Went to Liverpool yesterday for the first time. I've been staying near Chester for the last couple of weeks whilst visiting my grandparents, so I thought I would pop to Liverpool to see one of my friends from Uni who lives there. Really nice city, got off near the docks and looked round there before heading in to town. Perfect for any Beatles fan, just so much stuff that is related to them, you're surrounded by them. My mate gave me a mini tour of the place and we had a few beers along the way, stopped in to The Cavern for a couple which was a really cool little place.
Cannibal Holocaust and Suspiria shirts, coming my way!

Hey everyone. Just thought I'd check in with a little hello. As was noticed by a number of people I've not been around for quite a long while. I've been continuing to experience a whole amount of discomfort with the physical problems I've been having. And with that getting worse it has caused my mood, never that good at the best of times, to nosedive. So I just didn't really feel like interacting and conversing with people. Then on top of that there's the thing that with being away for a while it then feels weird and awkward coming back after a spell away. The longer the spell the more awkward it becomes.
Anyway, for everyone that expressed concern thank you, I appreciate it. And sorry if I made you worry.
At the moment I still don't have a definitive answer as to what the problem is. At my most recent appointment with the gastro specialist he indicated that it appears to be very much like achalasia, or something very closely related. However as yet they don't have the evidence that would categorically confirm achalasia. As much as I've been desperate for a diagnosis, any diagnosis, this one wouldn't be great. Particularly for people who are fairly young.
There's no cure at this time, no drug you can take that just sorts it. There are some treatments available to lessen the effects but they're all pretty extreme and come with risks. One possibility is to have botox injected directly into the esophagus to paralyse the muslces to try and relax the contractions and allow food to pass through more easily. Another procedure is to have a balloon inserted to try and widen the esophagus by stretching and tearing the muscle fibres. Then there's surgery to make a number of incisions into the esophagus which would allow food and liquids to pass through easier. And then another, very extreme option is to have the esophagus removed entirely. The surgeon would then move the stomach up into the spot vacated by the esophagus.
I may also need to make changes to the way I eat. At the moment I have some occasional problems with swallowing solid food. Eventually that could become common enough that I'd have to switch to a liquid diet. And then for some people it gets to the stage where they can't even take a simple drink without experiencing bother. So they need to be fed with a gastric tube. How fun.
Next week I'm going for another endoscopy to see if anything was missed first time around or if anything has since formed. So we'll see how that goes.
Sorry to hear that mate sounds rough, hope you get some sort of good news soon. Glad you checked in
Damn JayDee that sounds brutal. I hope they can find a solution.

Thanks for checking in. I really hope things start looking up soon. I can't imagine having to live like that.
I wonder if its even possible to transplant an esophagus. None of those procedures sound confidence inducing. If they can discover a way to Idk control what your body accepts or rejects, thatd be huge.

Sorry for asking this but is opening in the throat kinda closes off. I knew a person who had too talk through his throat mic. I know its not the same thing.I figure anything with the throat would be hard surgery wise.

Yeah dude, I'm in the middle of The Curse of the Werewolf from Hammer - will probably finish it tonight - and it gives The Wolf Man from Universal a run for its money! Great flick. Reed still hasn't even shown up, and I've heard some people say he's like the greatest werwolf in cinematic history. Hard to think there could be a werewolf movie as good if not better than The Wolf Man, but if anyone can do it, it's Hammer!

Check out CL's character of the judge in 'Sleepy Hollow', for a brief moment in a shot, he stands at a podium giving justice to Ichabod Crane, and looming behind him are a pair of wings from a statue, a tip of the hat by Tim Burton to Lee's classic Dracula character? It be cool to think it is.
Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I appreciate it.
Got the endoscopy again tomorrow, fingers crossed it goes ok. The odds of anything going wrong are miniscule but as these procedures mount up the more those odds may catch up on me! I'm going to be sedated this time. I wasn't last time I got the endoscopy but I found it so extremely unpleasant that I want them to knock me loopy this time around. And then we'll just see if they find anything of note.
I forgot to say that there has been one benefit of sorts to all this. The first time I went to the gastro specialist I was weighed. Then when I went back a month or so ago they weighed me again and it turns out I've lost more than a stone in the intervening 14 - 15 months.

Well I made it through another procedure unharmed! Wasn't particularly pleasant though. Because I was sedated this time they put this ball gag like thing in your mouth, with a hole in it to put the tube down. That was rather uncomfortable. Although while I was lying there waiting for the sedation I was thinking to myself, "Sexy will probably find this detail entertaining!" When I came home I just konked out immediately and slept for the next few hours. When I woke up I felt pretty rough; tired, tender throat, headache etc.
This time out they did find some things of interest. My esophagus is very inflamed and there are signs of thickening of the esophageal wall. They've taken some biopsies to see if they show up anything. Should get results of that in 4-6 weeks.
Still not feeling too great but just thought I'd pop by

If your esophagus is inflamed then that means its infected. They could put you on the most powerful antibiotics, and eliminate that in 2 weeks. You would have to go in every day for the procedure, done thru iv drip. I would have to think this could be a positive discovery.

4-6 weeks? That feels like an eternity. :(
It never ceases to amaze me just how inefficient human medicine can be. When we perform a biopsy on an animal, we have results from the lab in 4-6 days.
Anyway, I'm glad the procedure went relatively well. Fingers crossed for some real answers.

Nah, what made you want to play basketball? I know you hate sports, or is that just watching them?
Actually, my buddies and I started playing just for sh*ts and gigs and ended up really getting into it. I get bored watching sports, which might change as I learn the fundamentals and whatnot, not sure (then again, maybe I'm just more of a player? Who knows). Also, as a kid I had a really rough time playing and was bullied a lot, I was awful. Both those factors led to me believing I didn't like sports at all. However, I'm a lot better now, if there's just two of us playing one on one I usually win. And obviously that means I enjoy playing more. Actually, a lot more. It's been a great form of exercise too, something I've needed. I hate normal exercise because it is often so routine and dull, but sports are a fun way to get a sweat going and burn some calories.
I'm excited for the class. It'll really just be organized, structured playing with some warm-ups beforehand, I think. Which is great.

Yeah I don't imagine any magazines featuring it as the latest diet fad. And it's really all down to just how little I've been eating compared to normal. I certainly haven't been doing any extra exercise. In fact my general level of exercise has been way down in that time as I used to walk Jock every single day, and now it's very hit and miss.

Well inflammation doesn't have to mean infection. And I think they'd have found that before now with all the numerous tests and procedures. I took it more to mean that all the heartburn, indigestion, acid reflux etc had taken its toll and left my esophagus irritated and raw.

Yes it could. This might be a redundant question.......have you had an extensive allergy test done? Allergic reactions can range from irritating to death itself, and symptoms and reactions random, beyond detection to see a pattern. Children are ridiculously misdiagnosed because the root was an allergic reaction, and adults some too.

Hubby and I had a similar incident this weekend in New Jersey. A guy walked over to us in the Walmart parking lot, and he explained that his car wasn't working, and his wallet was stolen, and he needed $20 to get home. He had a bunch of scars on his face, and little marks on his arms that looked like they could be needle marks, so it was a very uneasy feeling. We just said we had no money to spare, and jumped in the car and left quickly.

I once had a stall at a weekend fair right next to a 'clairvoyant' .... she asked me toward the end of day one what time the fair closed :D
we go every years to an alternate life view event thing. its loads of fun.
even though I dont personally believe in it a friend of mine does and she was told once that her husband was cheating with an old school friend. turned out to be correct

Guarantee you she already suspected this and the psychic got it out of her with cold reading.
she didnt. she hadnt had any contact with her friend for years and didnt think her husband was cheating.
i agree with them doing reading of your age and posture and are good at picking things from what you say.
I think if you were to get transcripts (haha) from that session it wouldn't be the exact way your friend remembers it. Most people who get into these things are looking for something to be confirmed, or just peace of mind with a lost loved one. Maybe not the friend thing but i imagine she believed her husband was cheating on her at the time.
No but i was there, she did it on speaker phone whilst me and her sister where there.
but we didnt think much of it at the time because she didnt believe it and just dismissed it. the convo was about something completely different when she started talking about it.
anyway, lucky coincident it prob was,but still funny.
She did what on the speaker phone? Filmed her session with her psychic? Why did she do that?

It lead to a lot of arguments because she was spending money on psychics when she should've been spending it on other things, me and my mum loaned her hundreds each, thousands maybe in my mums case. So yeah it wasn't just that she was "one of those people".

I get ya. But some people do snob others just for liking psychics or believing in God... whatever.
I think most psychics i've encountered including those on tv are vile parasites, just look at Sylvia Browne for instance:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPBU-nwBEjw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67nnkxSzSYg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxVOmOKuyaM
, etc. That is past the part of playing the Miss Cleo psychic, that's funny and will give you vague ***** like this day will be a good one for you. This is a woman telling people their kids are dead (when they weren't doesn't matter if they were anyway) so she can charge them her ridiculous prices for sessions. It's the idea that frauds have found a way to make a living, it is absurd and disgusting man sorry.
I like Anderson Cooper in the last one for once. He forcefully says "alleged" psychic and he seems to agree with Randi there mostly. I'm sure plenty have problems with Randi, particularly on his views on religion but i can't agree with him more when it comes to these charlatans
The thing i like most about the first video is that she starts telling the woman whose husband died in 9/11 that she is wrong or mistaken. You can't beat that level of smug.. yeah.

I've never seen Wong Kar Wai's Ashes of Times. From what I see there are two versions of the film. Wikipedia reads:
Due to the original prints being lost Wong re-edited and re-scored the film in 2008 for future theater, DVD and Blu-ray releases under the title Ashes of Time Redux. The film was reduced from 100 to 93 minutes. Both the original and Redux versions can still be found on Asian markets, while only the Redux version is available to western markets. Several criticisms of the Redux version have been noted, such as poor image quality and color mastering from the source material, cropping and removal of portions of the bottom image, poor English translations, and the re-scoring.Redux version is available in a fancy Blu-Ray format, while the 1994 version only on DVD, but generally the 1994 version is said to be best (judging from ratings of my friends), but I'd like to ask MoFos. Have any of you seen both versions?

Today I signed this thing, not really a contract but kinda, to do Ending the Silence for NAMI. Basically I will go around to various places, schools for example, and share my story about mental illness and my recovery and whatnot. I'm a bit nervous because I always hated public speaking, but I really want to do it, help people who need it. Since my diagnosis I've come to realize one of the keys to my recovery was the support and care of people around me, and so I want to return that kind of gesture somehow. And it's cool thinking I could help enlighten some teenager going through sh*t.
I'm excited to write my story most of all. I feel I'm good at writing passionately and from the heart, which could go a long way with this, rather than writing more technically or whatever.

Just had a heart-stopping moment. Some people brought a found dog in to be scanned for a microchip (it didn't have one). They put it in the back of their truck and as they pulled out of the parking spot, it jumped out of the truck. It was tethered to the vehicle and the leash was long enough that all four paws were on the ground, but they didn't notice her. I ran outside and chased after them through the parking lot but they didn't see/hear me or the dog and I couldn't stop them before they pulled out into the street. As I was walking back to the office, I saw them drive past and went over to the truck. The dog's feet were all torn up but thankfully didn't seem to be any worse off than that. I'm grateful that she didn't end up with more serious injuries. I was having visions of the poor dog being dragged to death a la Vacation or the collar coming off and it getting run over. I'm also very angry that people put dogs in truck beds like that, especially when it's not even their dog and they don't know how it'll act. it's so dangerous.
Also, I'm too fat and out of shape for this *****!
That's awful. I hate seeing dogs in truck beds period, but chaining them there seems like nothing but a bad idea. Glad it didn't end tragically.

T2 is a classic and Cliffhanger is a blast; great scenery and stuntwork, John Lithgow as the villain and some great deaths. I remember liking True Lies but it's been a long time since I actually saw it. The one thing I do fondly remember of it is Jamie Lee Curtis' striptease. :D

hi
Hey Cole, what's been happening
CosmicRunaway
10-30-16, 10:07 PM
So the RNC (police, not Republicans) showed up at our doorstep earlier this evening. Apparently some guy went to a party last night but never showed back up at home. I guess he still lives with his parents and they're worried, because they got the police to search for him. They traced his cellphone and apparently the location pings as being on the corner of this house.
The officers ask if I know this guy, or if I (or anyone else in the house) was at a party last night on some street I've literally never heard of. He shows me the app with the location of the phone on it to show that it does say the phone is here, but he mentions that it can be up to 200m off so they're just checking around. It was all very strange, especially since my two room mates actually did go to a Halloween party last night, just on a different street. I turned on the outside lights so the officers could have a better look around the house in case this missing person dropped their phone going around the corner or something, but they left not long after that and it didn't look like they found anything.
So I'm telling my brother about this on Facebook just now, and he casually says "I hope you didn't look like a murderer today". Gee, thanks.

I get the feeling that they're trying to be bad. It doesn't quite have that feeling I get when someone sincerely thinks they're good even though they're awful.

So did you kill him, Cosmic?
No comment. :shifty:
And more importantly were the police on horses?
Unfortunately it's the RCMP that have the horses, not the RNC. I've only seen the RCMP on their horses Downtown (where their provincial headquarters are). The RNC police the larger metro areas, while the RCMP just look pretty (since they have no jurisdiction in most if not all of this city).
The RCMP actually do police all the other areas of the province (which is most of it since there are only like 3 communities large enough to fall under RNC jurisdiction), but not on horseback. Which is super boring. They're not called the Royal Canadian Driving Police.

There's something going on around here, but I don't know what yet. It's almost 11:30 PM here, and there have been about a dozen police helicopters flying around for the last half hour. There are so many blue and red flashing lights in the sky right now that it looks like a UFO invasion.

Where are you at, GB?
Maybe the UFO's that invaded L.A. during World War II in 1942 are back?

Right on the Queens, NY and Long Island border, near where the Grand Central Parkway and the Cross Island Parkway meet.
I've been checking all the local news stations and web sites, but I can't seem to find any information about this. This is way too many helicopters for something like a traffic accident. It's so noisy right now that I can't even hear my TV.

I can't see the building, but I can see the tower tribute lights from here on Sept. 11th.
Zombies :yup:
Seriously though, lock the doors windows, and turn on the local news, they might be saying something

My doors are always locked, and I'm on the second floor, (third floor with the garage below), so there's no easy access to the windows.
I've been watching the local news, but there's no information about what's going on. The last time we had anything like this around here was many years ago when three killers escaped from the Nassau County Jail.

Hopefully we won't need any guns, but we're ready if necessary.
It got quiet for a few minutes, so I thought it was over, but now they're back again. They must be looking for someone. I just don't understand why there's nothing on the news about this.

Hopefully the four hours of radio silence doesn't mean anything untoward
Stick Pontypool in the dvd player and take your mind off it for a while Gbg :)
Hope it ends up being all a fuss about nowt.
If we had 3 escaped killers the Guards over here would probably just send a man door-to-door asking if anyone had seen them :D

I still can't find anything on the news about what happened here last night, but the word on the street is that there was a double murder in Brooklyn last night, and the police were searching for the killer in this area.
