This is one of those films that has been on my watchlist for years now. I've just never gotten around to it, that however is changing today.
Only seen two Jarmusch films up to this point: Broken Flowers and Ghost Dog. Both were pretty rad, so hope this one is of quality as well. ya

I'm done with finals and am leaving Singapore to go back to the U.S. in a few days. While I've been spending my evenings doing as much in the city as I can, my days can now be filled with movies. I've decided that one of my summer goals will be to become a Hawks completist so today I'm watching 3 of his movies.
http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/1GI46Apo4g0phoWqc1qVL3evnCa.jpg
El Dorado (1966) by Howard Hawks
Which I've finished already, not as good as Rio Bravo, but it's great!
https://twentyfourframes.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/mansfavorit-sport-poster1.jpg
Man's Favorite Sport? (1964) by Howard Hawks
Which I've also finished already, and it's very good. It follows the same basic plot as Bringing Up Baby with Paula Prentiss doing her best Katherine Hepburn impression. But unlike that film and like late Hawks, it's very lackadaisical and more concerned with hanging out with its characters (which also means actors in Hawks) than it is getting from one end of the film to the other.
http://cf2.imgobject.com/t/p/original/jxWTTbPaICNRGR67fxWocMZAauC.jpg
Rio Lobo (1970) by Howard Hawks
I'm about halfway through this one, and it's by far the worst of the three that I've seen today and it's very weak for a Hawks film in general.
Tomorrow I'll probably watch Red Line 7000 though there don't seem to be a quality copy of it anywhere

Mark is correct; I've seen the 4 other big ones from Tarkovsky
Ivan's Childhood is the only Tarkovsky I didn't love. Not because it's bad, but probably because it deals with war, which is a subject I usually don't go for.

Yes, watch that one. I think that is the war film I'd start with if I was ever showing war films to people who hate war films.
It's like Tarkovsky with his guts on his sleeve. I'd recommend Paths of Glory.

First hour in Come and See is audiovisual bliss and has a masterful surreal and dreamlike atmosphere, such a shame that in the second it becomes your typical "war is hell" movie.
I find it to be better than Ivan's Childhood despite its flaws.

Well, The Conjuring is more sure to hit the spot, while Insidious is a bit more unique and such. But both are in the same vein of paying homage to the classic old ghost stories, and they are extremely well made.
Read about them and watch the one you like the best. Both are good, except if you hate ghosts stories and stuff. :)

Chasing Amy - This is probably the most emotionally real film Kevin Smith has ever done. I love the use of hand held cameras to build tension during intense moments (I often wonder why Smith never used this technique again), the low budget look of the film, and the performances of the film's three leads. This is the best work Ben Affleck has ever done that he didn't direct.

Just was bored with it. I went in expecting a thriller so it could have been my fault.

Yeah, despite personally thinking it an entertaining film as well, almost all of its greatness and fun lies underneath and in the script. Looking for a thriller kind of film could very well cloud your mind and move your eyes and eyes to something else than it intended.
It was a satirical adventure thriller - and a damn fine one.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986)
Castle in the Sky is my third favorite Ghibli film and the best one of those five.
One thing I would to mention is that The Cat Returns is a slight spin off of Whisper of the Heart. It does not continue Whisper's story but it contains one of the characters. You don't have to watch Whisper before Cat but I personally believe you should, considering the fact that I interpreted The Cat Returns as a story the main character of Whisper of the Heart wrote.
(Please correct me if I'm wrong on that interpretation Guap.)

Arrietty is my least favorite of the Ghibli films I liked (My Neighbor Totoro was the only film of their's I didn't like) because of its pointless villain and a hard to explain lack of focus on certain aspects of the plot. Are your reasons for you not liking it Camo the same reasons I mentioned?
