Good old Kurosawa. I also plan on watching this soon and I won't lie, my expectations are sky high right now.

Classic Kurosawa, even if i'd still put it below Cure and Kairo, I'd give it a 3.5 out of 4. But pay.the.fucck.attention. I'm still unclear about some of the details of the story. I get the gist, but I'd be lying if I said I understood it 100%. But it's rapturous, engrossing, atmospheric, storytelling that is vintage Kurosawa. He's such a master. Looking forward to watching it again, with stronger focus this time (I was drained and exhausted from work).

I'll be watching it later today and will give my two cents. Going by your description this should meet my expectations and then some :D. Though, to be honest, I don't think anything could come quite close to Cure. That one's in a class of its own.

Started Knight of Cups (again). Don't think I'll be able to get through it (again).

Tree of Life is one my favorite films, but this ain't no Tree of Life; this is Streets of Boredom. And you know something is wrong when you think it's been 40 minutes at the very least and it turns out it's only been 28 minutes. :( and then later you think an hour and it's actually 40 minutes this time. A movie feeling 20 minutes behind is not a good feeling. :/

My bro worked with him recently and said whenever the actors left the set to go eat or hang out in their trailers etc he would stay behind to help with the next day's set up or pack up equipment, and a girl friend of mine years ago had to mould his torso for Matrix. She said he;s very quiet, very sweet natured, and was always appreciative to the crew. Partied with everyone at the wrap party t Luna Park. You never see him in the headlines for either shoot or private life shenanigans.

I didn;t care for Tony Scott's artsy rehash in part 2, but I'll tell you that after seeing part 3 for the FINAL time in my life, part 2 seems like a decent movie. Nothing will ever beat part 1. They should just drop all ambitions on rehashing it again. Someone get Eddie Murphy another agent, please!

I think part of it is the wish fulfillment, who doesn't want to be a book detective going around solving occult mysteries and making hot monkey love with sexy demonesses and satanic priestesses? Also the slow-burning nature of it is oddly soothing and makes you want to start a fire and pull out a good book afterwards. It's Chinatown meets Rosemary's Baby, and for my money it's better than either.

Most people hate ambiguous endings, they want the hero to ride off into the sunset with his lady love in his arms, or at the very least to have everything explained. They don't like feeling dumb.
