. I actually liked the first season of GoT, but season two was a struggle and I abandoned it after that.

Yknow, I have to confess the first season, more specifically the first 3 episodes of the first season, I had no idea who was who or what was going on. I rewatched those first 3 episodes a few times just to get a grasp on all the characters and settings. For a non book reader it isnt an easy series to get into, but dayum worth it when you do. :yup:

I'm kinda like HK there except i kept going for a lot longer. I loved Season 1 then i kept losing interest more and more until i stopped watching after the first episode of Season 4, which was actually an Arya episode so nobody tell Zotis :D. I think when it is done i'll probably watch the rest because i don't think it is bad at all i just struggled to stay interested.

I'm still hanging in there with GoT, but definitely not loving it anymore. I'll probably stick with it as long as Tyrion's alive, but not very enthusiastically. I'm probably among the few that just rolled their eyes at Hodor's big scene last week.

Yeah theres tons of characters I like in this show, and some that I didnt like have won me over like Sansa. Not all the storylines going on are gripping, but enough are. Also they are actually explaining and closing out storylines, unlike say LOST which never did because they made it up as they went along those last 3 seasons..

some of the dialogue is absolutely horrid, too much filler, and too much sex and foul language thats OBVIOUS shockvalue and doesnt really fit in. i dont care for most the characters either, except for rob. and wolfs.who are almost all gone now
although i did find sansas storyline pretty interesting.
anywho. cercei ftw>

Anyway, I HATE the Stark kids. All of them. I mean Jon's okay, but I don't count him as a Stark. I want Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon to just die or go TF away for good. They do nothing but irritate me.

Besides Tyrion, at this point the only characters I like are Jorah and Ramses but we don't see enough of them. I hated Jaime for awhile, then liked him for awhile, and now I can't stand him again.

The wildling crush is funny, but in the back of my mind I always thought her and Pod would unintentionally get drunk and do the deed sometime. Pod being the unknown "greatest lay in Westeros" would have overwhelmed poor Bries inexperienced sensuality, and they would have made the oddest couple ever.

I didn't think much of any of the characters in GoT. I think that's why I liked season 1 so much more than the second. It's more political intrigue than anything else. The Borgias is much better, IMO.

I know I've said it a few times over the years, but I made it to episode 9 of Lost before realising that they had no clue what they were doing. :D

Yeah the movie was an indulgence in sex and torturous random violence, and Ramsay is similar. Actually Malcolm McDowell killed his career with that and gave a masterful performance at the same time. The actor playing Ramsay may have difficulty after GoT getting other roles. Hes got a distinctive look and has made quite the impression.

Oh Rush's de Sade was definitely funnier and more interesting, but then again the de Sade of Quills isn't even the most sadistic character in that movie.

That said, one of my favorite scenes in GoT was when Ramsay was eating a sausage after doing you-know-what to Theon. Cracked me up.

I actually thought most of the acting was atrocious. Graphic sex and torturous violence is pretty much necessary in any movie about Caligula. But some of it was still out of place. Like the nude workers in the street. WTF. And a lot of the orgy scenes didn't need to be that graphic, though I'm not exactly complaining about it.

I loved LOST. Those first 3 seasons were a true pleasure, but then they started "doing stuff". At first I was intrigued, and then halfway thru season 5 I realized they had no idea what the answers were, but just making new questions to keep the buzz on the show high. It was all sizzle and no steak. The actor that played Echo asked to be written off because he knew they were just "doing stuff". The finale proved it by enlightening us on nothing. Anyway those first 3 seasons were great, but I felt cheated afterward. The dumbassed creators that ruined LOST made that gawdawful Under The Dome. Oh, now that show was pure ass. :yup:

Whether that is true or not what you are doing is absurd. It is the equivalent of me reading a critics negative review of a popular movie and using that as my argument against it even though i only watched the first five minutes.

How could you tell it had no cohesive, thought out story from one episode? You really couldn't and you know you couldn't, you read everyone else say that and came to a decision that must be how it is..

That is all fine if it is coming from someone who has actually watched more than one episode. If you read my entry for it in my top tv shows, i said as much. Still Foster is being ridiculous and doesn't have a valid opinion on the show at all since he hasn't seen 99.9% of it.

Sometimes I don't always finish a movie and I'll rate it.
It happens, not often but it happens.

Hunger games is one example. I saw enough to know.
I gave lost a shot. I saw more than one episode. The pilot was great, I know i saw the second and some parts of other episodes but it was enough to make up my mind.

Partly informed by what others are saying yeah but I have also seen it for myself and I keep my own council. I'm not a parrot. If everyone kept saying how satisfying the finale was that would inform me a different way, I'm not an ostrich either I don't bury my head in the sand.

Story hasn't changed. That I saw the first two episodes.
I've seen parts of others but IDK why that is hard to accept - you've never heard of channel surfing?

Lets see.. there was some like polar bear or something.. and the lottery dude found a manhole cover. IDK I didn't see a lot but it was obvious to me what the show was.

I meant just the final season for Netflix only. I thought I remembered FX not picking it up for some reason. I remember the ponzi scheme season. That's the last one I watched. Damages and Dexter I haven't seen the last two seasons of, and keep meaning to. Too much TV for this movie guy.

Wow, that went to eight. I may have more than 2. Was Stiles in 5?

Season 5 of Damages was pretty good. It was basically a wikileaks season. 4 was easily the worst though, it was to do with a private military firm thing in Afghanistan. It had potential but just wasn't executed right, it did have Dylan Baker though and i love him in anything.

I love the character building of the beginning of most dramatic shows. The first two seasons of Dexter were my favorite as well. The only thing about Dexter is outside of Hall the acting was really bad in places. Debra in particular. That actress is horrible.

Yeah.

So I have 3 seasons of Dexter.

Jennifer Carpenter got better as it went on IMO, she was the only half decent thing about the last season. I think the best acting came from the guests usually like John Lithgow in Season 4 and Edward James Olmos in Season 6. Julia Stiles was terrible though.

So I have 3 seasons of Dexter.

Alot of people think Season 6 is the worst, i'd say it is the second worst but it is still watchable. Both Olmos and Mos Def are really good, Mos Defs storyline with Dexter is very underrated IMO it has to do with faith you should watch it for your thread ;). Season 8 is just abysmal, comes close to ruining the whole show.

I went to the driving range for the first time in my life this past week.

I was much worse than I expected to be.. although I have no experience I'm extremely good at any task involving eye hand coordination. I spent years practicing and refining my talent through national competition.

But with golf, lots of whiffs.. not much aim to where i hit the ball. Yesterday I went back to try it a second time and I kicked all kinds of ass.

I was able to hit the ball to any flag that I wanted, the last one went around 250 yards right to the flag I was aiming at.
I think I'm ready to try an actual golf course now.. there is a small par 3 course at the same place that had the driving range. Not bad at all!!! it took me 6 months of darts before I could consistently hit the bullseye.

I also started watching Sense8 this weekend on netflix. Pretty cool series!!
Too bad I don't have the ultra HD subscription to watch it in 4k

Swan, make sure you watch the unedited version of The Piano Teacher because there's an R-rated version too. I found The White Ribbon gorgeous-looking but overlong and obvious. If you want to watch something pitch black, try Haneke's The Seventh Continent, which is as oppressive as they come. It's my vote for Haneke's worst, which means it's the most perfect depiction of his vision.

She says what she originally found the most inhuman and artificial became the most human and organic thing to her, and I love that sentiment for reasons anyone on here who knows me will understand - because it fights the boring, aged stigma that dance and electronic music is somehow inhuman. Which is an inherently BS, condescending idea.

Yes, I'm English. It'll be interesting to see if this team can do anything. As usual, I'll be happy with the quarter-finals, but with Roy picking two players who've barely played (and are essentially injured in Henderson and Whiltshire) and Sturridge, who'll do well to be in the competition for as long as England are, I can't say I'm optimistic.

Yes, the Portugal game was dull, dull, dull. I think this is going to be a fairly disappointing tournament unless he bites the bullet and benches Rooney from the start. How many Orson directed films have you Citizen and Gatsby seen? Just curious i've seen Citizen Kane, Othello and The Trial.

I seen you had watched Othello, kudos for that. I need to see that one too.
So far I've seen these directed by Orson films (and I really need to see more of his stuff)

1973 F for Fake
1958 Touch of Evil
1947 The Lady from Shanghai
1946 The Stranger
1942 The Magnificent Ambersons
1941 Citizen Kane

So basically I've seen the well known ones, now I need to dig deeper and see some of his other stuff.

Do you like Othello or Shakespeare even? If not then you won't like Welles version as you'd expect, i mean even though he has made it his own by shortening and altering it considerably he really doesn't attempt to make it accessible to people not familiar with Shakespeare at all, which is something i like personally; it is the same as people getting annoyed at every reboot of Spiderman or whatever having his origin story. If you do like Shakespeare then please watch it there is a decent chance it will end up on my list but it is already getting pretty long so i really don't know if it is still in the top 25 right now.

Planning on watching Touch of Evil too.

1946 The Stranger

I've never heard of this. I googled this and checked out its wiki page to see what it was about and saw a few pretty great shots. Will check that out soon.

Touch of Evil is my favorite from the well-known Welles batch. I haven't seen Welles' adaptations of Shakespeare.

Planning on watching Touch of Evil too. I'm not real familiar with Shakespeare's works. I haven't read any of it. I've seen some movies based on them and liked them for the most part, but they are hard for me to understand as to what is going on. I think it's the Shakespearean language (which is correct to use) but hard for me to know what is being said at times, so I get lost, so to speak.

The Stranger is a decent film noir with some Orson flair. I think you might like it.

I think you should watch Battle Royale.

Downfall is just Hitler yelling and screaming as a sympathetic blonde secretary watches shocked but insists that he's actually a nice guy overall... Na, but Downfall is a decent movie, I just think it's a bit over rated.

I heard about that Battle Royale, but never saw it cause I heard it was about a bunch of little kids killing each other. The movie must have at least good delivery to sell that. Is it like Hunger Games?

It's kind of like Hunger Games. When Hunger Games came out, a lot of people said it was a rip off of Battle Royale. The director said he's never seen Battle Royale, but I don't know about the author of the Hunger Games books.

But I think after the first Hunger Games movie the resemblances became much fewer.

Battle Royale has a bit of style over realism in terms of it's violence, but it's just an interesting movie because it is so unique. I mean, even though Hunger Games has been compared to it, that's just because it's such a massively untouched concept that nothing else even comes close. Akira Kurasawa actually said if there was one movie that he hadn't made that he wished he made it was Battle Royale (I'm paraphrasing off dated memory, so don't quote me on that exactly, but he said something along those lines). Battle Royale doesn't have Kurasawa's level of technical proficiency though. It's more of a fun movie.

Kurosawa died in 1998, and the novel on which Battle Royale was based was published in 1999. The movie was released in December 2000.

Tarantino said that, not Kurosawa.

Jesus, I just had a conversation with somebody and I was literally jerking off on my own witticism and in awe of my intellectual innuendos, witty remarks and faultless rhetorics, while in reality these were just flat, unsophisticated jokes and bland semantics masturbation. I'm afraid I'm turning into a French intellectual.
