It's an extremely explicit book, from how it appears. More X-rated than the movie.

Although if in the next few days you see something on the news about a man flu epidemic breaking out in Glasgow you'll know who patient zero is! :p

I hated hearing that you had to take a polygraph test. I've heard those things are actually pseudo-scientific and can't actually tell if you're telling the truth or not. Which makes sense, I think. That thing is like palm reading almost.

As long as you are honest with the interviewer, the polygraph is a piece of cake. Now that being said there is a reason polygraphs are not admissible in court. Hell Ted Bundy passed polygraphs about his crimes and he killed lots of people.

It is more of a job screening tool in this case. And the actual time I spend hooked up to the polygraph is limited. A good hour and a half is discussing the info I volunteered, and the polygraph asks am I hiding anything else.

Well I was able to make it to the ballet tonight. Feel a bit worse for wear now but I'd say it was worth it

That sounds horrendous...but enjoy.:D

Well it wasn't...and I did.

I wouldn't quite say I loved it and it certainly won't be turning me into a ballet fan but I did enjoy it. The sets and staging were great, as were the costumes. Plus it had the original film score which is a beautiful, haunting piece of work. The dancing itself was a little hit and miss for me. Some of it (like the ice dance) was lovely but other bits were just too dancy for me and a bit of overkill.

Oh and at the end it snows on stage and then it snows on the audience. And I was in prime position for the snow so I ended up near drowning in the foamy snow stuff they were firing over the crowd. My black coat quickly became a zebra-striped coat and then a full-on white coat. My hair looked like it had the most extreme case of dandruff ever. And with my bushy beard at the moment catching some as well I was rocking a bit of a Santa Claus look

I actually do not go to the theater (meaning plays). It is a very rare occasion for me. But I might try to see The Book of Mormon as it is coming to Jacksonville in February.

I go every so often but not as much as I'd like; can be a pricey night out. What have I seen over the years - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Beauty and the Beast, a Chinese State circus/Cirque du Soleil show, Gotta Sing Gotta Dance, Slava's Snow Show and a couple of other shows I'm sure that I can't think of. Last thing I saw (before the ballet obviously) was a production of Blood Brothers with Marti Pellow and one of Nolan sisters (neither name will mean anything to anyone outside the UK I'm guessing). That was very good. I love the big song from that show - "Tell Me It's Not True"

As a huge fan of Trey Parker and Matt Stone I'd also love to see Book of Mormon sometime. Oh and I'd love to see The Lion King on stage someday

Anyway I think I'll settle down pretty shortly. Rather tired.

I wonder if we even saw the same thing, or if they just changed it (since it's been years since I saw it, anyway). Or if I just can't remember ***** anymore.

Just some advice from someone who is new to an art form and trying so very hard to improve. :D Don't be insecure about your abilities. They are what they are and with hard work they will get better no matter what. My insecurities really impeded my progress because I was always comparing myself to others and coming up short.

I really get what your saying about people close to you evaluating your art. They are just not the best ones to do so. Of course, they will say they like it. People who like you want to be nice to you. :D I got so sick of hearing "that looks good" about each and every drawing I drew. Especially, when I first started. I started with a very low skill set. I knew my drawings weren't any good. I wanted to hear what was wrong with it so I could improve. That's rough to put on my friends though because they want to be supportive. Or they don't want me to be hurt and angry with them. Either way, that's a nice friend but a horrible critic.

It's so fun and exciting and maddening and frustrating learning to create something. I'm glad you started getting into this so much. It's kinda weird, or maybe not, but I've become way more confident since I've started to learn to draw. I don't even care that I'm not that good yet. :)

Yeah, of course you want to hear good things too. I really couldn't find a good art forum where my stuff could get evaluated in a good way. They were either too hard or too soft and unlike Goldilocks I couldn't find the one that was just right.

I want to be evaluated for someone at my level, but a lot of art forums you need to already be very good before they will take you seriously. Umm....Aren't the people in the beginning stages the ones that need the most help? Then there were a couple that everything was "lovely" and "cute". That's sweet, but that's not going to do anything about the fact that every woman I draw has monster bootie.

far as art and drawing is concerned, for anyone interested.. Godoggo, Swan, etc. the best advice i ever got was to do pre-pro (pre-production) ie a practice drawing. basically where you crush out a rough draft with no fear, no erasing, just get it down. when committed and motivated, this step opens up new worlds for me. trains your hand-eye coordination for the particular piece

then when you begin the final work, you can look at your pre-pro, pinpoint what can be improved, and attack your work with preparation, confidence, pride & a sense of fun. the Kratos piece i've posted is the one that really made me a believer in committing to this process

11-22-14, 01:03 AM
Do you still lighten your preliminary lines or do you just leave them since it's a rough draft? I always start with basic shapes, do you do that too?

What if because you didn't erase your mistakes it looks crazy? Do you do a second pre-production piece? I'm having no eraser anxiety. My erasers are my best friends. :p

Lady Marmalade - Patti Labelle (1975)

Sexy, soulful, and full of fun & confidence - you share a lot in common with Patti Labelle's New Orleans themed hit, LADY MARMALADE. We've all heard the newer rendition, but this classic was forged by one of music's most unique divas - It's a playful seduction piece that hits all the right funky notes without being too crass or trying too hard. We're pegging you as the same, a sweet & classy individual who also knows how to have some fun.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Many words have been used to describe Freddie Mercury and Queen's timeless classic BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY: Strange, quirky, blasphemous, invigorating, and of course - epic - All of which are words that could be used to describe the innards of both your mind and soul. A poppy and energetic individual whose imagination knows no bounds, this song's winding thematics and brazenly over-the-top elements were made to accompany you! This is the song you need to be blaring in the car whenever you need a piece of music to make your soul soar.

As both Godoggo and I got Hotel California, but neither of us posted the blub, here it is.

Rhythmically unique, reflective, and widely considered to be one of the best songs of all time, The Eagle's HOTEL CALIFORNIA shares a lot in common with you. The song's slow and intrinsically hypnotizing composition gives off vibes of mystery, curiosity, and longing - all wrapped in a classy pseudo-southwestern package. The journey it describes is a lot like your own - a life of opened and closed doors... A mixed bag of emotions that leaves you with the phrase "it gets better" as you try to decipher whether certain elements of your life are of heaven or hell. We're willing to be this song already speaks to you, and if it didn't before we hope it does now.

How's everyone doing?

I was okay until about an hour ago, when I started to get a bit dizzy. I haven't figured out why yet, but it's been slowly getting a little bit better for about the past ten minutes or so.

I don't know what computer dizziness is, but as long as I'm not doing actual work where I have to look at a lot of little numbers on screen, I usually relax by playing card games on the computer. They've never made me dizzy before.

It could have something to do with low sugar levels. I started feeling a little bit better after I ate dinner a little while ago.

I once hear the best advice from a doctor was if you feeling tired, dizzy, or whatever, drink some water and then eat something. I've been dehydrated and didn't know it. As soon as I drank water I was right as rain. (pun intended)

It's going to be fine. Yes much of the top half is going to be mainstream, super popular Pixar/Disney/Ghibli stuff, but there will be plenty lesser known stuff at the bottom. Just like every MoFo Countdown ever.

An actually good animation list. Miss Vicky hates it just because it has hybrids on it.

http://www.timeout.com/newyork/film/the-100-best-animated-movies

I hate it because it has films on it that go way beyond "hybrid" to be flat out not animated. Also, no way in hell is Pinocchio the best animated movie ever.

Miss Vicky
11-23-14, 11:37 PM
That's not the point, the point of the list for me was to get people interested in animation to see films they wouldn't normally see.

The point is to get a gauge of what people here like best and to get those not already interested in animation to give it a shot. It succeeds at both.

Also, you're sitting here throwing a tantrum (again) and making gross assumptions when you have no idea what's on the list.

I have to agree with Miss Vicky on this one. That list doesn't make a lot of sense. There are a lot of movies that I've never even heard of, the order makes no sense at all, and some of those movies are movies that I wouldn't consider animated, and I wanted hybrids on the list.

And Pinocchio is a good movie, but it's definitely not the #1 animated movie.

That Time Out list is out of whack, but at least it has everything it should have on it. The order is way off for my personal preferences and it included a few that have no business being there

Swan

Of course, none of those are reasons to discount it. Personal preference and whether you've heard of it or not does not list make wrong.

Anyway, I'm done with this conversation. I'm spoken my mind. Miss Vicky is right, I have no idea what will be on the list - but I never said it will be crap. I said I'm terrified it will be. People have been incredibly scattered about it and some of the stuff Miss Vicky has said about it has me worried.

That's the last I'm going to say about it.

Miss Vicky
11-23-14, 11:45 PM
The wasn't the point of the list for me.

And AGAIN you don't know what's going to be on the MoFo Countdown. You're making gross assumptions based on your own insecurities and lack of faith in the ability of a group of film lovers to make a list with as much or more diversity as what Time Out came up with.

The voting process itself will and has done more to get people already interested in animation to watch movies they otherwise would not have seen than any top 100 countdown could do.

Are there some obscure and worthy films on the Time Out list that won't make our countdown? Sure. But I'm confident that you'll find the opposite of that to be true as well.

Swan

I'm curious what animation Swan does not like.

I like visually interesting animation. There is so much you can do with the medium and that's why obscure animated films are often so cool because they are visually unique. I'm not too big a fan of a movie like Brave because for a visually uninteresting movie like that, the story has to be good. I love a lot of popular animation, don't get me wrong. I think Pixar was fantastic before Up. My favorite of theirs is WALL-E, followed by Ratatouille. But, the thing I love about animation is how visually creative it can be.
