Anyone here ever watched any of the Up Series? I stumbled upon seven up about a week ago and have found them really addictive. Ive already watched up to 35 up, at the end of each one I just really want to know what is happening with them seven years from now, especially Neil, Tony and Bruce.

For anyone who hasnt watched or heard of them. It is basically a british documentary that started in 1963, they filmed 15 seven year olds from most types of background (rich, poor, etc) asked them various questions then hey return every seven years to see their progress. Some have dropped out at certain points but most have stuck with it, the most recent was 56 up in 2012.

Aye, I've seen all of them. I'm exactly the same age as those kids and I've watched the series as it unfolded every seven years so got a weird comparison to my own life and times. When I look back on the first programme Neil must've been in a primary school pretty close to mine so I feel for that guy, going from the little bright eyed child with the world at his feet through some pretty rough times. It's an amazing series of documentaries.

I actually read Jacks University Challenge thread the day after I watched seven up and got reminded you are from Liverpool. I really don't want spoilers, but Neil from 21 up to 35 up is pretty devestating. I'm going to watch 42 up tomorrow and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it says Neil is the first to die :(.

Apted shot It perfectly like an ahole, from the slight positive of him directing a pantomime like he was talking about in 28 until he wasn't invited back to direct. Also the question about him losing his sanity, he almost instantly blurted out something like "I don't think, I know I am" then he tried to take it back in a really depressing way :(.

I had a loaded week... I saw Neil Young (again) a week ago. Then I turned 33 on Friday, went over a friends'.. Then I saw the Eagles (first time!).. Saw Steely Dan for the 4th time a few days ago, but had to miss Graham Nash yesterday in Ann Arbor. Great set list, I saw him with CSN, but I had a sore throat with so much loudness at the concerts, talking on the phone on the birthday... It's too bad that so many people chatter DURING the song. Not being able to see the performers because people are dancing is one thing, but I want to hear THEM, not drunk idiots around me. I'd move somewhere else on the lawn, and it was the same. And the phones! People looking at the phone instead of the performer.

Master of Puppets and The Number of the Beast (and Iron Maiden in general) made me appreciate heavy metal forever.

My dad made me listen to it when I was eight and therefore the genre also has a very nostalgic value for me. I'd actually say I know quite a lot about metal music from the '70s, '80s and '90s because of my dad. I'm not as up to date when it comes to today's groups, though.

I hate to say it, as I'm equally disappointed in myself as you probably are, but I could never really get into the Maiden. I'm not sure why. I respect them and what they did for metal, and they're incredibly talented, but... I just don't feel it when I listen to them.

You should watch Young Mr Lincoln, Raul ;)

Spent today setting up speakers in my brother's room. He bought a whole new system to go with his fairly new TV, and also bought a load of Blu-rays for us to watch. Put on The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me to "test it out" and ended up watching an hour of each film :p

My sister called me today on my way home from work. My Uncle Carl passed away yesterday afternoon. He was my father's oldest brother and the oldest of the 12 children my grandparents had that was alive. He was third born out of those twelve. It seems that most everyone passes away in August. My father passed away August 8th, 6 years ago and my grandmother (their mother) passed away in August 37 years ago when I was 15 years old. I think there are only 4 left out of the 12.

MovieGal, I'm sorry to hear about your Uncle. Were you close with him?

Thanks everyone...

I was close when I was younger. We were a very close net family. I had second cousins who were my age to play with when I was younger. Growing up, my Uncle Carl and Aunt Alene lived about 1 mile from us. Every year, multiple times a year, we had family gatherings in the small Missouri town where they are all laid to rest, where my father is from. We went camping every summer holiday and had a lot of fun times. Imagine about 10 drunk men in their 30s and 40s with M-80s on the 4th of July. Someone always got a lit one under their lawn chair. We had fish frys and everything. Even with the outer family, Julian and Shaw sides, we were still close (both are my grandparents family name).

With my father being gone almost 6 years.. it still hurts... I miss him so much.. I was with him the last week he was alive every day... except for the day he passed. I was on vacation from work and he as in hospice care. After being there 6 full days, my sister comes to stay with him so I could go home and sleep in my own bed.. and he passes that night.

I know how you feel. I had a similar relationship with my Uncle who passed away a few months ago. We were very close when I was younger, but we didn't see each other much in recent years. We used to go to New Jersey to visit them a lot, and I even stayed over for weekends sometimes because my cousins were close to my age, but as everyone got older, we all got busy with our lives, and drifted apart. :(

On a lighter note, I hadn't seen my cousins in years either, so it was nice reconnecting with them at the funeral, but I just wish it had been under better circumstances.

Thanks, but it's not the guy who I thought it might be.

I knew a young artist about 10 - 15 years ago who made sculptures like that, but most of them were smaller. He was doing local conventions at the time, and he was trying to expand his business, and the last I heard about him was that he moved out of the area.

He was very talented, and I always thought that he would do well someday, but it's been so long that I can't remember his name, but I'm sure that I'd recognize it if I heard it again. I have some of his early stuff in my collection somewhere.

I've worked at those conventions for years. I've seen a lot of strange costumes, and bunny ears just won't do it unless you have something other than a bunny costume to go with it.

My gran (or nana as I called her) died today. Wasn't a huge surprise as she's been struggling with dementia for the last few years and of late it really did seem like she was pretty much done. Still a shame though. She was a lovely person and with my social anxiety she was one of the few people I was really comfortable talking with. At least she wasn't ill in hospital or anything, she passed peacefully at her home

She was also a really strong woman. During World War II she worked in the hospital as well as at the factory producing gas masks. Then later on, even whilst taking care of 4 kids, she got part-time work as a cleaner to earn enough money to move herself and the kids (including my mum) out of their home and away from her abusive husband; not exactly the easiest of things to do in 50s/60s Glasgow. She was damn brave about it too because she couldn't really afford much so all she was able to do was move to another flat on the exact same street. So she knew she would see him and this was a violent guy but she did it. And for that I have great admiration.

Rest in Peace Nana.

Thanks for the kind wishes and thoughts everyone. I forgot to mention by the way that she was 92 years old so she did at least have a pretty good innings.

May your nana rest in piece, JayDee, she has had a long and admirable life and I'm sure even at 92 years old she wasn't done giving out to the world. Really does sound like a great woman. I'll send my thoughts to you and your family! RIP

I got messaged today by a reporter about that gay rapist.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/montgomery-county-man-sentenced-to-150-years-in-serial-sex-assaults/2015/04/15/f8545046-e2e9-11e4-81ea-0649268f729e_story.html

It's strange they're doing another article on him, he hasn't been in the news since he was sentenced in april.
I can tell them how he got away with it for so long, maybe that will do some good. I know I can't tell the whole story though without hurting my friends.
Beer pong meetups? That's an actual thing, seriously?

Meetups? You mean tournaments?
Yes I have played in beer pong tournaments for $50,000 and $100,000 and I've been on national TV for it.

JayDee, I was sorry to read about your Nana. It's a very special relationship between a Nan and a grandchild. She'll have been a big influence on your life that you'll remember all your life. That generation was tough, and it sounds like she had it tougher than a lot of people, but I bet you had some great times with her and like you say she had a long ol' life .
RIP JD's Nana

I think trying to be a fat cop was a mistake. His skinny arms do not go with that gut. I hope that's fake fat. It looks kinda odd. You would have been hotter as a fit cop with that mustache.

You look better as a woman. Men make better looking women than actual women sometimes, I think.

Oh yeah I forgot about the docs. Might have to put my Hulu subscription to good use for that one. Not gonna lie, gonna have to buckle down and see a lot of documentaries if that is next.

Hope it's docs. I need an excuse to finally get myself to watch docs, plus the later the 50s list happens, the better it will be.

I prefer my cords being a tangled mess. I find detangling them to be so much fun.
