I'm definitely going to look into financing a crown. Whether or not I need to rob a bank is another story. But yeah, dental work being considered cosmetic is garbage. Dental pain is horrible, and so is not being able to eat. Next they'll tell us our arms are cosmetic, or something equally silly.

I've heard a lot of bad experiences with gall bladders, kidney stones, and the like. Thankfully I've never experienced any of that. All my problems are from the neck up haha.

I'm sorry to hear that. That's awful. It's odd because I have randomly thought of the same thing happening to me. My teeth are a bit long and there is a hairline crack in one of my fronts. Cosmetic might be an OK cop-out for a back tooth, but not a front one. The front teeth are how you greet the world. Try not to worry too much. I've seen a couple pics of you, you're a pretty girl. You'll get this sorted out somehow. I financed my own braces about 10 years ago. The dentist did a payment plan. I made little money but got it done without starving. I used to look like the Jerry Lewis version of the Nutty Professor. Like you said, though - just put some back smears under each eye. Ride that puppy out.

CosmicRunaway

Thank you very much Joel.

Yeah, I wouldn't be so worried if it wasn't my front tooth. I just hope that no more of it cracks off before I can get it fixed.

Half of my front tooth just cracked off.

It's 8:15 on a Friday night, so the dentist is closed. They're not open over the weekend. I don't even know what to do. :bawling:
Ouch! Hope you can get it attended to before Monday.

CosmicRunaway, maybe entertatint eh idea of some apple sauce, custard and sweet potato paste if those don't make you sick. Also, I've been horsing around with a meal replacement shake every morning, not because I'm huge, but because I don't have any time to eat in the mornings. Those things are crazy. Tons of nutrients, my complexion improved, my energy, I'm full (that's important) and I thinned right out. Anyway, in your acse it'd just be to avoid the temptation of steak and apples, etc.

I got my front tooth fixed, for less than half of what I was expecting to pay out.

On the down side, those 15 minutes at the dentist cost me my entire morning. I left the house at 9:10, and after I got there I was only waiting a few minutes. After I left their office, by the time I got to the bus stop the next bus was just around the corner. I just got home a couple of minutes ago, and it's nearly 12:15.

If I had a car, this wouldn't have taken 3 hours, since you can get there in about 20 minutes (maybe half an hour depending on traffic). Just not on the bus. :suspicious:

A full truck was delivered to the store today, with an unexpected guest: a raccoon. We do not have raccoons in Newfoundland, so it must have come across the water on the Oceanex. Animal Control think it was likely on the truck since it left Ontario a week ago.

Security showed us the video of the raccoon poking it's head up from in under the ramp, walk over to the corner of the door and watch the guy in Receiving unpack a box. He never noticed the raccoon out of the corner of his eye, not even when he walked past it, then turned around (in the direction of the raccoon, not on the opposite side). It wasn't until the raccoon was walking back onto the truck that he saw it.

It was absolutely hilarious. Especially when someone who works in another part of the store was just walking past, saw the raccoon, and ran away so fast he looked like a cartoon. What wasn't funny was that we then had to try and unload the truck as quickly as possible (into huge piles in the receiving bay) so that Animal Control could find and capture it. After spending almost the entire day doing this, the raccoon was spotted outside under the truck. :suspicious:

Raccoons are not indigenous to this region, so releasing it likely wouldn't be a good idea anyway.

It's very unlikely that they'll bring it back to the mainland, but maybe Salmonier Nature Park needs a new attraction? I've seen raccoons in zoos before. At least the little guys seems to have had some fun on his trip. He tore open a number of children's bath toys and had them scattered about the truck.

If anyone wants to take part in the Director of the Month for September please post in the thread. We haven't picked a director yet and we're open to suggestions. All it is is four films from a director we pick and we watch and discuss them over the month, you don't have to watch all of the films if you don't want to of course.

Don't you just love it when you get awaken by a drilling neighbour? It just happened. I know people have to work, but they dril, scream, shout, yell, bang here all my life. It 's like you're on a rock concert. That happens often too. They play music so loud, yyou hear it louder than you'd on your own stereo. But not me. I have my own means of fighting. My dad has the Sansui Au-919 amplifier (2x110 Watts sine, 2x250 Watts peak power (meaning it can hold 110 continuously, and 250 for a while)) and Acoustic Research AR 9 loudspeakers, 300 Watts each. The gramophone is Thorens TD 126 Mk III electronic, it's the best Thorens after Thorens Reference, but that thing costs some 500 000$. He took it away to the coastline with him, but since I'm buying again so much records, he brought it back. He didn't put it together yet, though. But when he does... my poor neighbours. I used to listen especially loudly to Sgt.Pepper's (about 70% power), especially when it reaches A Day in the Life (90% because then it really begins hurting your ears). But I couldn't resist even that on Magical Mystery Tour, Let it be, and especially Abbey Road (especially its B-side). 100%. Take that, my sweet neighbours. I even intend on buying a much more powerfull equipment. Hell, this guy practices drums every single afternoon in the basement! It's gonna be a rock 'n' roll war in which I'll blow him away.

The Jazz Singer, Singin' in the Rain, West Side Story, and Hamilton! but i dont know how I feel about being "forced" to watch the rest of them. You always have a choice, and the beauty of university is that it is very flexible. You can take the classes you want and transfer your credits and switch schools. If you really want that specific degree from that specific school, and you think it's worth it, then go for it. But you still have a choice. Alternatively you can do what one of my profs did and aim for a barely passing grade and focus your time on the more important classes that are worth more credits.

Honestly though, a degree is just a worthless piece of paper. You can look up the course textbooks and assignments on the school's website, go to the library, use online resources, listen to lectures online, and teach yourself the course for free. Save thirty grand in the process, acquire the skills, and learn the knowledge in half the time.

Are these all available on DVD?

I don't think the Broadway shows Wicked and Hamilton have been released on DVD or made into movies yet. And I think Wonderful Town was only done as a TV movie back in the 1950s, and as far as I know, it's not available on DVD.

And I've never heard of Shuffle Along and Pacific Overtures.

I'm too lazy to either watch it in Russian (would require too much brain power) or translate it myself (would require too much time). Holy cow, Setsuko Hara is not a gangster in this. So, I'm on my way back from the small store just around the corner from my house. I hear from somewhere behind me a sincere sounding "Excuse me!". I turn, and I see a teenage girl in the back of a car passing by who says "I think you dropped your pocket!" I think, did she mean wallet? So I reach into my bag, and my wallet is still there. I then look back at the road to see if there's anything on the ground.

I hear her cackling as the car drives around the corner, and realize that she did indeed say "pocket", and that I'd made a fool of myself looking for it. As stupid as that was, I found it (or at least my reaction) kind of pretty funny, and walked the rest of the way home with a silly grin on my face. I'm still kind of chucking over it.

Well played, random teenage girl. Well played.

It's also funny because part of my mind was saying "That doesn't even make sense! How does one drop their pocket?", but then the other side of my mind, the one that make me burst laughing when I fall on ice or nearly trip over myself, was having a grand time.

I was never one for pranks when I was younger. I did call a random number once and ask if their refrigerator was running, then giddily told them that they'd better run after it, but that was about it. Unless you count fooling my little brother into eating weird things. If that's included, then I could occasionally be quite the prankster haha.

Irma is just starting to get to the southern tip, but I'm already getting some wind and rain in central-ish Florida. I've dealt with a lot of hurricanes before, but this one seems to be the biggest. The lights'll probably go out sometime tonight/tomorrow morning.

Hopefully you won't lose power for very long, or if you're lucky, not at all. Stay safe.

What part of Florida are you in? (My mom is in the West Palm Beach area.)

What is Roman style? In ancient Roma the rich would have these huge elaborate dinner banquets, with all the finest foods available. They would stuff themselves, then make themselves vomit and go back and eat more. It might sound gross to us, and it's probably not a healthy choice, but it was considered civilized as it was done by the elite. As far as using a finger to vomit, I never heard if they did or didn't. I seen this on a show about ancient Roma, but I don't remember how they emptied their stomach contents? It could be with a semi toxic drink, like wormwood.

Ha, that's more info then anyone every wanted to know:p

From tomorrow we are attempting to get this Musical Artists Countdown going. The thread has been up for two weeks now, if you haven't sent a list then expect some personal harassment (profile comment and nothing else ) from me asking for your list. Think the other two Countdowns have been fun so ideally everyone should take part, music especially could be a really interesting thing as i think taste in music is often alot more unique and personal than movies and tv shows particularly on a visual media forum.

Had a discussion with someone who felt that they didn't listen to enough kinds of music to send a "good list", that's nonsense. Whatever you like is a good list. We have had a massive range of artists voted for, not sure what it's at now but after 11 lists we had 99 different artists out of a possible 110. So far 16/50 have qualified. Hope everyone sends a list, these are only supposed to be fun one night things so please don't be concerned about what your list looks like. Also i posted all the lists at the end of the TV Countdown, that was because i had made two mistakes and i kind of wanted to show i made no others. I shouldn't have done that and won't again so if you don't want to share your list after its done you don't have to.

Just got back from seeing Suspiria on the big screen. It was unreal. And, funny story: there was a raffle where three people got to win something. But it required two halves of the ticket, and when I bought the ticket a few hours earlier, the dude accidentally ripped it down the middle - leaving me with only one half. So later on, they had to put a makeshift ticket in the raffle bowl and give me it's counterpart - he wrote "pee" on one and "poo" on the other.

I was the first to get called. I ended up winning Phenomena on blu-ray, which I already have, but still was awesome. Maybe my Suspiria shirt was a good luck charm.

Swan

Well, I made my first live setup. It will no doubt go through a bunch of changes, additions etc. but I used what I had. Now I need to work with it. I practiced tonight, started working on a song. Definitely exhilarating even if it was no good. Ya know... no matter what style of music, there's a big difference between recording and live performance. Both are powerful artforms but the distinction needs to be made. I have experience with recording, now it's time to get experience with performing.

So, I was the only person who showed up to work this morning adhering to our dress code. :suspicious:

The store recently announced that it was closing, so apparently within a few days, everyone (including our store manager) decided to say screw the rules. Since I'd cut back to only a day or two a week (I got a new job last month and have been working both), I wasn't aware of this new wear what you want policy. Everyone was dressed in these nice, bright, vibrant colours, and I was just stood there looking like I just came from a funeral.

Purity Ring isn't *that* great, but I absolutely love the lyrical hook to "Fireshrine". Gives me a surreal feeling. This might sound silly, but the best way I can describe the feeling is as finding comfort when you know you're going to die. There's just something fatalistic about it, but also, yeah, comforting. I dunno. It speaks to me.

Get a little closer, let fold
Cut open my sternum, and pull
My little ribs around you
The rungs of me be under, under you

I added my gigantic Yamaha P105 keyboard to my live set cause I'm stupid and want to do live piano performance stuff. Even though I can barely play piano. lol. Gonna suck lugging it around, if this ever becomes something. MY DREAMS EXCEED MY GRASP!

We used to have an old Vibe electric piano while I was growing up, Swan. Man I loved the sound of that thing!

I'm currently up to my elbows in onions and meat, many pounds of meat. We're throwing a big dinner tomorrow night for 15 peeps and I'm attempting to get prepared ahead of time. I need some of those special onion goggles, methinks...

Love that character from The Wire. Never could figure out though why he was so sanguine about his prison term. His wife was hilarious in the show.

So after re-watching The King of Comedy the other day, I logged on here to read some of the reviews, as I sometimes do after watching a notable film. And in JayDee's review (linkage (https://www.movieforums.com/reviews/1074207-the-king-of-comedy.html)), he mentioned some girl who got fifteen minutes of fame for posting a video of herself eating her own used tampon. Being the curious sort, I naturally had to seek out said video, which then resulted in 2+ hours traveling down a dark, disgusting rabbit hole of watching people eat nasty, gnarly sh*t (literal sh*t, in some cases). So, um, yeah . . . thanks for that, JayDee. Most intense orgasm I've had in awhile.

Me and my friend, Sam, who worked with me to create my short film The Job Hunt shot a short promotional video recently for the Labour party in our constituency. Pretty pleased with the result - largely down to him, and there's a short appearance from me in there too if anyone spots it :D

Ha - I was going to add as a note: No political comments please :p

It was my first opportunity to make something film/video related since I made my short film, and I had a great time meeting some great people and being able to film all that. The main guy is a Guardian journalist who my friend coincidentally sat next to on his train down from London, so he got to know him and said we could make a video of him and basically follow him for the day.

I'm really pleased with the end result, I think it works really well.
