I just want to crawl back into bed. My abs hurt from coughing so much. I keep gagging and dry heaving when I cough. I can only breathe out of one nostril right now and I don't have enough sick hours to call in again and don't have a day off until Friday. If I hadn't called in last Thursday, I'd have gotten stuck working 11 days straight. FML.

I'm off to San Francisco tomorrow... Of course, there has to be snow storms here. I got a haircut and shaved yesterday for the first time in months, I'm freezing in the house!

I'm staying at an apartment of a person I've never seen in person, and she's not even there, she mailed me the keys. Also, with possible school closings, I might have to get another ride. I always think I'm forgetting things, but I can't wait til I'm finally there.

Take care of yourself, matt and enjoy it. :)

I've found this vinyl stuff to almost be a lifestyle change, because there's so much care involved (compared to, say, MP3) and there's the physical copy and taking them out of their sleeves and all that. I mean, the extra care might be inconvenient (http://i.imgur.com/n4pwIG3.jpg) for some people, but I love it. And I love that it encourages me to listen to an album in full.
I can understand that completely. That was part of the whole experience of buying and listening to music. You listened to the album. You didn't skip tracks and so some songs which you didn't like too much on a first listen may well become a favourite sometime later. Songs could grow on you and building an album was a skill. If the tracks were placed in the right order the album worked so much better. You sat there and listened to the album while studying the cover. The sleeve notes, the lyrics (if they were there), each and every corner of the cover was looked at in minute detail. You loved those records. You only touched the edges and the label. You placed the needle on the record. If you dropped the needle you had a sharp intake of breath, hoping you haven't damaged it of course, but also just hating your own clumsiness. It's ritualistic and there are right and wrong ways of doing it.

So for a while I have been interested in early cinema... stuff that is silent and doesn't even have dialog cards...

Today is Charles Perrault's birthday and George Méličs, who is one of the early film makers, created a film based off one of Perrault's stories...

I wonder how hard it is to track down that film???

Man I'm exhausted!!! First proper bit of snow of the winter today and for once I actually didn't feel too bad in terms of my health. So I decided to take Jock (my dog) up the park and let him enjoy the snow. The wee fella had the time of his life, don't think I've ever seen him so happy. His tail was going like the clappers the whole time. We ended up walking for nearly 2 hours so when we got home we both pretty much collapsed.

Anyway during the past week I had yet another couple of appointments. The first was a barium procedure and then the 2nd was to check my nostrils to see if it was possible to have a camera down my nose after the failure last time. Apparently there's no reason why a camera shouldn't fit. And I'll just wait to see if anything comes of the barium test

I bought the screenplay for Jonny Mnemonic. I have a couple books on how to write screenplays, but it's a little tricky. So it's nice to have a complete screenplay for reference. Plus it's just a great read. It's amazing how things implied have to be portrayed and conveyed on film without the subtex explaining the significance.

I'm stoked for guitar tomorrow. The other night I stayed up through the night, and whenever I pull all-nighters I get really obsessed with something. Well, that night I was obsessed with music theory. It's amazing how, as you learn more about theory and familiarize yourself with it, it starts to make more sense. We all have an ear for the notes, and since music is about emotion more than anything, it kind of works itself around common sense... it's the kind of thing that has common sense as a foundation but then overcomplicates itself.

JR Hayes is no doubt my favorite lyricist. Just incredible.

The girl in the Slayer jacket
Gave me my first kiss
When I was in the seventh grade
She used to smoke
Weed with my older sister
In the woods behind the arcade

She had thick skin
But if you cut her
The wound
Would bleed forever
She would bleed forever

She hung herself
From an overpass
Down in McLean
Where the old trees loom

Her parents
Tried to sue Slayer
They blamed her boyfriend and PCP
But the truth is her eyes
Had been dead since she was five
She just hadn't disposed of her body

I looked online a bit, but I found it difficult to find specific ones, or ones of movies that interested me. I could only find the most popular movies. Do you know some good sites?

I stumbled upon a site today that made me remember your search for screenplays online. It's got scripts for a bunch of this years award-type films. There are obviously loads of other sites but just thought it might be interesting.

Yep, Nirvana is awesome, They single-handedly killed off crappy glam metal (which used to be great during the early 80s) and brought a decade of awesome grunge/alternative rock. Their second album is my favorite of the entire 90s.

When I was about 7 years old and my grandparents still lived on a farm in southern Missouri, I remember standing outside with everyone and hearing that noise... knowing that a tornado was not far off....

My grandmother was the one who pointed out that was the sound of a tornado near by..

Where I live we don't get tornadoes or hurricanes. We get golf ball to tennis ball size hail stones, and often times parts of my city get flooded out because of mountain runoff. Back in 2013 our city was basically shut down for days and the rivers that flow through town now flow different at certain spots and they've been doing rehab on river banks since all this happened, the flood hit a couple towns on the river basically decimating the smaller towns, and then leaving us in a state of emergency. The city is basically split North From South by the rivers, and our Downtown is essentially an island floating between these two rivers. They had to close down 95% of the bridges over water because they were scared they were gonna wash out. I couldn't go to work for 3 days, because I worked on the other side of the river. And when the downtown flooded all the underground electrical vaults in the core were flooded and people were left without power for days.

I've experienced three big earthquakes in western Washington state. The first was before I could walk.

The second was in the late 90s and I was setting down in a chair with my feet on the floor. It felt like a big wave passed under my feet...as if I was in a row boat out in the ocean. It was quiet but very strange feeling.

The third time was in 2001 and I was in the house and it felt like some giant had bashed the house with a giant bat. It was loud and everything shook. That one even has it's own Wiki page.

From what I've seen in the movies, I thought that an earthquake would be a lot of shaking up and down movements, but all I felt was a mild side to side swaying. It was kind of like being at the top of a high-rise building when it's very windy. It wasn't scary. It was more dizzying.

I guess that was because we were so far away from the epicenter.

You should see the supermarkets. The shelves are practically empty.

That's exactly what it really did -- it swayed. But it also felt like a very strong vibration. I think. I don't know. It's been five years. I just remember standing and feeling it out. Feeling it underneath me and all around me.

It's kind of strange that you don't really remember the feeling. I can remember it clear as day, like it just happened yesterday. (And I usually have a lousy memory.)

The third time was in 2001 and I was in the house and it felt like some giant had bashed the house with a giant bat. It was loud and everything shook. That one even has it's own Wiki page.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Nisqually_earthquake

That's more like what I thought it would feel like, but it didn't. But I felt something like that once when a house not too far away from my house exploded from a gas leak. (Fortunately nobody was home at the time so nobody was hurt or killed.)

Oh, I can remember the day and when it happened pretty well. I can sorta remember how it felt. And what it did. But I can't play back the whole situation 100% exactly, of course. I went in a kind of shock. I froze in place. Some people, I witnessed, ran for the exits, but not me, I just stood and froze in place and waited for it to be over. I felt kinda stupid later knowing that I didn't run for safety. Maybe I just knew there was nothing to worry about.

Yours must have been stronger than mine because I never felt like I was in any danger. I just felt like the room was swaying, and I was getting dizzy. I wasn't even sure that it was an earthquake until the news confirmed it.

Long day, and so much to sift through on here, though it looks to have been a fairly boring day on the forum?

There's a super fast Winter Storm Song Tournament already in progress. You can check it out if you want. Hell, you can vote if you care to. We've got songs like "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk."

I have 2/3 of my horror script done.. I just need the final act.

ACT-1 cruel behavior designed to induce Stockholm syndrome.
ACT-2 captive obeying the rules and doing her best to please him.
ACT-3 (she fails to please him) captor no longer wants to keep her alive

Into act 3 I will pour all of my hatred, malice, spite, and cruelty.

The Revenant's odds of winning best picture just shot up to +400 due to the producers guild awards picking The Big Short... I might just take a flier on that.

Kind of funny how yesterday we were talking about Tornadoes and Earthquakes and near Anchor Point Alaska, they got hit with a 7.1 earthquake 430 cst today.

They have been quaking all day too.... minor ones between 1.7 and 4.2

Wow, a 7.1? I don't remember hearing about any that bad before, but I looked it up and they're saying there were no injuries, so that's good. But four homes exploded, so that's bad.

We rarely get earthquakes here, and I'm usually the last one to hear when anything happens. I usually watch my TV shows on the DVR a few days after they air, and I listen to music on my mp3 player, so by the time I hear the news, it's old news.

The only time I listen to the news in the car is when I'm going into NYC or to New Jersey and I have to check the traffic reports. And sometimes I'll watch the news for the weather reports when I find out that there's a storm coming that we should keep an eye on for safety.

Other than that, I get my news reports from relatives, neighbors, and little blurbs on web sites and during commercial breaks on shows like "Judge Judy".

lol the only time they might mention it.. is on the morning radio show I listen to.. its more talk about rock and such... but if they mention it then I do ...

lol they are more goof ups than anything and would rather talk about rock music or something a bit more obscure than the news or weather... so I only catch bits of whats going on in the world.

Many years ago I used to listen to a morning show on the local country radio station, but we lost the station, so there's nothing on the radio worth listening to anymore. So now I have to listen to music on my mp3 player, which means no morning show, no news, no DJs, etc.

The hardest part is finding new songs. I have a couple of country music sites I frequent to keep up with what my favorite artists are doing.

I listen to a bit of post-rock. Mainly in moderation though, I tend to get bored listening to it too much. There's quite a bit I enjoy though.
