This court case is absolutely bizarre! And BTW he is 100% guilty, do not doubt it.
Here is a summary of the bizarreness

-----

Before potential jurors were brought in, Poindexter asked Judge Richard E. Jordan that he be allowed to seek new representation, claiming that he was missing “mountains of evidence” that would help his defense. Poindexter also asserted that some evidence, including text messages and an audio recording of a conversation had been tampered with by police, and that his lawyers were not sufficiently concerned.

Jordan strongly disagreed, telling Poindexter he was receiving a defense of the “highest caliber” and that the opening statement given by Covington & Burling’s Alexander Berengaut was one of the best he’d ever seen in a criminal case.

“You understand,” the judge told Poindexter, “that as Abraham Lincoln said, ‘A person who represents himself has a fool for a client.’ Have you ever heard that phrase? There is a reason for that.”

“I’ve heard that,” Poindexter said.

Jordan warned Poindexter to behave himself in court, and not to roll his eyes, shake his head, or speak to himself in front of the jury. If he did, he might find himself excluded from the courtroom at his own trial, Jordan said, explaining that he would not have the trial become “a zoo.”"

Being in retail so long makes me feel this way more often than not. I put up with a lot because of it. Crappy customer service still exists though. Restaurants screw up my food all the time, so I'm pretty much used to it. I understand that I'll have more than my fair share of problems because I'm a picky eater, but I try to avoid them by being very careful when I order, and making the server read the order back to me to make sure that they got it right.

Every customer should be treated with respect regardless of how bad the manager's day has been. There's no excuse for treating a customer the way we were treated.

A manager doesn't have to actually care about the customer's problem. They only have to appear that they care. Perception is 90% of reality.

Yes. I've had enough problems to know that mistakes happen. It's not about the mistake. It's about the way it was handled.

I've been in restaurants where they've actually had the person who caused the problem come to the table and apologize. This manager was rude and obnoxious, and she made it very clear that she didn't care that something went wrong. She shouldn't be in a business that deals with other people.

I wonder why that is, though. I mean, you always seem to be finding yourself in trouble. Or, at least, finding people who are trouble. I feel like you could make a thread about all of these troubling stories. Even you and I had confrontations in those song tournament threads -- "YOU'RE GOING TOO FAST!!!!! I haven't had a chance to listen!!!!!!!!" That's why I decided that you have to run them now because I can't deal with running them and you're a participant.

It's like you thrive on having problems. Some people are like that.

I think part of it is because my expectations are too high, and I expect people to do what they're supposed to do, and I don't just accept something if it's wrong.

I know a lot of people who will just eat the food without complaining if their order comes out wrong, but I won't do that. If I order something a specific way, I expect it to come out the way I ordered it.

And yes, I could write a book about some of the problems I've had in stores and restaurants.

Just a few examples:
Pizza Hut, when we ordered the new p-zones, and after waiting more than 30 minutes for our food, the server came over and told us they didn't have any more, and the table that came in after us got the last ones. The manager told us "I can make it for you, but it will make you sick".

McDonalds, when the food came out hard as a rock, and we asked them to replace it, and the replacement was just as bad as the first one. The manager said "Oh, you wanted the fresh one."

Local store in the mall, when the cashier gave us our change and she said "I'm shorting you 4 cents. I don't have any pennies., instead of just asking us for a penny so she could give us a nickel back. (We later found out that she was stealing money from the store, and those pennies were adding up to quite a bit of money at the end of the day.)

No, they don't care about problems because they suck at customer service. I don't brag on myself a lot but I am pretty damn good at customer service. Tell them no! Say you weren't planning on dessert / don't care for dessert at all. Force them to have to give you that dinner for free. Initially I would have been okay with the free dessert, or even nothing free if the wait wasn't too long, but not after being told I was getting a free dinner. I would have called the manager over and asked why the free dinner was taken away. They shouldn't have offered it if they weren't going to honor it. If the waiter made his own decision, he should have said he would ask the manager about what he could do. He shouldn't have offered something that he wasn't authorized to give you.

So when the waiter told us how about 1 free desert instead, everybody was 'like, hmm, well, hmm, OK.'

Then I thought about it and it felt wrong to be promised something then have it changed to just a free desert.

I was polite, because Citizen is always polite, I said 'wait a minute you promised a free dinner, you can't go back on that.' So my moms dinner was free.

Now how about tipping?, what would you do there? I will say the whole situation made every one feel uncomfortable.

Tipping is a whole different issue because sometimes the problem isn't the server's fault, and it's not fair to take it out on the server for a problem that was caused by the cook or the manager.

Yeah, I'm a good tipper especially knowing what servers go through. This is our tipping system. 20 to 25 % for good service. We will add an extra ten if the server was exceptional in any way, or if we were dining with people I think were pain in the butts. Tim knows my "slip them an extra ten" look. 15% to 20% if the service was ok but the server had bad server habits 10% for bad service and I'll let the manager know why. Has only happened twice and I eat out a lot!

Actually someone only tipping 7% still would result in the server losing money because they lost a tipping table by the non-tipping person sitting there. Might I suggest take-out, non-tippers? ;)

I've heard that before, and I have a story about that scenario too.

After having a problem with a rare burger coming out well done twice, we called over the manager. The manager told us that he would fix the burger again.

I told him to just take it off the bill. I told him that I don't like to send food back twice because I don't trust the chef not to spit in my food. (Yes, I really said that to him.) He guaranteed me that nothing would happen to my food. I trusted him because we had been there many times before, and we rarely had problems there.

A few minutes later, the waitress came to the table and she told me, "I don't know what you said to him, but the head chef is making your food, and the manager is standing there watching him.".

I won't name the films so I don't spoil anything, but I notice so much more humanity "back in the day" - for example, when I mentioned I have hitchhiked, I'm asked if I'm crazy. The movie I saw recently had this man, a stranger, being given a place to stay for free. Nothing was asked from him, there was basic empathy. Nowadays it's "loitering" or "What are you doing?" "Where are you going?" I see society so scared that it doesn't take any chances, and doesn't have much of a chance to do anything if nothing is allowed or acceptable. Do people consciously dream as much? Whether it's possible or not?

One month into the year and so far I've succeeded in watching a movie a day. I've watched 31 films, and since I won't watch one tomorrow that will be an average of one a day in January. Not bad for working 50+ Hours a week too.

Finally got to watch the Parenthood series finale this morning. If you don't like melodrama this show was certainly not for you. For me with the exception of probably a season and a half no one did melodrama better than Parenthood. It moistened my eyes nearly every week and flippin' destroyed me with its finale.

Saturdays are almost never fun days for me. I gotta go to work.

And coming up soon my hours are going to be increasing for a bit because one of our employees gave notice yesterday. It's gonna suck putting in even more hours, but the trade off is more money and - more importantly - we'll be rid of a terrible employee that the boss should've fired months ago.

Yes, and I don't know why because the weather was fine at Christmas time. I'll have fun at the party, but she wants me to be presentable so I have to dress nice and shave and cut my toenails and things like that, and I do all that in the garage and it's pretty cold today.

Hitchhiking has always been dangerous. For both hitchee and hitcher. I've hitchhiked and jumped trains. Back when I was young, dumb and thought I was invincible.

I wouldn't give a hitchhiker a ride or let someone I didn't know stay at my house under any conditions, but I do small things here and there to try to make life a little easier for another person and people do that for me.

There is still humanity in the world if you are open to seeing it. There is no point in being an idealist and wishing the world a certain way. Those wanting more humanity in the world only need be more humane.

I don't know much about birds, but some birds are beautiful. There's a local pet store called Parrots of the World (http://parrotsoftheworld.com/), and they sell a lot of exotic birds and other animals. I like to go in there a lot and just look at all the unusual birds and other animals they have.

They even have a little owl as a security guard, and a bat.

I love birds, mainly birds of prey, which include falcons, hawks, kestrels and owls..

The welsh word for "Owl" is Blodeuwedd... and there is Welsh myth about the bird that is my favorite.

When I was a kid, my father bought me a parakeet. We went to the pet store to buy a hamster, but I fell in love with the parakeet because it was blue, (my favorite color), and I had never seen a blue animal before.

That was a big mistake because the first time he used his beak to try to climb on my finger, I thought he was trying to bite me so I was afraid of him. He was just a little tiny bird, but I was a little kid, and I didn't know any better. I played with him, but I had a special glove with padding inside that I wore when I held him.

After that, I learned to stick with cute, furry little animals like hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs.

About 10 years ago, I worked in an office that had three birds, a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo, an African Grey Parrot, and a Blue and Yellow Macaw. The birds were very friendly, and a lot of fun to watch, but I found out that I still have a little bit of that fear in me from when I was a kid.
