I think something is going around. Hubby's been sick the past few days, and a couple of his co-workers were out sick today too.
Have some chicken soup, and hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Sorry your feeling sick, JayDee. I'm trying to pretend I don't have a raging headache right now.
It started with this woman today. She was one of those people that every time you tell her a viable solution to her problem, she would tell me why that couldn't possibly work. Well, then live with a dog that eats your house.
Also it was very hard to keep her on topic. With some people it's really hard to keep control of the situation and I felt exhausted afterwords from the effort. Then I got that spotty vision that let me know the rest of my day was shot to hell as well.
Oh well, I can't complain too much. I'm home now.

Chicken soup is awesome. Panera Bread is coming to town. They have good soup.
Godoggo
11-13-14, 10:46 PM
They have good soup, but boy is Panera expensive for what you get. We went to lunch one day and the bill for two people was $30. That's just too pricey for me for lunch, especially since so many restaurants in town have really good lunch deals at about half that price.

Ha! I was going to say Panera is expensive. Last time I was there 2 bagels and 2 drinks were enough to make me think twice about going back. Safeway grocery store has good Artisan bread too.

Yeah, I was gonna say Panera's too pricey, too. I remember lunch for me being around $10 for basically a chicken sandwich. That was years ago and I don't know how much it is now. A lot of places are pricey, but to me, that was rather pricey then for what it was, hence I stopped going.

I'll make my own or go to a bakery. I don't like paying that much for soup and bread, especially considering how cheap they are. There is a reason a lot of restaurants serve bread and soup free with your meal. :)

Do you brew beer, too? Yes I really do! I have for the last 5 years. It's not cheaper than buying beer. It ends up costing 2 or 3 times as much as the cheap beer. Not that I would ever drink cheap beer. I make it for fun and so I can have unique styles. I make a Spruce Ale brewed with tips from a Blue Spruce tree. It's pretty different, but good.

Panera is good however when you get soup at the one I go to... You get mostly broth with very little noodles and far less chicken which kind of pisses me off.... I dont like their sandwiches at places like that... I dont think I ever order a cold sandwich at any place... I dont like certain things on my sandwiches so its a waste of breath for me to even attempt to tell them what I do or do not want on my sandwich. Panera's salads are good.... but then again... I dont like salad dressings at all.. would rather use the juice in the tomatoes I get on my salads. However, Panera has the best flavored iced tea... thats what I like... and sometimes I get a bagel and toast it.. or get a cookie from their pastry selections.

I'm usually not one to complain about my food, but at over $5.00 for a not very big bowl of soup I'm going to bitch if they just give me broth.
Their paninis are reasonably priced but everything else is ridiculous. For a sandwich, soup and drink it's anywhere from 15 to 17 dollars. I kinda can't get over that. There are fine dining places that you can get lunch cheaper than that.

I've always found it odd that she won an Oscar for that role, too. Granted, I feel she was THE ONLY THING remarkable about Ghost, which I can't imagine liking if she wasn't in the film. I love her scene at the bank... the rest of the time, even with Whoopi, isn't that amazing. I guess they gave it to her to recognize her, not mainly just because of her performance. Unless it was a really bad year? There's better Whoopi stuff than Ghost. Maybe they found something appealing about Whoopi in the psychic role. The black shaman lady from Africa archetype, like Miss Cleo, the Jamaican 1-900 number psychic from the 1990s.

Mary McDonnell (Dances with Wolves)
Now, I've not seen Wild At Heart because of Nic Cage (I couldn't watch him even back then) but any of the other three should've wiped the floor with her. Especially the top two. If they'd given it to her for The Color Purple, I could've understood it. She may well've been robbed that year, but she'd not done enough to warrant getting a 'make up' Oscar in 1991. We're not talking Peter O'Toole here. Hell, we're not talking Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock and their 'thanks for all the money you've made us' Oscars here.

Yep. There are. I've have lunch a few times in fine dining restaurants where the bill has come out right around 30$ for two people. Dinner is a different story, but you can get a reasonable lunch at a few places.

I've been to Amelia's and Paramount. My lunch was around 12 at Amelia's and about 16 at Paramount. Both of those are considered fine dining. I've had dinner at those places too then it goes up to around 100 per couple. They wouldn't even be open for lunch if they would charge dinner prices. Not many people in Gainesville can afford fifty dollar lunches.
I am updating my resume. I really want to start job hunting again. I hate job hunting and am really bad at it when I have a job. I get on the computer to start typing and just end up coming to MoFo to see what's up instead.

That's cool. Food's so much cheaper over there. I forget that sometimes. Looking at those two places though, they look more like gastropubs over here, than fine dining. Nothing wrong with that, especially for me, as I'd rather be in a gastropub. :yup: Although, you'd do well to get a starter for $15 in the gastropubs here, let alone lunch.

I picked up the Blu Ray edition of Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans at the library recently and noticed there are two versions. The Fox Movietone version and the European version. Wikipedia doesn't mention the differences between the two (or even there are two versions). What are the differences and which one should I watch first? I'm assuming the Fox because its longer.

Yeah, I think the chef at Paramount worked at a gastropub for awhile. One of the chefs around here did anyway.
It's even cheaper to eat in Gainesville than even Jacksonville or Orlando because it's a college town. Paramount is pretty good. Their soup is actually cheaper than Panera's, but I bet they wouldn't be happy if you just ordered soup. :)

Probably not. I order just off the Dollar Menu at McDonalds all the time, and they're never happy about it. If they don't want people ordering just off the cheaper menus, then they shouldn't have that as an option.

But then you might not be in there and they wouldn't be able to promote it. The point is to get you in the shop. Then, if they can make you feel bad/uncomfortable/embarrassed/whatever to the point where you buy the more expensive foods, then so much the better. It's commerce in action, gbg. It's how and why portion size/options increased.

Yeah, but that doesn't work on me. I only go in there for the dollar menu when I want a quick snack. They can't guilt me into buying anything more than the $1 item that I went there to buy.
If I want to spend more than $1 on food, I'm certainly not going to spend it at McDonalds. There are much better fast food and other cheap restaurants around here where I can buy a $5 burger that's better taste and quality.

But it's not targeted at you. You're simply one of the people who see it. Plus, they're still getting a dollar that they otherwise wouldn't have, which is the point of any business.
