Feel like you couldn't make this in today's climate.
Must be a lack of artistic integrity. I think if "god" gave directors 8% freedom, they'd still only use 3%.

La Collectionneuse (Eric Rohmer, 1967)
A charming film that represents all my favourite aspects from the Nouvelle Vague movement.
It reflects on the power of femmes fatales and how one can aspire to free himself from that attraction. It has tons of interesting dialogues and a very interesting ending! It made me curious to check more by Rohmer.

Climax (2018)
Gaspar Noe is a director who's films I always get excited about just before it starts. Even if the quality of the film itself doesn't stand out, you can be sure it'll stick it your mind for some time. Climax might actually be my favourite of his so far, although I need to see I Stand Alone again. It felt like a psychedelic assault of the senses with violence, drugs, suspense, amazing visuals and a perfect techno score. Its a simple plot and the setting takes place in a dancehall full of some madly talented individuals.

This was interesting. It's kind of a documentary with reenactments. Silent films are a mixed bag for me. Either I get into them right away or I don't get into them at all. Haxan grabbed me right from the start. It goes through the history of witchcraft, witch hunters and how "witches" were tortured to confess and finally then murdered. Some of the fx (no cgi) were very well done. Also had some good music most notably Moonlight Sonata and the song from the Bugs Bunny classic What's Opera Doc?

I may be done with the series. It wasn't a bad movie, has tons of pretty good action sequences (the motorcycle chase was outstanding), it's just that Ethan Hunt... It's like if I had to choose my destroyer ala Ghostbusters, I'd hope the Terminator pops into my head before Ethan Hunt.

1st Re-watch...even better than I remembered...this is an extraordinary piece of filmmaking, one of the most deserving Best Picture and Best Director Oscar winners ever,,,Alejandro G. Iñárritu's screenplay and camera work are like nothing I have ever experienced...he has perfected the art of the steady cam to the point that it challenges Hitchcock and De Palma...and though I have never seen The Theory of Everything, I refuse to believe that Eddie Redmayne was better than Michael Keaton in a performance for which I am at a loss for words, he is absolutely mesmerizing, one of the best lead performances of the decade. Big shout out to Edward Norton for his dazzling performance as an arrogant method actor and Emma Stone, who I also think was robbed of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar...her Oscar for La La Land had to be a consolation prize for losing here, she has never been better. Upping my original rating.

I think Depp is in his pomp in this as Jo Pistone. Pacino is also "flawless" (not a fugazi in *any* way :) ). The supporting turns from Michael Madsen and Bruno Kirby are excellent. The short and unhappy life on top of the street boss is well portrayed. Again, Depp is so watchable that every scene is a masterclass....the "Forget about it" one was very funny and not trite.

5th Re-watch...the most underrated film on Robert Zemeckis' resume...this scorching and macabre black comedy sizzles from opening to closing credits...Zemeckis' respect for the brilliant screenplay is unparalleled and Meryl Streep's dazzling tour-de-force performance should have earned her an Oscar nomination. The film did win an Oscar for Outstanding Visual Effects, not the kind of effects one would normally associate with this category, but once you see it, you'll realize the Academy got that one right. A winner.

'Involuntary' (2008)
Directed by Ruben Ostlund
https://i.imgur.com/rOYbu0j.gif
Where to start. Awkward social situations, gender roles, dilemmas. Ostlund explores these and more in his films and really is a master at dissecting human behavioural traits. It's called 'Involuntary' because Ostlund looks at what decisions are made because we feel we should make them and which decisions we don't make....and ultimately why. There is suggestive camera work and themes that make us wonder if we'd own up to our own errors, however innocuous, or not.
The Groundwork for 'Force Majeure' and 'The Square' is all here. Ostlund is one of the most thought provoking directors working today.
Also a guy shoves a Swedish flagpole up his mate's arse, so there's that.

I agree. Nixon was a fascinating guy. He did get us out of Vietnam; he opened up China to the West; and he was a master at foreign relations. He was pretty bad on domestic stuff. I think he really wasn't that interested. But the worst thing he did was to completely sever us from the gold standard.
I enjoyed the documentary. There was no new territory, and it was the typical "tsk, tsk" anti Nixon stuff; but it was interesting to see all the Super 8 candid footage of him and his colleagues.

I saw a little of Journeyman the other day – I'm talking minutes – and I didn't think it looked particularly well filmed. That's something I didn't find with Paddy Considine's earlier film Tyrannosaur but maybe there was more of an overt documentary-like look to that film whereas this one couldn't make its mind up.

Probably not a very good movie and more likely I've just turned into a weird dog guy. It was cute and there's some good things about it. My dogs liked it a lot. One thing that seemed weird to me was that there were some cgi animals. Some were done well but some were very noticeable. Also very noticeable was the filmmaker's attempt to bring a racially diverse cast and also throw in a token gay couple. It was certainly tasteful but better movies do it much more naturally.

A grimly brilliant journey into the mind and motives of a voyeuristic killer. The calmness and pacing of this are fantastic. Its topped off with a rather dramatic coup de grace.
Apparently this nearly ended Michael Powells career as a director. It's certainly very daring considering the social mores of the time.

Yeah this was a fine film but clearly a propaganda piece that attempts to be something for everyone, the multiracial was less of an issue than the Vet subplots. Actually I got two good recommendations for you

The Professor and the Madman (2019)
This is a serious film about a subject which, while fascinating, tends to be dry. It will not appeal to action film lovers, but many will find it interesting and absorbing. I did. The critics panned it, while the audiences liked it.
For 20 years Mel Gibson had owned the rights to the book by Simon Winchester on which the film was based: The Surgeon of Crowthorne: A Tale of Murder, Madness and the Love of Words. It's film development started in 2016, eventually featuring Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, Eddie Marsan, Natalie Dormer, and Steve Coogan. It was directed by Farhad Safinia (as P.B. Sherman).
The central story concerns the Scot Scholar, Sir James Murray (Mel Gibson), who in 1879 took on the gargantuan task of chronicling each and every word in the English language into what is known since as the Oxford English Dictionary. The initial project ended up taking 10 years, and the final 12 volume set was not completed until 1928.
But the main focus of the film is on the assistance to the project by Dr. W.C. Minor (Sean Penn), a physician and scholar, who had heard about Murray's call for help, and had independently created 10,000 word usages which were eventually sent to Murray.
Murray went to visit Minor during Minor's residence at Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, which formed a large chunk of the story. A parallel story was Minor's relationship with the widow (Natalie Dormer) of a man he had mistakenly shot dead during a schizophrenic episode.
The outstanding performance was from Sean Penn in a role whose breadth must have been impossible for Penn to turn down. In fact his assent for the role may have guaranteed funding. He will certainly get an Oscar nomination, and along with the benefit of his SJ cred, might just snap off the award.
There wasn't a weak portrayal in the cast. Gibson was believable with his Scot accent, and had the requisite gravitas to carry the main character. Dormer was first rate as the widow. Eddie Marsan and Steve Coogan were flawless in their roles.
There was some cinematic license taken with the real life story, but in the main the production gave a fair historical representation. Even Minor's self mutilation was truthful, so the sanguinary among you have something for which to look forward.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) - First Time on Blu-ray rating_5
Okay, so, I saw Tony Scott's 2009 remake when I was 12 years old. It may have had a cast headlined by Denzel Washington and John Travolta, but for my money, it was a piece of crap. I was always interested in seeing if Joseph Sargent's original was any better and when I ran across the Blu-ray in Dollar General, it was a golden opportunity. After eight and a half years of wondering, I've finally seen Pelham One Two Three and it mops the floor with Pelham 1 2 3 in every possible way. The acting is miles better in Sargent's film, though that has at least part to do with the fact that the late great Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw, both of whom I've always been a fan of, and all the rest, have a much better script to work with. Matthau was one of the greatest for sure and he's at the top of his game here as Lt. Zachary Garber, the cop who has to negotiate with this band of psychos - one of whom, portrayed by Hector Elizondo, is a bigot. So too was Shaw, who is also in top form here as Mr. Blue, the leader of the gang, a cold and calculating man who is far more menacing than the character Travolta played in the remake. Credit also has to go to David Shire's excellent musical score, which, unsurprisingly, kicks the ass at Harry Gregson-Williams' effort on the remake. All things considered, Pelham One Two Three is a great thrill ride and if you're interested in this story, the original is where it's at for sure. Let me be perfectly clear: skip the remake; this is the one to watch.

Hasn't edged a bit since 1975, riveting as ever...this was # 1 on my list of favorite Al Pacino performances, he has never been better. If this film had been released another year, it would have won Best Picture, Director, and Actor, but Cuckoo's Nest was winning everything in '75 though Frank Pierson's screenplay did earn a statue.

It's the cinematic equivalent of a hot fudge sundae, but there are three performances in this film that give it enormous re-watch appeal...Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt provide flawless support to the incredible Meryl Streep who commands the screen as lady editor/dragon lady Miranda Priestley...the actress demands attention from the viewer with a performance where she never raises her voice above a stage whisper...this is a performance that acting students should study, there are no words...

It's starting to creak a little around the edges, but Hal Ashby's stinging sexual satire is still sexy and stylish with Warren Beatty at his most appealing and Lee Grant's Oscar winning performance still holds up, as do the performances of Julie Christie and Jack Warden. Leto (Summer): If you like the recent music biopics Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, then this is one you may want to see. This is the story of 19-year old Viktor Tsoi (1962-1990), who helped pioneer a rock music revolution in the now former Soviet Union in 1981 Leningrad. The story is based on both the writers' teenage ordeals with listening to Tsoi's band Kino and the memoirs of Natalia Naumenko, who is a vital part of the film along with her husband Mike, who took the young Viktor under his wing. Has striking visuals and more. A great film!

Not as good as Heat but it's that kind of crime thriller. It's a full 2 1/2 hours that takes it's sweet ass time with positive results. Plenty of tension with exciting and realistic action when it comes. The whole cast is good, even Vince Vaughn who probably does as well as he can in a dramatic role. I could have used more Don Johnson.

Solid adaptation of Bukowski novel with Matt Dillon a great choice to play character Henry Chinaski. If you know anything about Bukowski then you'll know what you are getting yourself into. Not as harsh as Schroeder's Barfly but still contains a level of grittiness. Lili Taylor and Marisa Tomei both strong additions.

1st Re-watch...Director/choreographer Rob Marshall definitely gets an "A" for effort for taking on a seemingly impossible task of bringing this ambitious Broadway musical to the screen. This musical version of the Fellini classic 8 1/2 was a Broadway smash and just like Marshall's previous triumph Chicago, probably should have stayed onstage. Marshall legitimized the theatricality of Chicago by making the entire story Roxie's dream, but there is no attempt at legitimizing the theatricality of the piece here. This story of a famed film director named Guido Contini beginning his new film without a script and examining his life through the various females in his life is brought to the screen with its theatrical origins intact which makes the movie look like a photographed play that never quite gels as a movie. Aided by lavish visual trappings and some serious star power, Marshall brings musical theater to the screen with no attempt to make it a true movie musical. The cast does provide some genuine entertainment...Judi Dench is superb as Guido's costume designer as is her number "Folies Bergere" and Marian Cotillard is superb as Guido's wife, commanding the screen with her song"My Husband makes Movies" and Penelope Cruz' Oscar-nominated performance as Guido's clingy mistress is wonderful...this is the first time I've experienced Penelope Cruz onscreen and didn't want to drive a big ol' spike through her forehead. Marshall's Fosse-influenced choreography is a bug plus as well, but this movie is really for lovers of theater, not movie musicals. 3

Factotum (2005) — Solid adaptation of Bukowski novel with Matt Dillon a great choice to play character Henry Chinaski. If you know anything about Bukowski then you'll know what you are getting yourself into. Not as harsh as Schroeder's Barfly but still contains a level of grittiness. Lili Taylor and Marisa Tomei both strong additions.
I thought Schroeder's Barfly was wonderfully poetic and romanticized. If you are going for grit, I think you need to watch Ferreri’s Tales of Ordinary Madness.

Climax. 2/10. I think I hated it... I did not find the technique or dancing very impressive, I didn't find the movie entertaining, or engaging in any way, I was mostly bothered or bored by it. I think I just prefer movies with story, characters, structure, development. Opening shot was amazing though.

Heavy hitting, and I think that is its weakness. It seems as if this was purposefully done in the writing, and I cannot tell if it adds anything to the experience. Vince Vaughn is a standout:

Blade Trinity (2004)
1/10, Ryan Reynolds kept trying to play himself/Deadpool in the film and felt out of place, Wesley Snipes was not great and did not do the fight choreography, they killed Kris Kristofferson off too early, David S. Goyer messed the whole film up and wasn't restrained like the first 2 (the 1 is only because the opening chase scene is pretty cool up to the decoy part, which doesn't make sense because he has killed quite a few familiars).

Watched it 1.5 times yesterday it was that good. That and I wasn't really paying attention when it started (bad idea) and when it ended I knew I had missed something important so I started watching it again until I felt up to speed. I did indeed miss something - the entire reason for the movie. Oates (Sgt. Hulka in Stripes) is fantastic and watching a young Jack as a bad dude is always fun.

My re-watches on this one are well into double digits so a lot of the scares have worn off, but this movie is so well made there's still so much about the film that fascinates me and still love to discuss. This movie put a lot of people on the map, especially Brian DePalma whose direction is just masterful...I love the way he allows this story to unfold so slowly, but there are little things that nag at me every time I watch...I will never understand why Tommy (William Katt) and Miss Collins (Betty Buckley) had to die. I have always been a little fuzzy regarding Sue's motives for having Tommy take Carrie to the prom...were they pure? Did she know that Chris (Nancy Allen) was planning something? Speaking of which, I can't believe I left Chris Harginson off my favorite villains list...the lengths that this girl goes to in order to gain revenge on Carrie are unspeakable...this character is pure evil. I also love the underlying sadness to the story evidenced by something very real and very special that happens between Tommy and Carrie when they're sitting at that table at the prom, made even sadder when you know what's going to happen. I also loved the lengths that Tommy goes to in order to get Carrie to say yes. Katt's performance in this film is severely underrated. Sissy Spacek is a revelation in the title role that deservedly made her a star and every move Piper Laurie made in this movie as Margaret White sent a chill down my spine. Most horror movies don't have a lot of re-watch appeal, but the re-watch appeal of this film is limitless.

Biographical film about the "action" painter Jackson Pollock. Ed Harris is mesmerising as the self-destructive artist. Ably helped by his supporting cast it paints a picture of a neurotic, unhappy and unfulfilled man who had a problem with not just the art world but the world in general. Great, informative viewing.

Ralph Breaks The Internet - 2018
I really sort of enjoyed the first one. Saw it was on Netflix so I checked it out. It was ok at best. Some things work somethings didn't. First off it felt like a big commercial for everything. Cut it some.slack because it's a movie about the internet I suppose. But the main story is about Ralph being to clingy to the girl from the first movie. I just think focusing the movie on these two while the main conflict was Ralph was too clingy just creeped me out too much. I know it doesn't mean to but it just gives off a pedophile vibe the whole time. I think that's my main issue with the film. Their relationship creeps me out, makes the rest sort of not work to me.
Another thing that bothered me is all the Disney princesses with their feminist schtick. THIS IS RUINING MOVIES/ENTERTAINMENT. Stop slapping me in the face with this obvious feminist propaganda scenes/whole movies. The princesses scenes are just shameless feminist scenes. Batman, James Bond, Iron Man are cool heros because they show us. Just show us you are a badass charcter instead of telling us sarcastically twice "A big strong man needs saved". It makes me cringe. Think Batman would go "Look a beautiful blonde needs saved" before he did it? He just does it. Anyways.
Just wasn't up to par of the first. Being in the internet gag can just go so far.

A brilliant coming of age/gang film from Kauffman with an outstanding soundtrack. Has so much to offer in sex, violence, comedy, tragedy, all set against a backdrop of the Bronx in the 1960s. Almost feels like The Warriors and American Graffiti mixed together, without the cars.

Every so often I revisit The Yakuza (1974). It's ultimately a movie that doesn't live up to its pedigree - you have Sydney Pollack directing, the first screenplay written by Paul Schrader (who also wrote an amazing primer (http://www.paulschrader.org/articles/pdf/1974-FCYakuza.pdf) for the genre upon The Yakuza's release), the script was rewritten by Robert Towne (Chinatown), and stars Robert Mitchum and his Asian tough guy counterpart and genre veteran Ken Takakura. Alot of critics beef with The Yakuza is that it's an exploitation movie masquerading as high art. While I really can't blame critics at the time for thinking this, because the amount of Yakuza movies trickling in to Western theaters was stagnant, its become a mantra that is continued to be repeated with modern critics who have the opportunity to look back at the whole genre retrospectively. The problem I have with that line of thought is that is dismisses the ability of the Yakuza genre to be little more than bloody, messy nothingness. Kinji Fukasaku's original Battles Without Honor and Humanity is not only on par with The Godfather in its scope, but also equal to the gritty realism, and less honorable gangsters that Scorsese brought the the American gangster genre with Mean Streets (1974). Sure, there are alot of yakuza film's that are nothing but proto torture porn movies (see Yakuza Law:Lynching), where the plot takes a backseat to the carnage on screen, but that's not what makes up the whole genre. The Yakuza can be both a yakuza film and high art.
That being said, the movie does have its problems. The action scenes are a big problem - Mitchum doesn't move alot in the movie, but that can be justified with him being an old American who just shotguns away his problems (both Robert Redford and Lee Marvin were also considered for that role). Schrader said that Pollack was obsessed with playing off the collision of two distinct cultures, and didn't make the bloody underworld movie that Schrader intended it to be. It's most definitely a slow burn, which is a rare pace for the genre. Looking back, it is almost a checklist of genre tropes and rituals, but I think it's a fine movie for most western audiences to be introduced to the Yakuza for the first time.

Very interesting documentary about the Flat Earther community. They are like a subculture of people who deny basic scientific facts because they believe that it is all a government conspiracy. People who are attracted to this are usually people who are to some degree social outcasts who disdain authority and who lack formal scientific education.
While it is easy to mock this kind of people we have to be aware that we all are to some degree flat earthers in the senses that: We believe in many things through our basic intuition or personal connections instead of actually researching the topic. We are also often dogmatic regarding many beliefs even when presented with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1427892345p4/1501668.jpg
People can't be talked out of illusions. If a person believes that the earth is flat, you can't talk him out of that, he knows that it's flat. He'll go down to the window and see that its obvious, it looks flat. So the only way to convince him that it isn't is to say, "Well let's go and find the edge”

Norman Jewison's imaginative mouting of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rick rock opera loses points for copping out by presenting the story as a troupe of traveling players performing the show, but its rich with striking visual trappings, there's minimal tampering with the score, energetic choreography by Rob Iscove, and Jewison is to be applauded for not casting stars, but casting people who could actually sing these roles, some straight from Broadway, with standout work from the late Carl Anderson as Judas.

Colette (2018)
More like Crapette, another historical story opportunity wasted by a modern director who doesn't know how to do world building, character building, pathos and believable dialogue. This was all spectacle without any narrative that would have brought the dynamic and intriguing woman writer/performer known as Colette to life. What we get is a lifeless story that's more like a bad soap opera, with extra soap and scant little opera.

Nonsensical that (possibly) the most famous female writer in France is played by a British woman who speaks English throughout the movie.I had high hopes for Colette too...I'm quickly losing interest in watching any new movies, just call me Matt! I guess I'll still try to watch some, but I feel I'm wasting my Netflix DVD plan on crap that I couldn't be paid to watch, and yet I'm the one paying to watch it.

I liked The Crow very much. I'm just looking at his filmography and I'm surprised at the meagre amount of films he's directed. Dark City looked good too as I recall. Some of the casting is probably what let down Gods of Egypt.

Psycho-Pass (2015) - First Time on FunimationNow rating_5
I thought the first two seasons of the Psycho-Pass series were frickin' amazing, so it probably goes without saying that I was eager to see how the follow-up movie turned out. It doesn't disappoint. It's every bit of a worthy follow-up to the two seasons that came before it, a natural extension of the story presented there and a great lead-in to the upcoming season three. The animation by the team at Production I.G is stunning. As a result, the gore is every bit as realistic as what came in the first two seasons and those without an iron stomach will probably want to steer clear of Psycho-Pass, both the movie and the series. With that said, the gore is story-appropriate in showing how messed up this world and this system is rather than gore just for the sake of gore. Some thrilling action doesn't hurt, either. The story by Gen Urobuchi and Makoto Fukami is an engrossing one, exploring just how flawed something like the Sibyl system is and what happens when that system is abused. Also, almost nothing is ever as it seems in the Psycho-Pass universe and that holds true here as well, Urobuchi and Fukami throwing the audience plenty of curve balls throughout its 114-minute running time. Like the series, it's also a great detective story, which is one of the things that immediately drew me to the Psycho-Pass universe to begin with. Much like he did for the series, Yugo Kanno gives an excellent musical score. On top of this, Funimation has produced an excellent English dub where much of the cast who dubbed the series has returned. Much like she was in the series, Kate Oxley is excellent as Inspector Akane Tsunemori, the incorruptible detective with a perpetually clear Psycho-Pass (which is interchangeable with crime coefficient in this universe) who flies out to the fictional Southeast Asia Union (SEAUn) to find out what's going on when her former partner is linked to a guerilla movement. So is Robert McCollum as Shinya Kogami, an ex-Enforcer and Akane's former partner whom she and her team allowed to flee Japan in order to escape assassination by the Sibyl system at the end of season one and who is helping to overthrow SEAUn's corrupt government. Josh Grelle, Cherami Leigh, Lindsay Seidel, Z. Charles Bolton, Lydia Mackay, and Mike McFarland are also excellent as Nobuchika Ginoza, Mika Shimotsuki, Yayoi Kunizuki, Sho Hinakawa, Shion Karanomori, and Teppei Sugo, who comprise the rest of Akane's team. Jason Liebrecht is also great as Colonel Nicholas Wong, as is Major Attaway as mercenary Desmond Rutagand, both making for some properly menacing villains. So is everyone else and the dub script is completely natural. All things considered, I really enjoyed Psycho-Pass and I don't have a problem recommending it to anyone who likes a good detective story - with some deeper themes thrown into the blender in this case - and can stomach the violence, although I'd recommend watching the first two seasons first lest someone gets lost while trying to understand the movie. With all that said, I can't wait for season three.

The World Before Your Feet (2018)
This is a unique documentary for its simplicity. Matt Green is chronicled walking the approx. 8000 miles of each and every street in the 5 boroughs of New York City. But, far from dull, it shows how much we miss by spending our lives behind the wheel of a car. Even people living in neighborhoods oftentimes haven't a clue as to what is beyond their beaten paths.
NYC is a mammoth cauldron of fascinating buildings, gardens, parks, shops, and, of course people. During the 6 years Green took to complete the journey, his reports showcase a plethora of these subjects.
The film almost puts the viewer into a Zen type awareness of the things around Matt Green, and by extension, creates interest in ourselves for a similar experience.
Asked why he did this, Green states that he really does not know. But, for the viewer, by the end of the film we might all be able to identify with him.

Scared that their infidelity will be discovered, they give into the blackmailers and things start spiralling out of control.

For the fans of the original I really recomend give this a try, it's oblique and anticlimax! I loved even more!

I didn't liked the acting, story and characters. The film has some interesting scenes (like that one in the bar) but I just think it was very boring for the entire run. They take some liberties in the vampire mitology, thats cool, and the desert scenario was different, but I really think this film has nothing good to add to the "vampire" films at all. All the fights are very boring with some strange edit; some characters dies in very stupid way (I know it's just for fun, but I don't dig it), even the violence was boring (sorry, I know all you guys like this film). This film has a very big cult following, and I can see why, I just don't like of pratcly nothing in this, I know I'm the minority here, but I not even liked the over the top moments! Maybe a rewatch will be a good thing (like it was for John Carpenter's Vampires) but for now, this is it.

I've reviewed this harshly before, wanting more from Mullan. I've changed my tune, I watched in the right mood and saw the development of the protagonists. Conor McCarron is so much better the 2nd time around. Alot rings true as it should (even though I'd be only about 5 at the time the film is set). Where I lived we had the "Peg" and the "Jito". Constant battles.
Mullan has captured this perfectly.

The first time I saw Near Dark I loved it. I thought, wow, a refreshing take on vampires with a lot of throwbacks to the more classical portrayal. Gritty, dark, violent, and yet also very human and relatable. In terms of acting I can't reallyt see any flaws. You didn't like the acting? I would actually be intersted in hearing a little more on this. Why didn't you like the acting, or which actors in particular did you feel had weak performances? I'm more surprised by you, because I thought this would be a movie up your alley based on other stuff you like. Now, I'm not saying it's a masterpiece or anything. The second time I watched this movie I actually got a little bored and ran out of steam. It's not a masterpiece or anything. But one star I feel is extremely unfair. It's at least a half decent movie overall. The story? Okay, that's a little wierd. There is nothing wrong with the story. I challenge you to actually articulate an issue you have with the story. It's a really solid story. The characters, again, I can't see an isssue. It's not that I can't understand someone having high standards and not liking the movie overall, but I really can't see an issue with the story or characters. Every character is distinct, fleshed out, and has personality. You may not like the characters, and maybe that's the issue, but they're not bad characters in quality terms. Nothing good to add to vampire films? But I thought it stood out as really important piece of the vampire mythology. It showed a person overcoming the infection and bringing his lover from a vampire back to human. That's something I've never seen in any other vampire film, but also the culture of the vampires was really cool. It's a contrast to Interview With a Vampire and Dracula in the classic vampire sense as apposed to Underoworld and Twilight modernising whole new approaches. Usually I think you have excellent taste Ultraviolence, that's why I'm surprised you disliked Near Dark so much.

^ There's a directors cut of Payback (1999), I just readed about this cut last friday, I really like the original, even with all of the flaws and I'm not a big fan of the third act, this cut changes the entire third act, and the atmosphere is more sober, more darker (even without the "almost" black & white palet of the original - this is the only thing I whish was in this version). For the fans of the original I really recomend give this a try, it's oblique and anticlimax! I loved even more!
Interesting. I'm also a fan of Payback, so I'll have to check this cut out.

Interesting. I'm also a fan of Payback, so I'll have to check this cut out.

Ant-Man [2015] ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a joyous film. Paul Rudd is great in the lead role and really adds to the fun factor. It has such a strong and interesting premise, and there were some great miniature action sequences. I will make an effort to seek out the next film in the series, Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Not bad. Lost the plot of the plot about a 1/4 of the way in, but that’s not uncommon for me with action movies. Claire Foy very good actress. Much prefer the Swedish versions of these movies.

This movie turns around physiologic & behavior where details are very important. I just saw the movie once, so I'm still trying to connect all the dots, but I'll give my two cents. We have Lee Jong-su, a introvert kid with relationship struggles, first with his own parents, a mother who he didn't see for 15 years, a aggressive father filled with anger. Then we have Shin Hae-mi, a very emotional extrovert, shes trying to find herself, seeks males acceptance and have/had complexes with her body. Then we have Ben a very mysterious rich guy, who have traces of something we might call sociopath, psychopath, someone else's tears intrigue him, something he never had, he laughs faced with someones else's love, he can't focus or find any type of attraction to his friends stories or ideas, he banalizes disasters/destruction/death even the one he creates justifying it with the laws of nature, his nihilistic saying there isn't good or bad, right or wrong. In general this movie approaches different subject, from types of masculinity, different social standards and contrasts between lifestyles. One movie made to be stuck in your brain for days.
This movie have many questions, but we have enough evidences to support the rich guy killed her: the girls watch in Ben's bathroom, the cat responding by being called by name. The scene where Lee Jong-su burns a small piece of the green house is to give the viewers the idea of how fast the plastic would have burned. We now know that Ben was lying saying, it would need gas and ten minutes to burn a entire green house, what would need gas and ten minutes would be Shin Hae-mi body.

Nice independent thriller. It's slow paced but at the same time there's no wasted time so it moves along nicely for it's 85 minutes. It's got the Reservoir Dogs theme of who in our midst did it, but of course it's not like Reservoir Dogs. Good acting and I like the way it played out. A very good watch but not particularly memorable.

This movie, almost 30 years old, based on characters created almost 45 years ago, is still freaking hilarious...the screenplay is nothing short of brilliant with its creation of "Conehead-speak", not to mention some terrific visual effects and a cast which features just about everyone who was making America laugh circa 1990.

My theory on the above...
I thought that at first, but a lot of people have suggested that Ben actually sells pretty girls into trafficking and that's why he was so wealthy and didn't seem to have a job. When his friends come over, he may be showing off his latest girl to sell to them.
However, he probably puts it in a more exciting way to the women themselves, telling them he is going to help them build a new life. They don't realize until it's too late and they are taken away for prostitution or organ trafficking. That's why Shin Hae-mi calls Lee Jong-su at the last minute, when she is being subdued by the kidnappers. Then Ben must have turned off her phone, tidied up her apartment and taken in her cat.
As for the items left in his apartment... it's normal to forget things and leave them behind when you're in relationships. So either Ben has a habit of quietly snatching these items when the girls aren't looking, or he just collects them after he sells the girls, because they would leave some things behind at his place.
