I'm going to try one from the MoFo top 100 Western's list; it's my first John Wayne movie:facepalm:

I didn't see this post until after, but it bothered me also and I didn't know if it was just me. It didn't ruin the movie for me like the one Honeykid mentioned, but it lost a half popcorn from my rating.

Watch Haute Tension. That'll do it. Also, most Stephen King adaptations, too.

I've seen High Tension, and I remember the ending was ridiculous and made much of what came before it not even make sense, but Red River was on its way to becoming one of my favorite movies of all time and then it completely fizzled out near the end. That's what made the ending so disappointing. A lot of movies have much worse endings than Red River, but none of those others movies flirt with greatness the way Red River does.

As for Stephen King, he struggles with endings himself, so it's no surprise the same thing occurs in some of the adaptations.

It was a surprise ending, and I think it made perfect sense if you suffer from split personality disorder ;). It's one of the best French horrors ever - after Martyrs of course. Which reminds me, I still need to review it on my blog.

It also has a great soundtrack.

Red Desert (1964) by Michelangelo Antonioni on 35mm!

As part of the Copenhagen Architecture X Film Festival im watching Red Desert tonight. I have only seen two Antonioni films before. L'avventura from 1960 which was an excellent arthouse flick and Chung Kuo - Cina from 1972 a documentary about China. The only downside to this, is that they are showing the film rather late and it is with swedish subtitles.

I don't think I'd ever even heard of The Immigrant up until a few days ago and now it seems that everyone is watching it.

That's because it's had numerous delays and title changes and because James Gray's films don't seem to get much publicity. At one point the movie was called Lowlife, then Nightengale, and finally The Immigrant. It hasn't actually seen theatrical release beyond film festivals and the like. I had no idea it was even close to being available until I happened to stumble upon it while looking for other movies to watch.

A Brighter Summer Day (1991) by Edward Yang

Yi Yi: A One and a Two from 2000 is in my humble opinion one of the biggest masterpieces of the 00's. As far as i remember A Brighter Summer Day is supposedly the magnus opus of Edward Yang, so to say the least my expectations are skyhigh. Its definitively my plan to explore more of Edward Yang, The Terrorizers from 1986 should also be an excellent movie.

At the beginning of January, I started keeping track of every movie that I watch, how long it is, and of course, the date of when I watched the movie. Basically, it was an example of what happens when I relinquish my obsessive compulsive disorder into the wild and don't choose to apply cognitive reasoning about the necessity or relevance of my actions. I also have a list of every movie that I have ever seen, who directed it, and every video-game that I have ever beaten.

Any boo, on February 16th, I set my personal record for longest 'run-time' in a day.

February 16th: I watched Let Me In, Rush, Bad Grandpa, You're Next, and Nothing Left to Fear.

This amounted to 525 minutes worth of movies, or eight hours and forty-five minutes.

Jesus Christ! In my defense, I rarely watch movies on the weekdays, and so, I take a day out to completely indulge.

I want to challenge my personal record.

I want to challenge my personal record

McConnaughay, Frozen is a fantastic shout! Have watched far too many times!

By the way, our website would be suitable for those times when you feel you can no longer contain your OCD - keep track of all upcoming movie and game releases! Please feel free to recommend me some more stuff! I would be very happy

OK. Beware! The ultimate hippie sheet below:

10/65: Selbstverstümmelung - wasn't it you recommending it in here? In spite of two other shorts of the director this one I found really good
Cremaster - I only saw the first part, but it's the epitome of experimental art pretentiousness hipsters rave about.
The Dante Quartet - my favourite Brakhage, right to-the-point flickering colours, Window Water Baby Moving is awesome as well
Elégia - a great short by Zoltán Huszárik. I have to see Sinbad!
Emak-Bakia, Entr'acte, L' étoile de mer - obvious dada/cinema pure/call-it-whatever-you-want experimentals
La femme qui se poudre - weird stuff
Fuego en Castilla (Tactilvisión del páramo del espanto) - as experimental as eating sausages with chocolate; surprisingly really good
Krakatau - intense and dark, outstanding!
A légy - fly pov
The Life and Death of 9413, a Hollywood Extra - really cool
Light Is Calling - beautiful take on revitalizing what's already gone (mkay, I'm being pretentious right now)
Phantoms of Nabua - how could we forget our beloved Thai director "Joe", his Boonmee short is even better
Quick Billy - from contemplative experimental to faux silent movie
Le révélateur - the peak of Zanzibar films, narcotic vision of Garrel
Surface Tension - just another experimental film
Suite 212 - video art, "to reach ultimate katharsis you must stare into unset TV, or turn it backwards, or break it, or some other stuff, can't remember, anyways I'm a hippie director and Imma add some violet to these boring found footage. Wooh!" - I really liked it, though
Tejút - Fliegauf goes experimental conteplation
Witch's Cradle - my second favourite Maya Deren film, usually gets overlooked, because everybody is fapping on Meshes of the Afternoon
Начало (I'm a hipster and use Cyrillic) - probably the best Пелешян film
Блокада by Сергій Лозниця - already mentioned it somewhere
probably forgot half a dozen of 'em, but these seem to be good for a start. You've probably seen the majority anyway.

I actually think this is the fourth time im seeing it. I think i really underrated it by giving it only 4. Its a movie i keep coming back to. Its intriguing and thoughtfull with som wonderfull scenes. Also the way he changes filmstyle during the film is fantastic. This time im also showing it to my roommate who haven't seen it before. I find it very hard to believe that a movie that did as well as 12 Years a Slave at the box office is really difficult to watch, and yes, I've seen it.
But the point is that everyone could've seen it and found it hard to sit through and it wouldn't change the amount its made. They've already paid for the film. In truth, everyone could've paid the money and then not seen the film at all and it'd have the same box office.

A lot of people go into films like this, Schindler's List being another (and that made nearly twice as much as 12 Years has atm), knowing that it's going to be difficult/disturbing, but it becomes one of those films you 'have to see'. The Passion of the Christ made about half a billion dollars and, from what I've heard, that's mainly exploitative torture porn but I have no trouble understanding that many people would've had trouble sitting through it/found it difficult, whether they believed or not.

Rewatching a Hitchcock gem I just bought a few weeks ago:
I didn't mind this the last time I saw it, so you should really like it. :)

Watching the remake first will make the original feel like the remake. Definitely the wrong approach. I had to convince another person to watch the original Oldboy because he wanted to see the remake, just because it came out last year and it's newer.
