Part of my family went out to go see Paul Blart 2.
I know I probably sound like a total snob, but my family's low standard for movies bothers me sometimes. Sheesh, couldn't the thing at least wait for rental? Was Paul Blart 2 really so amazing looking and important it just had to be seen in the theater?

I'd be proud that your family took you to see Paul Blart 2.
Your family has pride and you should be proud of that!
When we went to see Unfriended my sister kept joking about ditching on it and seeing Paul Blart 2, and I made my general contempt for the idea so clear every time they didn't even tell me they were going tonight. I didn't see the thing.

I'm thinking of watching House of 1000 Corpses in a moment.
Captain Spaulding got me to buy it (as well as The Devil's Rejects).
This is a movie I once gave 0. So, we'll see how I feel about it now.

Satoshi Kon is awesome. I just put a a bid on a copy of Millennium Actress on eBay. Once I get that, I'll have a grand total of 3 animes in my collection. All Kon.

I feel a bit positive about House of 1000 Corpses right now. I mean... Rob Zombie movies, as ridiculed as they've been, actually haven't all been bad. And horror movies have become so bad ever since House of 1000 Corpses came out, that it'll probably look a lot better to me.
Well, he made one good horror movie. And it's the one everyone hates the most. Admittedly, I should give it a rewatch, but first viewing I found it to be really, really good.

I liked coloring with those Mr. Sketch magic markers that smelled. I remember them being very bright and vivid and at the same time, they smelled really good. I particularly liked the yellow lemony marker, but I also liked some of the other ones, like green lime and purple grape.
Ah, coloring. And crayons. Loved having a big box of crayons. I remember the jealousy I used to experience when someone would have a Crayola crayon that I didn't have. When Wild Strawberry wasn't in my box, but it was in someone else's, it was time to turn into a crayon thief.

I wasn't considering any of the logistics behind it, just an urge to somehow expand the experience because of how much I was enjoying it.
Sometimes I imagine the sounds something beautiful would make. For instance, I look at Salvador Dali paintings and try to figure out which genre of music it would fit into if it was somehow adapted.

Oh, dear God.....
42 minutes into HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES (I'm just now finally watching it) and I'm ready for it to be over.
I liked the Captain Spaulding scenes at the beginning (I guess...) but as soon as Sheri Moon Zombie enters the picture, it becomes massively annoying.

I don't know. He told me he wanted me to watch DEVIL's REJECTS and post my thoughts. Which I will be doing soon. I just wanted to watch this one first.
Anyway, I must note this -- I find it funny that Captain Spaulding in this movie drives a pink Cadillac. So does Hollywood Montrose, the gay guy in MANNEQUIN.
For the record, Devil's Rejects isn't nearly as bad as House of 1000 Corpses. Some people even consider it good - though they'd be wrong. ;)

The film is about relentless evil and coming face to face with horror, death, your worst nightmares... all of that. It wants to be in your face. It's an angry movie. It is a love letter to all things scary and creepy and evil and dark and related to death.
It's just not that brilliant and full of talent.
It had some good visual moments, particularly near the end. And I do like the Captain Spaulding character and I kind of appreciate the character played by Bill Moseley, since he was in TEXAS CHAINSAW 2. Karen Black was kind of good... but Sheri Moon is unbearable.
It just doesn't have good characters and a good story with the victims. They're treated too much like garbage for the sake of being evil.

re: Robert Downey Jr.
He seems to've become such a dick since he started taking the money. It's a shame, because he used to be a really good actor who made interesting choices.
First, I noticed I was getting rid of a bunch of movies that I had starring Robert Downey Jr. --- I just didn't see the desire to really watch them again, like that Sherlock Holmes sequel.
Then... there was that whole thing recently where he walked out of that Channel 4 interview.
Now, I watched the interview and I thought that it made sense that Robert would walk off it... the guy was asking some weird questions about his prison life, when Robert was there to just promote the movie. I do feel that interviewer was more concerned about his own reputation (badly) than just doing a decent movie interview.
But I don't know... the way Robert handled it... the major nervousness that seemed apparent to me... and the fact that he later went on Howard Stern and called that interviewer a "syphilitic parasite" .... I thought that in particular wasn't very classy. It seemed rather juvenile. Especially since after he walked off the interview, he smiled at the guy and said, "It's okay - you're good." It's two-facey to me.
Quentin Tarantino faced the same Channel 4 interviewer and laid into him as well for asking questions he didn't want to answer -- I watched the interview -- I thought Quentin handled the guy very well, but Robert Downey Jr. seemed very un-cool to me. He's supposed to be the coolest guy in the world right now -- Robert Downey Jr. -- and he just isn't seeming that way to me. I've always liked Robert Downey Jr., but, as I said, he's frustrating me now.

As I see it, he takes himself too seriously and has done for a good few years now. It's not a surprise, he's a big Hollywood actor after all, but it's a shame seeing as he didn't used to. Tarantino's the same, but he has been since the 90's.
As for the interviews, while I've not seen either (they both just sound far too cringing to watch) I don't think just because you're on a press junket you're contracted to do that you get a say in what you're asked. You're probably going to get easy stuff because these things are usually 5 or 10 minute things for puff piece magazines and daytime tv. The PR should know better with this guy and Channel 4 over here and, let's face it, they probably do, hence the interview.

I'm fascinated by that Channel 4 interviewer. Those little interviews are always boring and stupid -- this guy ruffles feathers and makes them antagonistic. But this is why Robert Downey Jr. was such a downer with me -- Quentin Tarantino could handle the guy and he didn't walk off the interview. Robert Downey Jr. did. Then Robert goes on Howard Stern and the two of them make fun of the interviewer -- HOWARD STERN! Who's, like, supposed to be the most antagonistic interviewer ever. Or, WAS, at least.

I've seen the whole thing before. I remembered parts of it while watching it. But the fact that I forgot a lot of it... and didn't really desire to see it again... not good.
Obviously it was better than HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, but, the level of anger and violence and ugliness in it doesn't fare well with me. I feel like there's still not a good balance that can make this mean spirited movie feel okay. William Forsythe was a big saving grace, but still, it didn't really payoff.

Oh, even I don't think Rob Zombie's Halloween is better than John Carpenter's Halloween. It's not like that. I just thought Zombie's movies actually gave the series some new life. Briefly. I thought what he did made Michael Myers temporarily fresh again. Especially after that horrible Halloween: Resurrection.

any good?
Did you know Bryan Adams did the complete soundtrack to the film?
I think I will see if "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" is on Netflix...
The film is perhaps most famous for a scene in which Mrs. Hammond opens the door to a room filled with dogs that are apparently being experimented on. The dogs are cut open with their hearts and guts still pulsating. The scene was so graphic and realistic that several crew members were forced to testify in court to disprove the accusation that real dogs were used in the film.[1] Carlo Rambaldi, a special effects artist, saved Fulci from a two-year prison sentence by presenting the fake dog props in court to a seemingly unconvinced judiciary.[1] This was the first time in film history that an effects artist had to prove his work was not real in a court of law.

I have no idea if it's good. I just remember seeing the DVD in a store and wondering if it was good myself. Since I considered seeing it, it probably is good.
Sounds fun!

I don't use either of those, so I don't know what's on there, but if there's any Fulci films on Netflix I'd highly recommend checking them out. He's a really nasty director, one I plan on further exploring soon.
