Some of the worst sunburns happen in winter because people are less careful about protecting themselves. If you're outside in the daytime, then you're getting exposed to the sun. The season makes no difference.
Now that I discovered these calcium/magnesium pills i can eat pretty much anything. but definitely no BBQ or mustard. Anything with acidity was a big problem.

Must be a California thing. I've never worried about it here. I remember when I went to California, I thought I got more sunburned than usual.

Or you could just use sunscreen if you're going to be outside.
Seriously though, regardless of where you are, you should wear sunscreen anytime you're going to spend significant time outside. Even if you don't get actually burned, the sun will damage your skin and increase your risk of melanoma.

I'd need a haircut and to dye my mustache again for a new picture. (it's always had a lot of white hair) so that'll happen whenever I'm ready to film.

One time I hooked up with this older lady.. the skin on her chest was kind of gross but her breasts were still really nice. You could really tell the toll that the sun had taken.

Yeah burgers without ketchup or bacon is really depressing.
I could eat American cheese at least.
Crispy chicken tenders are great with ketchup too.
Special sauce as a substitute wasn't an option.

Normally the letter I, T and V will tell you its crap. But it does appear that they've gotten their act together over the last few years, so maybe there's some hope for it. There again, I thought Ripper Street was pretty pointless, too. Like BBC does ITV. :D

We have a few pet stores around here that specialize in exotic animals, including reptiles, so I've seen them in the stores, but I don't think I'd enjoy a whole day of seeing them. I prefer cute and cuddly animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc.

This store specializes in birds, so there are always a lot of different kinds of birds in the store. He has a whole room full of them.
I don't remember ever seeing any monkeys in the store here, although I'm sure there have been some at times, but there are always some exotic animals that I've never seen before that I have to ask what kind of animal they are. (I never remember their names, but they're usually some kind of rodent-type of animal.)
Recently he's had sugar gliders there. They're adorable.

Seriously good brother. You got talent.
Thanks man. I have been finding that my best work are these more ambient shoegaze post-rock type tunes. I think that's where my strength lies.
And that whole thing came together pretty quickly after I made the bassline. I don't know what it is about the bass, it really inspires me. I love the sound, and it can be a great underlying foundation for a song, or it can be the lead of a song. I actually find I'm better at making melodies on the bass than the guitar. Both are great instruments, but bass is definitely underrated compared to it's six-string counterpart.
I think it goes back to this song by Yes. I remember hearing it when I was younger, and it left quite an impact on me.

Yeah, but people say that about every genre they don't have an ear for.
After watching all this american horror story I think I'm going to write something dark.. maybe get a little bit creepy and weird.
Sounds like every other post-rock there is.
I agree. I'm still developing my own musical style. I find with being a musician there's a lot of mimickry before you form your own style. We are our influences, really.
What effects are you using?
A lot of reverb. :p
Yeah, but people say that about every genre they don't have an ear for.
That's a really good point, but I think in this case Minio is a big fan of post-rock.
Thing is, I'm not a master musician yet and I don't claim to be. I'm still finding my voice. And I love that, it's like an adventure. I'd argue most of my stuff is pretty generic, but it goes back to what I was saying. Mimicking your influences is an integral part to being a growing musician.
It's interesting stepping back and realizing what my strengths are. Basically, I think I can actually do a better "generic post-rock ambient song" than a "generic IDM song". I love IDM, but I'm not great at making it myself. There are things I find I naturally gravitate towards, and right now most of it sounds like Sigur Ros or Eluvium. :p

Holy moly, my trv n kvlt amp only has treble and bass knobs. Only sellouts need anything more. I don't even need a metronome! Playing unevenly is my second name! But who cares! I record my music with a calculator, so you can't even hear it's uneven and out of key since it's one big WALL OF SOUND. Oh yeah, I'm pretty black metal
I'm not following what you just said. You're confusing me. Shut up!
Mr Minio
01-10-16, 09:11 AM
I need makeup tho... I mean corpse paint!
I don't know how much of a subtle point your making with your humor Minio.
But, Swan, I did detect a bit of the reverb masking some less than pristine playing. Well, I am not as good as you, but I remember my instructor making a point of not having slight stops and breaks from note to note. It should be smoother and more continuous. So if you can use less distortion effects that mask those subtle errors it will show your skillful playing more, but of course don't hesitate to use effects for beautiful sounds. It's a hard balance, but I want to encourage you to push yourself very hard and strive to achieve your full potential. You have a lot of potential. I think you're on the right track.
Okay so my new story is called Captivity.
I'm writing about a guy that kidnaps a girl and keeps her chained up in his basement.

Hey Foster you should see the torture story I started on my blog. So far the person has been drugged, their eye lids removed and mouth sewn...I got a lot more ideas to type out. If only you could get away with the stuff. Damn!

Always worth a shot when you have an idea that appeals to you. I've started plenty of scripts that were sh*t, it's no biggie.
I think it was Ernest Hemingway who said something like, he would write 100 pages and 99 of them would be trash. That's one of the things I live by. You make a lot of sh*t and every once in a while, will make something decent.

thats the opposite of how I usually work but I need to start writing more often. I'm ridiculously slow.
For one location and only 2 actors it's a great situation for potential drama so it's very appealing to me as an indie film maker

Haven't seen enough to comment on the films, all i'll say is i'm happy Minions wasn't nominated.
In TV i hope but doubt Narcos or Mr Robot wins, i'm guessing Game of Thrones will take that. Orange is the New Black and Silicon Valley are the only two i have seen in the Comedy side so i'm not really bothered what wins there, just glad at least one award show got over Modern Family. The only person i care about in acting is Jon Hamm hope he wins, must say though it is pretty annoying that Jonathan Banks wasn't even nominated.

Putting quotation marks around it only draws attention to it.
Also there is no reason to censor the word. It's not a profane word and is appropriate to use on this forum. Acts of rape occur in many types of film and television. It's not limited to horror or "perversion films" (whatever those even are).
It has potential, I bet something will come to me this week.

The first 4 were released theatrically.
5-9 weren't. They're not that good, in my opinion. 5-8 are like "Tales from the Crypt" episodes in the Hellraiser world, each featuring about 5 minutes worth of Pinhead making an appearance.
9 is the first to have Doug Bradley not play Pinhead, but it's actually the closest in tone to Hellraiser 1-4 than 5-8 were. But only a little closer.

Love Clive Barker and grew up reading his books. I read everything up to Coldheart Canyon before his formula started to wear a bit thin.
Only seen 1-3 in the Hellraiser series though. I gave up after a friend told me to skip part 4. Surprised to hear there are nine in total.
The original is the only one I think is genuinely classic. Part two is borderline dull and unimaginative considering it's set in hell, and the more commercial third tries to turn the cenobites into a group of comic book slasher villains.

The newest Clive Barker book, The Scarlet Gospels, actually has Pinhead in it.
I read it. It was, in a way, a huge letdown, considering there was, like, 15 years of anticipation and hype for the book, which Clive said was gonna be massive. It wasn't. And it wasn't filled with massive Hellraiser revelations, either. It was actually very cheesy and stupid... but because of that, it actually seemed like an actual Hellraiser sequel. A good... so bad it's good Hellraiser sequel.
More and more these days, I think of Clive Barker as a very flaky man. An exaggerator, someone who promises more seriousness and more greatness than he actually delivers. There are rumors (actually there was a court case involving an ex-boyfriend) that he has HIV and he always denies it, even though he's been terribly sick the past couple of years. His fans are all like, "Stop saying Clive has HIV!" I know he does but he won't admit it.

Most people recommend getting ahold of the Hellraiser graphic novel series that ran in the early 90's. There's a new series now, and I liked what I saw of it, but the SERIOUS crowd recommends the early '90s graphic novels. Which I recommend, too, actually.

The graphic novels were the only thing that continued the mythology established in Hellbound, with Leviathan and the labyrinth of Hell and the whole order of the cenobites. Dark, nihilistic type stories.
Does the new series contradict the old comic series, or is it the same mythos?

It's all very fan fiction-ish. The Hellraiser crowd, last I heard, despises the newer comics. They did change some things around.
Just have fun with it. Don't take it all so seriously. Hellraiser fanatics think the straight-to-video movies were BETTER than parts 3 & 4 simply because Pinhead is barely in them. Gimme a break. The straight-to-video movies were for the most part boring.

As for Barker's private life I'm always disappointed when I read these kinds of stories. I mean it's obvious he's gay from his books (Sacrament in particular) and that's what gives many of them that extra edge. His penchant for wearing black leather bondage gear in interviews back in the 90's was another, less subtle indicator. I just don't want to know about the private scandals and serious illness. I've already lost one hero today.

Yeah. I'm not one of those guys who thinks "YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO MUSIC ON VINYL," it's just a personal preference for me. I've found this vinyl stuff to almost be a lifestyle change, because there's so much care involved (compared to, say, MP3) and there's the physical copy and taking them out of their sleeves and all that. I mean, the extra care might be inconvenient (http://i.imgur.com/n4pwIG3.jpg) for some people, but I love it. And I love that it encourages me to listen to an album in full.
I'm fine listening to stuff on CD and MP3. MP3 kind of sucks because it's compressed, but that's no big deal unless you're a big audiophile. I'm not really picky when it comes to audio quality. It's like that saying, "audiophiles listen to the gear, not the music."
Nothing against audiophiles. It's just a different interest.
I listen to music on my iPod almost .

Hellraiser was actually inspired by Clive Barker's visits to gay leather/S&M clubs. That's what the cenobites basically are -- they're undead, supernatural sadomasochists from Hell. The original title of the movie was Sadomasochists from Beyond the Grave.
I see -- though many would disagree with this -- Hellraiser, in fact, as an allegory for a man getting AIDS. Many people think it's about exploring sexuality and being open to different sexual experience. I think it's about the dangers of sexual exploration. It's about a man (Frank) who goes too far and can't go back to what he was. He wastes away to bone, then attacks other men and kills them by drinking their blood, wasting away all of them to bone. It's an AIDS parable. Hellraiser is deeper than you think, I believe. I don't know if Clive Barker intended it to be so, but I think that's what's going on with it. Clive Barker was a man who pushed himself to the limits with sex. It's no surprise to me that he apparently has HIV now.

Oh - is Hellraiser: Bloodline as bad as Jason X?
That's hard to say. Jason X makes more sense than Hellraiser: Bloodline. Bloodline doesn't completely take place in outer space. It's a wrap around story that begins and ends in space. The middle part takes place in the 1700's and in 1996. It's a movie about the descendant of the man who made the puzzlebox, who built a space station. He gets arrested and interrogated and he tells the lady the story about his ancestors and what they did. Then at the end of the movie, his space station turns into a giant puzzlebox and blows up with Pinhead inside it. Sorry to spoil the movie.

Bloodline was 1996. Jason X was 2001. Jason X was riding the tails of other space horrors -- Critters 4, which was 1992. Though that series was always kinda space themed -- that was just the one that actually took place in space.
There was Leprechaun 4: In Space. For some reason, part 4 is always the outer space movie. That came out in 1997.

I don't have (and refuse to get) a cell phone and I can't access YT when I'm walking, so I need an iPod or something similar.

That's why I can kinda understand the whole vinyl record comeback -- 'cause I don't need really anything except Youtube. So everyone now has just gone back to the beginning of music because we've definitely seen the end, I think.

I can go to Youtube with the Maven too, as long as I'm someplace that has free wi-fi, which is almost everywhere around here nowadays. :)

I don't think it matters how you listen to music as long as you're listening to music.
I scoff at those non-music listeners. :tsk: :D

Going to Youtube isn't a great option. It's just what I'm happy with. I have an old iPod. It's semi-broken, semi-not. It's the kind Miss Vicky's talking about, with the wheel. It's 10 years old. I loved it when I first got it.

If I was, ya know, smart and resourceful, maybe I would do that. But I'm just a mindless hipster sheeple. :p
It was as simple as 1-2-3. Just use your computer to drag and drop the mp3 files onto the micro-SD card, and then insert the card into the slot in the Maven. The music player automatically found the music files as soon as I clicked on it. :)

I'm too cheap to get one. I hate texting. I hate talking on the phone. I have no real social life, so if someone needs to reach me, they can call me at home or at work. If I am actually out, chances are I'm with FF so if it's an emergency and someone needs to reach me, they can call her.
I had a cell phone at one point. I almost never used it and decided it wasn't worth keeping so I got rid of it.

I want the boombox to come back. I miss the big, heavy boombox with the handle and all my cassette tapes. That was my favorite music delivery system. It was also the easiest way to make your own mix tape. Which I used to obsessively do. I used to record myself speaking on these tapes and act like a DJ.
I hate talking on the phone too. I don't know why.

I totally got the inspiration for the cenobites, and as Barker is originally from Liverpool; there have been numerous British documentries made about him. The best retrospective (whilst quite old now) was an episode of The South Bank Show that originally aired on ITV in the UK about fifteen years ago. Fascinating look at his life and art when he was at the peak of his popularity.
Your take on Hellraiser is one I've not heard before and makes a lot of sense considering Barker's lifestyle, and when the film was made. I recently picked up the Anchor Bay blu ray for $4 and have the trilogy on dvd so may give them a rewatch before Bloodline. Your further description plus spoilers of that one sounds awful, but I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

I understand. Sometimes I wish I could get rid of almost all of my social life too and just be in peace, but that's currently impossible for me.

This year is actually the 20th anniversary of when Hellraiser: Bloodline came out. It was released here on March 8, 1996. I went to see it on Saturday, March 9, 1996. I was obsessed with the movie for the rest of the year and onward. I mean, I had seen the others, of course, but I was obsessed with that one at the time. I had the movie poster and everything. I still have the soundtrack on CD.

I think a lot of people our generation do. There's a certain appeal to ridding yourself of technology and possessions and just feeling at peace.

I hate talking on the phone because it's my job to talk on the phone. I do it all damn day at work, I don't really want to do it on my time off.
Though talking on the phone to FF doesn't require much effort. You just hold the phone to your ear and throw in a word or two here and there. She does the rest.
Also, not having a cell phone makes it much easier to dodge calls from the office. "Oh you called me? Sorry, I wasn't home." :D

I picture that constantly shifting from awkward to awesome, and then sometimes both, at a very rapid pace.

I could barely understand what he was saying. I kept going, "What??? What????" Cause his accent can be hard to decipher.
Did he says "cheers" at the end?

No. He was surprised at how deep my voice was, but could still detect gayness in it (which I completely understood), and he thought I was quieter than normal. I did manage to ask him if he was watching Young Guns.

No. Another thing he did was laugh at how I said "liquor." You know, we Americans say it like "licker." But not him. It's LIQ-UOURRRRR.

Well, I said liquor in my American accent. He laughed and thought it was funny how I said it.
He referred to it as "spirits" -- saying they call them spirits. Which I've heard before, of course.

I tried to get Rodent back on the phone again for a 3 AM liaison, totally not even caring that it was Christmas morning, but he had just woke up and who wants to get a wake up call from Sexy Celebrity on Christmas morning?
I haven't started writing the new version of my horror script yet.. still outlining it in my head.
I have real characters now, and a changing relationship between them. It's turning into a really fun project.
Hey Foster, you should have the tortured woman in the basement escape and run to the cops. And then when the cops show up and investigate the place they basically find it abandoned and the investigation winds down without solving the case. Then, as a pair of detectives (one male and one female) are mulling over things one last time at the crime scene, the killer emerges from the shadows, kills the male detective and abducts the female detective and tortures her.
You have my permission to use my idea. :D
