Great movie, made me think a lot, but I don't believe I will remember this one as much as some others.

Glad you liked it, it's my personal favorite film. :)

I possibly want to do a review on this one, so I'll say as little as possible.

Very moving. Quiet, and reserved, with the inevitable creeping on you every second. One of the best of the year, by far.

The Salton Sea starring Val Kilmer. I had always heard about this film but never took the time to watch it. Glad I did. Pretty good little noir/crime drama. Vincent D'Onofrio was great as drug dealer Pooh Bear.

The Wolverine. Giving this one a Rent (based on my website). Nothing really memorable in the movie, but it wasn't a bomb either. Not a bad to movie to watch when you are at home and have nothing to do...like when you are sick.

To be honest... I thought this movie tried too hard to teach us something, and although the actors were great, I just didn't like it. I just thought it was weird, and all of those strange things didn't really mean anything to me. I expected a lot better.

I watched Shadow of a Vampire with Willem Defoe portraying a rendition of Nosferatu. He didn't do too bad of a job, but the movie itself was incredibly tedious and boring. I watched it with a friend, and we both found ourselves earnestly looking at the clock whilst wondering when the movie would end. The idea was interesting, however, what eventually came from it was something messy, incoherent, and silly. I'm surprised that critics seemed to love it the way that they did, but what can I say, everybody has a different opinion. Their opinion just happens to be wrong.

Its a comedy from the creators of Reno 911!

It basically spoofs the haunted house horror movies without actually being "found footage".

The film is very funny from the begining and the movie delivers laughs through most of the movie in spot on times.

I dropped a few stars because i thought some of the characters fell short (dangle and junior from reno should of had more a pressence in the movie)
also i think the end of the film kind of fell flat.

I would recommend the film to anyone.

About a month ago I watched Dr. Strangelove for the first time, and I just didn't get it. After my second viewing not only that I appreciate it a lot more, I also think it's one of Kubrick's best.

For me it's George C. Scott who steals the show as General Turgidson - he's brilliant in pretty much every scene he's in. "Ten to twenty million killed, tops!", he says, as if he was referring to anything but human lives. My favorite line in the movie, by far.

I watched 'Maniac' tonight and really enjoyed it. I thought Elijah Wood was great in it, he played the psychotic character brilliantly well. Its also a very suspenseful gory film. Some of the deaths were just gruesome. A film doesnt have to be over the top with the amount of gore or elaborate deaths like in some other horror/gore films. Sometimes its the simplicity of a man with a knife that is the most scary. I loved everything about this film, from the first person perspective right down to the music. This is going to become a cult classic and rightly so IMO. If you like 'Psycho' like films where the main character is fighting demons and savagely killing people, this film is for you. I highly recommend it.

Drive 9.5/10 It was as good as I remebered it to be artistic, visually stunning and a great character study.

Se7en 9/10 I liked it better than at my 1st viewing. The revealing at the end makes the film and there is a lot of tension.

Say Anything 5/10 Bland, boring, I simply didn't care for it.

Taxi (original french one) 8/10 really good action comedy !

28 Days Later 7/10 It was good, but not more than that. The beggining is horrible it took me 15 minutes to get in the film. The thing I like was that I was always on the edge of my seat because there is always a chance that a zombie would attack

Just watched World Trade Center tonight. It is honestly the only movie that I cried through.

Multiple times.

When you watch this move (Since its a must) if you dont get teary-eyed, your heartless. I understand that most wont watch it because its a very disturbing and controversal topic, but it shows more in depth of what the police officers and their families went through. There are 2 scenes in the movie that in my opinion Need To Be Taken Out! I will explaine further in PM's, no need to spoil.

All in All, i give the movie a 8 out of 10

How does not crying while watching Nicolas Cage try to look sad make me heartless? I think your attachment to the event has led you to ignore many of the fundamental flaws in that film.

Absolute gem of a film. Emotional rollercoaster of a movie. One of my all-time favourite films. Actually, if I had to choose, it'd probably earn a spot in my completely hypothetical top ten list. I agree - it's an absolutely brilliant film and one I could relate to on so many personal levels (honestly, some of the similarities are uncanny). It honestly felt like this film was made for me. I think we've all experienced that before. Tony Kaye did a sublime job. Add to the fact that he was the cinematographer of the film, my respect for the man just grows.

I'll never forget the first time I watched this masterwork. It was, as you eloquently put it, an emotional rollercoaster. Adrien Brody is impeccable and the film has this radical, artistic, avant-garde approach but isn't too inaccessible or indulgent. It's pretty much a perfect film in my eyes.

I'm so glad more people are watching it.

More alive, and less constrained than Clerks. It still retains it's slice of life vibe, but with more cartoonish antics. Does it make it a better watch for me? No, but it was still damn funny, and the cast, especially Jason Lee, can keep up with Smith's fast, dialogue heavy script. Stan Lee throwing out Marvel dick jokes is priceless.

The Pact (2012)

An average horror film with several good scares, that sees a young woman solving a brutal crime with assistance from the murdered victim. Can she survive upon facing the killer? Slightly different from what is represented within the trailer, but remains watchable, especially with all lights turned off.

Young Torless (1966).

I found it particularly impressive from a technical standpoint, but can't say the same about its writing. In spite of having some interesting ideas at its core (mainly corrupt adolescence almost experimenting with authority and dominance, clearly reminiscent of Nazi Germany), the film failed to develop these concepts to their fullest extent.

It felt just a bit too dense - perhaps never having enough time to expand on these notions. Or it was just an example of flawed storytelling. Nevertheless, I thought it had a handful of fantastic moments, but was just a bit too tight-packed and muddled for me to enjoy.

I'll expand on this when I do my usual Movie Tab post, but that might not be for a little while for now. Anyway, last night I saw my first ever Bourne film as it was showing on ITV2, and a film that made the MoFo Millenium list... The Bourne Identity.

One of the better action films I've seen, the film is very enjoyable, it knows what it is and does it very well. The action scenes were all great, none too over the top, and they felt a lot more gritty and realistic than some I have seen. I know some don't, but I like Damon as an actor, and he does well here, there's lots of other enjoyable performances that help make this a strong film such as Brian Cox, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen and Julia Styles.

It appears that the Paul Greengrass' sequels are held in even higher regard by most - especially the third instalment, Ultimatum, which I believe was on the S&S films of the decade list. So I am looking forward to watching them when I can.

Barry Lyndon.

Epic. Coming from someone that is not a fan of period drama's or the like, i had reservations about this to say the least however they did not last long. Brilliant story and superbly shot scenes made this a thoroughly enjoyable watch and in no way did it feel like it lasted 3hours. Ive trying to get through more Kubrick as ive not watched enough.
Id probably rank those i have seen:-
1. Dr Strangelove
2. 2001
3. The Shining
4. Barry Lyndon
5. A Clockwork Orange
6. Full Metal Jacket

Much better then the remake - the original has more shock factor, especially for 1960s audiences who were seeing more of Hollywood's darker side with other releases like Lady In a Cage and Hush Hush, Sweet Charlotte.

Yeah, I'm a Sandler fan. :p From Click and Just Go With It, to Punch-Drunk Love and Funny People, I think he's just a good performer. He always means well, and this just adds to the list of films he's been in that really shows off his dramatic talents, and he makes a really good pair with Don Cheadle. Great, frequently funny movie about two friends reconnecting, grief, and overcoming it, etc.

I watched Dark Man, it from director Sam Raimi, who can be credited for the original Spider-Man trilogy, Evil Dead, and Oz. While watching the movie, I couldn't help but have flashbacks to my experiences with the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies, in the movies cinematography, pacing, and outlandishness. The movie had a very "kiddy" feel that wasn't complimented very well by the cussing and murder to be found in the movie. The movie was entertaining but seemed a little too distant for you to connect with Liam Neeson's character on an emotional level. I'd say that it's a movie that is neither great nor terrible. 6.3/10.0

Bad Teacher

Not a bad comedy but I would question its re-watch ability, the story overall story is a bit dull but the cast is pretty good (excluding Justin Timberlake). Cameron Diaz does a pretty good job of being a b**** but she become likable in the end sort of anti-hero. Jason Segel is good and is just always one of those likable characters. I probably would only watch this again once but not bad overall.

I've always really liked the concept of the movie a lot, but I never took time out to watch it because I already knew the entire story. I took advantage of my "spare time" and I enjoyed it. Al Pacino did very well in his role, and I enjoyed a lot about the movie. There were problems in-terms of pacing, believability, and I think some of the "dramatic" music could've been left out, but other-wise very good flick.

The third movie in my Hospital-outings is Disney's Up. The movie was very depressing to say the least. One of those movies that makes you feel bad and think about getting older, and losing your loved ones. I hate feeling that, but the movie was very well done. A creative idea and witty characters and humor. Some of the sentiments were a little predictable, I called a lot of it while I was watching, but that doesn't make it bad. Something doesn't need to be unpredictable to be great.

I won't lie and say that I went into this movie expecting anything special, in-reality, I saw it on Netflix about a month ago, and thought it looked interesting. Also, I saw Brad Dourif's name and was interested. (He does the voice of Chucky for those that don't know) Still, I hadn't had plans to watch it until I forgot my "special" download of Wall.E on the computer while I was at the hospital. My mom was with me, and we needed something to watch. The movie wasn't anything too special at all whatsoever, but it had a unique idea in it, very ambitious compared to a lot of run-of-the-mill independent horror-movies. 5.4/10.0

I finished wrapped up the first Godfather movie. The movie is critically acclaimed and regarded as one of the greatest movies of all-time, but that is for its uncanny realism brought about by its slow-pace. So, in my opinion, what makes it great is also the movie's biggest flaw because the pace is way too flow, and it's not because the movie has a lot to say but because the movie wants to speak its mind very slowly. The acting was great, but the story itself seems messy. Al Pacino's character is supposed to switch from a guy against the Mafia to a ruthless leader, but it doesn't feel like that. He changes like the snap of a finger, and the "transformation" happened to easily. I think that the pacing of the movie also hurt the plotline of the five-families killing one another because they happened so far apart. I'll write a longer review and make a video for it later.

Lucas

@McConnaughay I respect your criticisms of the film but I respectfuly disagree. Michael Corleone's transformation is as complete as any movie can get. I noticed that your favorite film is The Dark Knight and that film has the transformation of Harvey Dent from good guy to bad guy. In my opinion that's the weakest part of that film and his transformation happens way to suddenly and with almost 0 development. Yet the movie is still fantastic. All i'm saying is that in film format, a transformation can't be as fleshed out as say in a TV series like Breaking Bad.

Honestly, I think that the transformation is horrible for both Harvey Dent and Mikey respectively. Luckily, The Dark Knight had commendable performances through and through, and I think that Harvey Dent's character ultimately prospered because of the importance pressed upon him. They made him seem very important, and genuinely good. However, I think there was more reason for Harvey to snap. The only thing that really bothered me is why he targeted Batman. As for Breaking Bad, that's an amazing transformation, it can never be matched with a movie, but The Godfather had three-hours and got nowhere close. I thought the movie was good, but not great, and it wasn't even Al Pacino's best gangster flick.

I thought they were pretty similar, I can't really decide which was better. The Big Sleep was more complex and mysterious with plenty of twists and turns, where as The Maltese Falcon was less confusing but more reliant on Bogart and Astor I felt. Like I said though, In a Lonely Place is totally different altogether, it's setting is a murder mystery but what makes it more interesting is the fantastic romance at heart, the human study and relationship between Bogart and Graham, who both give fantastic performances :)

I watched From Hell starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham, and honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed a lot about the movie. There was an undeniable chemistry between the two that I really enjoyed. Although, Johnny Depp has this way of making every one of his characters seem unique and different, this being no different. I think a lot of the reason that I liked the movie is because of how intrigued I am by the Jack the Ripper story, and how happy I was to finally discover this movie. The fact that it has my favorite actor, and one of my favorite actresses was a pleasant surprise as well.

Ultimately, I think you could mostly compare the movie to David Fincher's Zodiac, which also follows around a detective searching for a murderer albeit at a different setting and time. Zodiac was a long two-hour movie that had a medium-speed pace, and the same can be said about From Hell. There were some problems like, for example

*spoilers*

They actually put a face and idea to Jack the Ripper, whereas a lot of the mystique about the character is the fact that he was never caught, similar to The Zodiac. At the same time, I prefer this ending to a "Jack the Ripper was never caught" text going over the screen like they did with Zodiac.

*spoilers end*

Overall, very good movie, maybe not a great, but very good. 7.9/10

Malick's film is narrative in a very unconventional way. Compared to his contemporaries in America, his films are more like radical montages than narrative cinema. I can't understand someone saying that it lacks enough traditional narrative hooks to provide a solid enough standing to understand the narrative scene by scene at least the first time through, but it certainly is not slow. Malick's flurried editing doesn't dissect a scene like modern American film, but rather roves in and out of time and moments. Almost every cut, which is fairly rapid in comparison to the modern trend in art cinema, reveals something new about the film's characters. I think that The Tree of Life and its under appreciated, and perhaps even more dense successor To the Wonder, are some of the most dense works of cinema. With the amount of information presented onscreen, it can't really be considered slow.

I don't know what to think. The movie made me cry, I was really emotionally invested in it, but when I think about it i can't agree with the main character and his will to die. So I can't really rate it, but it was a really interesting experience to watch

Tonight I watched 2011 Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai. Now I find out it's a remake of a 1962 movie. And considering how much I liked this one, I'm thinking I might be checking out the original out one of these days.

Honestly, I've never watched a samurai flick before, the impression I had was that it's an exploitation genre. I'm guessing I just watched a good one, 'cause this wasn't it. Which makes me want to check some more of these out. I just have no point of reference to review this. I can only say I seriously liked it. I was really caught up with the story, which is in it's for the most part nice and quiet; the main actor was great; and that one big final fight was badass. It was kind of gorgeous.

Absolutely, and that makes sense especially with something like Harakiri. Kobayashi's is a taut, visual masterpiece and functions especially well in the context of the loss of World War II and Japan's use of kamikaze attacks in a way that Miike's lacks and could never acquire. It's a perfect subversion of the samurai picture that imposes modern day views and philosophy onto Edo period Japan.

I watched Yobi: The Five Tailed Fox, Perfect Blue, Origins: Spirits of the Past, and Yes-Man.

Perfect Blue didn't really bring anything whatsoever to the table except for an intriguing idea, but it could have been done better. Other-wise, it was very bland. Origins also had an intriguing idea, but more than anything, the animation in this movie has to be some of the best that I have ever seen in an anime. Everything looked absolutely amazing, but the story didn't have enough depth to really reach out. Yobi felt a little allover the place and even felt like it kind-of dragged, but had more heart than the other two movies. As for the non-Anime movie, Yes Man, it was funny, as most Jim Carey movies succeed at being, and I always enjoy seeing Zooey Deschanel. I liked it for what it was, which was a same-old, same-old Jim Carey movie.

Perfect Blue: 4.0/10.0
Yobi: 6.0/10.0
Origins: 6.2/10.0
Yes Man: 6.3/10.0

Suspiria.

Now, this was not just any normal watch of a movie. This was showing at my local theatre with the added influence of Claudio Simonetti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudio_Simonetti) and his band playing the score underneath the screen!! As far as im aware he was part of the band Goblin who worked with the like of Argento and Romero on the set of their films. An absolutely fantastic experience and it really felt like i was part of the film. Definately my favourite Argento film that i have watched so far and certainly his scariest.

I believe that this film is generally ill-received. There was pretty much nothing I liked about it, but that's just me. I worked on & edited a feature film for a friend by which I'd say the same. "Get out of your head!" Remember, there's the audience. That's all.

SILVER STREAK (1976): In the mid-Seventies, Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor (Hollywood's last great comedy team) made this funny, thrill-packed homage to Hitchcock. The celebrated duo would make a total of four films together (five if you count Pryor's writing credit on BLAZING SADDLES), but this is their best. (Out of four: ****)

My favourite Eric Rohmer film, and Eric Rohmer is one of my most favourite directors. It felt like reading Plato's The Republic, with the discussions being somewhat like Dostoyevsky IMO - but all around a psycho-sexual theme which I loved. I loved the simplicity and power of it all. I stayed hooked to the film just by listening to the dialogue alone. It's definitely up there with Belle de Jour.

This is probably one of my favourite Tim Burton movies and it really reminds me of some of his great movies, Edward Scissorhands, Bettlejuice and the Batman movies. I've just Wind Chill for the fifth time and still find it atmospheric and pulse pounding, especially when gorgeous Emily Blunt appears on screen. As always, the same four-star rating.

Was a fun watch. Was fed up with my Eddie Murphy spree, needed a change.

Wild Stawberries- 7.2/10. I'm not going to lie i've only seen two films by Ingmar Bergman, this and The Seventh Seal and they both leave me rather cold. They're not bad films, but they're so painfully dull. Just my opinion. It was a chore watching both of these movies for some reason. I don't know if I want to watch any more of his movies tbh.

Try Persona and Fanny and Alexander, these two are much more aggressive and entertaining.

If you actually consider his reactions to the first two movies, it's unlikely he'll think any differently about Persona. Fanny and Alexander is a different story though.

Persona is a very different film from the Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries.

Enjoyed it more than the first film, really great story with lots of twists and turns that seemed to grab my interest more. Will expand when I complete trilogy and do Movie Tab post.

Harold and Maude - 7/10

Good movie, a little too morbid for me though even if it is a comedy.

http://i40.tinypic.com/adjf41.jpg

City Lights - 9.5/10

My first Chaplin and i thought it was great, it managed to be both funny and heartwarming. The boxing scene was genius. Looking forward to watching some of his other films, starting with Modern Times.

The concept of the movie and plot is unique. But the movie is a bit dull. I watched it around 6 years ago, so i hardly remember any details about it! :)

The cover looked bazaar enough, but it was my friend that wanted to watch it. It wasn't very good, wasn't suspenseful, characters weren't well-done, and it didn't even have the "More Violence Than Hostel and Saw" content that was written on the case. Basically, it's a same old, same old for horror, but in sub-titles for me to read.

Suspiria. Pretty darn good, very creepy and with wonderful sound design. It's not the best plot but I feel as far as Horror films go i really like this one. I give it a 7.8/10. It's a classic.

Gangster Squad

Not a bad film very cliché story, seemed like it got the Hollywood treatment for a true story (or based on one anyway). Acting was pretty good and I think they were all correctly cast. One thing I really did enjoy was the toughness/violence they added to this film reminded me or Scorsese's use of violence in his gangster movies. Overall not bad, I would watch it again.

I went to the movies and watches The Mortal Instruments, an adaptation of the book of the same name, and I had absolutely no idea what to expect going in. I hadn't heard anything about this movie, I hadn't seen the trailers, and I hadn't even read the book. I went because it was offered, and I enjoy watching movies, so there's that. The movie has ravishing scenery, but that's about all that it has. The acting is terrible, and honestly, it comes off as a rip-off of Twilight of all things. It dragged for too long, and it came off as a mess. After the movie, my older brother told me all of the differences between the book and the movie. There were a lot of them, and he said a lot of what made him enjoy the book was taken out of him. He gave it a 50%, but I'm giving it a 3.0/10.0.

We had fun watching it, but it was a bad movie.

Craig Robinson as the antichrist. What more can I say? He's the biggest highlight of the movie, and his blunt vulgarity always gets a laugh. The big reveal on who is God is terrific too, and the fight between the two is great. Another fine, light apocalypse comedy.

Another film from Haneke that hits you way hard. This one doesn't toy around with me as much as something like Funny Games, and the only film that could be characterized in his library as bittersweet for me. There's not one thing I dislike about this movie, it's handled extremely well, and the two main performances are perfect. On of the best movies I've watched in a while.

Ironically enough, the books actually started off as Harry Potter fanfiction. At least that's what I heard. I think I would have preferred a rip off of a mildly successful line of movies, rather than one that takes off a horrible film "saga".

That wouldn't surprise me, but that's from seeing the movie, and my brother actually says that he likes the books. I hadn't looked up reviews until now, it has a seventeen percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and a lot of people have been saying the same thing. I'd like to think I wouldn't have gone other-wise, but I know I would have went to see Twilight if somebody would have offered it. I just love the experience.

Star Trek: Into Darkness http://www.movieforums.com/images/popcorn/5box.gif. Now as a loyal, lifetime trekker I was mortified when I saw the last Star Trek film, as were a lot of other trekkers, not just because of the implausible timeline alterations, it just didn't feel like Star Trek. So when I watched this new film I told myself - "this not a Star Trek film, its just another sci-fi film" - and as a sci-fi film it is brilliant.:)

Every time I watch this, I have a good time. You could literally cut out all the action/violence in it, and the dialogue alone would be enough to entertain me throughout. Great actors, characters, director, soundtrack, visuals, theme, writing, and style equals Pulp Fiction.
