I just can't get into this director's work, seen about four of her films now. A lead character I didn't care for and to top it off nearly three hours long watching an annoying square aspect ratio I can't stand.

I thought I'm the only one, who doesn't see brilliance of this movie. What a relief...

I liked the cinematography, that was about it. Not a bad film it just felt like a whole lot of namedropping and beating us over the head with the fact it was in the 30's and not much else. Wasn't into any of the characters or performances either. It's a shame as i know some think of this as one of Woody's best films in the last decade or so, maybe it is i've not seen most of them i hope not though.

Yeah, I was wondering since couple of Allen's movies, where is his sense of humour, unconventional characters and interesting dialogues? Eisenbergs performance was so woody (nomen omen), that was hard to watch him on the screen.
Midnight in Paris and Blue Jasmine are a wonderful excptions. You should watch it, to save a little bit of a good opinion about last fertileness of Allen.
I'm going to watch Wonder Wheel. It will be played in the end of December in Polish cinemas. I hope It would be good.

Infamous for being one of the most disturbing films ever made, and it is definitely effective at being sickening. A girl gets uncomfortable while making the S and M portion of a porno, so the director knocks her out. Things go from bad to worse real quick. This is the true definition of torture porn, a phrase thrown around too easily, and it is very comparable to The Flowers of Flesh and Blood. I liked it but recommend it to nobody!

Parents. A quiet, withdrawn little boy seems paranoid and obsessed with the idea that his 1950s picture book perfect suburban parents are hiding dark secrets - secrets somehow connected to the endless supply of "leftovers" that end up on his plate at every mealtime. Randy Quaid stars in this seriously bizarre but rather wonderful late 80s darkly comic horror flick that is a true surreal cult gem. Incredibly strange but hypnotically compelling and even genuinely frightening at times.

Pretty much agree with Cob, while it's not one of his best it is a solid enjoyable film. His writing was still on point one of my favourite things about Woody's films is the small forgettable jokes that just hit you from time to time like "Clint Eastwood doesn't play a meek little hairdresser.", just silly kinda witty things like that his new work seems to be almost completely devoid of that which is a shame as his scripts make even his more middling films like this good fun watches. Mira Sorvino is really good, her voice annoyed me at first but she ended up pretty hilarious, likeable too. It was the perfect situation for Woody he always plays an awkward, neurotic so setting him up with a blatant prostitute/pornstar was perfect, his reaction to some things was the best like when she said "my screen name is Judy Cum" Judy Cum? For some reason that's the funniest pornstar name ever to me. Their relationship was good too, this could have easily descended into him mocking her intelligence but for the most part he stayed away from that. Also Paulie Walnuts and Larry Barese  So yeah glad i watched it again, don't think it's one of his best but i enjoyed it.

Café Society (Woody Allen, 2016)
If you've seen any Woody Allen film made in the last 10 years, then you've already seen this one! Cafe Society is the same old rehash that Woody has been telling in one form or another for a long while.

The film is basically a visual representation of Woody Allen's fantasies. Like most of his later films, Woody writes a main character to represent himself in the movie.

This time it's Jesse Eisenberg who plays a caricature of Woody. He does the same stumbling, muttering dialogue, the hunched over stance, while playing a slightly neurotic, babbling young geekish man who just happens to have beautiful women falling all over him....all while ending up in Woody's dream world of the past, the 1930s. A world filled with glamour and jazz. We've seen this film before!

A younger Woody Allen himself was funny in his own movies, but the elderly Woody constantly casting a character in his own likeness has gotten pathetically old hat.

The two saving graces of this film is: Woody does know how to dress and shoot a period piece movie to make it look stunning.

The other grace is Blake Lively (The Age of Adeline). Blake out charms and out classes the rest of the cast, especially the inept Jesse Eisenberg and the milquetoast Kristen Stewart.

I heard master and commander 2 rumoured to be in the pipeline so I thought I'd finally get around to watching the original.

Master & Commander - The far side of the world (2003)

SPOILERS

Loved it, for some reason Russell Crowe always surprises me with his performances. I mean literally everything's he's been in he absolutely smashes and he was just brilliant here too. I say surprises because for some reason he just doesn't ever look like he'll be very good at acting, extremely common looking and uninterested you could say, especially since getting fat around American gangster time which I have to say is a another great movie. Surprised me again here, I don't honestly know who could have played this role better. Strict, stubborn yet empathetic, a perfect captain and someone you'd definitely want on your side. Paul Bettany was great as the doctor, he's always great too to be honest, I liked how the relationship with the two of them developed. If this movie was made in 2017 the doctor would have become so agitated with the captains refusal for him to go find more lizards he probably would have summoned his old friend the lizard king to take him out and have spider-man come along for the ride. Also no boy, girl dynamic here which was refreshing in a way, something I didn't even pickup on until I wrote this, almost every movie ever made blatantly or even subtly has a boy, girl storyline running through it, not here. 4.5

Deconstructing Harry

https://i.imgur.com/B10EnWQ.jpg

Damn, three Woody Allen films in one day! This was alright, it felt a little scatterbrained to me it kind of exhausted me guess that's at least partially due to watching three of his films, and it wasn't all that funny. With what has came out in recent years (even if you don't believe the sexual abuse there's still Soon-Yi) all the seducing his young students stuff was pretty creepy, that's just something you've got to try and get over in his films though. It had some laughs and i thought it had a good script and performances , great cast. Random thing i noticed Woody makes a joke about a Channel Changer in both this and Mighty Aphrodite, in both the channel changer is supposed to symbolize the power in a relationship :D. I bet he does that alot, can't think of any other examples but i'll be keeping my eye out for it in the future. And... more Paulie Walnuts! Alright film overall.

I love the typical thriller and I love this movie's premise. A wealthy, genius, older man's younger wife is having an affair. Back at the house, he calmly shoots her in the head and then messes with the evidence. The police arrive, and the first officer on the scene is the guy that the wife was having an affair with. The older man confesses to him, but it's not that simple because he's playing a game. It will be up to a young hotshot prosecutor to put him in prison. The older man is played by Anthony Hopkkins, great, we're in good hands there. The prosecutor is played by Ryan Gosling, great if it were the Gosling of today, but this was 10 years ago when he seemed to me better suited for a teen movie. I like how the main story unfolds even if it is cliched. What I don't care about is the prosecutor's love life or career path and the movie spends way too much time on these aspects. Everything is great when Hopkins is on screen, but when he's not it's all just filler. I liked the ambiguous ending but it will frustrate some. It's not a movie I would recommend even though I enjoyed it.

This was great. I think there's good stuff in all of Sofia's films but this is the only one i've loved after Lost in Translation. Unsurpringly this was similar to Lost in Translation in its portrayal of boredom and loneliness, among the affluent again which i understand turns some people off, the main character is even an actor like Bob in LiT so i understand that to some this was treading old ground which is why it's not remembered that well, i think it was its own thing though. Totally get people not liking this it's hard to care about a guy like this who seemingly has everything he could want (Obviously not the case but he doesn't have to struggle finacially or whatever making it more of a challenge to sympathise/empathise with him, particularly in the way it's deliberately presented) i'm surprised i was able to. Well actually i'm not i think i've grappled with some of the things this film goes into in my own life. What i will say is while i understand people not liking this i think it's for the best she is making films like this, LiT and The Bling Ring. It probably wouldn't turn out right her say trying to depict poverty having been so far removed from that her entire life, she is the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, she grew up rich in Hollywood this is the sort of life she knows. There was also some light funny moments that were way more effective than they should have been because the film had lulled you with its calm atmosphere, him realizing the masseuse was naked for example. One weird thing i noticed is i'm pretty sure not a word is spoken (not including songs that are playing) for the first fifteen minutes, he just drives around and sits and watches his private twin stripper sisters before he finally talks the second time he sees them, funny thing is i didn't actually notice until he actually spoke. The film really did a number on me at times sucking me into its dreary atmosphere.

Beautiful film as well as all the gorgeous scenery and lavish house/sets it's very well filmed, love the use of light which is funny since my biggest problem with The Beguiled is the lighting. Anyway i thought this was great, it's one of those films i'd easily understand if others don't though. Even outside of connecting with it it's very slow and calm and full of scenes with seemingly very little going on, even more so than Lost In Translation. I do like LiT significantly more of this, both because i found it more powerful and entertaining but this is a great second place.

Liquid Sky (1982)
Director: Slava Tsukerman

https://i.imgur.com/aGPcAYm.jpg

An alien saucer the size of a dinner plate lands atop a penthouse roof top as a vantage point to snipe heroin addicts in the new wave scene to collect their euphoric brain reactions to the drug. This same chemical reaction is similar to a sexual orgasm, and soon the host of these encounters becomes a killer by default, making everyone come and then die.

https://i.imgur.com/87lx31d.jpg

This is one of the most beautifully visual films I have ever seen and the premise alone isn't done justice by my quick assessment up top. Inside the amateurish staging of Liquid Sky is a brilliant science fiction erotic film, accented with inspired writing, authentic performances and truly original musical score.

The costuming and neon design is just the beginning as you venture into this movie. Every camera set-up seems to be premeditated with extreme care. Gels on the windows painting a yellow and foggy Empire State Building as a figurehead from the penthouse, exquisite face paint in day-glo fashion, and subtly placed humor.

https://i.imgur.com/c0AJzSx.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/vtCk9yG.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/ZnVNkuU.gif

Some of the scenes pass for soft core porn, and the language is strong throughout, but that only keeps this experience convincing. Pretension abound, we have performance art interspersed between the plot, and it's a laugh. I think it may even know it's a laugh because during some of the performances there is dialog that points to this. "My rhythm box is sweet. Never Forgets A beat. Do you want to know why? Do you want to know why? It Is Pre Programmed. So what. So what. Me Me and. Me and my. Rhythm Box Are you. Jealous?"

Liquid Sky was forever trapped on VHS and Betamax cassette for decades before finally having a proper transfer from its 35mm source and man does it look good now! Vinegar Syndrome has released a beautifully scanned and packaged presentation of this cult hit. I highly recommend you pick a copy up before they are out of print.

The movie is perverse, vulgar, funny, dramatic, infinitely interesting and gorgeous looking on most every facet of its meager $500,000 budget. B-Movie heaven, in other words.

Before I sign off I have to mention the soundtrack which is straight from director Slava's uneducated mimings. A novice collection of early samplers, Fairlight Musical Synthesis and oddly metered neo-classical bits that sound like part of a suffocated circus.

I feel like this is better than I'm rating it but I just didn't enjoy it a tremendous amount. Besides some early hilarious scenes, the movie drags and doesn't offer much in the form of entertainment. I did find it to be an excellent and relatable experience. I had a relationship with a beautiful and much younger girl that I had nothing in common with except for isolation and desperation. In that way the movie hit home with me. Bill Murray and the cinematography were amazing. Scarlett Johansson also did well for herself.

Sex, Lies and Videotape (1989) Always a good movie to watch when it's on or if it's available on demand. Well acted, doesn't drag, and for a script that was written in a few days, low budget, it's still a good film. 8/10

I thought the premise was silly so I was skeptical going in. I hated the opening scene and figured I'd hate the rest of the movie. I didn't think much of the main character at first but he ended up doing a pretty good job in a bit of an understated role. The supporting cast was very good with Foxx, Spacey, etc. It's very fast paced, humorous at times, and turns out to be a decent amount of fun. With a couple of exceptions, I thought the soundtrack sucked.

Guys, guys, guys, guys, guys, guys,

I don't know why I've never recommended this movie before. It's a ****ing classic among me and my high school friends for how hilariously bad it is. To the chagrin of our wives/girlfriends this Saturday night, we revisited Killjoy (2000), and it was glorious. This is another one you guys can check out on youtube for free.

For some reason there are like 6 sequels to Killjoy; which all lack the hilarity of the original. So, if you want to venture on, God Speed, but they aren't really good.

EDIT: If you're still on the fence, this review by Horror Movie a Day (http://horror-movie-a-day.blogspot.com/2012/02/killjoy.html) may convince you.

Two distinct films on the subject of male fragility. The former a very intriguing reflection on the estranged meeting of the Other, while the latter a more stereotypical reflection on revenge through male activity. Hopefully the last years focus on gender issues will reflect more on the subject of male fragility and non-stereotypical behaviour in modern film. Three recent films that comes to mind are L'Inconnu du Lac, Moonlight and Tangerine which imo are all worth watching (Not on par with Bresson though :p)

So here I am after another go-around with this movie, and after my one and only diversion to the Pioneer dub, this is yet another with the original Streamline dub and you can betchorass it's how I'm gonna be watching this movie from now on. It's far more entertaining and far more quotable and, for my money, the voices fit the characters better. Cam Clarke's Kaneda is far tougher and far cockier - he sounds like a tough guy from New York right from the first scene, which is how I always imagined the character sounding - where Johnny Yong Bosch sounds a little too much like a punk from Paine College trying to act tough for my liking; opinions differ, sure, but I know which Kaneda I'd want leading me into battle against the Clowns. Another thing is that, to my ear, Jan Rabson's Tetsuo sounds more like someone in pain during the mutation and other scenes where that's how he's supposed to sound. Another thing is that Lara Cody's Kei sounds more like a teenager than Wendee Lee's, who sounds 40. Tony Pope's Colonel immediately reminds me of my late paternal grandfather, a sergeant in the Army who served in Vietnam and served for 20 years overall from 1962-82, something Jamieson Price loses in the new dub. The scene where he, in a fit of rage, picks the scientist up and throws him on the ground reminds me of a story Dad told where my grandfather held a very annoying lesser officer out the window by his tie while all the soldiers in the room said "Drop him, sarge! Drop him!" Like the Colonel, he was also a big man at six-one and 280; I know it's not six-eight and 203, but still. And yes, my grandfather did in fact have a growl every time he spoke. Just imagine Pope's Colonel saying "f--k" and "s--t" a lot and you've got a pretty good idea of what my grandfather sounded like. If you want my honest opinion, the new voice actors in general don't bring the characters to life the same way the originals do, except for Matthew Mercer's Kai and Michael Lindsay's Yama, who match Bob Bergen's and Pope's, respectively. The original dub doesn't translate the Japanese dialogue as literally as the new one does, but this is for the better as far as I'm concerned since the new dub often translates it so literally that it's completely unnatural in English. No one I've ever known says, "And now you're a boss too... Of this pile of rubble." They say, "Now you're king of the mountain, aren't ya, but it's all garbage!" No one says, "It was a dream that I saw." They say, "I had a dream." (which is actually the more accurate translation in this case according to Funimation's subtitles which were translated directly from the Japanese dialogue by Kodansha in 2013) And "You're gonna kill him, Tetsuo. You want that?" just doesn't have the same force and emotion behind it as "That's enough, Tetsuo! Are ya tryin' to kill him?!" (again the more accurate translation in this case according to those handy subtitles) And give me "Stupidity! Utter stupidity!" any day of the week. Besides, it fits better with how cocky Tetsuo's gotten to be at this point. Also, it's eerie how much Neo-Tokyo looks like the real world. On this viewing, I was struck by how reminiscent its dark, dirty, grungy alleys and rundown, deteriorated buildings are of Atlanta from the months I spent there in a buddy's apartment and the bad part of Augusta (really all of Augusta) from riding through there in the backseat of Dad's '91 Lexus (and Mom's '92 Buick) as a kid. In any case, this is a movie I could watch over and over again for sure. It's a fun and exciting movie, while dealing with religion and just how much can go wrong simply from a scientist doing crap he shouldn't be doing, that's gotten easier to get into with each viewing and that's a sure sign of a classic as far as I'm concerned. Well, I'm done and I'll see you guys later.

Kevin and Perry Go Large (2000)

Guilty pleasure, Kathy Burke is and always has been hilarious as Perry, so much love for this film. Why couldn't Alan Partridge and most other Bristish comedy series turned into a movie get it right. "Allright sadact give us your tape" Rhys Ifans is brilliant too, as pure fun Bristish comedy. 4.

The Killers (1946)

Slightly different from the previous film I watched in era and genre. Haven't seen too many Burt Lancaster films he was good but sometimes sooooo over the top like the chair through the window for instance, I like some of the films from the 60's and beforehand but the
acting is very wooden at times and it's no different here. I loved all the actors themselves the woman that played the Swede's initial love interest was especially great. the storyline was solid, music, setting, editing,I'll have to give it another viewing as there is a lot going on, really good movie nonetheless. 4

As always Wiseman with his fly-on-the-wall documentaries creates material for an interesting analysis of institutional structures. The poignant film shows the lack of pedagogical attitude towards people with mental health issues and is as relevant as ever for social workers like us.

Aye, 'tis nicely understated for the most part which does give the occasional explosive moment that much more impact but I have to admit did also made the swelling finale irritate me that little bit more too.

Antiporno (2016) dir. Sion Sono

5

https://i.imgur.com/W7qfLN2.png

First off, I’d like to take a minute to talk about how beautiful Antiporno looks. Sono confines most of the action to a single apartment, with walls painted in various vivid colours, giant pop-art paintings leaning on the wall, and numerous rotating fans that shed light into the interiors. All of this coupled with occasional bubbles, lights of many candles, and naked female bodies (being accused of male gaze in 3… 2… 1…) creates some incredible eye-candy moments. The acting is very good and convincing, too. Especially, from, the newcomer Ami Tomite (it’s her first movie both in real life and in the film, so meta!) EDIT: it is actually not her first in real life, meta = broken. I also could swear one of the guest girls was Asami. Now that I have of all this behind me, let’s get to the rant analysis.

SPOILERS

Sion Sono’s Antiporno is not a porn film, but, just like love is close to hate, antiporn is close to porn. The film talks about many things, including art, and show business, how hard it is to get there, as a porn star, as a novelist, as an actress. Average porn star’s career is very short, only the best girls get famous, but at what expense? It’s not only pornstars, though. Especially in Japan, but pretty much in the entire world as well, the show business is extremely competitive. Not only the best and most talented prevail, but above all, these with strongest minds. Suicidal tendencies are common, for instance, Yukiko Okada’s successful and Jun Togawa’s unsuccessful suicide attempts. The world of show business, the world of porn, the world of adults, the world itself is unrelenting. Life sucks, to put it bluntly.

The protagonist of the film, Kyoko, gets to experience this. At the beginning of the film she’s a stereotypical, over-the-top, narcissistic megalomaniac. A star on the verge of madness suffering from bulimia. She treats her manager, Noriko, like a dog. Kyoko is a dom, whereas Noriko is a sub. In a shocking scene, the domina humiliates Noriko in the least titillating way possible. She orders her to cut her wrist only to remark her blood is dirty and of no further use. However, this state of affairs does not last long, as in a surprising twist the roles change. Now the former domina becomes a sub, is humiliated by her former slave, who turns out to be a more experienced person ‘in the business’. Is the beginning of the film a mad dream? The character of Kyoko’s sister may indicate that it is. Is it just a movie within a movie? The abrupt cut from the action that shows the film crew seems to suggest so.

Kyoko’s backstory is a pretty typical ‘how I got here’ kind of a thing, with repressed sexuality, loss of mother and sister, that inflicted deep trauma, and perhaps, mental illness. For Kyoko sex is a form of rebellion, virginity a form of slavery. Just like many girls, she lies her way into porn industry. This reminded me of Reiko Ike, who lied about her age, too. It was pinku eiga, not porn in her case, though. Sex as form of rebellion and expression is stupid. A decision she will most likely regret. Well, she already regrets it when she finds out there is no sister in the apartment. It may be too late as she is already being flogged by the domina – the dream of being famous, being a star, even if porn star is but a dream and reality is much harsher. Young girls are used, exploited, molested. Just like alleged molestation of members of AKB48 group. The paint sequence at the end of the film is reminiscent of BIS ‘anti-idol’ group music videos.

The film seems to try to say something about feminism, too. The only two men in the film, Kyoko’s father, who on one hand, along with her mother, says sex is filthy and dirty, but on the other, has sex every night, is portrayed as a hypersexual. The other man in the film, a young boy, agrees to deflower the protagonist and starts doing it in a rapey style (this changes after a while, as she teaches him to be gentle?!). There is also the director who tries to elicit a natural orgasm imitation by dry-humping her behind the stage. All men in the film = sex. At the end of the film there is a short tirade about men being ‘bad’ and root of all evil, as well. Now, taken objectively, this would be a pretty narrow-minded view in such an otherwise smart film. But it is only so, if taken as a) director’s manifesto against men (and not just immoral world of porn) that I sincerely believe is not the case, and b) OBJECTIVE filmmaking, which I don’t think adheres to Sono neither. Now, you can take it as SUBJECTIVE, a product of Kyoko’s mind. She sees men like that, because that’s all she knows of them. But then again, women she knows aren’t any better either. The ending made me realize yet another thing. The film is also about free speech. Sono has free speech in this film and seems to mock the viewer, introducing the grand finale, in which big puddles of multi-colored paint cover Kyoko and the white floor she’s on. Just like Chytilova in Daisies, he seems to summarize: “This film is dedicated to those who get upset only over a stomped-upon bed of lettuce”, only in this case it’s paint, Jodorowsky Fando y Lis style!

END OF SPOILERS

Of course, Sono is far from subtle and criticism of his metaphors and symbolism being heavy-handed is a fair one, but it is still his best film after Love Exposure. The best movie of 2016. Ex aequo with The Son of Joseph.

So I started watching movies again which is a great thing, this is what I've seen this last week:

Mr. Smith Goest to Washington (1939)

This was on my watchlist for long mainly because of James Stewart and also because it's a Capra.

I usually have problems with nationalism and even the idea of patriotism, of someone feeling special because it was born in a specific place on the planet is quite alien to me. That theme is quite common in american war or politics films and it's usually a huge turn down for me.
That being said, none of this was a problem. I freaking loved it!!!

The way Capra portrayed the american dream, the fight for liberty, the devotion to the Constituition and the works of great men from the past made it more than a national issue, more than a patriotic flag. The message is quite clear: power is supposed to be by the people and for the people and that is the main strength of this movie.

The perfomances are quite good, especially of course the one and only James Stewart, who I keep saying was born 30 years before his time. There are also some good bits of cinematography especially on the Lincoln Memorial.

A question to the americans: Is that statue that big?

-------------------------------------------------

I Love You Daddy (2017)

I am a huge fan of Louis CK, his TV Show Louie is one of my absolute favorite, so I was obviously quite curious to see this.
Even with all the disgusting things going around him at this time, I always try to separate the man from the artist (or else I wouldn't listen fo freaking Wagner, which would be almost a crime), and the fact that the whole film was about sexual harassment on Hollywood only made me more curious.

So, my expectations were pretty high and I hate to say it quite disappointed me. The jokes are not that good and I was expecting it to go deeper, as he goes on the Tv show sometimes.

I did love Malkovich's perfomance as well as Charlie Day. His character is something quite extraordinary and also has all the the funny scenes of the movie.

3

----------------------------------------------

The Thing (1982)

Ok, a huge classic and a favourite of many people around here so I decided to check it finally!

It's amazing!!! The pacing is great, the acting really solid, the special effects have aged surprinsingly well and it has some amazing jumpscares, mainly because of such a dense atmosphere that is present through out the whole film. It was such a great surprise!!!

4

----------------------------------------------

Superbad (2007)

So, I don't really know what to say about this. It's awkard as fuc* so I spent half the movie uncomfortable but I guess that's the point.
The acting is pretty great and the actors were really well chosen!

These kind of movies are not usually my cup of tea but this came out surprisingly good.

So, after rewatching Akira yesterday, I remembered the one and only other piece of Japanese animation I'd always wanted to see and it was this movie. I was just doing my normal thing this afternoon when I remembered the copy of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind I'd pre-ordered for my birthday that had been sitting around collecting dust for a little over a month. So, I decided it was time to finally sit down and watch this bad boy and I don't regret that decision for a second. It's really easy to get swept along in the story: a minute becomes five, five becomes fifteen, fifteen becomes thirty, thirty becomes an hour and then an hour becomes the credits. Also, I'm not gonna lie, I actually cringed during that scene with the sea of acid. Also, a word on the English dub. Disney's gotten a lot of flack for their dubs, this one being no exception, but I'm not sure why. Frankly, I thought Disney did a lot better by this movie than, say for instance, Pioneer did by the aforementioned Akira. The Japanese dialogue is translated faithfully without it sounding unnatural in English and the sound effects are intact and unaltered, which is a lot more than can be said for Pioneer's dub of Akira. This is not to mention that each and every voice actor, the vast majority of whom are well-known live-action actors, is perfectly cast. This is actually, so far as I can remember, my first experience with Alison Lohman, but I thought she was the perfect pick for the titular princess. Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise himself Patrick Stewart was also a perfect pick for Lord Yupa and having Edward James Olmos, probably best known for his roles as Bill Adama on Battlestar Galactica and as Gaff in Blade Runner, as Mito only helped. All told, this Miyazaki guy clearly knows what he's doing, this movie deserves its reputation and I can certainly see myself watching it again in the future.

And the week before:

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

I'm not the greatest Marvel fan but I liked the first Thor and The Avengers films, so I gave this a go.

The whole ideia I get from this is that they were really trying to be funny, which is disappointing because Marvel movies are always funny because some pretty good one liners on the most unexpected places. This one however, was doing the opposite. My friend who watched this with me made this remark: "well, at least they don't need to do a parody of this film anymore" which pretty much says it all.

The last act is so over the top it starts to get awkward and the beggining is just a miss on every way possible.

2 +

-----------------------------

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

I had heard good things about it so I decided to check it.

The fact that is a parody film could hv made it bad but it doesn't, it's the perfect example of a parody done right! The acting is great, the script is really funny and the pacing is amazing. I felt they could have developed more the ending part cause it felt a bit rushed but that's a minor things.

3.5

----------------------------

Repulsion (1965)

I recently rewatched Rosemary's Baby so I got curious to see more from Polanski (besides Chinatown and The Pianist).

Repulsion is a strange movie, but quite intense. As in Rosemary's Baby, Polanski takes the time to install the atmosphere and to present us the characters so half of the movie is just a slow, comtemplative trip, which is not to say it's boring! The soundtrack gives it an interesting pacing and the cold acting by Deneuve is brilliant.

The second act happens very fast and in an unexpected way. I loved the hands scenes and all the raping scenes were pretty intense. It has so many hidden messages it's amazing to think about it.

3.5

---------------------------

In Bruges (2008)

A very nice dark comedy.
The script is really really good, the acting from all the cast is too, and the cinematography is very interesting! There are some great moments in this like:

Ken: [looking at a surreal Bosch painting] It's Judgment Day, you know?
Ray: No. What's that then?
Ken: Well, it's, you know, the final day on Earth, when mankind will be judged for the crimes they've committed and that.
Ray: Oh. And see who gets into heaven and who gets into hell and all that.
Ken: Yeah. And what's the other place?
Ray: Purgatory.
Ken: Purgatory... what's that?
Ray: Purgatory's kind of like the in-betweeny one. You weren't really ****, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham.
[pause]
Ray: Do you believe in all that stuff, Ken?
Ken: About Tottenham?

I loved all the morality behind all this and the honour among personal hitmen. A really easy and fun watch!

A lot of fun to watch. I really like the noir-esque world that they built up around the high school and the cliques. Acting's strong, twisty and fun plot line, although the dialogue can get on your nerves when you're a little lost at point to point.

But entertaining enough. Would definitely recommend.

Nasty Cat III thriller that I think could have been a little nastier. I did think it was decent as a thriller and had a pretty good shoot-out. A serial rapist/killer with a leg fetish sets his sights on an attractive police officer. I'm not big into Asian girls but they were pretty hot in this movie; could use a little trim though. It was made better than I expected and I enjoyed it.

The league of extraordinary gentleman (2003)

Thought I'd give it a go as I only ever watched it as a kid. Not a Sean Connery fan in the slightest and only heard bad things about this and I can kinda see why. I don't think the CGI was that bad to be honest especially with Hyde but then I loved Eric Bana's Hulk so I'm clearly in the minority. There were lots of plot holes, the story was drab and went nowhere even remotely exciting, and yes Connery's constant one liners were horrible as ever. 2.5

It's set up with a great premise, but the film just didn't pack much of an emotional punch. Damn.

Glad you enjoyed. What did you think of my over-analysed theory?

what if...................... more or less the entire film is just Connie wrestling with his inner demons? The entire robbery and aftermath is just a rouse to show us how he is completely at odds with the therapy his brother is undergoing, as he disapproves of it - but ultimately knows it is the best solution.

1) The analogy of taking the wrong person out of care when he escapes from the hospital ("I thought my brother was someone else") 2) The constant shots of the tv newscaster - representing his guilt at the situation 3) The guy he took out of care (Ray?) falling to his death at the end - showing that this is what will happen to his brother if he takes him out of care. 4) At the end we hear the therapist say "Your brother has been "responsible" by making this decision". But going to jail wouldn't be responsible would it, and lets face it, Nick would have been in the slammer with him if it had been real (does a jury really believe that Nick wasn't the other guy holding up the bank?). How is he even "responsible" as a guardian when in prison? 5) The reference to acid. Is this all a trip?

So does all this point to the fact we are seeing Connie coming to this conscious but tough decision of sending his brother to care? Is it all in his mind? Did any of it take place?

I had this German film on my watchlist for a while and moved it to the top when I realized it was directed by a woman. You've got a teenage boy who is a lost soul and a Jesus freak. He's with a group of like minded people but befriends a man who happens to be a non-believer. He ends up moving in with the man and his family. Eventually the man starts to test the teen's faith, and these tests get more and more cruel. The teen stays because he believes it's a test from God and he wants to help the stepdaughter. It is a very slow movie, but it is a well made and very upsetting true story. It deserves a place on the women directors countdown.

Honestly i considered the exact same thing, i didn't think it out as much as you the main thing that made me consider it is:

The "Your brother has been responsible by making this decision" and also the "your brother is in the right place (or your brother is in the place he should be something like that) and so are you", i think they were quite obviously trying to avoid mentioning he was in jail because he wasn't. Suppose it could be explained by them not wanting to upset Nick but then i think Nick would have mentioned his horrible experience in jail and him not wanting that for Connie if this actually all happened, it all seemed too carefully worded to me. I took it as Connie had a breakdown over this and has went to sort himself out while accepting the treatment for Nick.

Will need to digest it more and i'll end up watching it again early next year with these things in mind. Great film anyway, Pattinson was fantastic didn't think he had it in him, loved the soundtrack too.

Eh, was looking forward to this but i thought it was just okay. Was beautiful visually at times but i thought it was a pretty dull drama Haley Lu Richardson was good but not enough to elevate this for me, one of those quiet, forgettable indie dramas. Read comparisons to Linklater particularly the Before films in a bunch of places, i can see where they are coming from since this is largely characters walking around and talking but to me at least this was nowhere near as interesting or heartfelt as those films. Not a bad film and i think there'll be some fans here but i didn't get much out of it.

I'm surprised that someone here watched that film (and also that it received a good rating). We had to suffer through a lot of incredibly boring-looking promotional material for that film for a long time leading up to its release. Anything filmed locally tends to get a lot of press anyway, but since the film is actually set in Newfoundland, that really amplified the amount of coverage it received haha.

Hela didn't get destroyed by flaming monster, she was merely loosing power because flaming monster was destroying Asgard from which Hela was absorbing her power somehow.

I'm a bit under the weather, so I was able to leave work early yesterday and take Robert Mulligan's The Nickle Ride (1974). Those unfamiliar with Mulligan's filmography (To Kill A Mockingbird (1962), The Other (1972)), he's a director who never made the same movie twice; so I was excited to see his contribution to the crime/neo-noir genre with The Nickle Ride. A film that I think is unfairly neglected, The Nickle Ride captures the economic downturn of the 1970s (similarly how Killing Them Softly (2012) captures the economic disaster of the "Great Recession") and is as bleak and moody as one of its crime movie contemporaries: The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973).

Starring Jason Miller as "Key Man" Cooper, whose role is never explicitly explained to the audience, but seems to be the combination of underworld fixer and high end fence, is in the middle of a deal of securing a large amount of warehouses to keep stolen goods in. The problem is that the cop on the mob's payroll who he needs protection from is skittish about the deal, testing the patience of the mob boss that Cooper works for.

Don't be misled, this isn't a gangster movie (per se), if anything it's a movie about a high stakes real estate deal that just happens to take place in the underworld. Miller's performance is a great slow burner, his character continuously worn down by the stresses that accompany this deal. Grossly overlooked is Linda Haynes' performance as Cooper's girlfriend, Sarah, who does the best her with the character written for her.

I recommend The Nickle Ride to anyone who's a fan of the crime/gangster/neo-noir genre. It may not be a movie that you'll watch multiple times, but it's one that you won't regret checking out. Unfortunately, The Nickle Ride isn't available for streaming anywhere that I know of, and isn't even available on Netflix by mail, but only on a double feature DVD that contains The Nickle Ride and the oddly named 99 and 44/100% Dead (1974).

Light 'spoilers' below

Great film, too many 'jokes'

Pure Star wars joy with some weird attempts at a Guardians tribute act thrown in.

Had been recommended this heartbreaking story about underage prostitution on the streets of Prague. Overall a great (if saddening) watch. What it reminded me of was Héctor Babencos "Pixote" (although continents apart, more in the tone of the storytelling). 4/5.

SPOILERS

Same as my response to most David Lynch movies, simply oh my. One thing you can say about the majority of his movies is that you never saw this or that coming. It's a startling movie and that baby loooks more convincing than the monster in the recent Alien movies, I'm not going to rate it because I just don't know how to. I'm not the arty farty type but his movies just seem like a form of movie art to me, I enjoyed the craziness and at times not so much, still, I'm glad I've finally seen it.

Reign of fire (2002)

I've watched this twice before but it seemed like a completely different movie this time around. For some reason I was expecting a claustrophic movie with more Gerard Butler involved, my memory informed me that it was more to do with he and Bale's friendship but it really wasn't. I was disappointed when the Americans with 6 tanks turned up because I never got the sense that there were that many of them, in fact just two. Very cliche in places but still interesting enough to keep me intrigued and watching, I really felt they could have delved more into the post apocalyptic time of the movie to make that side of things more believable instead it was just Bale running around a construction yard getting kids to pray that the dragons don't find them. 2.5

Zoolander 2

I could beat this movie up and knock it around just like people pick apart Trump...but these targets are too easy..it's like making fun of a slow child for not knowing how to drive stick shift...it's almost wrong...(maybe not Trump).

Aside from armageddon and the end of the world due to greed and stupidity/spinelessness/spite/confusion and anger...Zoolander 2 has no smarts about it. Not even in its attempt to make fun of dumb.

There were probably 2 moments where I laughed my assnick off, but that's it. One was when Hansel imitates the crypt keeper at an insensitive time, and the other was a reaction from Sting regarding his sex life. The rest is just bad. Part one of Zoolander I thought was pretty OK for what it was. It had something to say, at least. The Blue Steel look is what eventually became our great nation: duck lipped selfies. Very prophetic stuff.

Part 2 says not much new about anything excpt how to blow $55 million and only profit an extra mil.

It could've been special but nah...Stiller only cares about his celeb friends, seems like.

The Godfather Part 2

The original is a masterpiece. One of the greatest films I have ever seen. I'm sorry to say but I do not feel the same way about part 2. Regrettably, it's not a movie I enjoyed although I appreciate certain parts. I'd have to agree with just about everything Roger Ebert said in his initial review and his giving it 3 out of 4 stars.

Kylo Ren is by far my favorite thing in this film, the third act it's a little rushed and that death still looks 'forced' but I like to see this one as just an introduction to the new trilogy. I'll watch the new one just on monday 'cause I don't want to see with a bunch of kids screaming every time. The comedy in this film still very good too, but I have big problems with the affection that the main characters had with each other. It doesn't make any sense... But ok, it's Star Wars right?

Believe me, the Last Jedi makes the Force Awakens look real good.

(2017)

A decent psychological horror film that features good performances by the entire cast.

Aronofsky knows how to provide disturbing scares, much like he did in Black Swan. But here, he tops it near the end of the movie in a scene that is bound to make you extremely uncomfortable.

I Origins (2014)

Director: Mike Cahill
Writer: Mike Cahill
Cast: Michael Pitt, Steven Yeun, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey
Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy

About: A young molecular biologist (Michael Pitt) and his new student laboratory partner (Brit Marling) work on uncovering evidence that will prove evolution is real, by disproving a key argument in the Intelligent Design belief.

Review: Director/writer Mike Cahill churns some goobly goo religious ideas under the guise of pseudo science. Mike Cahill who previously wrote and directed the thought provoking Indie sci fi Another Earth (2011), fails to deliver here, with his ham fisted preaching and hoakey science. Add into that some lifeless characters and you get a sleeper that's best left sleeping. I've seen movies made by Christian organizations and even though they have a message they can still be a well made film.

http://www.movieforums.com/community/attachment.php?attachmentid=28483&stc=1&d=1484451722

I Origins is a poorly made film. What we're asked to swallow is an abrupt 180 degree character change as the scientist working on proving evolution comes to believe souls are being reborn into babies, based on repeating iris specks in the eye. Of course this same research scientist who was dedicated to disproving Intelligent Design spends his time buying cigarettes and lottery tickets. Any scientist knows those are two stupid things to do.

Nothing else to say here, if you want to see a good though provoking sci fi by Mike Cahill, watch his Another Earth.

So after long time waiting as a die hard Star Wars fan, finally I went for this double feature event last night.

Obviously they showed The Force Awakens again on IMAX screen, it was the 2nd time viewing for me, and I still loved it.

rating_4

Things I didn't like about The Force Awakens:
- Same as pointed out by a lot of people, the plot is lack of originality
- The part Finn didn't get killed by Kylo near the end was pretty BS

But overall, J.J. Abrams did well, IMHO.

https://nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/lastjeditrailer-7.gif

Then it was the real deal of the night, The Last Jedi, until it only turned out to be overshadowed by The Force Awakens. After the movie, I honestly felt that had I not have watched The Force Awakens first, I might enjoy The Last Jedi better.

rating_3

Things I didn't like about The Last Jedi:
- A lot of lazy writings, just like all other Disney Marvel productions. Example: that kicking the pipe and catching the bomb detonator scene. It was so uninspiring and freaking lazy. Also, that Leia superman scene, LOL
- Snoke Snoke Snoke, no spoiler, you know what I am talking about
- The side quest between Finn and Rose is pointless and BORING, and also how did that Asian girl land her role?
- The plot is just a mess. They planted a few twists, if you think hard, it is not that great, they did it just for a cheap surprise to the viewers. Having twists for the sake of having twists is a bad habit of a lot of directors nowadays (The blame should go to Nolan). They think that actually make them look smart and if you don't like the plot, you simply just don't 'get it'.
- Humor, I laughed here and there, but then had face palm for the most part.

Overall, congratulations to Rian Johnson, who successfully destroyed the Star Wars franchise.

I will put my rank of all the Star Wars movies so you can logically put your expectations at the right place before watching The Last Jedi:

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back rating_4_5
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope rating_4_5
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi rating_4
Star Wars: The Force Awakens rating_4
Rogue One rating_4
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith rating_3_5

Honestly if you haven't watched this and ever intend to just don't it's appaling. Although the scene where Queen Latifha gets killed by a swarm of jellyfish is gold dust, not because of the CGI that's shockingly bad too throughout, just the fact that it's her getting attacked. We had Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Samuel L, Liev Scrheiber all in leading roles but none of them could save this. A complete and utter mess of a movie it ends up being 3 people on a boat underwater all with the power to make what they imagine really happen, I think? Or able to make their dreams really happen, I honestly don't know or care it's just woeful. 2 hours 15 mins why why why did it have to be this long they could have easily snipped 45 minutes off this and no-one would have noticed. 2

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
I think this film will definitely not sit well for every Star Wars fan, but it will at least trigger interesting conversations among some of us. For me, while a couple of issues did bother me, mostly with pacing, inconsistency, and a struggling climax, I still regard this as a fantastic Star Wars experience. With bold storytelling, a narrative that challenges the audience, complex and edge-of-your-seat characterization, and jaw-dropping moments, this is a movie that left the inner Star Wars fan in me happy.

SCORE - 90/100

Check out my full review in my 2017 movie thread if you want details on why I love this movie enough to give it such a high score.

Tarzan

https://i.imgur.com/FzhsYy2.jpg

Rewatched this with my nephew and niece this morning. Good fun, the dumb start song instantly got on my nerves and i expected to hate it but i got into it. I do think it's kind of not structured well though, while it's obvious from the start Clayton is the villain it still feels like it takes to long for Tarzan, Jane and the professor to find out. There was also a few moments that shouldn't have bothered me in a movie about a wild man that speaks to gorilla's but it did anyway. For example: Tarzan being able to subdue Kerchack with a headlock, look i know i should be able to suspend my belief over something like that considering anything else, but i dunno i'm able to accept Tarzan would be stronger than most humans i can't accept that he'd be able to hold an angered King Gorilla down with a headlock for a good minute and a half, and it's not even like Kerchack breaks free Tarzan lets him go. Another was during the Tarzan and Clayton fight, there's a point where Clayton takes out his knife and Tarzan quickly bounces back and dives down all the vines then...Clayton is right next to him? Apparently Clayton is as good with the vines as this man who has been using them all his life, didn't make any sense. Another was a joke but it still bothered me: it was the professor apparently staying behind too, then what was the point in that Jane scene on the boat? The emotional moment there was supposed to be Jane giving up everything including her father she is extremely close to for love and yet he stays behind anyway, apparently she didn't give anything up since he's the only meaningful thing to her we are shown in the film. Yeah i'm getting old  Fun stuff anyway, great film to watch with young kids.

Feel like i should hate Bully but i like it quite a bit too, i liked it more than Kids. Mean Creek i was lukewarm on, i dunno outside the actual incident all of the kids depress the hell out of me which is supposed to be the point obviously. I actually find that more fcked up because we don't get to see that kid as a bully really until right before he's killed when he feels cornered and he clearly has serious problems, felt pretty bad for him. The bully in Bully is completely vile and he actually seems to have a good life so i was kinda whatever when he was killed. I agree it's more fcked up in a graphic sense though.

Plot Discussion Below - Spoilers

I kept going back to this movie every few years because I wasn't mentally accepting of it's qualities. Recently I've felt able to take it in again and assess it properly.

Though I do not feel that this is a very important story, I enjoyed this film a lot. It's slow but never dull. The music employs an odd percussiveness and pizzicato string section that pours a tense molasses-like nausea over the proceedings.

Daniel Day-Lewis portrays a straightforward but terrifying tycoon impossibly well. His slow descent into madness and self realization followed by a blinding denial is amazing. His nemesis is any form of competition, namely himself. The smart people are well advised to keep their distance from him, not least of which his son, who was deafened early on in his young life by an explosion of virgin oil spring.

Tycoon Plainview has his shlt list, and at the top of this list is a vain charlatan priest who taunts Lewis's character from day one, starting with a finder's fee, and later with guilt trips. Plainview relaxedly dismisses and snubs this priest, later physically punishing him like a rag doll, because he knows, and he has known, that this man of God is just a boy. A prickly, bothersome, self centered snake in the grass. He has no respect for him, and his satanic tendencies are able to be carried out in half swing, throughout a strong decade of resentment, until the bell tolls for both of them.

Anderson's direction is as bold and precise as any great director of the ages. How else can an actor with chops like Lewis inhabit such a beast man without a freedom and commitment from a director who knows exactly how to milk his cast, and how to capture such nuance in his characters, right down to the demonic growl of a whisky and nicotine stained vocal chord, bubbling like cold oil at the thought of a son becoming a sole entity for oil drilling?

That's a long question, and this is a long movie. It's a drawn out study and a dirty little comedy. It's true that Daniel Day embodies that of a Larry David persona so well when he spouts out his well sharpened dialog, just as Paul Dano's possessed man child voice frying gets under the skin so much that one cannot help but start giggling. Many may think that this is solely a dramatic work, but a closer inspection reveals that Anderson's writing is filled with jokes and riffs that simply cannot have been concocted without a madman sense of humor.

I picture PTA up late at night, after a few too many lines of cocaine, furiously writing and laughing passionately with a charcoal crayon over plain white paper, sweating, drinking, talking on the phone set to speaker, using a yes man personal assistant as a spring board. Someone paid to listen and agree. This may not be enough. Paul is too smart to think yes man agrees with him. So he writes the bit about Plainview getting deeply disturbed that his alleged brother has not laughed at his joke concerning prostitutes getting liquored up. He hangs up and calls Daniel Day Lewis's agent at 1:30 A.M.

The next morning, there's an answering machine message from Lewis's agent. He'd like to come talk to Paul and be there for script development.

This may seem far fetched, but judging from this film and how it plays out, I cannot imagine anything much less than something as extravagant as that happening in the creative process of this critic proof film.

The Adjustment bureau (2011)

Weird thing happened as I wrote this, for the first time since I've been on this forum there was an error on this page as I was writing and let's say around 100 words I wrote disappeared, I'm being fully serious, is the chairmen on to me?

I'm not perfect far from it, I contradict myself a lot, sometimes multiple times in one sentence. One of these contradictions has to be the ever changing line I have on what is acceptable and what is not in fantasy and reality terms. My rule of thumb is usually that if the movie takes place in the real world in a real setting surrounded by real places and has a serious tone than the plot really has to be logical. This movie has all the real settings but is so illogical I haven't even attempted trying to piece things together as it may as well be a lord of the rings movie but it still very much wants to be in this world, however there is no shire here. I like that the plot does delve into fate but absolutely hate the fact that it's so black and white, become president and ditch the girl or marry the girl and wave goodbye to the White House. Then at the end it was just a test from God and everybody lives happily ever after, the hats are plain stupid and why don't they just say the word God? It really isn't subtle that the chairmen is God it would have been less subtle if Morgan Freeman flew into Damon's office with wings, baby Jesus and a 500 man choir and sang "What's cracking Matt I'm God and you ain't marrying this bi***". The second half of the movie just fell into the usual Hollywood cliches when really it could have been so much more. To lovey duvey especially with his heartbreaking back story, It just seemed like they were trying to piece things together to convince us that they were soul mates when really all you need to be soul mates is to laugh at each other's jokes. Half of me feels the movie was fresh and interesting the other half stale and unoriginal. 3

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

Here we have the second installment in the third trilogy of Star Wars movies and this one is a winner all the way. Directed by Rian Johnson, who directed one of my favorite movies, Brick, he brings a bit of a different vibe to the universe here, and it's all for the better. We get to continue the story of good guys Rey, Finn, Poe, and bad guys Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke, with Luke Skywalker and his sister Leia also returning for the side of good.

Rey (Daisy Ridley) gets to pick up her story right where the last movie left us, meeting Jedi Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill, in a fine performance) on his isolated island, hoping he will train her in the ways of the Force. But she finds that not to be an easy task as he has turned away from the Force after the destruction of his students by his pupil Kylo Ren many years before. He refuses to train any Jedi potentials due to the pain and loss he suffered. But Rey is no so easily dissuaded.

Meanwhile, injured friend Finn (John Boyega) wakes from his coma and is eager to pick up the fight against the evil First Order. General Leia (the late Carrie Fisher), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Vice Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern) are in the vanguard of the Resistance. But they find the odds against them this time as their fuel is running low and their ships are being picked off one by one by the First Order.

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey find that they can see only each other when they use the Force and can commune with each other. We find out whether this is a good thing or not near the movie's conclusion.

The movie has nary a dull moment and moves at a breakneck pace. There are many surprises as director Johnson chooses to go in certain directions that I personally found refreshing. Certain people, good and bad, meet their end here; extensions of personal powers are found out; sacrifice is at hand all the way through the movie; there are moments of levity even in this somewhat darker installment; but the ending leaves you with hope for the future, which has been a running theme ever since George Lucas went back and subtitled the first Star Wars (1977) A New Hope. Hope reigns eternal in this saga. I loved it and will probably see it again at the cinema, which is something I rarely do anymore.

Powerful and low-key film about a girl in real trouble and without a childhood to speak of. Emelie Dequenne is outstanding in a hopeless situation as the titular character. So defensive/damaged she can't even trust the people who *do* like her. There is a glimmer of hope though. If some obliging female could explain the hairdryer belly situation I'd be most happy :) need to watch more Dardenne Bro.s stuff. 4.5/5

Plot::Luke Skywalker reluctantly trains Rey, who is at threat of going to the Dark Side, while the rebellion outruns the First Order

39304

The first Star Wars film I have seen that I thought was great instead of good. The cinema experience is the best experience. The characters were all very deep, making the lightsaber fights that more emotional. The nods to the original trilogy weren’t forced like they were in Rogue One.Kylo Ren’s character was brilliant, and so was Luke’s. The comedic relief was great. So many emotional edge-of-your-seat moments. The 2-and-a-half hour length didn’t put me off, I was never bored. Some of the imagery is very nice.

My only real gripe with the film was when the rebel ships were being shot down, yet when they cut back to them in a later scene it’s still the exact same number of ships, it really brought me out of the experience. The Asian lady made some very silly character decisions, but I guess that was a fault of her and not with the film.

39305

Yoda’s appearance was awesome, It made me audibly gasp in the theatre. I loved how he was done as a puppet, not CGI. Luke’s death felt more happy than sad, it was really nice.

I'm sure you're gonna have the multiple nerds on the internet saying extremely dumb theories, trying to prove the film is s*it for some pointless reason, yet that shouldn't put you off of this spectacle. See this film whenever you can, IMAXX screening is possible....
