I don't think so. I've found this place to be very welcoming. It's like one big dysfunctional family. People may occasionally bicker back and forth, but it's more like siblings arguing. On the RT forums, everyone seems to have contempt for another. It's a more hostile place. For instance, they would never be down for your upcoming prom. They'd just mock you for it.
Even the little lover's quarrel that you and I had over Mannequin was never mean-spirited, at least not on my end. I kind of enjoyed it actually. I need to find another movie that you hold near and dear to your heart so I can drag it through the muck. :p
I saw some vicious mean things there. Elitist is about the best thing I could say about that place.
And your right, something like a prom would never fly there, or Survivor, or the Hall of Fame. .
This place is a hippy love fest comparatively.

This place has always had a twist of fun to it, even before I arrived on the scene, but I can't help but think that this place could turn into something like Nazi Germany -- ironically, if I, Sexy Hitler, didn't happen to be here, as well as some of you other people. But mostly me because I wouldn't stand for it, while the rest of you would simply fall in line and obey orders.
It has gradually seemed worse here to me, I must say. It doesn't really feel as chill as it used to. That's why we need proms and Survivors and Chill Clubs and Pretend You're Smoking Smoking Lounges to counteract the militia that wants to take over.

I really don't know yet, to be honest.
When I came out of high school I had this ambition to start my own company and to become very successful, rich and stuff like that (you know, the typical, naive and optimistic spirit of an arrogant and complacent boy who just graduated from high school and who thinks he can take the world). That's why I started studying economics (together with a couple of friends of mine).
After about a year, though, I started getting kind of dissatisfied with my studies and my future prospects and I kind of left the idea of becoming "a successful businessman" behind. I'm more a 'relaxed' kind of person. I don't see myself working day in, day out just to make a lot of money. That wouldn't work for me. I don't believe I'm destined to become some kind of workaholic with the sole purpose to gain a lot of wealth. I don't think the key to happiness lies there.
Then I started discovering a new passion of mine, which is of course 'cinema' and I thought that maybe I could do something related with the film business. I don't know exactly what, of course, but as I'm going to choose 'Marketing' as my specialization, I might do something in that direction and combine it with my passion for films in one way or another.
And perhaps, if I'm very lucky, I get into contact with the right people and I can show them some of my own ideas for film stories.
But that's the ideal scenario, of course. If I don't find a job related with my passion, I'll probably settle with something else for a while, just for the sake of security, and earn a little money first. I can still build on my dreams after work!

sorry, I guess Im just used to doing this. I had a friend who I watched films with and we discussed the film thru gmail messanger. I, using English subs and he, using Spanish subs.
Grrrr.. my second choice movie is in FRENCH!!! I was going to suggest "Alain Resnais' 'Night and Fog'", which is a WWII concentration camp documentary. Even "A Film Unfinished" is not only in English but other languages as well. Its a documentary on a Nazi Propaganda film that was found. "Der Ewige Jude" is out of the question.. its all in German. :(

Ah, that makes sense. My mind kind of went the same route as Captain Spaulding's. :)
Is this just like a general rumblings thread? Just about to get on a train home from uni, takes 2 hours 20 mins, bought the latest S&S magazine to keep me occupied.
I really wanted to subscribe to Sight & Sound but it's so damn expensive since I'm in America. I'm currently subscribed to Film Comment, though, which is great.

It's been a long long time since I've been out on a first date and hardly ever with someone I barely know. This person is waaaayyyy outside my comfort zone. He seems so normal and I am not used to that, He is also a cop which makes me very nervous, but I don't know why. Also we are going to dinner and that's terrifying. This is going to be horrible.

Keep your head up. I actually met my wife on a blind date for dinner. I was nervous and almost backed out of it. Just go with the flow and you will be fine.
Be as open to your date as you are to some of the weird movies you like. :) Nobody is as "normal" as they seem - they just don't want you to know right away.

Really? That's cool. At least it isn't blind because then I don't think I would go through with it. That just takes more bravery than I have.

Just try to act as comfortable as possible and ask questions if you don't want to talk too much about yourself on the first date. Sometimes it's better to appear a little bit more dominant than you actually are to hide your insecurity (don't overdo it of course or you will become a whole different person). You'll see that it's a pretty comfortable position to be in and in the meantime you'll get to know more about him! ;)
I'm sure you'll do fine, you're an interesting person and they guy will definitely notice that!
