Interested in talking about anything in general? Join the chill club. Of course, that depends if the members accept you, but I'm confident we will have a pretty easygoing and accepting group.
We can talk about anything. Movies sure, but mainly life and just using this as a virtual place to hang out, when we are bored and what not. Treat it as if we are hanging out in a bar, a club, a restaurant. Whatever setting works for you.
We can ask for advice from one another. We can throw birthday parties. We can drink. We can have celebrations. If anyone else has ideas we can do that too!

I thought Leto did a good job. A lot of times when a man plays that role it comes across as very stereotypical and over the top sometimes to the point of being cartoonish. I thought he brought a believability to it and a vulnerability. Having sad that, I don't remember if I voted for him. I really like Jonah Hill. It's likely I voted for him.

In real life, something about Jared Leto seems like he needs a good slapping. He is so... "look at me, I'm cutesy, I have long hair and I play in a rock band and girls are crazy about me."
But as an actor, I like him. I liked him in the movie Chapter 27. Some other roles of his, though... I have Prefontaine and couldn't get into it at the time. And I remember him in Urban Legend. Saw nothing special about it, but that was just a horror film.

IMDB trivia for Boyhood:
Richard Linklater (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000500/) cast his daughter Lorelei Linklater (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1085951/) as Samantha because she was always singing and dancing around the house and wanted to be in his movies. At about the third or fourth year of filming, she lost interest and asked for her character to be killed off. Linklater refused, saying it was too violent for what he was planning (Lorelei eventually regained her enthusiasm and continued with the project).
Even the director's daughter got tired of it.

I go by intuition. When something feels like it's gonna be good to me, I'm usually right. When it doesn't feel good at first, it won't be good.
Boyhood might be an interesting watch, but now I'm feeling like it will probably be grossly overpraised. Her is another such kind of film.
It's hard not to have some kind of pre-conceived notions going into movies if your paying any attention at all.

I try to keep an open mind about films. I am not a fan of the Marvel movies at all, but saw the new Captain America and really enjoyed it.
Her is a good example for me. After all the reviews I heard I expected it to be one of my few favorites of the year. It fell well short of that but I still thought it was a strong film.

I try to but usually based on genre and/or director I have an idea in my head of what the film will be. I think I keep pretty open once I view films though. I get surprised by many movies both to the positive and negative so I certainly don't let my thoughts going in dictate how I feel.

Confirmation bias (also called confirmatory bias or myside bias) is the tendency of people to favor information that confirms their beliefs or hypotheses. People display this bias when they gather or remember information selectively, or when they interpret it in a biased way. The effect is stronger for emotionally charged issues and for deeply entrenched beliefs. People also tend to interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing position. Biased search, interpretation and memory have been invoked to explain attitude polarization (when a disagreement becomes more extreme even though the different parties are exposed to the same evidence), belief perseverance (when beliefs persist after the evidence for them is shown to be false), the irrational primacy effect (a greater reliance on information encountered early in a series) and illusory correlation (when people falsely perceive an association between two events or situations).
A series of experiments in the 1960s suggested that people are biased toward confirming their existing beliefs. Later work re-interpreted these results as a tendency to test ideas in a one-sided way, focusing on one possibility and ignoring alternatives. In certain situations, this tendency can bias people's conclusions. Explanations for the observed biases include wishful thinking and the limited human capacity to process information. Another explanation is that people show confirmation bias because they are weighing up the costs of being wrong, rather than investigating in a neutral, scientific way.
Confirmation biases contribute to overconfidence in personal beliefs and can maintain or strengthen beliefs in the face of contrary evidence. Poor decisions due to these biases have been found in political and organizational contexts.
I wasn't really expecting anything from it, but then I saw it and was blown away.
I am in the minority for sure.

It doesn't matter what confirmation bias says. I believe in what works for me. I will defend and honor my feelings about things because the other "evidence" may be wrong. I hate people who go, "Oh, you just don't understand this!" No. You just don't see it my way. A lot of people will throw up confirmation bias bullsh!t, but their belief systems can be wrong, too.

I love how you can all dance around merrily to some experiments in the 1960's dealing with confirmation bias, but you turn the other cheek to experiments dealing with how we don't have free will.

I used to visit the RT forum every now and then, but I never felt any desire to join. It doesn't seem like a very welcoming place. Most of the members have an elitist attitude. And there's very little actual movie discussion.
Sounds like this place.

I don't think so. I've found this place to be very welcoming. It's like one big dysfunctional family. People may occasionally bicker back and forth, but it's more like siblings arguing. On the RT forums, everyone seems to have contempt for another. It's a more hostile place. For instance, they would never be down for your upcoming prom. They'd just mock you for it.
Even the little lover's quarrel that you and I had over Mannequin was never mean-spirited, at least not on my end. I kind of enjoyed it actually. I need to find another movie that you hold near and dear to your heart so I can drag it through the muck. :p
