I'm going to have to think about it though. Lately, my thoughts on guitar playing have been around two things.

1. Guitar tone. I am loving the sludgy stoner metal guitar tone, that thick Black Sabbathy tone. I almost want to put a guitarist like Tony Iommi on there just because of his influence and because of his amazing guitar tone.

2. I've completely changed in the sense that I don't want to play smooth anymore. The things I'm starting to admire in guitar playing are raw energy and imperfect playing. Hence the avatar. No longer do I seek perfect technical proficiency. Instead, I seek character and personality in my playing.

Will have to ponder which guitists inspire me the most now.

Metal is an expansive genre and one that takes investment for a time. But yeah, I know I need to break this obsession with metal.

You want slavery to make a comeback?

well, you're letting a label possibly obstruct what could become an interesting discussion. Based on what i've seen, some 'slaves' in Ancient Egypt sold themselves into slavery to escape poverty. And in return got work, purpose, sometimes food and even pay and shelter. While there surely must have been downsides, a model like that could be better for some people rather than just sitting around doing nothing

If I remember correctly it was the current St. Paul's Cathedral which 'topped' it. So that's 1720. That's a hell of a long time to be the tallest man made structure.

I dreamed about a zombie apocalypse. I was holed up in my apartment while the world went down the tube, but surprisingly it wasn't actually that hard to avoid getting bitten as long as you weren't a complete moron about it. At least in my dream anyway. I've heard that it really actually would be pretty easy to avoid getting bitten by zombies if they were real. Like for instance they would be too brain dead to actually go for your neck or exposed places like in movies, and simple things like closing a door would actually hold them. They wouldn't be able to break in like they do in a lot of movies. Unless we're talking about mutated zombies, or supernatural zombies... if it's purely scientific, decomposing brain dead barely animated flesh bots fueled by hunger would not be able to move very quickly or do anything that requires "skill" or "intelligence."

I don't think a zombie apocalypse is even within the realm of possibility though.

I've created a Letterboxd account for anyone interested in following me on there. I've added a few people from here, like Swan and seanc and MovieMeditation, but I'm sure there are many more I don't know about. You can find the link in my signature.

I have a list on my computer of every movie I can ever remember seeing. It comes in handy for all these countdowns, but I always worry about something bad happening to it since I rarely bother to update the backup file on my jump drive. I figured it was about time to transfer all the films to letterboxd just in case something bad happens to my laptop. I think it will also be cool to keep an actual film diary now and see how many films I've watched in a particular month or year.

I rated every single one of the films -- all 2952 of them. The overwhelming majority fall in the 2 to 3.5 range, which seems about right. I was ranking films I haven't seen in many years, so I tended to give most of them the benefit of the doubt. Out of all those films, I only awarded 60 of them a perfect score, which seems too exclusive. Even more exclusive is the one-star club with only 41 films.

I plan on going back and transferring a bunch of my old write-ups onto there as well.

Gatsby
09-04-15, 03:36 AM
The only reason why I go to Letterboxd is to quietly mock the poor quality of reviews considered "good". Sums up everything bad about modern film criticism. But Sean and now you Captain are slowly convincing me to use it at least for film diaries.

I can't remember if it was Stephen Fry or John Lloyd, but one of them was talking about QI once and said that much of what they've said on QI (they did mention a percentage but I forget what it was) is now incorrect because things change/new things are discovered all the time. Though I think they've only had to change it once before the broadcast and that was when Felix Baumgartner's freefall height record was broken by Alan Eustace.

The government just fooled some refugees, put them on a train telling them it was headed to Germany, and they ended up on a refugee camp. The prime minister confessed it publicaly and said he would do it again!

Family. I went with my parents. I loved the flight to Heathrow and back the most, to be honest, but I love flying more than anything else. i mean, you don't go to London in January. It was 30 below! And I remember eating some kinda cookies which gave me such a toothache, I had to go to the dentist! It was a hospital trip. And then we went to some Mexican restaurant and I was so sick, I threw up on the Mex musicians playing there!

Yeah, London in January is not going to be fun weather wise. Hell, Britain in January isn't going to be fun weather wise, but it does sound as if you had a rather unpleasant time of it. It's always nice when locals are kind to tourists. It's something you don't forget. When we were in New York a nice lady overheard us talking about where we were going as we weren't too sure, she went beyond her subway stop and took us up into the store and to the corner of the road we wanted and pointed our way. You really do get a good feel about a place when small kindnesses happen .

A jury at Chester Crown Court has heard how a woman assumed she was having sex with a man called ‘Kye Fortune’, who was recovering from a brain tumour and was hiding his scars.

Only she wasn’t, it was her 25-year-old friend Gayle Newland who had catfished her, and persuaded her to wear a blindfold when they met for sex in a hotel room.

I know I'm late and all, but I recommend these:

Here are all the movies I own in my own personal collection (not counting my dad's horror collection) that I need to watch. I'm never going to get through them all...

Harakiri
Killer Joe
He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
Persepolis
Paprika
The Celebration

Most of the rest I've not seen. Is Red the one from the Three Colors Trilogy? I still haven't gotten around to watching those even though I've owned them for awhile.

I've recently been partying like it's 1999 by revisiting the first couple of Austin Powers films. I thought I should let everyone know that until its influence wears off I may well be using certain words and phrases outwith my normal vocabulary. If I agree with something someone has posted I may describe it as being 'groovy' or 'smashing'. If I disagree with someone's opinion/review of a film I may inform them to 'oh behave' or tell them that their review 'ain't my bag baby'.

I may also refer to my favourite female MoFo's (Vicky, Funny Face, MovieGal, nebbit) as being 'shagadelic'. I thought it was only fair to warn everyone

I got 7 when I tried it. An Arrested Development fan then Sean? I ask because I guess people could still give it a go having not seen it. I'll have to start talking about the show more on here, I'd imagine it's popular but the only mention I did of it previously was a quick post in the TV tab. I flew through the four seasons quite recently. That article/quiz reminded me of one of my favouite Lucille quotes: ""It's one banana. What could it cost, $10?""

Yeah, that quote made me laugh. I loved it. I binged it about three years ago. Definitely a show I wish was in syndication like Seinfeld so I could know the lines and episodes better. I need to just throw it on once in a while. I have seen every episode once and that was it.

It finished top ten on the countdown so it must be quite popular but you never hear it mentioned much.Season 5 and a film are apparently being developed. Can't wait.

Just got a hold of an N64. I was playing PerfectDark and Wave Race earlier today.

Going to play some NES later this week.

You got any good recs on games to get a hold of for those consoles?

I really need to buy an N64. Obviously GoldenEye is the rec there, but I am sure you've played it before. :D

For the NES... man, where to start?

If you have somebody to play with you, you will have a blast if you can find a copy of Ice Hockey. Best hockey game of all-time.

Then there is the classic games, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castelevania, Mega Man, etc.

If you want an underrated NES game, I'd go with Kid Icarus. It's difficult, but you are playing NES, so obviously it's difficult. That console is home of some of the most brutally difficult games you'll ever play.

I warned everyone that thanks to Austin Powers I was stuck in 1999. Turns out I'm struggling to return to our current time. As you can see from my greeting I'm still around the turn of the century.

Expect me back in a day or two to talk about the last ever episode of Friends and to enquire as to who exactly did let the dogs out.

That moment when you don't want to sleep, so you do stuff to prevent sleep, then you get sleepy and try to sleep, than you can't sleep and do stuff to sleep, but when you can't sleep, you go back to doing stuff that make you sleepy until you feel tired enough to sleep, but you never actually sleep until you finally fall asleep by accept and sleep.

Sleep. I need it. Don't want it. Right now... I can't find it. So I'm here... Sleepy but not sleeping. Sleep. Sheep... 1,2,3,4,5...........
