Went into this not entirely sure what to expect and it blew me away. The world it creates is so very fascinating and so very threatening. The animation is amazing. I love the old-school cel animation style used here. It's hard to believe an anime from 2000 is this grainy (almost as much as Akira) when it seems like everything after 1995 is so focused on being shiny. But you know what? It's a perfect match for the film's gritty tone, so I'm not complaining. In fact, I wish more anime used this style even today. Yoko Kanno, of Cowboy Bebop fame, gives us another pitch-perfect musical score here. The story is amazing, too, and it's also very well-paced, the high stakes well-defined within its 100-minute runtime. Being able to care what happens to the characters doesn't hurt, either. Okay, so about the dub now. There's actually two and as with the two Akira dubs, different fans hold different opinions. There's the dub Ocean produced in 2004 and the one Funimation produced in 2016. I can't comment on the Ocean dub without having heard it, though it has some good voice actors in its roster like Ukyo Kuonji (and Sango) herself Kelly Sheridan as Hitomi, Naraku (and Happosai) himself Paul Dobson as Folken and girl-type Ranma herself Venus Terzo as a supporting character named Millerna, but the Funimation dub is flawless from top to bottom. Haruhi Fujioka (and Maya Ibuki) herself Caitlin Glass is perfect as Hitomi Kanzaki, the depressed teen who feels like simply fading away until she ends up in Gaea, a world that sits beneath the Earth and the Moon, which is to say in way over her head when people start calling her the wind goddess. Granted, I'm biased since Glass is one of my favorite voice actors. Fun fact: in Japanese, Hitomi is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto (think she comes from my paternal grandmother's family) who would later voice Haruhi Fujioka in Ouran High School Host Club. Aaron Dismuke is also excellent as Van, the king without a people to lead. Tamaki Suoh himself Vic Mignogna isn't the first I'd think of as Van's insane brother Folken, but he pulls it off a lot better than I thought he would, especially since Tamaki doesn't have a single evil bone in his body. The rest of the cast is also excellent and the dub script is completely natural. It's also pretty cool that they left the villagers' chants in Japanese rather than dubbing them. Overall, considering the dub coupled with a fine HD transfer, Funimation couldn't have done better by Escaflowne. The movie deserves the treatment they gave it, too, and if it turned out this good, I can hardly wait to check out The Vision of Escaflowne the TV series this is an alternate version of and which Funimation also redubbed and presented uncut in English for the first time. Some have criticized the film for the changes it makes, notably the tone and some changes to the character designs, apparently, but I don't see why the two can't coexist as companion pieces. After all, seeing this one made me want to check out the original show so that has to count for something. I might not know exactly what I'll think of the show just yet, though I get the feeling I might end up enjoying it nearly as much, but I think I'll definitely be coming back to the movie many times in the future.

The Lady Vanishes (1938)

Probably my 3rd or 4th re-watch, It's Hitchcock's next-to-last film before relocating from England to Hollywood. It's a major mystery/thriller in which Hitch has pulled together elements that would make him one of the best of all time. Some of the techniques would appear several times in his ensuing films, such as the character who is in peril between two passing trains-- which he used later in 1943's Shadow of a Doubt. And of course there is the seemingly inexplicable mystery disappearance.

Margaret Lockwood stars in a delightful role as a duped tourist caught up in international intrigue. Michael Redgrave has his first role in a motion picture, fresh from veteran stage work. And the fascinating Dame May Whitty turns in an enjoyable performance as Miss Froy, the "vanishing lady".

The film was a hit in '38, and had I seen it at the time it would have been a 9/10. Contemporary rating: 7/10.

This movie is terribly dated but still packs an emotional wollop thanks to Friedkin's intense direction and some excellent performances. This movie was pre-AIDS and pre-technology, which is one reason I think this film is ripe for a remake. With the advent of cell phones and smart tablets, it would be really interesting to see how the "telephone game" would play today.

I did a research on Muay Thai after seeing this small video (https://tinyurl.com/yyj2hoes). Muay Thai in Thailand is more than just a sport, is near a religion, something comparable might be perhaps some forms of kung fu. About the ranking, I didn't like to rank things to begin with, but since this thread is about ranking I started doing it. If I rank something 3/5, it means is enjoyable to watch and worth mentioning.

Finally got the chance to see this, as part of Belfast Film Festival. Following Guerra's near perfect Embrace of The Serpent, I've been looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint. This will/has draw comparisons to Scarface, Narcos, The Godfather and I've even heard The Sopranos linked too. The movie, beginning in 1960's rural Colombia, tells of the escalation of illegal drug trading between indigenous people.

Some of the images are hugely impressive and on the big screen it really was a memorable experience. The fact it was based on a true story makes it even better.

Recommended.

I finally saw it. Loved it. I enjoy Guerro's ability to put the viewer in a relatively primative world / culture that is being destroyed by greed. Here he mixes indigenous folk with Spanish speaking Colombians and greedy gringos. It features themes on drugs, gangs, guns and girls. It is part South American art-house and part Scorsese / de Palma / Coppola epic. It touches on matriarchy, family, and traditions vs modernity. As for the birds, what do they mean? Maybe they signal the beginning of a new chapter.

It's probably not as good as Embrace of the Serpent, but not many things are. It's a brilliant film in it's own right though.

After the movie Bouncer I had high hopes for this next JCVD movie. The story is confusing, some details are not proper elaborated, the action is poorly made. I guess the whole point of the movie is: they die young and the people they love sometimes go first. I learned that after Trump you can make a movie about MS-13.

Peter Weir's masterpiece....this movie just gets better and more topical with age and it's one of those movies where every time I watch it, I catch something I never caught before. This visually arresting and hauntingly hopeful indictment on the power of the media is frightening in its prophecy and endlessly fascinating. This movie also gets my vote for the movie robbed of the most Oscar nominations...Best Picture, Jim Carrey's incredible lead actor performance, Weir's direction, Andrew Nichol's screenplay, Supporting Actress Laura Linney, Burkhard Dallwitzand's incredible music and robbed of the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, Ed Harris who's maniacal Christoph is nothing short of breathtaking. On my list of favorite supporting performances, Ed Harris in this movie came in at #1.

It plays up the strengths (and admittedly the weaknesses) of Chapter 2 to much greater extents, but I'm already expecting it to hold the title for best action movie of the year. I certainly can't think of any upcoming movies that are liable to beat it.

If the Lethal Weapon series had a gender-reversal reboot and add a familial twist in terms of the partners, then this Korean action-comedy would be the result most likely. Ra Mi-Ran scores her 1st lead role as the "Riggs", tough as nails but unorthodox Park Mi-Young while Lee Sung-Kyung plays the "Murtaugh", the justice-seeking Cho Ji-Hye, who also just happens to be Park's sister-in-law with Yoon Sang-Hyun as the husband/sister, whose antics make him the "Leo Getz". However, while the film has comical moments, the film does tackle a case involving a woman who attempts suicide with the duo of cops learning she is the victim of a very provocative video that is set to stream within the next few days. A nice blend of comedy and serious crime with some fun action chases and fights mixed in.

John Wick Chapter 3 (2019)

Well... the first 20-30 minutes were absolutely amazing. It never reached those highs again though. The knife and horse stuff is some of the best and most inventive and entertaining action I’ve seen in quite some time.

The middle part was severely lacking though and I think it became clearer than ever that these movies are made by stunt people and fight choreographers - not drama people who knows how to write and build character. Does it matter in a movie like John Wick? No, not one bit, yet the writers seem to think it does. And if it had worked I wouldn’t have minded it at all. But it’s dull. It redeems itself towards the end when we get back from the unnecessary exotic trip, though it does fall into the repetitive action area, which the series has suffered a bit from before though. The action could definitely use better structuring. It works excellently in snippets but isn’t always wowed together with a proper build-up. It often stays on the same admittedly high level, but the lack of changing it up more makes it stale at time - no matter how impressive it is.

But I’m definitely still endlessly impressed by Keanu and the whole team behind this movie. There’s amazing stuff in here... just wish the movie as a whole was amazing too...

Really solid prison drama about a young guy with some anger management issues due to past abuses who ends up in a prison where his dad is also serving time. As with most prison dramas there is plenty of conflict. Needed subtitles even though it was in English because that slang... not up on my British slang.

The number of times I've watched this is somewhere in the 20's but this movie, even over 35 years old, is still one of the funniest movies ever made. And I noticed this time one of the film's most underrated components is Rob Reiner's razor sharp direction...Reiner's directorial eye really kicks in during the second half of the film when David learns that Janine is joining them on the tour and Nigel is not thrilled about the news...the camera beautifully advances story and reveals character emotions that in a formal documentary we would never see...Reiner's work here was crucial to this film that really gave birth to the Christopher Guest rep company.

Mainly because of Salvador Dali. Weird but captivating. The symbolism might have been received as subtle during its time, but a contemporary audience might see it as glaringly obvious. I realised a few years ago that I liked it more than I thought. The reason being I'd encountered it so much as part of science fiction and fantasy, but I don't see much of that now, and horror is filling the gap :).

Supernatural horror is great for suspense... I want to be scared enough to make my adrenaline flow....

Taissa was in "The Nun" which gave the story what happened Vera's character, Lorianne, on the botched exorcism.

That was a very good bit of The Conjuring so it's good they've revealed more about that incident.

I know many who do not like the film series... but I actually do.. I wish they would remake "The Amityville Horror" in the Ed and Lorraine style because that would be great to continue the series with more familiar stories.

I think the final "twist" (if it could be called such, because of how utterly predictable it was) was totally unnecessary and ruined the ending . Still a very good film, beautifully shot, acted and directed (great performance by Michael Shannon).

You haven't seen any of the Annabell's or The Nun? Or Conjuring 2?

I feel Vera Farmiga is like the new Queen of Horror.. she's Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigator and Norma Bates, Norman's mother. She's played in several other horror films.

The Bedroom Window (1987)

This is a surprisingly good suspense thriller from a screenplay by Curtis Hanson, who also directed; and stars Steve Guttenberg, Elizabeth McGovern, and Isabelle Huppert.

The picture received and "R" rating, but could more appropriately be rated "PG-13". There are brief scenes of moderate nudity, but they are relatively important, and flow from the plot.

Guttenberg was miscast as the lover of the adulteress wife of his boss. It's difficult to believe him in a serious role. He's best in early Disney comedies. Isabelle Huppert on the other hand is a charismatic and smoldering beauty, who can easily range from good-natured temptress, to femme fatale. It's surprising that we haven't seen more of her in American films. She's a modern version of Marlene Dietrich. And McGovern turns in a very reliable and commendable character part that becomes more important as the story unfolds. What gorgeous light blue eyes she has!

Hanson is very deft at building tension, and in establishing Hitchcockian scenes. He may have been influenced by the master's Rear Window, although this movie is not nearly as confined.

There was no gutter language, and the violence was mild by today's standards. Set in 1987, it was particularly enjoyable to be free of cell phones, and the annoying contemporary habit of spending inordinate amount of time fussing with them.

An overall interesting picture from 30 years ago.

Strange one this, decent performances but the story is so "wonky" as to only be one of Herzogs. It seems pretty cheaply put together but Shannon is good and it held my interest till the end.

One of two films in Oscar history to receive 11 nominations and not win a single award...despite that, this is still Herbert Ross' masterpiece...this melodrama of life choices, jealousy, and regret set in the world of contempory ballet features rich performances from Bancroft and MacLaine and has forever preserved on screen the dancing of the incredible Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Avengement (Jesse V. Johnson, 2019): The action dream team of action star Scott Adkins and director Jesse V. Johnson offer their latest. Adkins plays Cain Burgess, a London prisoner who while on furlough escapes. Heading to a local members' only pub, he comes face to face with a band of gangsters and he tells the story of how his gangster boss brother set him up to be imprisoned and brutalized. Adkins gets to once again show some action chops, but delves into a slow but smooth transformation from innocent young man to deranged brutal prisoner. Really good use of story mixed in with some grounded action. This is one Adkins films worth checking out.

She's tough to please unlike me, and she might not even tell me she liked it if she did. Good story but I think it's the performances that make the movie. Looks like a beautiful place to live if you're not a diddler.

'All Creatures here Below' (2019)

Directed by Collin Schiffli

https://i.imgur.com/n3hKs8R.gif

This was a really nice surprise. I didn't know much about it at all, so it was a bit of a punt. But it features two very good performances from Karen Gillan and David Dastmalchian - as a couple of troubled youngsters who get mixed up into something far bigger than they intended to.

The plot isn't groudbreaking, but what sees the film through is the writing (Dastmalchian again) and the ability of the two leads to convince the viewer that they have good intentions beneath all the grim reality taking place. All they want is a normal life, but certain moments in their past seem to manifest themselves into stumbling blocks at every point.

There are a couple of bumps in the road in terms of plot points but it doesn't detract from what is essentially a bit of a gem in the rough.

It's very gritty at times, with a couple of potentially upsetting scenes / revelations. But that's what makes the film an intense experience.

I think the darkest Allen I've seen and probably one of my favourites. Going in, I was expecting this to be a blatant Bergman clone, which certainly is not bad thing but aside from certain scenes, mostly at the beginning, its his own piece. Pretty depressing and bleak which if done well, works wonders for me and this one does. The wedding scene in particular was a highlight.

This movie is still funny as hell and I never get tired of re-watching it....masterful direction by John Landis and a witty and intelligent screenplay, even if it could have used a little trimming. It goes without saying that Eddie Murphy is a comic powerhouse but his Billy Ray Valentine would not have worked without the brilliant work of Dan Aykroyd as the heaped upon Louis Winthorpe III. maybe my favorite Aykroyd performance. Kudos as well to Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche, and especially Denholm Elliott as Coleman.

An Elephant Sitting Still (2018) by Hu Bo

One of the best films since Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010) by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and reminiscent of Tarrs bleak nihilism, this depressive masterpiece is the most interesting film i have seen from 2018. Director Hu Bo unfortunately committed suicide after finalising this debut feature. Its 4 hour running time might scare some viewers away, but it is certainly worth its time. Skillfully cinematography and an interwoven story arch not without the harshness of a depressive worldview, makes it a complex film with rich insights.

Let The Corpses Tan (2017)

Directed by Cattet and Forzani who also made Amer (and others) which was a film I wasn't overly keen on. Pleased to say that I did enjoy this one better. What attracted to me most about this was the title, which could easily be associated with the likes of Bava, Argento and Fulci and also the poster which I do find great. The problem I do have is that its hard for me not to feel duped when the film plays out quite different to that. It plays out like an arthouse neo-western tribute to giallo. It has a simple plot but instead of playing out in real time, it constantly has these cuts in scenes that switch to someone else's POV . This takes a bit of getting used to but I actually ended up really liking it. The visuals and score are where this film really takes hold and they are extremely impressive. A lot of viewers will claim style over substance and they are probably right but I suppose its not always a bad thing, right?

Green Book (2018)

I kind of enjoyed it while I watched it as it had some funny moments. But after the film was over and I started thinking about it, I kind of hated the stereo type caricatures the film presented. It's pathetic that in 2018 Green Book is doing dumb/poor/criminal Italian American stereo types.

I thought this film was about racial positivity, but they presented the Italian's in the film using the old & tired ethnic cliche caricatures. Then there's the whole way over the top characters of Tony the driver who eats like a pig and is stupid as a door knob and of Dr Shirley who's as cold and condescending as they come. I had to scratch my head that they did the old fried chicken bit in this movie:rolleyes: That's something right out of an 1980s movie...And the end scene where Dr Shirley lets his hair down and jams out in the black bar has been done too many times before, it didn't fit his character's personality that he had established in the rest of the film. Green Book felt like a film that might have been made in the 80s or 90s. It had some good moments and a cool car and even tried to deliver a positive message that it takes resolve and guts to stand up for yourself against a bunch of haters...But still, it's hard to believe this won best picture.

'Our Little Sister' (2016)

Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda

https://i.imgur.com/NdYPvZv.gif

This film is about food. It seems to be the focus of almost every scene. Even when there's no actual food in the scene, the characters are talking about buying chopsticks or fruit. What is the significance of this? Family values? Choices? Enjoying the smaller things in life that you take for granted - because they're actually the most important?

This is a beautiful film. Spending time with the 4 sisters in this film was a joy; from discussing cherry blossoms, making plum wine, listening to crickets chirp and eating whitebait on toast. Kore-eda is a master at directing his thoughtful dialogue, this film is as beautiful as it is peaceful. At one point Kore-eda ends a very important scene by cutting to a bowl of unripe plums and fading out. It just works. It makes you think. What is the purpose of it? Are the plums as unripe as the sisters? Do the girls need some form of closure / acceptance of their family before they can really start to fulfil their lives?

The 2 hours and 7 minutes running time just flew by. Mainly due to the dialogue being so curiously effective. The audience is made to think of the backstories and lives that have happened, and to fill in the gaps ourselves. Kore-eda is a master at this. Also, the ending reminded me of 2018's 'Roma'. Which is a good thing.

Essentially, as with most Kore-eda projects, the film is about belonging, the circle of life, family, morals, unconditional love. And food.

The style of the movie totally caught me out here. I'm glad I didn't know how it was filmed as It definitely would have put me off watching, and along with a 3hr runtime it just seemed so daunting. Didn't take long though to get used to the filming and the runtime ended up flying by. Great cast, great ending and a great film.

That looks amazing. Costumes at first made me think of liquorice allsorts 😊, but there's an insect-like quality there too (bees and wasps it seems):

Costumes and Martian set design are definitely the best aspects imo, just a shame they don't feature more as the Earthbound tale is a little underwhelming imo. And yes the 'hive' aspect is most certainly there.

Sadly that still you added is not from the 1924 movie :(

Interesting to get a different take on Martians. We're usually looking at reptilian creatures with green skin :). This looks more visually interesting than the Martians of Flash Gordon as well.

Absolutely, when watching Aelita the first thought that came to mind with the outfits was 'oooh thems be bees' lol. I wouldn't doubt both the set design and outfits had an influence on a few later sci-fi offerings. I couldn't really recommend the whole but worth taking a look just for those aspects imo.

Enthralling (and jaw-dropping) documentary about a free climber attempting to be the 1st person to free climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. It's a great documentary and I think that the makers wanted to maybe create a personality for the protagonist (Alex Honnold) that just wasn't there. Just a driven, single-minded, slightly taciturn (who wouldn't be in his situation) man. Great film and I say that as someone with zero interest in any form of climbing (except social :))

A very well done film by Robert Wise, although the truth is fudged quite a bit. It's one of Susan Hayward's finest ever performances.

I took a date to see this when I was 14, not knowing what it was about. Everyone just went to see whatever was playing in those days. Suffice to say it was our first and last date...:( Just a tad depressing, especially for 1958.

The Death of Mr Lazarescu (2005)

Pretty sad film, especially given that this is apparently based on a true story. I know nothing about the Romanian healthcare system but this is pretty damning! Well crafted and paced really well given the subject matter, runtime and style of filming. I say style as a lot of the film is real time and the POV feels like we are the third person.

A moving film.

I tried watching that movie, because I see EVERY Van Gogh movie, but couldn't be with it til the end. The only good American movie I've seen in 11 years has been one that was released this month, "Room For Rent". Perhaps it's the preponderance of gore, horror, and superhero flicks; or perhaps it's the Politically Cleansed/social justice unwritten quota system; or then again, maybe it's just a dearth of good screenplays..:)

Now that was a very nice science fiction movie. Interestingly that Hollywood does not do movies like this anymore. It felt like Armageddon but done right. Had elements of 2001 and Blade Runner in it as well: a pretty well rounded science fiction movie.

I actually watched this movie a while ago but I noticed I did not rate it here so I decided to rate it. It is the last Godzilla movie of the trilogy of Computer Graphics Animated godzilla movies released by Netflix. I though this one was the best out of the 3 since it focus on what Urobuchi does best: writing pretentious philosophical stuff in a monster movie. Indeed, a lot of fans got mad at the movie because it had too much dialogue and too little action.

Well, this was a more of a simple philosophical exercise regarding hard choices, in this case, the choice of defeating Godzilla but paying the cost by losing, well, everything, if accepting that Godzilla is something mankind will have to live with.

I was afraid it would try and be too much like Superbad, but I thought it distinguished itself enough to be unique and terrific nonetheless. Most of the jokes land, and the message/moral was identifiable yet not heavily pushed upon you. Well, I must confess that I hadn't seen this in years and years when I checked it out from the library the other day. With that said, it has aged well and it's pretty much every bit as good as I remembered it being. The performances are up to par from Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp ("You tell 'em I'm comin' and Hell's comin' with me!"), Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday ("I'll be your Huckleberry."), the ever-reliable Sam Elliott as Earp's brother Virgil ("You're damn right I'll risk it."), the late great Bill Paxton as their brother Morgan ("Do you believe in God, Wyatt?"), and all the rest - there's even Charlton Heston in a bit part and Robert Mitchum as a narrator, the action is thrilling, and the music score is great, too. And Kurt Russell can sure as hell direct if the stories about Cosmatos just sitting back and looking pretty while Russell did the actual directing are true. So, yeah, it's still great.

https://images2.static-bluray.com/reviews/9309_1_1080p.jpg The Killing Fields (1984) - First Time on DVD rating_4_5
Harrowing. That's how I'd describe this one. I can see why Joffé couldn't show everything if what really happened in Cambodia was even worse than this. Believe you me, what's seen in the film itself is not pretty. There's a scene in the latter half where Dith Pran, portrayed by real-life Killing Fields survivor Dr. Haing S. Ngor in an Oscar-winning performance, walks along a path only to find it littered with skeletons and it's scary. It's enough to make one's flesh crawl. Hundreds of the skeletons of the people the Khmer Rouge slaughtered as if they were nothing more than talking cattle. The bastards didn't give two craps if they killed children, either, and as seen in the film, many of the Khmer Rouge's soldiers were children. With that said, it's a really good movie. The acting is great by everyone from Sam Waterston as Sydney Schanberg to Ngor to the great Craig T. Nelson in a bit part as Marine Major Reeves, the music score is good, and the story is still relevant in that it showcases both the horrors of war and the bravery it takes to survive when faced with pure evil, showing humanity at both its best and its worst. Overall, it's a really good movie that's worth watching and ultimately rewarding.

I thought this was a pretty fun time. Slightly better than Avengers 3 IMO. :D

Saw this in cinema when it came out, didn't think it deserved the "tanking" (ahem) it got. Bit sprawling but the start of the comic dudes questioning its authenticity really did for it i think.

I have my issues with this movie, like unnecessary tampering with Frank Loesser's wonderful score and some really strange casting choices...Marlon Brando as Sky Masterson? But there is entertainment value here and Michael Kidd's choreography is outstanding.

Great opening titles. I saw bits of it again about a year ago and I'd forgotten how gorgeous Naomi Watts looked :bashful:.

Enjoyed this mostly because Nic Cage lived up to the hype. He was outstanding as Ed Malus and had us roaring a couple of times especially after he goes undercover in the bear suit. Will surely watch this again sometime.

:):) all this time I thought I was the only one who loves the Nic Cage version

Good to know I'm not alone :D

Your Name (2016) - Rewatch on DVD rating_5
Still incredible. Even better the second time around. I checked this out from the library again, but it's definitely worth buying. Makoto Shinkai has crafted an amazing story and an equally amazing cast of characters, and the animation is wholly stunning. Funimation's English dub is also flawless from top to bottom. ADR directors Michael Sinterniklaas and Audrey Burne (and Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon) herself Stephanie Sheh are excellent as Taki Tachibana and Mitsuha Miyamizu, the two protagonists who switch bodies, genders, and lifestyles at random times and eventually develop feelings for each other through their time in the other's body, which means they switch characters on occasion. Sinterniklaas is especially convincing as a country girl in a city boy's body as is Sheh as the reverse. I love the scene where Taki-as-Mitsuha grabs her dad by the tie and goes, "You son of a.." and also the one where Mitsuha-as-Taki says, "I could live on what these pancakes cost for a month." Credit also has to go to Shinkai for showing their reactions to the switch without feeling the need to be gross about it. They make the characters likable and easy to connect with, capturing every emotion the two leads experience with aplomb. When they feel sad, we feel sad, when they're busting a gut laughing, we're busting a gut laughing, and when they feel relieved, we feel relieved. All the rest, including Laura Post as Miss Okudera, Catie Harvey as Mitsuha's younger sister Yotsuha, Michelle Ruff in a flashback as Mitsuha's mother, are also excellent, the dub script is completely natural, and Sinterniklaas and Sheh make absolutely sure the dialogue matches the animation. The musical score and songs by RADWIMPS are incredible. Especially cool is that lead singer Yojiro Noda, who sings the songs in Japanese, also sings them in English for the dub. My favorites would have to be Dream Lantern and Nandemonaiya, especially the latter, which play over the opening and closing, respectively. With all the pieces in place, Shinkai has crafted a fun and emotionally rewarding film that offers a fresh and unique view on the human condition and certainly deserves all the affection that's been heaped upon it. Arigatō, Shinkai-san. They don't make 'em like this nearly enough.
