Hi guys

Hey Cole, welcome back!

What does everyone think about this idea for a Countdown?

The MoFo 100 Guilty Pleasures Countdown

The idea is that it's a countdown -- and since it's my idea, it's a Sexy Celebrity countdown, which means IDEALLY it wouldn't take a long time to do -- but it's not one where you have to watch a bunch of movies and eventually send in a list of 25 films.

You would just have to send in ONE movie that you consider a "guilty pleasure" of yours. And you could send in a little write-up about it that will be posted when the movie is revealed during the countdown.

100 different MoFos could send in one movie to be included in this countdown. Every movie has to be different. And hopefully the powers-that-be make this an official list you can check off. I figure it's a way people could get at least one movie they love onto an official MoFo list. A movie that might not otherwise make such a list in any other way. You just have to pick a movie and call it your "guilty pleasure" movie. It doesn't necessarily have to be a bad movie... it could be anything.... but PREFERABLY it's something not already on a list and it's something you really love.

How I would present this countdown after I've received 100 different movies.... not 100% decided on that. It could be presented in the order I received them (first one is #1, last movie is #100). It could be in alphabetical order by movie title. Whatever. It just wouldn't, of course, be ranked by points because it's a different kind of countdown.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure I'd wanna do it... but I had this idea and thought I'd get it out there. If I don't do it, someone else could, if people like it.

I'll be down for this.

I have made a thread for it --

It's happening -- provided I get 100 movies.

Something's been on my mind for the last couple of days and I would really like to hear what you guys have to say about this. How important is it to you that your significant other has similar taste to you? I always thought of how great it would be to meet somebody who likes the same music and the same films that I enjoy. Sometimes I feel like it wouldn't matter but I can't imagine going out with someone who likes Nickelback for example...

Theres no rhyme or reason to that stuff man. The best thing you could do for yourself is make sure he/she will be your best friend. Mickey Rooney was married a bunch of times, but his last wife he was married to her over 40 years. They asked him on a talk show what is the secret since hes seen both sides. He said he married his best friend. Her friendship filled all the dull times out, the passion will always ebb, but the frienship is what carries them through, and its more effortless.

I can tell you I had two or three drag outs about flippin Jersey Shore. :D My wife and I had very different movie and TV taste. It really wasn't that important though. We mostly enjoyed the discourse, despite Jersey Shore and a couple of others. I can tell you one thing, I would have been watching Fellini and Bergman late at night by my lonesome if I had been watching such things then. I did marry my best friend BTW, that doesn't always work out either, even after 14 years.

How important is it to you that your significant other has similar taste to you?

Music and movies are pretty important to me, so I'd probably take it into pretty big consideration. Just how important of an issue it would be I think it would really depend on how drastically different the tastes are and also on how willing the other person would be to give what I like a chance.

I'd rank overall personality, political views, and how they feel about my pets as more important than taste.

Aphex: If someone makes fun of another person's taste in music etc. I think it's just very immature. Of course if it's just as a joke then that's fine. But if it's mean spirited, why would you even be together with such a person? My boyfriend and I do share taste in some things, but of course not everything. But we don't make fun of each other. It sounds pointless to do so.

Mr Minio
05-14-16, 08:43 PM
Music and movies are pretty important to me, so I'd probably take it into pretty big consideration. Joaquin Phoenix hater wouldn't even be taken into consideration, right?
I'd rank overall personality, political views, and how they feel about my pets as more important than taste. Political views is something I wouldn't care about, but then again I'd rather be with somebody who doesn't care about politics just like me, so all in all it would matter, paradoxically! Personality is a must, of course. I don't have pets, so this point does not apply to me. But of course I couldn't be with a doggone plebian listenin' to radio pop and watching Transformers, or somebody who hates my loveliest movies by Tarkovsky, Bergman and Tarr. Somebody who doesn't know these geniuses wouldn't be taken seriously and would be considered a lower human being, as well. Besides, a girl not listening to at least 20 bands/artists I love is an instant turn off, as well. Any girl I would rate below 8 on a 10-step scale is an instant no, too. And mind you this scale rates both her looks and her personality. Only a girl with a double 10 is a possible wife material. Any other should be eternally grateful I even want to speak to her. Yeah, I still don't have a girlfriend and wondering why.

Miss Vicky
05-14-16, 08:48 PM
Joaquin Phoenix hater wouldn't even be taken into consideration, right?

It would depend on how respectful they are of my fanhood.

Political views is something I wouldn't care about

When I say "political views," basically I mean if someone's a homophobe, a racist, or a religious zealot, it's a dealbreaker for me. Actually, being a Trump supporter would probably be a dealbreaker too.

Mr Minio
05-14-16, 08:55 PM
Oh, this. Personally, I'm a heterophobe and unreligious zealot. I'm not too racist, I prefer to take it easy and just stroll.

My Dad and my brother make fun of me sometimes, and it's really annoying and ignorant. But I was talking to someone about it and they made me realise something that I never thought of before. It has to do with their insecurities. So I think now I'm trying to look past the insults to why they do it and empathise with them. I know they love me and they aren't doing it because they hate me, it's just they feel so crappy about themselves that they try to bring me down sometimes to elevate themselves.

I do it to other people too. I get mad at people for having what I perceive to be bad taste, and I criticise them for it. And it's like... why do I do it? Why do I care if other people don't share my taste, or have what I consider inferior taste or undeveloped taste? It's like I have a desire to force other people to change. And sometimes I catch myself just imposing my current level of understanding as if I've always had that level of understanding even though I just acquired it...

It just depends on what's really important to you. Hubby and I have very different tastes in music. He likes hard rock and heavy metal, but I like country, easy listening and showtunes. We compromise when we're in the car, and we listen to soft rock.

For movies, he likes action movies, like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, but I like musicals and rom-coms, but when we sit down to watch a movie, we try to find movies that we can both enjoy. I started watching the superhero movies because of him, and I've enjoyed many of them, including the X-Men movies, the Avengers movies, etc. Some of them have become favorite movies for me. He started watching some animated movies because of me, and he likes some of those, including the Despicable Me movies, Wreck-It-Ralph, and many of the Pixar movies.

We watch a lot of TV shows together, but there are some shows that I like that he has no interest in, so I watch those without him, and he loves WWE, so he watches wrestling without me.

It's all about respecting each others differences, and learning to compromise. When we go out, there are lots of things that we enjoy doing together, so we spend most of our time together. I go places that he likes because they're his interests, and he does the same for me. We recently celebrated our 17th anniversary, and even though we have our differences, we're still best friends.

Yes, Farsi. I'm a history major with a focus on Middle Eastern history. You can choose to learn Turkish or Farsi. So if you are taking classes on Turkish or Persian history, it becomes useful. I chose Farsi because I love the language and because I learned a little bit of Turkish in high school.

Small intimate venues packed with fans > Large arenas packed with idiots.

Most live music can at least be an entertaining experience, even if the music is not so good. My city has an arena that's the strangest shape imaginable and thus has the worst acoustics possible essentially. We've had bands skip us entirely and play every other venue around us for this reason, and whenever a band does play here, there are always complaints about acoustics and feedback. But being in a small smoky club with a hundred other people who also love that band, is a one of a kind experience.

It was great! They're coming to baltimore soon but I didn't buy a ticket.

I can rock out with Vladimir instead of strangers.
I can't see Gavin sing but I felt super awkward last time we made eye contact and then I think he avoided me when he went into the crowd

I had posted on his facebook wall that he was mispronouncing respite in a song and then he changed his entire facebook so nobody could ever post on it again. Is it crazy to think he recognized me, i felt like he did. obviously i bothered him enough to stop interacting with his fans on facebook.

It's fine if your not into certain kinds of music Matt, my problem is you make modern music or any music using electronics/computers seem somehow inferior to music of the past when such a notion is absolutely ridiculous. What's even worse is the idea that it's talentless. I still haven't seen you make a song using a DAW and only the plug-ins of a DAW, and have it be anything worthwhile. Make an electronic song as good as Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada or Autechre. Then you can rag on their music. Of course, you will never be able to because they are musical geniuses.

Yeah, exactly. If you don't like electronic music then you don't like it, as long as you've gave it a decent shot that is fine because everyone has some type of music they just don't like. Somehow I don't believe you, if you really believe after doing so that it is just pushing buttons.

And if it is just pushing buttons, so is playing an electronic keyboard, which you do. I mean honestly, what's the difference between that and a midi controller aside from the fact that you can do way more experimentation with a midi controller?

Well like any music there are different levels of difficulty and skills involved. I don't know exactly what your electronic music entailed, but it can be an extremely complex process to make great electronic music. You calling it "pushing buttons" really does make it seem like you are only familiar with the most elementary electronic music, i mean it would be like me saying your drumming just involves you hitting a drum with a stick but we both know that good drumming is not something easy to do just like electronic stuff.

I watched your video of you playing in Thailand or something, it was fine, not trying to insult your music.

Matt, if you have made something as good as Aphex Twin or Autechre, I will bow down before you like you are a god. I just don't think you have.

I don't think I am very good yet, but I have come a long way since I started using Ableton. It's taken almost two years to get where I'm at, and I still have a long way to go. So it's insulting to have someone tell me I'm just "pushing buttons" when I can spend so much time working on a single song.

I once went to a Christmas party and we could have a few alcoholic drinks for free, so I had a couple whiskey and coke, and planned to call it a night after that. So I found this big bowl of fruit punch after my last drink and decided to try it, and it was really good, so I poured myself a glass and went back to the table. Well, a few glasses of punch later I was feeling preeeetty drunk and couldn't figure out why, so I went to get another glass of punch.

Well, when I get to the table with the punch, I noticed there is a little sign kind of piled under half empty cups, I moved a couple cups to see what it said, and it read "Champagne Fruit Punch". I had purposefully quit drinking to be sober, but apparently the liquor gods had a different plan for me. Oh well.

I'm jumping the gun sharing I know, but I'm on my way and I'm excited. :D

I watched Funny Games and wrote a review afterwards. It somehow got deleted and I'm quite angry about that. :)

Not sure if anybody cares but I probably will not be on for the next week as I am going to be doing a bit of traveling. I hope everybody has a great week.

Yes, the original. I agree. I thought it was beautifully made.

I don't have any interest in watching the remake.

I actually bought a blow up doll once - to use as part of an elaborate Halloween set up at a friend's house. We put a hood over his head, dressed him in rags, and hung him from a noose. No idea what she did with him afterwards.

Executive producer doesn't make much of a difference. Spielberg was "executive producer" on the Transformers movies. And those movies were crap.

Watching Gandolfini is just mesmerizing. He owned that part.

what annoys me though is that ive seen the last episode. back when that aired, sarah shahi who i was abig fan of was in it so i watched it.
i dont really remember it though.just the two of them sitting on the top of a hill/mountain with the morning sun shining on them. hopefully it stays forgotten till i finish the whole series.

sopranos is amazing for the first couple of seasons. enjoy it while it lasts!!
it goes waaay downhill near the end. They were taking like 2-3 years per season because they had no idea what to write.

Topsy
05-24-16, 06:12 PM
most shows are like that though unfortunatly, but i didnt know about the years inbetween.

thats the thing that bothers me abit about watching show in real time while they`re still airing,i much prefer to find an old show thats finished so i can bingewatch it

im a bit spoiled that way,we always used to get shows so much later than all other countries, but now i realise that they waited so we didnt have any breaks between the seasons. so im not used to waiting.and a 1 ****ing long. when game of thrones season 2 came out,i had long forgotten was season 1 was about lol

Gosh damn. I dont know how the hell you all can be entertained at all if you cant appreciate these characters completely flushed out in the last seasons?! At no point did it ever get boring, the acting alone made it incable of inducing boredom. Truly one of the greatest series ever, as good as The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, or Game Of Thrones.

It stopped being about the mafia and started being a day time soap opera about his family and disobedience

Daniel M
05-24-16, 08:45 PM
The whole thing was always about his family, and the last two seasons are when Mafia related stuff intensifies anyway. The New York stuff, Carmine, Little Carmine, Johnny Sacks, Phil Leotardo etc., it has some of the most intense mafia related stuff of the whole show.

Glad to see you back, Aphex. :)

Anyway, Soprano's = very good.

I barely made it through the first episode of The Walking Dead. I've never really had any thought about revisiting it. Breaking Bad I liked the first season, but it was never something I was excited by. I'm looking to give season 2 a go. I actually liked the first season of GoT, but season two was a struggle and I abandoned it after that.
