What happened? Why were you missing?
I'm absolutely jealous of her willpower. I wanna disappear from this site for exactly a year and come back feeling all loved.
That's what makes you Sexy. Don't try to be like other people. ;)
That's not a change. That was an inevitability.
Godoggo comes back and spits some truth right away.
Good to see you again. :)
I only want an honest answer on one question, were you spying on us? Because I don't think I would be able to help myself.
Glad to have you back here Godoggo :)

No, I honestly did not. One time I checked the shout box when I was debating wether or not to return then, but I never checked the threads. I didn't want to see all of your names and not be able to talk to you and I didn't want to come back until I cleaned my house. (Metaphor)

Oh Sh*t!!! It seems that the procedure didn't go well after all, I must be in some sort of coma and this is all a dream. That's the only one to explain G-dog being back. I can't believe it, you came into my mind just a day or two again and I had been sadly thinking that you were gone for good and that something bad had happened.

Yeah, that's it. It's not why I left though. Not really. It was sort of the aftermath. I was already so stressed out because your thyroid being out of whack really does a lot to your mind and body. It's easy to manage once it's diagnosed though. Anyway, life got super super stressful after that and I didn't do much at all for awhile. Which for me is difficult as I like to stay busy.

I also predict at least one more (maybe more than one, but at least one more) missing MoFo who has not been around in some time is going to return very soon. I have seen this happen before. I call it a "vortex" opening up and spilling out missing MoFos. They all come out at once. There's going to be another one soon. Maybe n3wt since I saw Honeykid wondering where he is. Hell, we may even hear from Caitlyn.
You know what's funny? I'm just now remembering this. You might not believe me, but it's true. Last week, I had a dream about Movie Forums (as I sometimes do), and in the dream, Godoggo came back. In fact, I wanted to tell everyone about that dream in this very thread and I actually wanted to say, "I think Godoggo's coming back soon." I am not making this up. But I've always had a feeling that Godoggo was going to return around the one year anniversary of her disappearance. Sometimes I just have psychic feelings/dreams like that. I can't explain it. It's my nature.

The last time he came back he already sounded fairly different. I think he's one of those people who's actually still changing their ideology in response to argument, even though while arguing they sound like they're completely set in what they believe.
I was thinking it might be someone like Mmmm Donuts. Remember him?
My theory with him has been that he left when he saw some unusually harsh criticism of President Obama. The timing lined up, and it became clear through several exchanges that he hadn't had a lot of exposure to contrary political opinions.

They thought I died? That's tragic. I guess it could have happened. Everyone dies.
Oh, and for advice on how to leave and stay gone it has to be pretty built into your character to want to go and hide when things get rough. Some people want a bunch of social support in times like that, but I want to be alone.
I remember triangles (catching up in one post) telling me he had that job in South Korea. I may do something similar in a year or two.
Yeah, I'm guessing most of us don't leave behind instructions IE: "please go to these sites and tell the people there what happened." I'm sure some regulars that stopped coming around probably passed away, without us knowing (rufnek is one I wonder about sometimes). And in most cases we'll never know.

Hey, the Chappie conversation made me think of an idea for a fun HoF. Movies that are critically panned, but are our personal favorites. To qualify they would have to certified rotten on Rotten Tomatoes or something.
You mean Hall of Shame? :)
Godoggo
04-09-16, 11:36 PM
Yeah, pretty much. But I think even "bad" movies deserve some love. I could see it being pretty interesting and not some suck fest of bad movies. People would have to defend their movies pretty hard and I think the choices would be really personal. You can't just nominate for the win in a case like this, because you would have no idea what would go over.
Not a bad idea. I would be worried about watching a lot of bad movies but I would be in, of course.
Godoggo
04-10-16, 12:25 AM
Well, the hope would be that the person would truly love the movie that they are nominating and not just go for a ridiculously bad movie. I'm always interested when someone articulates why they love a movie I don't especially like then try to see it from their eyes.
Maybe calling these bad movies isn't the best way to go about it, but I don't consider movies like Chappie or Priest (1995) bad movies. Actually Priest is certified fresh with a 63%, but that isn't a great score. If I end up being the one to run this, I'd probably allow anything with a 69% or under in.

This is a great idea for a HoF if people take it seriously and nominate movies that aren't just "so bad they're good" movies. But if it turns into a bad movie HoF, it could be a disaster.

I watched Chappie a few days ago, and I didn't like it. I wouldn't call it a "bad" movie, but it was definitely a "disappointing" movie. (Maybe I just expected too much because Hugh Jackman was in it. )
Oh... ummm... the debate over control of the HOF's was a subject of scandal (and Worst Thread winner) after you left.......
Damn, I need to catch up on some threads. Can someone give me a very edited edition of the thread?
I'm pretty sure that whole HoF scandal was my fault. It got so bad that I actually left the site for a few weeks just to get away from the whole fiasco.
Basically, it started in the Comedy HoF when somebody nominated a gory horror movie, so I dropped out. I didn't ask for the nomination to be changed. I just dropped out.
But then I started a thread requesting that HoF nominations should be in the "spirit" of the HoF that they're nominated in, basically meaning that if it's a "comedy" HoF, the nomination should be considered first and foremost a "comedy" movie, not a "horror" movie. Instead of the thread becoming a discussion, it became an attack, so I just gave up, withdrew my request, dropped out of all the HoFs that I was in at the time, (one of which I was hosting), and left the site for a few weeks to get away from the whole disaster.
With only one exception, (the 50s HoF), I've stayed out of the HoFs since then.

(sorry but any time that number pops up, no matter the situation, that's where my brain goes. It's hardwired)
Anyway that certainly sounds like a fun idea for a HOF. I may actually have to try and pop my HOF cherry for that one.

After all the nominations are in, the song list is randomized and then songs are matched up against each other two songs at a time. There are usually eight matches per set (16 songs), and the winners of each match go on to the next round. Then all the winners are randomized again, and it continues this way until the last song left is declared the winner of the tournament.

Thank you GBG. Maybe Ill be able to do it, but I want to be sure first. I never want to be "that guy" whose always absent.
I guess these other tournaments get heated, Ive never done one other than Survivor. Almost went thru with the OId Fogey one, but wasnt confident I could commit the time necessary. Is it a voting process on each song? I dont see how it can be a stressful thing.
I've seen a bunch of different things get heated for various reasons. Top 100 lists get heated when people (like myself at one point, and other people too) don't like the results. HoF's get heated when people don't like someone's nomination, or when people feel a nomination shouldn't qualify. The Metal thread got heated because the host, SC, was fairly new to Metal and didn't know that much about what qualifies, and a lot of stuff that wasn't Metal got accepted, and then someone got their feelings hurt because they took that as people "hating" on their nominations.
Misunderstandings, butting heads, criticism, you know... the usual.
I just wouldn't want to do a HoF except with only people who's taste I'm compatible with.

Hm, ok I can see it now. I love my top ten, but doubt itd be revered by others. Has anyone ever done a MoFo top ten tournament before? Where every movie on participating MoFos top ten are put up against each other? The duplicate movies in peoples top ten could be done by whoever has site seniority.
Edit in - I was thinking about it and that solution would go over like a lead balloon

Good luck Swan. If you need any tips give me a message. Remember to focus on playing with your wrists. Pretty sure your teacher will tell you that.
In other news, Gatsby hates his mid-term exam preparation period. Doesn't allow him to watch movies or browse MoFo often.

I'm curious about your lessons - if you can drop us a few lines about it.
I'd also be happy to give you a few pointers. I use to play with heavier sticks as an exercise, including switching my entire drum set around, so whatever the left hand/feet do, you'd do it with the right. It screws the brain up, but you'll get used to it, especially when you go back!
Though traditional grip was only used because it was the best way for a soldier to hit his snare (leaning against his leg), I like to mix it up when I practice, just to expand.
I always say.. Rhythm should have melody, and melody should have rhythm. When I started recording 10 years ago, I realized creating music isn't to show off, see how technical you can be, but simply how it sounds.
I promise your guitar playing will expand with many different ways of hitting the strings, bending, etc..
Any reason you are taking lessons as opposed to teaching yourself?
Nobody cares about drums where I'm from. It's all about the darbuka. Guys who play the darbuka get all the girls.

Where I'm from, you have to be ripped, a jock, or an a hole, or all three to get so much a glance from a girl. Basically just be an all around d bag and you'll get any girl you want.

I mean, being good looking or rich definitely helps too. :D

You mean after the lessons? There's not much I can say now... I know the teacher drummed on an album by Al Jardine. So he has some credentials. I've talked to some peeps around town - my guitar teacher and the drum guy at the local music shop - both know him and say he's a great teacher and drummer.
Thanks for the tips, by the way.
Any reason you are taking lessons as opposed to teaching yourself?
Well, for one thing, I just love lessons. I feel like I get a lot out of them, technique-wise and knowledge-wise. My guitar teacher is a theory guru, so I'm learning a lot about that and it's meant a lot of things. There's a noticeable improvement in my playing, I'm far more knowledgable about theory than I was before, and one cool thing is I understand piano better too. He hasn't even mentioned piano, really. Just the fact that I'm learning general music theory means I can translate what he teaches me to piano. So that's neat.
The other thing is, I have no idea where to start. I remember I tried to self-teach myself piano and it was a bummer, and I quickly lost interest. Having a teacher there to guide me not only means a meaningful learning experience and quicker growth, but also continuous inspiration. If I get frustrated... hey, there's someone there to help me through it. I'm less likely to stop practicing if there is someone I have to turn to every week and show what I've learned.
Above all else... I think music is more than anything about having fun, and I have fun playing with and learning from other people. I come out of my shell musically more and more every day - I recently showed some people my terrible singing  - and you know what I attribute it to? It's because I have nothing but passion for music within me. That's all I focus on. I don't care if I'm good, I care that I enjoy doing it. I know if I keep at it, I'll only get better. When you have passion and the courage to grow, no one can stop you.

It's true. The teacher I went to before the one I have now was terrible. I think he came to lessons stoned, and we would sometimes sit there not knowing what to do. Really glad I quit those lessons and found the teacher I have now.

You should try going to Powerviolence/Grindcore shows in dive bars. They just max out the volume levels on everything.
I had an awesome time. MC Ride is obviously so much fun to watch, but it's also fun watching Zach Hill on drums. Dude is incredible. Absolute drumming chaos the whole time, with pretty much zero breaks. I don't know how he does it. I think last night made him one of my fave drummers, as he's able to do drumming in a truly unique way - absolute chaos in a way I feel is visceral and musical.

Thanks Guns. I am. I had my first lesson this recent Tuesday, and it was awesome. I love teachers that get you right into the good stuff, instead of starting you off with boring, easy stuff. Man, I just finished my reviews for The Jungle Book and Hardcore Henry, they took me forever to make.
And I'm sorry to disappoint, but it's only the danish versions. I couldn't even finish Hardcore on deadline. This is why I don't do these no more; I simply don't have the time nor the motivation to do this when I also have a huge work burden beside it as well. But I love movies and I love going to those press screenings and watching the films before anyone else. As long as it's once in a while, I guess I can live with it. It's kind of worth it after all. ;)

Garbage is harsh.
The kid is in his first real movie project, and it's a Disney movie, with a huge huge budget, and he's the only human actor there, and he has nothing to act against, except blue screens and a crew running around him with cameras, microphones, and blue suits yelling "look left" "look right!" - something even professional iconic actors struggle with.
By those standards it was damn Oscar worthy...
But by normal standards, I would say it's pretty much just your typical child acting. Acceptable and sometimes rather uneven.

He has been learning to read for the past two or three years and now wants to write poetry and stories. He is in his 60's and spent his whole life illiterate and just a wants to write just to write and be a better educated person. I think that is freakin' awesome.

Yeah, he let me read this rough draft he was working on. He needs a lot of work in spelling and grammar, but he does have some talent. It was very discriptive and he has that thing that is almost impossible to teach where he really connects with the reader.
He really likes fantasy and mythology, so if anyone knows any good young adult books in that genre let me know.

I was heavy into both. I encourage James Clavells Shogun, a true masterpiece. Whatever you thought you knew about Samurai just throw it out the window cause Clavell is historically sound, and weaves intrigue like a spider.
For Fantasy I suggest NOT the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, but first The Hobbit. Hobbit was the best book of the bunch.
For those of you who are curious, since I only nominate Western songs for tournaments, this is how late 90s Korean pop (which I have a huge soft spot for) sounds like.

How long is the Hobbit? I think it might be a bit too much for him at this point, but I'll definitely put it on my list for the future. I think I might check out one of those Divergent type books and see if they aren't too long. He requested books that are around 200 to 300 hundred pages for you.

My Harper Collins (1993 ed.) pocketbook version is 285 pages with the tale only actually starting on page 13. You'd need to take a look to see how suitable it is for his current level of ability, I can only say I first read the tale as an 11yo child and was totally captivated by it.

Yeah I knew a guy who was illiterate till high school, and his first book was The Hobbit. He adored it, so Im pretty sure youre safe there.
As for Shogun....well the book is thick. I dont know G I think he'd really enjoy it. The writer is from his generation, and its an easy read. If hes a medieval nut then it will hardly be an effort for him. Oh, and its MUCH better than that drizzlin piece of crap Richard Chamberlain mini series they made of Shogun, that was awful. You might like Shogun too if youre a fan of intrigue.
I would recommend Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. That was a very smooth read and an excellent book. Also Pilgrim's Progress is a great book and very accessible and age appropriate.

Maybe try the Redwall series or the Warriors series. I've never been big on fantasy, but have read some of each of these two and they were pretty good. The characters in in the Redwall series are all small animals like mice, rats, badgers, etc. and the Warriors series centers around tribes of feral cats. I like those lyrics, Mr Minio. Let's record that.

I do not want you to take this as me being critical, youre a better artist than I could ever dream of being. It was just so bleak Dude. I mean...youd make little kids cry with that poem. Was your intention heartbreak or outright despair, or did you not know where the poem was going to go?

Pretentious Lovecraftian pseudo-haiku:
Venomous phlegm poured down an elder altar burning the ground below.
Filthy plague spread all around bringing death to everything that lives.

I intended it to be bleak, yeah. Sorry if it upset you a bit, for some reason dark/bleak art doesn't bother me.

Swan, what is your poem about? A suicidal pregnant woman?

No it didnt upset me in any way. The best stuff written is when you literally dont know where its going yourself. Its a gutsy form of storytelling or prose, but its real. You know like that scene in Dead Poets Society when he makes Ethan Hawke close his eyes and just "say it". That was the point I was making.

I have started a poem. Continue it for me:
This Thread Is One Long Poem (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1498138)
Here Ill try some poetry, Im not good.
Oh forum I talk to you and you rarely agree
I seek your approval but youll never know me
How can I detach from something nonexistent?
What draws me to here, why make this commitment?
I have memories, and forgot more
Regardless what I thought Im wiser than before
If I roar and fight Ill be met with silence
I will calm and reflect then hope for guidance
I leave here hoping Ive made others smarter
Its not like its difficult, face to face is harder
In person were guarded, we have our shields, we wait to speak
Here we speak vulnerably, unfettered, and others words we seek
Its a blink in time, a drop in our ocean
We wont have memory of it or a notion
We came to this forum to be heard, not listen
We all learned and felt from the nonexistent.
But aren't you supposed to post it in that thread... not here?

Okay. Here's an actual poem I wrote a long time ago.
It's not a joke, but what was going through my mind when I wrote it.
I've posted it in other places on the Net, so I'm sure it's probably been stolen a dozen times, but anyway, here it is...
SWINGING:
Sunlight flickers back & forth across my face
swinging, swinging, swinging
Last warm rays of setting sun seen from half-closed eyes
swinging, swinging, swinging
Sweetly chirping birds echo in the distance
swinging, swinging, swinging
Children laugh and play on the seesaw not far away
swinging, swinging, swinging
Evening air so cool passing over my skin, back & forth
swinging, swinging, swinging
Ground below moves beneath me, back & forth
swinging, swinging, swinging
From high to low, first fast then slow
swinging, swinging, swinging
Heartbeat pulsing in my head fast then slow then fast then slow
swinging, swinging, swinging
Childhood dreams running through my mind
swinging, swinging, swinging
Legs kick out, in then out, above the ground, back & forth
swinging, swinging, swinging
Three feet above the ground as things slow down
swinging, swinging, swinging
Muscles relax, momentum slows, light goes
swinging, swinging, swinging
Eyes close as the warm sun sets in the cool evening air
swinging, swinging, swinging
Can hardly feel the Noose around my neck now
swinging, swinging, swinging.

That's funny. What did you say to upset him?

That's awesome. You're way better than me when it comes to rhyming poetry. I have a hard time with that stuff. It's easy to make rhyming feel gimmicky and cheesy, and yours doesn't feel like either, so well done.

If you had to deal with him during a Survivor game (and I dealt with him during TWO) you would understand.

Here is the poem I wrote today. It's a short one, but Funny Face said it's her favorite of mine so far.
------
I can't tell if the skull
is smiling
or anxious
or scared
Though surely it has been
all those things
once

The skull is smiling. Your skull is always smiling. Always remember that even during your toughest, saddest, darkest moments in life -- your skull always has a smile on its face. Your own skull -- this thing inside your head -- is laughing at you. Laughing at your pain. For the skull knows that every sadness you experience is nothing. Nothing at all. Nothing can compare to the death that will eventually come to you. Nothing will be worse than your own death. The skull is smiling. The skull is laughing at your pain. The skull knows. The skull is always ready to smile to the world. Your default face is a smile. Your default face is a laugh. You are a comedy right down to your bones.
You'd be a good poet, Sexy.
Here is a poem I wrote years ago. It's actually a song that I have a melody for, but never put instrumentals to it. Or at least not yet. Someday I may get around to it. I haven't played much guitar or done much song writing in the past year. The last time I recorded a song was December 2012.
This day,
Started off so lovely,
But as the darkness drew,
My life seemed to fade away,
And my shadow grew,
To cover all the Earth.
Then I awoke,
Only to realise I had not been dreaming,
And my face was just,
A mask worn by a demon.
Five thousand empty eyes stare,
Into my window tonight.
Their hollow gaze brings,
No answer to my questions.
Tonight,
I lie awake,
I cannot sleep,
I cannot dream.
Tonight,
My darkest fears,
Become reality.
And all I see,
Are the dying dreams,
Of people just,
Like you and me,
Washed up on shore,
With the debris,
And the memory of,
All the things we loved,
That now,
Are,
Gone,
Fed to the fire,
Of our desire,
To live forever.
The stars explode,
And so will ours,
But those who say,
Nothing lasts forever,
Have never,
Known.
These riddles boggle the mind.
These traps catch me every time.
It's so hard to see when I'm blind.
Tonight's looking grim for me.
So teach me to see,
So I can believe,
In a better tomorrow,
In life after death,
A paradise called heaven,
Eternal bliss.
I was reminded of an artist by my sister. Brian Andreas. Growing up we had three of his works, including this one -

running up the stairway. It's funny reading his work how much I relate to what he wrote on his paintings. Must be some sort of subconscious thing, like... reading them all the time made them click in my own brain. I especially respond to this one, though it's not one I've seen until now:

Just my 2 cents. Not my best work as it took a minute to think of.
So I am with my boys at the bowling alley and my seven year old asks if he can play a song, sure why not. We start looking through the list and he points to Rock Star by Nickleback. I say "you know this song?" Yep, that's the one he wants. Music starts, he starts singing along and dancing. Where the hell did he hear this song? I'm either horrified or proud, probably both.

I've officially seen all the Chucky movies.
How would you rank them all?
Well, I saw the first one when I was a youngster, so my friend and I are rewatching it tomorrow so we can officially rank them. But right now (with the first being speculatively placed), I'd rank them thusly:
1. Seed of Chucky
2. Curse of Chucky
3. Child's Play 3 (I'm giving this the edge over the first Child's Play, only because De Silva is my favorite non-Tiffany/Tilly female of the series)
4. Child's Play
5. Bride of Chucky
6. Child's Play 2
Just felt like posting these. Enjoy.
