I was just getting out of the shower while my wife was in the living room. I got a text from her that just said "Swan". I said, wtf does that mean? She said, I don't know I sent it on accident. Then she said, isn't there a Swan in your movie club? I said yea. She says, are you and Swan having an affair? I said, Swan's a guy. She says, like I said, are you and Swan having an affair?

There aren't many serious Superhero movies. Most of them are terrible shameless cash cows with lousy acting and 16-year-old fan-fiction plots.

After the recent superhero bashing we've done, I decided to come up with my favorite (live-action) superhero films. I know I will lose some credibility with some of my "super, serious film buff buddies" because of some of these choices, but a man can't change how he feels, can he?
I could also lose some credibility with those who are genre sticklers, but I can live with that.
JJ, don't forget Kick Ass 1&2, and Mystery Men is a pretty funny superhero comedy.
Also, there's this movie that looks hilarious but I have not seen: Blankman (1994)
I would also say Spiderman (2002), and Batman Returns are legit.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first Kick Ass, and I haven't seen the sequel or Mystery Men. I haven't seen Spiderman or Batman Returns recently enough to include them, but I wore out those VHS tapes when I was a lad.
My fav superhero movie is Tim Burton's Batman.

I just saw my Spanish teacher from high school - I always had (have) the biggest crush on her.. I saw her today, and as I approached her, I heard a woman's voice "I had you, too" and it was a girl from my graduating class.. I think I'll go there more often, instead of waiting til the fridge is empty. She got married after I graduated, but a majority of marriages end up in divorces anyway, so I can wait :)

A question to experts (like jirafferapist, whoops, rapist != rapper): If somebody like Kanye West samples any track does he need some sort of permission, license or copyrights to do it? What if artists he sampled sued him for stealing their work?

Samples are a staple of hip-hop music. It can be used in all sorts of ways, a lot of times you hear samples and you don't even know you are hearing a sample.
Haven't listened to Watch the Throne or Life of Pablo since its been out for like an hour, the rest of his albums are all good. Graduation is probably the weakest of those IMO.
I retracted my statement because I like when people get permission to sample music, but I still think it's barely different than when Led Zeppelin takes a riff from some old blues song, or steals a riff from Spirit, to make their own songs. Taking things and making anew with it is a part of art. DEAL WITH IT.

The bigger artists absolutely have to get permission, because they will get at least threatened with a lawsuit. Some underground artists might stand a chance at getting away with not getting permission. It's a case by case basis, but sometimes samples are free, other times artists have to pay for them.
Kanye sampled Aretha Franklin once, and she had a condition that he couldn't curse on that track. He had to fade the curses out.
Sometimes artists think something of theirs is being sampled without credit being given. It really just depends on all of the artists involved as to how the situation is handled.

I just think auto-tune, pro-tools, and drum machines take the art out of art. No humanity, a robot does it all. Pushing a button isn't talent. Practice and hard work and talent used to be respected, and used to change people and the world. Social decay.
Matt, go download a DAW, get a drum machine, and try to make something worthwhile. Come back after your first attempt, when you will have no doubt failed (as anyone would after their first attempt), and talk to me about how there is no practice, hard work or talent required for electronic music.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn187/bdfolsom/electronic-music%20peakafeller_zpsazhrstie.png
As for the humanity thing, here's what I once wrote about the topic in another thread:
It's just a different way of making music. It is complicated, but I love complicated, glitchy music - It's taking these calculated computer sounds and trying to make something human with it. It's finding humanity in something that is inherently inhuman. We're becoming an increasingly technological people, and I think as humans we're trying to find our humanity through that technology. That's all this electronic music is. It's humanistic exploration, it's progressive, and in my opinion is essential to us better understanding ourselves in an increasingly electronic and inhuman world.
+1 for you Swan. Even though I'm hardly a lover of electronic music, I think it's very creative, original, and good use of technology.

Ultralight Beam

And as for the albums I have definitely changed my views on Kanye... I'd rank them (along with the best songs from each)
The College Dropout - Jesus Walks
Graduation - Everything I Am / Flashing Lights
MBDTF - Blame Game / All of the Lights
Late Registration - Diamonds from Sierra Leone
Yeezus - Black Skinhead
808s and Heartbreaks - Street Lights

Yeah it's dumb. But it's more than dumb - it's a dick move to take credit for other peoples hard work and accomplishments. Do you want someone else to take credit for your ideas or accomplishments?
The reason kayne seems the most hated is because it's not just one thing he has said, it's a consistent pattern of behavior.

I don't understand in situations like these why people seem to take things so personally, like Kanye is attacking them or something. Why do people care so much to let themselves get angry or emotionally invested in what you thinking he is saying? It just becomes boring in my opinion, an easy target, someone posts some bad news about what he says, everyone comments swearing at him, I don't know what it achieves.
Daniel M

And he says he spoke to her on the phone about it for an hour and she thought it was funny, and even suggested including it. Obviously we don't know what is true or not, but Taylor Swift has done so well because of the way she markets herself. I think it could be entirely possible that she now denies this because of the backlash or altogether it was ploy to get more attention for her, look how much she's been in the news recently, I've seen her speech so many times the last couple of days.

same reason people are into sports I imagine. I've never understood any of it, people get so riled up and shout at the television or riot in the streets.
if you can get that passionate about the atlantis mermen or whatever then why not get that passionate about t.swift. Actually it makes more sense to me because at least swift is an artist and art can effect someones life under the right conditions.
Makes more sense to me to be passionate about an artist than a sports team.
Yeah, but it is getting passionate over some stupid media rivalry that i find extremely dumb and weird. Being passionate about their music is fine encouraged even, there are clearly some people who don't listen to Swift or Kanye that eat all this celebrity feud crap up.
Daniel M
02-17-16, 01:08 PM
People invest time and a lot of money into following sports teams. I guess they do with musicians to a lesser degree, and their entitled to feel passionate whether their music or whatever is good or bad, but all this media stuff just seems silly and crying out for attention for me, like something out of WWE. And yeah, most of these people I see moaning about Kanye don't listen to or like his music, or know anything about him, but just jump on the bandwagon and launch a sweary rant every time he says something wrong.
Reality television is all the rage. it's basically the same thing.
I will say it's hard to be over here and not hear when these sorts of things are going on with celebrities. I could care less, but I still hear a whole lot of it. The thing is many of these celebrities crave the attention and that's why they do it. Kayne definitely strikes me as someone who wants the attention. So the problem is three pronged, us who listen and buy whatever the celebrity is selling, the media who keeps it at the front of our monds, and the celebrities that initiate it. It is a very unfortunate part of our culture but if we didn't buy all the art these people create we wouldn't have the infinite amount of art to consume either. Which for a whole lot of us is a very enjoyable part of life.

How do you think Life of Pablo stacks up against the rest of his albums? I'm getting it tomorrow, been listening to his other albums constantly since yesterday in preparation.
I'm still in the introductory phase with The Life of Pablo, so I don't have a firm grasp as to where to place it against his other albums. I do like it so far, but how much is yet to be determined. A friend of mine had a great way to describe it, he said the album could just be called "Casual Greatness." He mentioned that you could see how hard Kanye worked on his other albums, but this album seemed to have the least amount of work put into it. I know what he means, and I know he doesn't mean that in a negative way.
Would buy.
I would love to hook you up but it's only available on my streaming service that like ten people have signed up for.
Maybe, except that Kanye is a great musician.

All i've heard about it so far is that it is just a random collection of Kanye tracks without anything holding it all together, no theme to the album essentially like the rest of them. Doesn't sound like a negative to me, some scattered Kanye madness sounds great to me.
How do you have his other albums right now?
I'd go: MBDTF>The College Dropout>808s>Yeezus>Graduation>Late Registration
The only one that hasn't worked for me really yet is LR, hoping i have a better experience shortly when i put it on. Also 808s and Yeezus are really close, i'm listening to Yeezus right now and i'm digging it more than usual.
I need to check out Yeezus. Have a feeling I will love it. Right now, though, 808's is my fave.

808s is amazing. Noticed a lot of people have it last or second last. Makes me sad :(
Definitely seems to be his most underrated album.

My biggest problem with Kanye is the same problem I have with anyone who can't pronounce their own name correctly. Demi Moore, Colin Powell, Sade, Beyoncé. I give people like Johnathon Ross a pass. ;)

haha. Colin Powell is definitely the worst offender there.
Camo, you a Kendrick fan?
Camo, you a Kendrick fan?
Been meaning to listen to him for the longest time, he only has two albums i'll make him my priority after i'm done with The Life of Pablo. The first time i ever listened to or heard of him was actually when you posted one of his songs, maybe even in this thread, can't remember what it was or if i liked it though.
Yeah, i've not heard many of his songs at all, the only song i'm really familiar with is his one with Taylor Swift because it was everywhere at one point.
I'll buy one of his albums this week. Would you say i should go for GKMC, since it his first or To Pimp a Butterfly?

Let me first say I think Kendrick is the most important musical act going on right now. I think he's a revolutionary musical and cultural force.
But I can't answer that question. Get both, listen to them back to back. They are both genius in their own right and in entirely different ways. They're very different, and every Kendrick fan I have talked to personally seems to have a difficult time deciding which is their favorite. GKMC has more "catchy hits," and I know the album basically by heart now. But that means nothing because TPAB might be more "sophisticated". GKMC might be more personal, as it's a concept album about his growing up in Compton. TPAB is more massive in scale, more politically and culturally relevant, and much more ambitious.
Point is, you really can't go wrong with either, but you should just get both. And please, read the lyrics if you can, especially with GKMC. It is incredible lyrically, as well as musically.
For the record though, I think this is the best song by Kendrick. I recently showed it to a buddy of mine who hasn't listened to GKMC before, and we just kind of sat in silence when it was over, kind of stunned. Then he just said "wow." If nothing else, it shows what a phenomenal storyteller he is.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmV_HEIwXGs
Thanks for the advice Swan. Will get used to GKMC first then i'll go for TPAB. I've actually already read a bit about TPAB by accident, just kind of stumbled onto a review of it that explained what issues the album largely touches on so i am already looking forward to it.
Not a bad idea, Camo. But if you don't like GKMC, I'll kick your ass... I mean, if you don't like GKMC, definitely check out TPAB still. :D

I'll listen to both then not mention what i think ever. You'll ask and i'll hit you with the old Kendrick who? routine.

I don't know, really. I like all of his albums. Graduation would be in last place, but it's still great.
Late Registration was actually my introduction to Kanye, so it holds more sentimental and nostalgic value than all the others.
I usually notice one or two main things that really hold Kanye albums together. From MBDTF it was general overproduction, Yeezus was the drums and minimalism, and 808s was the bass, vulnerability, and autotune. This album is a little messier than anything else he's ever done, but there seems to be nods to all of his previous albums. I can also sense some experimentation in album structure, as far as the order of the tracklist. Just general stuff like that is what I've mainly noticed so far.
Kanye's budding family is clearly a larger influence on him in this album, as a ton of references to his kids and his wife are present. Some of them are really touching, when he talked about covering his children in lambs' wool because they are surrounded by the f*cking wolves in particular. Which also goes hand-in-hand with one of the other major themes of the album: Kanye's faith and religion. "Ultralight Beam" is basically a gospel song, and Kanye makes a lot of references to Paul from the Bible. In fact, the album title refers to several people, including Paul. You may even be able to break the album down into its themes and structure by the (at least) three people it references: Pablo Picasso, Pablo Escobar, and Paul from the Bible.
That was beautiful JJ, can't wait to listen to it now.

Yeah, if only he wasn't a total prick. Right JJ?
You know, if I wanted a lot of rep I could just keep posting "Kanye West is a talentless prick," but then I'd be no better than a politician.

I wrote up a response to your post about getting rep for calling Kanye a prick, it was rather lengthy and wasn't finished yet. I deleted it though, because I don't think it would be worth it to spend all that effort trying to tell other people something they don't want to hear. It just proves that I am not as Kanye as Kanye.

I saw this tweet from Kanye the other day:
I love love love white people but you don't understand what it means to be the great grandson of ex slaves and make it this far.
A lot of people were really pissed at this for reasons i shouldn't need to explain. Still i feel he gets maligned more than most as if his words here are more deliberate and worse than any other moronic celeb comparing their very minor problems to the holocaust or whatever. When you see how enthusiastic Kanye was about his album release you notice he was just being a dumb celeb with his head firmly in one place.

Classical music uses no words, but the music itself is greatly superior to rap music.

Jun Togawa for example - I have no idea what she is mumbling about, but her "flow" is better than any raper EVER, PERIOD. The music itself is amazing, too. Yes, quite simple, but incredibly catchy and amazing new wavish feel to it.
With rap - if I don't look up the lyrics, I don't get anything for most of the time. There are exceptions, like Killer Mike on R.A.P. music has an incredible flow and I don't really have to delve into the lyrics at all. Kno is my favourite, though. I like rap, I really do. If you can't understand the language it's presented in, then you should find a way to read the lyrics translated to your language. The same concept applies to seeing a film with subtitles. If you only consider one aspect of his music, then you have done yourself a disservice and really shouldn't give out any kind of grade to the music as an entire piece.
And as far as classical music vs hip-hop beats, it really depends on the pieces you are comparing. I don't see how you can really compare everything of one genre against another.

Looking up the lyrics is encouraged. You shouldn't judge anything based on a singular quality it possesses.

If you can't understand the language it's presented in, then you should find a way to read the lyrics translated to your language. The same concept applies to seeing a film with subtitles. Most of my favourite movies don't even have to be understood in order to be masterpieces and make the viewer amazed. Actually, I didn't even understand Werckmeister Harmonies plot-wise the first time I watched it, but I still felt I just watched the ultimate masterpiece of filmmaking. All of it was achieved without or with very spare use of language. I don't even understand like 95% of my favourite music, because it's either in a foreign language I don't know, English (I could understand most of it if I focused on the lyrics and got it a proper listen, but I never do) or Polish (then I understand it whether or not I want to or not - actually I used to hate all Polish music just for this sheer reason, but there are some real masterpieces of Polish music anyway - again rarely lyrically-wise).
If you only consider one aspect of his music, then you have done yourself a disservice and really shouldn't give out any kind of grade to the music as an entire piece. It means I can't rate Tibetan throat singing because I can't understand Tibetan.
And as far as classical music vs hip-hop beats, it really depends on the pieces you are comparing. I don't see how you can really compare everything of one genre against another. Simply on the basis of quantity of quality. For me there's just lots more great classical music than there is rap music.
Looking up the lyrics is encouraged. You shouldn't judge anything based on a singular quality it possesses. No transcendental & metaphysical feelings from rap neither! One dimensonial!
Now if a certainly quality outweighs the rest of the qualities and that sways your opinion one way or the other, that's fine too. Yeah, lyrics are of least importance for me, but I can understand people who only listen to rap for lyrics (because nobody would do this for beats, right? Actually I have a friend who does )

It means I can't rate Tibetan throat singing because I can't understand Tibetan.
Maybe I should clarify, or perhaps retract my statement and try to establish a better representation of how I feel about "rating" something without looking at the whole picture.
I just mean that you should try to give every aspect of the piece you are examining a fair shake. Especially when the purpose of the piece is heavily represented by that aspect. Hip hop is a very lyrically driven genre, and when you judge hip hop, lyrics should be taken into account.
I am not familiar with Tibetan throat singing, but it doesn't sound like lyricism is the most important aspect... once again, I don't know anything about Tibetan throat singing.
I don't know if I used the word understand anywhere, but if I did use it, I didn't mean it in the way where you grasp the meaning of the work. There's a lot of things I love that I don't fully understand, but I can appreciate it regardless.
I think I can appreciate film with no language, or I can enjoy a film centered around nonstop dialogue. Perhaps you just have a certain way of consuming art that is different than the way I do, and we'll never be able to empathize with each other.
No transcendental & metaphysical feelings from rap neither! One dimensonial!
I am not sure what you mean here, because I've gotten some of those feelings from hip hop. But just comparing experiences won't really get us anywhere when we just sit on opposite sides of the fence.
Yeah, lyrics are of least importance for me, but I can understand people who only listen to rap for lyrics (because nobody would do this for beats, right? Actually I have a friend who does )
I don't only listen to rap for the lyrics, it's the overall package that I like. Some songs have great beats that excite me while the lyricism lacks and vice versa.
If you aren't interested in the lyrical content in hip hop, then it probably won't be for you.

How would you defend him?
He talks about his family all the time, so he cares about somebody other than himself.
He also talks about trying to bring other people up in the world, as he has done with a lot of other musicians.
The tweet about the school in Africa is, I think, a bit of a silly joke. The whole context behind it though, was that he was asking for a billionaire to invest a billion dollars in him, so he would have the funds to "make the world dope." He also tweeted that instead, Zuckerburg built one school in Africa, as if that was going to make a difference. The point wasn't that building schools in Africa doesn't help, it's that building one school in Africa won't end up making as big of a difference as Kanye thinks he can make.

Why do you think Kanye is an a-hole personally Gatsby?
Do you actually think he is an a-hole or do you hear everone else saying he is a A-hole and think, yeah he probably is?

Well, first of all, interrupting another person's acceptance speech is not an act of good manner.

Is that it then? It is the only thing that is ever brought up, and you said first of all yet posted one thing haha.

I used to hate all Polish music just for this sheer reason, but there are some real masterpieces of Polish music anyway - again rarely lyrically-wise).
Indeed there are. This was marvellous.

Saying first of all doesn't mean you have the post second, third and fourth.
More importantly, I don't care about what Kanye does. It doesn't make me mad at all. t's his life, and he's entitled to his own decisions and thoughts.

Couldn't agree more with your second sentence but i just want to post this sentence so it is clear what i was originally responding to.

No idea about modern; JJ and Swan will give you the best recs there. Listen to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx if you haven't though.

Kanye West
Killer Mike/ El-P/ Run the Jewels
Kendrick Lamar
Chance the Rapper
Danny Brown
Freddie Gibbs
I listen to these rappers the most. I know we already mentioned most of these dudes in the last few pages, but this is what I am most comfortable suggesting from the last 3-4 years. I may have missed somebody obvious, but this is just off the top of the dome.
If you feel like going nuts, try Death Grips.

I forgot to mention The Roots, you should absolutely listen to The Roots. I don't know if OutKast counts as modern, but it doesn't matter when in time they came, you should listen to their entire discography.
Oh, The Roots. Possibly my favorite. I dance to them.

To me, modern rap music is awful. I thought it was a lot better around 5 years ago. Rick Ross is/was my favorite rapper, so anything from him I would recommend. Drake's first 2 albums I thought were really good, and I thought Kanye's Dark Beautiful Fantasy whatever-the-hell-it's-called album was pretty good also. Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, M.A.D.D City was pretty much the last rap album I really liked. I could go on really, there was quite a bit of rap I listened to...
You asked for modern rap music though, so I can't help you. :(
BUT! If you've never heard of Andre Nickatina, do yourself a favor and listen to this!

Run away. I had let him out and went to take an hour and a half long nap, not knowing one of the people who are working on the remodel left the gate open. So he went out. I woke up, found out he was gone, and went outside exactly as someone was coming around the block with him, looking for his owner.
Nothing too serious, thank goodness not lost as in dead, but... still a rush.

Glad he's back. :) I love dogs anyway. We had a few of them. I remember the first one was a German shepard who was in police use and given to us after retirement. He was HUGE. Briksi was the name. I was like 5 or something, i used to sleep on him.. Then another GS, and the last one was a Labrador retriever. They're from New Found Land. SIR we used to call him.

Been watching Sergey Kovalev all night while listening to this. For the record the best song on Graduation is Kovalev vs Pascal 1.
The more i watch Sergey the less confidence i have in him, that first fight with Pascal really annoys me especially the seventh round he starts it off by pushing him through the bottom rope then easily dodging a large desperate swing from Pascal then he spends the rest clearly mocking him and taking the last desperate punches of Pascal. That would all be fine if Kovalev wasn't rocked himself in the third round i think, Pascal really stunned him if he had the confidence to follow it through i think Sergey would have been knocked out, instead he was given the chance to regroup and dictate the rhythm of the fight. Thing is as much as i hate him there is no chance a fight with Adonis Stevenson is going to go this way, i actually would never have thought i would say this but at the moment at least i'd pick Stevenson to win.
Been writing like crazy. I've been finding the best way for me to get into it is to be inspired by some sort of art, but literally then just sit down with a vague scene and write it, then keep on writing whatever comes to mind. It's important to not worry about anything, any "rules" the first draft, you can revise it later on. Have filler scenes! Have loads of exposition! Tell, don't show! When you're done, go back and revise.
Starting though - and this might just be what works for me - it's important to let loose and just write. As you do that, you'll begin to think about the story and where it can go, and will just keep writing scenes. That's how it works for me. So much fun.
Basically the opposite of how I work. I determine the whole plot and every scene in my head before i start writing. more like work than fun but I think I get better results that way personally.
and of course it still needs a lot of rewrites and polishing

I have done that before. Senior year of high school, I worked on a script by planning it out in my head, outlining it, writing it. But... I still haven't finished it. I think I work better just letting loose, discovering the characters and story as I go along. I don't think it really matters which way you do it, because either way you can go back and revise, make it better.
When Charlie Kaufman wrote the first draft of Being John Malkovich, Malkovich was non-existent in the entire story. Imagine that.
One of my biggest inspirations and influences when it comes to writing is Breaking Bad, but I think they did a mixture of loose writing and planning it out. When they started a season, they didn't know where it would go eventually. But they planned out each episode as they worked on them, obviously. So it was "loose" season-wise, but "planned" episode wise.
things always change during shooting, but I thought the general arc of breaking bad was planned out in advance since the beginning

To me, this means you haven't done it. It means you tried to do it.
Sorry if that is rough to hear.

No. I think Gilligan had in mind the ending - that, spoilers, he would die. But more than that, I doubt it.
For example, when they started season three, they had no idea what would happen with those twins. They wrote them and then saw where it would take them. And you can kind of tell, they don't really amount to anything.
The writers have talked about it, they call it "problem solving as writing". Like, they'll put the characters in an impossible-to-get-out-of situation, and get them out of it. It's pretty awesome, I think.
To me, this means you haven't done it. It means you tried to do it.
Sorry if that is rough to hear.
Well, you're not wrong, because I never finished it, but I'm not sure what the point is of pointing that out.
Actually, I DID do it once after high school, but that was for a short film. And it was crap.
Yeah I think writing is 80% problem solving but it might just be the style of writing that I do. It's tough when you have ideas that don't quite jive in the story and you have to find a seamless organic way of working them in.
Breaking bad arc starting off as a good guy and turning into the villain is what i mean.. i certainly don't expect them to have every character and incident for all 5 seasons written out in advance. But they know where to start and where you end and then the show creator hires writers to fill in the middle.
Well, you're not wrong, because I never finished it, but I'm not sure what the point is of pointing that out.
Well you're saying it doesn't matter which way you go but you don't have two finished scripts to compare and make a judgement on the finished product being better for you with one style.
I know everyones got their own writing style, and we're not exactly getting paid or have a ton of fans  so it makes sense to go with whichever is the most fun.

Oh yeah yeah yeah, they definitely knew his arc in that regard, yeah.
I find my biggest trouble is f*cking plotholes. I'm always finding problems with my scripts in that regard. Like "why didn't they just..." type stuff. But, I guess that's what revisions are.
I wouldn't know. You're a more experienced writer, foster, because you've actually finished stuff.

I'm still confused what you are trying to get at. I know I don't. A lot of this is speculation. I like to ramble about this stuff as I'm figuring it out. :p
my first short film was so bad I didn't even post it on my Facebook.. second one was well received but man I haven't released anything in forever. I'll finally get my fake interview with the vampire lestat trailer out early next month but that's more of a salvage operation than what I intended to release.
Painful that I haven't actually released anything new in over a year.. two projects i'm working on are both long term things. I did write a cool psychological horror script though! hopefully I can start working on that in march.

I wish I were more experienced than I am. my criminal bound series is like 45 pages and the last 30 are pretty good. I've yet to write a feature though.. I will start one this year but I don't know anything about the story yet. Other than it will be a crime thriller since those are the cheapest to produce.
I'm really really hard on movies about plot holes so I try my best. but sometimes a mistake will slip by me. the only armor you can have against it is to get opinions from other smart people whom you can trust their judgement. I love having smart people on set while filming just in case i missed something.

Hah IDK not really going anywhere with it. Just that for me personally working things out in my head leads to smarter scripts. I like to pace in circles and stuff while I think about my outlines
psychological horror about 6 pages.. and it's found footage. something that I can shoot quickly without a full crew and release in a reasonable time frame.

Yeah, that's a good point and good advice. Daniel M and I share what we are writing with each other all the time, and he's always quick to point out plot holes. I love that kind of feedback, because I suck at detecting plot holes.
Hah IDK not really going anywhere with it. Just that for me personally working things out in my head leads to smarter scripts. I like to pace in circles and stuff while I think about my outlines
I get you. Maybe you are right. I used to get really into my script and think so much about it, that it would overcomplicate the story and I would get too obsessive. My vision might have been cool, but it became so complex I never wrote anything! I just had it in my head. So, I think for me, it's not a good way to go about it. I have had to learn to be more loose in my writing. Maybe I will find a balance eventually, I don't know.
I imagine if Fincher were to be a writer, he'd plan everything out in advance. Then you have Tarantino, who just writes writes writes, then revises.
When a lot of people film, myself included, you plan everything as meticulously as you can. Then when you get on set you kinda throw it out the window and improvise  but without all that planning if you tried to improvise it would be an absolute mess.
Well, I finished it. 32 pages. Time to revise and expand!
