Sorry to hear that, Daniel. Do you have decent access to another computer?

Kind of, if I really need too. Gonna buy a large memory stick and try and transfer films from my laptop to it (it'll work for a bit before it overheats and shuts down) which I can use to play films on my TV. Got a load of films recorded anyway, so I'll watch some of them. I might make the effort to read some of the film books I have too.

Yeah. That's the only one I know of.

I seen "House of Flying Daggers" long ago... before I even knew who he was.... the film made me really take notice of him.. .was "Red Cliff"... then shortly after I watched it.... a friend and I watched "Chungking Express" and I really didnt notice it was him... then we watched "Fallen Angels" and I told my friend.. "hey thats the hot guy from "Red Cliff"... and I showed him a picture of Takeshi.. and yup he said the same thing... same guy (he didnt agree that he was hot tho).

I REALLY want to see his film "Lavender".. but its hard to find. :(

I bought myself a big external HDD to put on all the good films I've been watching and a couple that I still want to see. It's one of the best purchases I've done in years! Now I don't have to delete good films from my computer that I'd possibly want to rewatch.

Some good news, I've backed up some of my films on disk and they seem to work in my Blu-ray player (didn't burn them, just using it as you would a USB in terms of data storage), and also I've got access to a computer with my step-dad saying I can use his, which used to be mine, so I'm on a computer now and I can use this to watch more films :) The only frustrating thing is lack of a HDMI port to connect it up to my TV.

I bought myself a big external HDD to put on all the good films I've been watching and a couple that I still want to see. It's one of the best purchases I've done in years! Now I don't have to delete good films from my computer that I'd possibly want to rewatch.

I used to watch between 2 - 3 films with my Argentine friend on Friday and Saturday nights/mornings.... and we always watched 2 on monday which was his day off... and then I watched films on my own.... but I have seen so many before I watched with him... thats its crazy.. pure crazy...

This one was about 170 euros (so that would be around 140 British pounds or something, I guess).

EDIT: That's for 1.8TB, though. You can also buy something with a little less capacity. It will take ages before I'll get this one filled with good films.

Irl, I'm probably among the least confrontational people you'll ever see; quite boring to be honest, because I just can't be bothered with the ********. I don't know why I'm so opinionated online, used to think because of anonymity but the older I got, the more I realized that wasn't it.

Perhaps it's the people I hang out with irl are pretty much the same as I, and we've really nothing to argue about. I drink a lot too, and don't care for people in general not because I dislike them as a person, it's that I haven't met many who are as honest with their feelings as I am. Maybe I'm just an *******, it could be something as simple as that, or perhaps my ego is whatever. I know exactly what you mean, but I'm not sure that the internet has a lot to do with it for me but just that I am comfortable here and it makes it easier to open up. For some reason I am a lot more friendly and outgoing when I am by myself. I feel like joining this forum taught me I am exactly the same on the internet as I am in real life. When I first joined I kind of stayed on the fringes not posting that much. Now that I am comfortable I feel pretty free to insert myself into almost any of the conversations. I have to get to know people a little before I become assertive. I think it mostly comes from not wanting to offend people with my views or dry sense of humor. I like people to be comfortable around me, I am definitely a people pleaser.

Introverts don't care for small talk much. I practically am almost unable to engage in it.

I've had a couple of jobs that I didn't care for any of my co-workers, but I had one job that I loved them. I was working at a grocery store when I was in college and we had a blast working there. We were all so silly and there were some great people that worked there. When I think about that particular job I miss the camaraderie of working with other people. I always think of that job when I watch The Office

If you were to ask the people I talk to here on a regular basis in private messages.. they would tell you I talk a lot about movies. I do talk about a bit of personal stuff with one or two people but thats it.

Im a friendly outgoing person... but I just dont care much for small talk... most of our dinner conversations are around biology and history.... and with a few friends.. its comics and movies... even music.... but not general ********....... I think because my movie taste is a wide range and I know more about foreign cinema.. most of the people interact with .. outside of the web.. arent interested in it so they dont discuss it with me.

Not many really want to talk about what I want to talk about... not many are interested in the dark side of history which is one of the things I really enjoy.

If you are in Florida during the winter you should go. The spring is always the same temp. so you can still swim. There are manatees everywhere in the winter. One year we went and this man from England starting talking about something moving under his feet. He dunked under to have a look and he was on top of a manatee. He was so excited and it was so neat to watch him have that experience. Then it surfaced and everyone was just kind of in awe hanging out in the water with it. No one tried to pet it or bother it and it swam away. I'll never forget that.

The English man said that it was the most beautiful thing he ever saw and everyone looked at his wife and laughed. She thought it was funny too.

Then we saw a manatee repeatedly try to climb in a canoe and fail. Cute things, but not so smart. :)

I like them both equally. There Will Be Blood has had far more impact on me, when I wanted to be a filmmaker I turned to that CONSTANTLY as a guide, as well as PTA. It's hard for me to watch it with the same passion now... I have this weird issue with, like, the script showing through. I don't know how to explain it. I watch it and feel like I'm reading the script. I'm not saying it's contrived or anything, just... it's impossible to explain.

It's like I'm watching an adaptation of a script. Which technically it is.

Actually, I know exactly what you mean but I never found the words for it.

So much for my nap. I think that is the third time There Will Be Blood has won a tournament. I didn't look through all the posts, but Teeter won with it in a best of 2007 tournament as well and I am pretty sure it won another.

I have time to watch that Once Were Warriors movie and then I can start on my list.

I changed my mind about my HoF nomination again. I watched one of the movies I was considering with this girl I've sort of adopted as a little sister and she had such an amazingly strong reaction to it that now that is the movie I want to nominate.

Swan
06-21-14, 01:02 PM
I still don't know what I'm going to nominate for HoF. I mean, I have one in mind, but I don't think it will do very well... pretty sure most will hate it.

I'm fine with you nominating Bergman so as its not Cries and Whispers. It would give me an added boost to see another one. I really liked The Seventh Seal.

Swan

I could nominate his other 70's masterpiece, Autumn Sonata.

Godoggo
06-21-14, 01:09 PM
I just nominate something that I love and feel deserves the spot and that I feel I can defend. When I am considering a movie I try to think why it deserves to be in the HoF. If it's too hard for me to think of a reason other than I really love it, I move on to another movie.

I wouldn't worry about if other people like it because it's such a diverse group of people that I think ultimately trying to find a crowd pleaser may backfire

But having said that if you want a sure fire win, nominate There Will Be Blood. ;).

I'm looking forward to our new batch. I'm hoping for stuff I haven't seen, but hopefully not too overly obscure.

Swan

I hear you. Seems like doctors run test after test no matter what anymore.
Isn't that the case in the US, though? Fear of being sued leading to unnecessary test just in case it leaves them open to a suit?

Yep, good ole litigious USA. Even me being a dog behaviorist, I have to be very very careful in the advice I give and things I do. I've never been suied but I know several in my field that have.

The wife took it in good fun. It was too spontaneous for us to help ourselves. Manatees aren't exactly known for thier beauty. At least she was an attractive woman. It would have been really rude if, in fact, the manatee was the better looker. :D

I have this Pink Floyd t-shirt that is my favorite t-shirt in the whole world. It's gray and has a red pig on the front. The material is almost silky but I've worn it so much that it is now completely see-through, so now I can only wear it to bed or over my swimsuit.

Ha ha ha. That would have been a much better day. ;)

I have this elderly neighbor and she lost her husband about a month ago. I was over there helping her garden and she tells me that she needs to talk to her neighbor because his dog has been jumping the fence again. Awhile ago I posted in the shoutbox how I had to break up a dog fight. Same dog. So I didn't let her go talk to him. I did. And I let him have it.

When his dog attacked her dog I had to jump the fence and run and stop his dog from killing King. The only way I was even able to do it was to stick a water hose down the dogs throat so that it let go or drowned. This guy hid in his house and pretended not to hear.

You guys would have been proud of me. I made him feel so small. I'm sure his testicles shrank to the size of a pea. :D

it's pretty funny in my opinion Gordon Ramsay is so hilarious .

Hello. What's up everybody?

So, I'm just looking at that looming deadline for the 70's mofo list. I've got my rough draft, but I'd still like to watch a few movies before submitting. The question is... which few?

I'm considering, Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance, American Graffiti, Soldier of Orange, Mad Max, and Catch-22. I'm not sure if I'll get them all in though because I'm kind of on an Asian film binge at the moment. But I'm wondering if there's a few others I should watch instead?

I've seen most of the obvious ones like Get Carter, Taxi Driver, and The French Connection, but I haven't seen some others like La Cerlce Rouge, The Conformist, and The Long Goodbye.

Zotis, you are looking for films from the 70's? May I suggest one? Its a french film directed by Louis Malle called "Black Moon". Its an Avant Garde film.

Also in the top 100 70's list there is a crap ton of films people have recommended.

I'd start with some of the powerhouse movies of the 70's then go off the beaten path a bit. My favorite movies from that time period are Cabaret and Jaws.

I'm most excited about the 60's list. Also I want a redo of the 2000-2010. I hope after the 50's and maybe 40's we go back and start over.

Black Moon sounds intriguing. I'll check it out.

Jaws I've seen, and yeah I've looked through quite a few of the 70's recommendations and my to watch list is pretty large. I'm just trying to think which ones I'm most likely to actually like more than some of the lower ranked films already on my list (which I'm holding out on submitting).

P.S. Those Chef Ramsey memes were pretty funny.

Edit: I also can't wait for the 60's list. Check out I Start Counting. It's on Youtube.

Shinobi no Mono is another of my favorite 60's movies.

I'm interested in getting more into 50's films, so that list will be fun. I've barely scratched the surface with 60's movies as it is, but lately I've been getting more and more interested in older films.

So Zotis, if you haven't seen Halloween yet you should join us for the commentary. The 70's was a fantastic decade for horror and it's one of the best.

If you have seen it you should join us anyway. :)

Someone get me a picture for Mesmerized achievement post. I can't think of anything.

I have to work, so unfortunately I won't be able to make that.

Edit: Thanks for the Black Moon recommendation MovieGal. I don't think it will make my top 25 of the 70's, but it was very interesting and I'm glad to have seen it.

YES! I totally agree. We have to do a 2000-2009 list, so we'll actually only have that decade. The current list is a little messy and it has no clear boundaries.

We can do the 2010-2019 list in 6 years then. I'm already looking forward to that one!

It has 2010 and 2011 films on it (because it was supposed to be a Millennium list), which makes it kind of incompatible with the other decade lists.

I also dislike the vast majority of the marvel films. They're just cash cows. I can only sit through a handful of them.

The original comics weren't even that good to begin with.

The only problem is.. that most comic books have at least 5 different storylines because they are drawn and written by multiple people... so which one is right?

I know the X-men have to many story arcs to keep up with....
