That's not porn though, is it?
I feel like you need a sex scene or simulated sex scene for it to be porn.
Just nudity alone shouldn't be enough...

I bought Season of the Witch at Shoppers Drug Mart for $5. When I got to the cash I told the lady it wasn't for me in that embarrasing lie to hide the fact that I would ever actually buy such a horrible movie for myself. She didn't pick up on it at all. She actually responded with, "You don't want to buy it?"
I said, "Oh no, I'm buying it. It's just not for me, I'd never buy a movie like that for myself."
She replied, "Oh no, that's okay." In the most sincere way.
When my friend and I started laughing she got really embarrassed for not detecting my thick sarcasm for so long. Then for the rest of the time she was serving us she completely avoided looking at us, and she kept turning away and looking off to the side.
This movie looks like the makers saw The Seventh Seal and really liked the witch scene, and after starting the project realised it wasn't going to turn out well but still had to begrudgingly finish it.
i liked season of the witch. i wasn't expecting to but it won me over.
I have a feeling I've actually already seen it. The images on the back look familiar, and the premise sounds familiar too.

:o
cage was one of my favorite actors at one point . IDK why or what I was thinking
I was a teenager.
It's sad to see Cage in so many cringe-worthy b movies these days. Given the right direction, he's a wonderful actor.
I put A Serbian Film in my PS3 and the intro looked weird. While the credits were playing the cinematography and music sounded like something from the 70's. Then the title came up: Strange Shadows in an Empty Room.
Yeah... The guy at the video store gave me the wrong movie lol. Good thing I also rented Nekromantic! I at least have something to watch.
Well, Nekromantic was interesting. Especially the ending, but I was hoping for better acting considering the reputation the movie has as a cult classic.
Bon Iver is more than music. Bon Iver is spagett.
Holocene was pretty boring. Great production quality, but too slow and soft for my taste.
I don't like much Indie, and I like even less Folk.
Swan, do you like the band Deerhoof?
Bon Iver is life!
Dunno Deerhoof.

It's just the way a couple people talked about the movie did set my expectations very high.
I think cult films contain the full spectrum of quality, from talentless crap to mastrrwork.
People build up Nekromantik definitely. I like it a lot personally, just for it's weirdness and grimyness.
I realy like this Deerhoof song:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9ezA8mTWXNM
Never heard of Nekromantik before this but from what i read i would have expected awful acting.
I definitely liked Nekromantic. For some reason I have the urge to fo something kinky with the recently deceased body of an attractive woman... I have no idea why...
The Crust band Charles Bronson said during a recorded live show, and I'm paraphrasing a bit, "We like our women old. So old you have to dig them out of the ground first."
Never heard of Nekromantik before this but from what i read i would have expected awful acting.
I was sold on certain people's enthusiasm. I avoided reading up on it so I could go in blind.
I would have went in blind knowing that i was expecting Shaq level performances at best.
Watched because of Justin Vernon, stayed for The Staves. Gotta get this album.

Okay, I just got it. Gonna listen.
I think Justin Vernon is Midas reincarnated.
Well, the bad acting didn't ruin it for me. I just observed that the acting was pretty bad. Acting is one of the most important things to me, so I usually mention it.

It doesn't have much action until the short final battle but what makes the film entertaining is the overall atmosphere. Proyas did a great job of putting together deep focus shot of oblique skies and dimly-lit streets. It's also a film that constantly asks what make us humans, which provides a nice philosophical theme.

You think Edge of Tomorrow was the best film of 2014?
Somebody please shoot me.
Absolutely. I've probably seen it half a dozen times now.
It's not even a particularly good movie. It's just a stereotypical Hollywood Blockbuster action movie with expensive over the top special effects, little substance, and mediocre acting/cinematography/directing.
If that's the definition of quality then I don't want to live anymore.

Cruise, Blunt, Gleeson and Paxton were all on point.
The special effects were amazing with 90 and 110lb practical suits.
The combination of action and comedy was blissful and the pacing was top notch.

This board is dead when there's no survivor or countdown going.
Ive been going thru a decompression chamber like withdrawal all day. Been zoned in on running that game this past month now my brains a balloon with no string.
So... I poked my head into Zootopia because my friend, who I went and saw The Brothers Grimsby and The Witch with, forced me to. So I watched about half an hour to forty five minutes of it, and I wanted to kill myself. I typically don't pay any attention to these kind of movies. I can't stand them. I mean it's great if you're like ten years old I guess, but the theater was full of 20-something Asian and East Indian couples who constantly laughed and chuckled at random stuff that either wasn't even actually trying to be remotely funny, or was just outright failing at trying to be funny. Like this scene where a sloth talks really slowly and the "rabbit" is constantly saying what he's going to say before he finishes but still has to wait. It was like saying the same joke 20 times in a row, except it wasn't even funny the first time, and half the theater was laughing all twenty times. I got more amusement watching the guy next to me laugh like an idiot than I did from the movie. It was actually unbearable. I almost fell asleep twice. And I kept getting the Heebie-Jeebies.
This board is dead when there's no survivor or countdown going.
We need a few crazy SC threads until Survivor 5 starts.
I feel like I'm a pretty decent editor.. I know I've overcome some really ****** mistakes in production and produced stuff that you wouldn't be able to tell.. but man I hate this stuff. editing sucks .. 15 takes that all look pretty similar but i feel compelled to watch and analyze every second of each of them
I'm really excited for King of Cups, Terrence Malick's new movie which is starting in theaters this weekend. I have to work the weekend, but I'm planning to see it this week.
I also really want to see Spotlight with Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber.

Why does that matter?
I don't really know how to answer that. To me the answer is obvious, but if it's not obvious to you then I can't even begin to comprehend how to explain it.
You don't think being the first missionary to a country matters?
Or did you just want to know why I think it matters?
Didn't he kill a bunch of Pagans and convert the rest to Christianity or something?
I don't know about that, but I studied him briefly in a class on the first four centuries of the history of the Church. He was captured and enslaved by the Irish, and later he went back to share the Gospel with them.
St. Patricks Day is supposed to be an Irish celebration anyway, i have plenty of Irish Atheist family members who fully celebrate the holiday because it is a tradition of their country rather than it being a religious holiday.

With so many legends surrounding Saint Patrick, how can anybody really be sure who or what he actually did? Positive or negative. Some think he is a monster, and some think he is metaphorically (because he is literally) a saint.

It couldn't hurt. I'm drinking Arizona Green Tea. Well... I'm at work so... I can't drink. Usually I'm most active on the forums when I'm at work because I have so much down time, but when I'm off I usually keep busy. When I'm off I like to drink beer! Mmmm... nothing like a cold refreshing beer or three or four or five or maybe even six to sit down with a movie.
I rented Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice, Moodysson's Together, and Loach's Sweet Sixteen. And I bought Angst on blue ray, so I'm really excited about that. It's got a 40 page booklet and a bunch of extra special features including some extended scenes.

I listen to mostly country music. I also love showtunes, and easy listening.
My "go-to" song when I've had a bad day is Eddy Arnold's "Make the World Go Away" (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A3caNwl4EtE).
My newest favorite song is Michael Ball's "Someone Else's Dream" (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A_-vBgJ2WKc). I heard it for the first time a few days ago, and I fell in love with it.

I have the song playing in the background right now. It's not something that I'd put on my mp3 player, but it's a pretty good song. I like the lead singer's voice.
If you like listening to new music, we have a lot of song tournaments here. The current one is the "Scattergories Song Tournament", where each person who joined picked a category, and nominated songs in that theme. Then the person running the tournament randomized the songs and set up the matches, and the songs go up against each other until one song eventually wins the tournament.
It's too late to join that tournament because it's already started, but the next one will probably be the British Song Tournament, where the songs all have to be sung by British artists. That one will start sometime after the current one ends. People have already started posting their nominations.

If you like drinking songs, country music has tons of them, but a lot of them are sad songs about drinking to forget or get over a bad breakup.

And I rented three masterpieces, but I'm watching Game of Thrones because I like Maisie Williams so much...
Man the cinematography in Game of Thrones is so bad it reminds me of Star Wars Ep. III: Revenge of the Sith. Game of Thrones may as well have been directed by George Lucas with all it's cliche over the shoulder dialogue shots and formulaic scenes that prioritise average Joe audience reactions over plausibility and realism.
Makes me wonder what I'm doing watching this.... -Fast forwards to the next Arya Stark scene-

Anyway people can say realism.. it's just "fantasy realism" or magic realism or whatever the term is.
honeykid
03-21-16, 07:05 PM
Fair enough. :)
Realism is just an adjective that can be measured in degrees. Dragons may not exist but what should be realistic is the way characters behave and interact with each other and the way events unfold. Take the openining scene of season one for example. The ranger sees a white walker and runs south of the wall without going back to the wall... Does that mean he ran on foot all the way around the Western end of the massive wall? It's absurd.
So I'm trying to ditch my DAW (music software) and go full hardware. The cool thing is.... I'm watching YouTube vids where these guys take vintage equipment, like an old four track cassette recorder or something, and do really cool, weird, experimental things with them. One guy took apart a single cassette recorder and used the innards to do some really wild stuff.
It's f*cking so inspiring, and a good lesson in that you don't need a ton of super expensive new equipment to make interesting sounds/music.
Also, this guy has the single best YouTube channel.

How ironic - I came on here to take a break from recording/editing. I've used this for over 10 years. I don't even have to use a computer, there's a built-in CD burner. 8-tracks, and you can record 2 simultaneously.
I even thought of how to create ADT (Automated-Double-Tracking) - you can clone a track, then I thought to delete one tenth of a second of one of the cloned tracks, and it gives it that doubled-sound, though I prefer to just play it (for guitar bends, different octaves, harmonizing).
My friend thinks it's pre-historic, but I like things as organic as possible. It does have reverb that you can add to an individual track afterwards, and I admit to using it, but then again, I can create that sound if I had a long enough wire and a loud amp, so I don't feel it's cheating :)
http://media.musiciansfriend.com/is/image/MMGS7/DP-01FX-CD-8-Track-Hard-Disk-Recorder-with-CD-Burner/240492000000000-00-120x120.jpg
Here's one of the tracks I made with this machine. I hook up the electric guitar, bass, and keyboard directly, and use a condenser microphone to record the drums first, acoustics, and other percussion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BItgJltMUA
IMO nothing is cheating in production. Using the technology to enhance your songs, however you can... I mean, that's what you want to do.
That's what I'm interested in. In Ableton, you have everything built in - transposition, reverb, delay, pitch, speed, etc. I want to find ways of doing that stuff with hardware. I watched a vid where a guy used two cassette recorders to create "natural" delay (as in, no delay pedal or anything). I thought that was amazing. I want to see what I can do by doing that kind of stuff.

So she didn't want to be naked in the film, or what?
She was fine with nudity. But she didn't want to profit off it.
I thought that having nudity as the selling point for an R rated version was a stroke of genius but she said it made it seem pornographic to exploit nudity for financial gain.
She said the script was super intense. so i guess that is a compliment, idk.
my creativity is under appreciated .

Well, she took (or was going to take) money for getting naked on the screen. Isn't this a form of pornography as well following her train of thought?
Well, she took (or was going to take) money for getting naked on the screen. Isn't this a form of pornography as well following her train of thought?
I wasn't going to pay her, I was going to split the profits with her. But yeah she just wasn't comfortable with the marketing specifically I suppose. It's too bad, I thought I had found my uma thermon.
It's such a twisted psychological horror I don't think I can get a girl to do it that doesn't know me. She'll read the script and think I'm some kind of freak if that is her first impression.

I really hope things will go better soon I'm starting to go crazy...
Me too
I took a sick day tonight because I had hunger pangs yesterday and my stomach was killing me. So today I went to a Mexican bar, drank four beers and had two doubles of Tequilla, dry.
I was reading A Clash of Kings and started talking with the bartender about Game of Thrones, Movies, and video games. His dream was to become an electrician, and his name was John. His mother was Mexican and his dad was Asian. It was a family owned bar/restraunt.
Good times.
The beauty of a full time job and paid sick days.
Well the procedure was a success this time, even if not particularly pleasant. So I do now have a catheter sticking out of my nose that is taped to the side of my face and down to a monitor at my side. Although the monitor is pretty huge. I was picturing this tiny, miniscule thing like a pedometer that would just clip to my belt. It's more like an old-school Star Trek tricorder that Spock would carry about
I'm already counting down the minutes until I get it removed tomorrow, finding it very uncomfortable and odd feeling.

good to hear it was a success. Sucks to hear it's uncomfortable though.
It looks like I'm ignoring JayDee, but I sent him a personal comment earlier.
Thanks everyone. Although I think Yoda and GS are going a little overboard. It wasn't an operation, more a procedure/test. First they inserted a cathetar through my nose to go into my esophagus. Was quite tricky though, took a while to finally push it through my nose. When they did and it went past the throat I felt the horrible urge to vomit. With that in they made me drink lots of water and then take spoonfuls of custard to test my muscles and contractions when it comes to swallowing. After that it was the cathetar shoved in that's to stay for 24 hours and monitor my acidity levels
But yes MV, it is extremely uncomfortable. Every so often depening on my breathing or if I swallow or drink something the cathetar will sort of move and give a really sharp pain. And I've got a constant irritation in my throat. It feels like a little toothpick is sitting horizontally there, jabbing into the front and back of my throat. Been gagging and retching all day
Can't wait to get it out. About 9 hours to go!
It looks like I'm ignoring JayDee, but I sent him a personal comment earlier.

I missed the college game yesterday, was planning to watch the last few minutes, but instead watched old Carson re-runs (had Maureen O'Hara, after 20 years being retired, with John Candy). It's great seeing new actors, and seeing if they made it or not. I also saw a Jodie Foster one, when she's 20. I was wondering if she would be asked about "boys" (as she is a lesbian).. Johnny asked her about marriage, she didn't seem opposed, just said "Not now" and then said "I think more about having children"
The NBA regular season is winding down, and my team (Detroit Pistons) are on TNT tonight. Only a few games left before the playoffs, and it would be our first time in 7 years!
The Wisconsin Primary is today - I hope Bernie Sanders win! I also hope Trump wins, I think Cruz is more dangerous.

I am indeed catheter free. :yup: So happy to be rid of it. I've never been so happy to blow my nose! All yesterday I could feel loads of snot building up and running down but I didn't dare blow my nose in case the catheter came with it. Came back and just crashed out on my bed for quite a few hours as I hadn't really slept much. Hopefully one of the tests will show up something so I finally have some sort of answer to my problems.
Anyway I think I'm off to lie down for another wee while
