Is The Wicker Man just not your type of film?I really dont consider it a horror.. never did.. many cultures believed in what that films discusses. I've heard it mentioned but I don't have a clue to what it's about? What you said in bold makes it sound interesting. I might watch it.

The Count of Monte Cristo is very good... I could watch that too.

Hunger a great IRA film ... Is that the IRA film about Bobby Sands with fecal matter on the cell walls?

The Dark Crystal.. one of my favorites as Im a fan of the conceptual artist of the film.Is that fantasy? or animation? Is that from the 80s?

yeah that is the one about Bobby Sands and the scene that you mentioned

yes The Dark Crystal is from the 80's .. and its muppeteering.. not animated.

Yes, thanks...

I suppose this is for MovieGal, plus anyone else that would like to know how to make these. No biggie if you don't want to know. ;)

It's really easy to do, if you'd like to learn how. That gif from The Breakfast Club, and numerous others from that movie, are easy to find. Just type the movie name, plus gif. Then you can use different downloads/software, like animation shop, to adjust the size properly.

For The Wicker Man, and any other film that has a remake, make sure you add the year of the movie, along with the movie title, plus gif.

Here soon, I'm going to refresh my memory on using my DVDs to make animated profile banners. Hopefully that works out.

I found numerous good choices of that photo from The Wicker Man, after adding gif. Nope, they don't always move, just because you add that word.

In theory I agree with what he is saying especially when it come to professional criticism. However, as an example, I don't think it necessary for me to say how the filmmaker made me engage with a movie on a technical level. It is his job to make me engage, it is my job to engage. So if he used a close-up to make me feel intimate with a character and feel what they are feeling in that moment. I can then simply say that I felt that emotion in that moment. It is not necessary to say what caused me to feel that. The film maker did his job I did mine. Personally I think if I knew much more about the technical aspects than I do it could end up altering my enjoyment. I don't know that I want to see all the strings. I think there are quite a few MoFos that see all the strings and it seems like some of them don't give themselves over to a movie the way I like to. At times I find myself thinking about simple things like star ratings during a movie and I try to slam on the brakes. I don't like engaging that way.

There's a big difference between watching a film for entertainment and watching it to critique or review.

I said it was a great article because he reminded me that I was neglecting the technical aspects when it comes to reviews, and one of my main hobbies in life is trying to enhance my reviewing skills and how I look at films. I have a habit of digging into something albeit too much when I get addicted to it, but I'm proud of it and don't mind the time invested, and it includes movie watching.I still enjoy films for purely entertainment value though, and that won't ever change. It's the reason why I still love cheesy 80s actions films and "so-bad-it's-good" Ed Wood films. Finding them to be great films in their own way is also a step to enjoying cinema as a whole IMO.

I repped you, but I am still not going to watch any Ed Wood films. I love Ed Wood films, especially his early work. He was gutsy like no one else at the time. Sure his production values are nil, but his subject matter is provocative. I can just image the faces of 1950s American audiences when they watched:
The Violent Years (1956)

"Paula Parkins is the teenage daughter of wealthy parents whom don't seem to make time for her, so she looks for thrills as the leader of her all girl gang who steal, rob, and rape young men."

You might have fun. And I don't remember who it was, maybe John Waters, but somebody made a compelling case for Wood in a serious article I read once. I should have watched some of his movies, but I haven't yet. If memory serves, the article was saying that Wood didn't care about the little details, but there was actually artistry behind either the overall message of the films, the themes, or something deeper than the obvious first layer of apathy towards making "well-made" films.

I could've just been hallucinating this though, but I remember something vaguely along those lines. Very vaguely. I hope it's not something I dreamed.

So I hit up the brick and mortar Barnes & Noble about ten minutes away from my apartment for the 50% of Criterion sale. Not only did they have all the movies I was looking for, they also had one I did not know had a Criterion release.

Picked up:

Five Easy Pieces (DVD)
The Killers (Blu Ray)
Kiss Me Deadly (Blu Ray)

I was looking for The Killers and Five Easy Pieces, but I actually had no idea Kiss Me Deadly was a Criterion release. So I grabbed that up instead of getting either Seven Samurai (which I have on DVD) or Rashomon on Blu Ray. I figured I would get the both of those another time, and get myself a movie I have not seen yet. Plus I do really need to expand my film Noir titles. I have seen quite a few, and love the genre and really need to see more.

So yeah, productive B&N sale for me!

What I dont find funny are films like "Knocked Up".... its stupid jokes about sexuality and body functions.. thats what I dont like about most american comedies... f**k, I think Seth McFarland is hot.. and I even seen "Ted" but its not my thing... I dont mind "Family Guy"

Actually my favorite Family Guy is when Brian owes Stewie money...

I hate Family Guy with a burning passion. In South Park the violence and profanity is used to brilliantly satirize common errors in society, in Family Guy it's usually without any strong cause, moreover, the jokes are terrible and end on a weak note. As Camo pointed out, at least American Dad is decent.

Here is the synopsis of a recent one I want to view but havent been able to find:

Artsy, surreal vignettes with a poetic, artistic eye and a slight sense of humor, exploring the mind of man in an insane asylum seemingly brooding over memories of childhood and parents. In this mindset, man is born on desolate mountains while his mother gives birth to a rock, the father finds humiliating punishments as he grows more rebellious and wild, shoelaces are tied around his body instead of his shoes, there are Freudian undertones and symbolism concerning the mother, many scenes and allusions involving martyrdom, women as pretty objects with exposed genitals being fondled in a forest or as meat in a freezer, all cut with oddly amusing scenes from the asylum, the adult life of a man/father living like a dog, his sex life, his career, all blended surrealistically with the symbols of childhood. Themes involve man's existential absurdities, parenthood, abuse, the obscure object of womanhood, all reaching an enigmatic conclusion. A somewhat interesting, amusing, dialogue-free, and visually hypnotic art-piece, but too enigmatic or abstract to build-up satisfaction.

Mama, May or Insidious? Which one should I watch guys? I've decided to watch a horror tonight and I've narrowed it down to those three.

Insidious by extremely far...

Mama is decent and May is boring

I have a very good one but it's highly innapropriate for a forum :p Just Google'd it. You, sir, deserve a cookie!
Downloading the soundtrack for The Beyond when suddenly... Kinda unrelated, but the other day I was searching for the Japanese anime film Akira, but all the results I got was some Asa Akira porn. Well, I guess it wasn't the worst mismatch I had... It was pretty good, actually.

My kinky Queen, where are you?! I summon you!

May is the less good of the three in my opinion...

Only watch Insidious if you want to be discouraged regarding modern horror. :p

I don't need Insidious to be discouraged about it.

The scariest things are those you can't see... Just imagine waking up and going to the bathroom to take a leak and then discovering there's no penis. You would be scared beyond imagination! See?

Well, I can't argue with that.

I love the fact people post more often here than on shoutbox, which is meant for this kind of offtopic talk. :)

So I have a story idea in my head... its actually a retelling of a story.. It wont be gruesome or anything.. Just one that I enjoy and I want to put it in my own words...
