improbabilities that end up connecting all the dots of the story.

Accident Man (Jesse V. Johnson): The very talented and always working British martial artist and actor Scott Adkins co-wrote, produced, and stars in this adaptation of a 1990's Toxic! comic title about an assassin who makes his hits look like accidents. When the love of his life is murdered, he searches for answers and when he discovers his fellow assassins may be involved, he breaks protocol and goes after them, especially when there is a price of his head.
Adkins showcases both his acting and action skills in the titular role of Mike Fallon. The second act consists of a lenghty flashbkac when we learn how teenage Mike becomes an assassin under the tutelage of Ray Stevenson, who plays assassin handler Big Ray. I see it more of a cooldown before the fun stuff.
Some great fight scenes involving a two-on-one between Adkins against Ray "Darth Maul" Park and Michael Jai White and a stellar fight against Amy Johnston. An enjoyable film, if you like action, then this should be on your list.

The film critic Mark Kermode thought this was the best film of 2017 apparently, so I was very interested in seeing this film and usually end up agreeing with him when it comes to horror style films but I was rather disappointed.
Anyway, the most disturbing thing in the film for me was nothing to do with the main aspect of the film but from one scene at a party where one woman was licking the EYEBALL of the man she was dancing with, wtf. Just no. The hair waxing scene was amusing though. :D

A real surprise here, Gifted offers an engaging look at the lengths one will go for love. Despite a fairly predictable plot, the cast is charming enough to deliver an plesant drama that will have you cheering or grabbing tissues. Maybe both.
Frank is a single man raising his niece, child prodigy Mary. Frank knows her brilliance but wants to shield her from the way society treats prodigies, hopefully he can give her a normal life for a 7 year old girl. Things get complicated when a teacher notices Mary's brilliance and word spreads. Soon Frank's mother comes into the picture and demands that Mary is given the tools needed to explore her brilliance. A nasty custody battle ensues which reveals dark secrets from the family's past that no one really wants to talk about.
Much of the film's success lies with the chemistry that Chris Evans has with his on screen niece, Mckenna Grace. Mary is intelligent, but lacks the social norms a child of her age should have. Her only interactions are with her uncle, their neighbour (Octavia Spencer) and a one eyed cat. Grace manages to portray Mary as completely innocent, fun and wise beyond her years, all rolled into one cute little package. She is a strong anchor for the film and people instantly gravitate towards her. She has a likable spunk to her that sets her apart from other kids.
Chris Evans is mostly known for wearing a shield, but look at his other work and you'll find some earnest performances that may surprise you. He has the charm, the witty humour and looks, but there is so much more to him than that. Here he's a man who is out of his element, yet does what he thinks is the best thing for Mary. Is it the best thing though? Who knows, he has his reasons and uses them as firepower against his mother Lindsay Duncan, who comes in gun blazing for her own agenda. They both want what's best for Mary, they just have completely different views on that. Although, one can argue that the mother has a bit more of selfish reason for her goals, which explode in a sad scene towards the end.
Despite being predictable, Gifted is a heartwarming film that has flown under the radar and I encourage people to give it a chance.

Monsters (2010), rewatch – 8.5/10
I originally watched this on Christmas Day 2016 and I'm sure I rated it but can't find the relevant post. Something tells me I gave it 7/10.
The increase in the rating this time is for various reasons:
I watched it on Blu-ray, so the colour, detail, sound and visual effects were far richer. Not only that, seeing the extras brought home the sheer achievement of making the production by all concerned.
So many things came up that I didn't know or were far more involved than I first thought. The colossal workload in producing the visual effects; the tiny crew that went out to make the film; the mountain to climb that was the editing process; that the actors were improvising and that the supporting characters were not actors; and finally that the leads were in a relationship themselves. I think they did a very good job of disguising that established connection and having the characters' feelings develop throughout.
The only part for which my appreciation didn't become enhanced was Jon Hopkins' music, which is already one of my favourite film scores – it's magical.

Labelled as a crime, horror, romance but thriller/romance is more like it. Not bad but a little slow. A couple pose as brother /sister while the man seduces other women with the intention of robbing them. Unfortunately, the sister half of the equation is a wee bit jealous of some the techniques the brother half uses to get close to the victims and this leads to problems for everybody. Based on the Lonely Hearts Killers which I knew nothing about. This is more a dysfunctional romance story than straight up thriller.

Based on the Jonestown murders/suicides. Found footage movie where a documentary crew gains access to the Eden Parish group and finds out that life isn't quite as idyllic as advertised. If you know anything about Jonestown this is essentially a re-telling of what happened. Not a bad movie but knowing how it was going to end probably took a bit of the suspense out of it for me. If you're into cults and creepy stuff like that you may enjoy this one.

Murmur of the Heart (1971) by Louis Malle
A brilliant coming of age film from nouvelle vague director Louis Malle. Set in Dijon in the context of the colonial war in Vietnam, this is an intriguing insight into the boyhood in a bourgeois family. With incestuous subtexts in the relations between mother and son the film draws on the sexual (in)experience of the teenage son. A far more interesting watch than the recent Boyhood by Linklater, albeit not as magical as The 400 Blows by Truffaut, this is an underseen gem from a director, who is more well known for The Fire Within and Au revoir les enfants.

Really liked the look of this film, it really captured the beauty, harshness and isolation of farm life. This is sort of part of the British tradition of kitchen sink drama but with a rural twist. The way Josh O'Connor manages to convey his character's growth and awakening without saying much at all is remarkable. The soundtrack is excellent and all the more so for being used so sparingly. And it absolutely also convinces as a love story as well.

Giving this a 5 is pretty generous. I thought parts of the second were good. Obviously the first one with Kristen Bell reigns supreme. I got out these sequels what I expected, wasn't watching to find a great cinematic performance but I was entertained. Basically the post apocalyptic world continues and you learn a little bit more behind the psychology behind these "psuedo dead spirits" that pop up anywhere there's wifi. In the third one and also the very end of the second, you see consciousness/purpose in some of the "soul reapers" other than just going around ripping souls out. Also the red suit guy who needs the processor from the second one is in it. He goes a little crazy towards the end. I recommend it.

I've never been a fan of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and I haven't seen James Gandolfini in much, so I didn't have high hopes going into this movie, but the synopsis sounded like my type of movie, so I went into it with an open mind. I loved the way the beginning of their romance felt both awkward, yet somehow also comfortable, and the complications that arose made me really like James Gandolfini's character a lot.
I'm glad I gave this movie a chance because this movie is one of my new favorite rom-coms.

The Scent of Rain and Lightning (Blake Robbins): When Jody learns that the man accused of her parents' murder has been paroled, she sets out to confront him and his son, only to learn he may not have possibly killed them. She begins investigating about what happened all those years ago. Based on a novel by Nancy Pickard, the film juxtaposes present day and flashbacks. Maika Monroe gives a pretty good performance as Jody with Justin Chatwin and Maggie Grace playing her parents in the flashback sequences. Things get tense and there are some twists and turns but the most shocking comes in the finale when the truth is revealed and adds a major wrench in what you may believe.
Final Rating: B+ (and a solid one at that!)

Tristana (1970) by Luis Buñuel
Tristana is a detour from Buñuels more surrealist films and is actually quite straightforward, but thematically it revolves around the same themes as for instance Belle du jour. Its deeply anticlerical and its critique of patriarchy is quite interesting in relation to todays #metoo movement. Thematically it revolves around power and sexual tensions in relations between man and woman and could be seen in the views of Michel Foucault and/or Judith Butler. The ending underlines feminist freedom in the struggle against the patriarch, albeit in an amputated form.

Twin Peaks (1990-1991) by David Lynch
I am not much of a series guy. The only one which truly kept me watching was The Wire, but i am a big David Lynch fan, so i thought i ought to see Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks is an oddball series which consists of many tropes reminiscent of David Lynch's former work Blue Velvet. The series take a change of modus from a crime centered series, but when Laura Paulmers murder is resolved, it changes into a kind of wack and cheesy soap opera only Lynch could make. One of my thoughts after watching this, is that, in a meta perspective, the series itself is kind of a satire on that period's tv shows, albeit an intricate one. Im truly interested in seeing The Return and was quite fascinated by this show, even if i dont think its on par with his best movies.
4+
The Return was my favorite show of all of last year but I already loved the quirks of the original series (on varying degrees of irony). The new episodes do take a more... well, Lynchian route. The creeping sense of dread is turned up, while whole episodes are dedicated to insurmountable visions of “the outside”. There’s a lot (a lot!) of Being There style comedy that turned out divisive if not outright detrimental.

Gifted
I took your advice, and sat down with Gifted last night. Despite my misgivings that the description seemingly had "Trite! PC!" overlaid in blinking neon, we decided to give it 15 minutes. But the narrative and especially the acting drew me right in.
McKenna Grace as the child with genius mathematical gifts was not only darling, but convincing. She's a very natural child actress, and was able to portray a wide range. They almost took her over the top into precociousness, but they pulled up short, avoiding annoyance.
Chris Evans, as her uncle, turned in a surprisingly subtle performance. His character's writing pretty much avoided cliche, and spared us the goo-goo molasses that generally comes with these types of roles.
Lindsay Duncan as the strict grandmother was slightly over-played. But Duncan is a specialist at playing bee-itches, and was able to give the role some depth.
Evidently S.A.G. has made a regulation that Octavia Spencer must be in every Hollywood feature. She does nice work, but her parts are starting to all feel the same.
One drawback was that it's impossible that a 7-year-old, even a genius, could possibly understand and work with the highest level physics of the world's finest physicists. It would have been more believable had they put her into normal university mathematics classes.
That aside, Tom Flynn's original screen play was well put together, mostly avoiding triteness. It's always a pleasure to see a well done film come out with a PG-13 rating.

The synopsis is not one that would make me want to see a movie, but anything can be good if done right and that's the case here. I would even say it was fantastic. The biggest plus for me was actually the setting in Northern Italy. That was one of my best vacations; it is beautiful and the people are awesome. The story in this movie is done in good taste and the performances are very good. I loved the way everything wrapped up at the end. The only reason I didn't completely love it is because I didn't feel anything. Part of me wishes it were a man/woman relationship so I could relate, but of course then it would be a completely different movie.

The one thing I don't like about this review is the last sentence, because I think love is a universal feeling just like any emotion. If it didn't work with you, I don't think changing a gender would fix that. Just my opinion, and don't mean to criticize.
What I do love about your review is how you mention Italy - I think it is just as much a character in the film as any of the humans. It's a beautiful setting and the film is better for it.
Anyway glad you liked it bud.

Zorba The Greek - 7/10
Great beginning, some fine writing, but there's a lot of scenes that seemed incomplete or meaningless.. I would have used more Anthony Quinn, and would have anyone replace Alan Bates.
You might have something there. I enjoyed the film very much when it came out in '64. But I'd been waiting for it since reading the book by Nikos Kazantzakis. The book was actually much better.
Still, there were astounding performances by Lila Kedrova as Madam Hortense, and of course Quinn's wonderful portrayal of Zorba. I too was not fond of Bates, but on the other hand he was supposed to be a weak introverted type. His character pretty much followed the one outlined in the novel.

This is another movie that I watched for the upcoming Directed By Women countdown. It was very strange, but also very entertaining.
I know that this movie is based on the real meeting between Elvis Presley and then President Richard Nixon, but I had no idea that Elvis was such a nut. After watching the movie, I had to look up information about the real meeting because I couldn't believe that some of that stuff really happened, but apparently Elvis really was that crazy. Maybe it was the drugs?
Both Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon are great in this, but I felt that Michael Shannon was miscast as Elvis Presley because Elvis is too well known, and Shannon doesn't look enough like him, but that's not a complaint about his acting, just his look.

Stray Dogs (2013) by Tsai Ming-Liang
This is the third time i have seen Stray Dogs. Two times in the cinema and now at home. In my opinion it is one of the most interesting art movies that has been released in the last years. Reminiscent of structuralist cinema and a social conscious art movies, exploring the lives of a homeless family, this stands out as one of Ming-Liangs best movies. The long takes makes it an intense viewing experience and intimate as well. The long takes explores the distance and relations among human beings on the fringes of society. Two scenes stands out; the cabbage scene (which reminds you of The Wayward Cloud) and the absolutely stunning and depressing finale scene. Tsai Ming-Liang keeps on being one of my favorite arthouse directors working today, with a kind of fictional James Benning approach to cinema.

Los Olvidados (1950) by Luis Buñuel
As a social worker this should supposedly amaze me, albeit the story of the young delinquents living in the slums of Mexico City felt a bit generic and a bottom tier Buñuel film. I would say that i would probably love this a lot more in a younger self, just getting into arthouse, but today i find a lot more of Buñuels film more interesting. Still good though.

I so agree. I watched the first three last week or the week before on late night tv and was really very pleasantly surprised. It amazed me how quickly I was to empathise with him when, since it first screened I've always been of the ignorant belief it was just going to be a badly made movie about, well just about Syd's sweating torso and grunting thoughts to himself. It was anything but! I should never judge a book by it's cover and all that. I missed out on a good cinema experience because of my own stupid stereotyping back then.

I was reading up on her new movie, First They Killed My Father, and that got a warmer reception so I guess she’s getting there. I could’a swore I saw Unbroken at some point but now I’m not so sure. I really like the lead Jack O’Connell, though. Guy’s this close to a real breakout. He’s got a comparable edge to, I don’t know, Tom Hardy or maybe a young Richard Harris.

Like Patriot's Day that I originally gave the same rating, this is a movie that I may have a lack of objectivity with. As a Boston resident, this is a very personal subject. I don't know Jeff Bauman, but I came to feel as though I did. Still, I feel like this was an awfully good movie that has been neglected by many, and I believe Jake Gyllenhall gave an Oscar worthy performance. It's not unusual for me to get emotional during a movie, but it is unusual for it to happen to my wife. We both spent 2 hours in tears. I could go on for pages but it's all been said before. Fun fact that my wife somehow discovered; the actress who plays Jeff's girlfriend shares a Birthday with our precious dog Rudy.

This was my first time watching this infamous movie, and I was a little surprised by how pornographic it was. I wonder if Helen Mirren, Peter O'Toole, and John Gielgud had any regrets for starring in it. Malcolm McDowell too, although he fits perfectly in the title role. I would normally be bored out of my head watching any much more acclaimed 2 1/2 hour historical picture. This was so over the top crazy that I was entertained.
I think Gielgud said he had no idea of the graphic content. Probably a lot of the others too and that’s how they got them to sign in.

Aye, this is a fun one. A grimy, ugly, funny and kinetic throwback. Like an early Michael Mann filtered through Scorsese’s After Hours. Pattinson’s a livewire. Seeing this, I’ll be disappointed if anyone else is cast as Manson in Tarantino’s next movie.

It's certainly one of the more entertaining pornos.
I liked the incest, the forced wine drinking (along with the unique way they relieved a bloated stomach - and it wasn't Alka Seltzer!), the fisting (Caligula's wedding gift to the groom if I remember correctly?) and the big machine that cut heads off (and that's just from seeing it once almost 40 years ago)! ;)

I think I must have either not seen it or blanked it from my memory banks. I dont remember any of that. Seems like a good thing.

Watched Wind River today, thought it was extremely solid. Hadn't heard anything about it till recently, but decided to check it out for my free day today.
A nice slow build up with an excellent payoff.
Don't want to get into too much about it, just definitely recommend it if you enjoy a good mystery thriller.
One of the better movies I've seen this last year.

Yeah I was pretty shocked as well, but it was the same thing that happened to Hell or High Water which was written by the same guy. For some reason Sicario got a lot of attention and praise, rightfully so, but then HoHW and Wind River both had nothing on them even though they were just as solid if not debatably more so. I guess no one really follows writers though, and I am guilty of that too now that I know Wind River has been out since August.

Woody Woodpecker: The film, originally meant for the Brazilian market (the character, known as Pica-Pau, is huge in Brazil), is what i think Furry Vengeance should have been in some way. It has its moments in what you would expect from a family film with gags and lessons learned. I just had to get used to Eric Bauza's voicing Woody. Of course, the late Grace Stafford will always be the greatest Woody voice, Bauza did okay...just had to get used to it.
Final Rating: C
Better Watch Out. A teenage babysitter finds herself having to defend her young charge from home invaders... or does she? Nothing is quite as it appears in this unpredictable 2017 Christmas-themed comic horror that soon takes a very different tack to the one its opening act leads you to expect. Engagingly oddball.
"Non Stop" 2014- Liam Neeson
Very good suspense, good thriller!
Maybe too many special effects in some parts.. but was fine.
Liam Neeson is a very good actor and did a great performance

How do you rate a movie with decimal point? What's your rating system?
How do you rate a movie with decimal point? What's your rating system?
In my profile I rate them out of 100 and then I just transfer it to decimals here because It's easier to read. I normally always give thoughts on what I think of the movies (what I think they did right and vice-versa) and my rating is a subjective number that represents my personal experience, because I think film is all about the experience. And the rating system is very specific, I know, but it just always worked like that for me. I tried the 1-10 scale without any decimals for a while, and I thought it wasn't specific enough for me. Then I tried adding the point 5 scale, but I thought: "What if I think a movie is better than a 9.5 but not quite a 10?". So yeah, that's where it came from, I know it's annoying and too specific, but its what makes the most sense in my head. What about you?
Manhattan - 8/10
Mixed (though generally good) feelings, the rating swung between 7 and 8 before settling on 8. The beautiful B&W photography of New York with Gershwin was perfect. But Allen and Keaton's self-absorbed & egotistical characters became just a little too obnoxious at times, especially Allen (at least Keaton was acting). Plenty of good cracks ("the brain is the most overrated organ"), though also the odd prescient and not so funny ones, "Hey, I'm dating a girl who does homework!"...u-huh. Hemingway seemed wooden, but a young Streep was already charismatic even in a small role. The scenes at the planetarium & the art gallery had great shots.

Hell or High Water did get 4 Oscar nominations including Best Picture. The problem with Wind River is it didn't do well in the festivals, which I somewhat understand.
Sicario also had Dennis Villeneuve as a director who got attention partly because Prisoners didn't get a lot of attention when that came out the year before.
Sheridan is going back to TV to tell a long range mystery series called Yellowstone.

This left me with mixed feelings. Most of the film was really good - I liked the cinematography (Michael Mann's eye for framing is really something at times), the neon-light neo-noir visual style, and the safe opening scenes were great. But then, there are also some questionable moments - the worst offender is, of course, that cheesy slow-mo final showdown set to a corny 80s guitar solo. Ugh. What a disappointing way to end an otherwise great movie.
Still overall I liked it a lot.

This is about a firefighting group in Arizona who fight wildfires. It plays out a little like a real life disaster adventure, but on a realistic scale. For me, it is simple, the movie loses a point for every single thing I dislike about the movie.
For example:
The Last Jedi
- Side quest is boring
- Plot holes
- Snoke death
- Lazy writing
Therefore 6/10.

You have Alexandra Daddario, a gorgeous woman with big assets that "fit" into the Baywatch model and they don't even showcase them. I'm not trying to be some weird guy who lives in his moms basement complaining about the lack of the female anatomy, but it would fit within this world. The main showcase of slow-mo and body ogling goes to Kelly Rohrbach, a model trying to get an acting career going. The third woman in this film is simply a background character when she should have been more prominent given her character role.
The lifeguards have 3 spots open and hold tryouts for some new recruits. Daddrio, Jon Bass and Zac Efron make the cut. So this shaky team now must investigate a drug cartel that is operating on their beach. They run into some push back when they are told they have no jurisdiction to operate the way they do and to go back to saving lives in the water. This is ignored and the investigation continues. Blah blah blah.
A 21 Jump Street style rip-off with similar jokes, look and feel, just more lazy. Crude humour with forced swearing to feel adult despite everything about the film being juvenile. Zac Efron and The Rock have a competitive nature to their characters. One sequence is simply there to show off Efron's insanely defined body. Something for the ladies indeed. Jon Bass is there, not the most fit person and he's the comedic relief (isn't it obvious?). He gets his junk stuck in a wooden lawn chair. Cue laughter.
A lame villain, obvious jokes and padded story makes this film a chore to get through. One scene gets a few laughs if you are comfortable with gross out humour. It involves a dead guy's penis. Hmm, a lot of dick jokes in this one, literally. Two cameos that are painfully bad just makes this film dig even further down the hole. One of those cameos literally says nothing, just walks into the scene. It's a little embarrassing.
Baywatch is a mess, it's not funny nor is the crime story at its core interesting enough to gain traction. Maybe if the film took a more tongue in cheek route it could have had some fun, but this film is nowhere near that excitement level.

My feelings are similar to the director's Dogtooth and The Lobster. I don't quite love these movies, but I have a certain fascination with the style. As far as this one goes, I loved the first half, but then there were parts of the second half when I wondered what the point was. I think the movie would seem silly if it weren't for the superior mood created. It's something different for sure.

So bad I got mad.
Didn't even know there was a remake. I love the original.

It's been too long, I'm putting this on my list. Prime Winona and Slater on display.

Looking Glass (Tim Hunter): Just after seeing him go bat***t crazy in Mom and Dad, Nicolas Cage goes 180 and conveys an emotional performance in this indie thriller as a new motel owner who is caught up in a web of voyeurism and drama when a murder occurs in one of the rooms. Cage works well with the supporting cast, from Robin Tunney as his embittered wife as they both suffer from a tragedy early on; Marc Blucas as the sheriff who questions Cage on numerous occasions and Ernie Lively as a local truck driver with an addiction. Pretty tense drama with some intricate twist and turns. I say this is one of the better Cage films as of late.
Final Rating: B
I did get to interview director Tim Hunter (https://worldfilmgeek.com/2018/02/14/through-a-looking-glass-an-interview-with-director-tim-hunter/) and he has nothing but absolute praise for Cage about his dedication to the role.
I wouldn't say it wasn't my type of humour. I was enjoying it up until the new arrivals landed at Boy's house. Went downhill from there for me. I loved What We Do in The Shadows.
Good to hear that:) Forgive me wrongly assumption, it's because of sense of humour:blush:
