Konga TNT is obviously intentionally bad. 18 minutes in, popping in to say that I doubt I'm gonna hate this as much as Imdb does. But I love how some of the actors almost sound like they're trying to be Jason Griffith.

I used to knock this quite a bit, but revisiting it while exploring Lugosi's career last year improved my opinion of it quite a bit. Browning's direction can be too stagey for its own good, but there are moments where it just basks in the production design that are quite atmospheric, and Lugosi of course is tremendous. No other Dracula has embodied the mixture of alienness, oldness and menace as fully as he does here.

I have a feeling that this film might be better than I ever thought it would be :
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0b/Year_of_living_dangerously.jpg
I must also make sure I see The Way Back (2010) - Peter Weir's last film (to date) which is very well regarded. There's not much else of his I haven't seen, except for Green Card. Picnic At Hanging Rock is one of my all-time favourite films. Also, Gallipoli, Witness, The Mosquito Coast (preferred the novel though), Dead Poets Society, Fearless, The Truman Show and Master and Commander.
He had a great track record.

Blow Out (1981)
very good and enjoyable film, with good performances. Can't believe it's 40 years old!
I much prefer the film it was based upon, Antonioni's Blowup (1966), but this one is very watchable. Let us know what you thought of it...

Shame I didn’t know it was a remake! I liked it, very De Palma-ish. Remembered Nancy Allen was once his wife, but not which film I know her from, I’d call that sad.
Feels quite dated now in terms of direction - so much foreshadowing leading up to Sally’s death that, despite this being noir, I thought for a moment there she might survive.
Loved Travolta, though - perfect for it. The whole thing reminded me vaguely of Berberian Sound Studio. Sound editing gets much less of a giallo treatment in Blow Out, though, to my mind, and I liked that about it.
Will track down the original, thanks for flagging.

Haven't seen "Berberian". I'm not a horror fan, so I've seen very little of it. I can imagine what you mean though. DePalma's intuition is not very far from a horror style.
I have a hunch you'll like Blowup. Antonioni composes a moody almost existential feel set in London's wild 'n crazy '60s. There are a few anachronistic "mod" episodes, but they fit the story. I love the mystery and the emphasis on sound and mood rather than dialogue.

The third film i have seen from him. I have really liked them all. Makes me more interested in seeing A Tale of Winter. Which is a movie i had read about, put on my watch list, and i forgot about it. Long before i had seen any of his films though.

For all the fuss, this doesn’t really leave much of an impact. Better than the rest of the recent stuff and pretty good entertainment. A few good touches in the beginning and, interestingly, absolutely no wokery that I could detect. But nothing anywhere close to beating Casino Royale, which (and I said so right after that came out) is rather counter-productive and unfortunate for the rest of it all.
(Ugh. Billy-****ing-Eilish in that company).
Also remember the line about a film only being as good as its villain, and god, darling Rami is no match for Raoul Silva.
But at least people tried.

Last night, it was Lamb, the newest from that strangest of studios, A24. Set on a remote, misty volcano in Iceland, a married couple live a remote, misty life, raising sheep way down a long, misty road. Life mainly consists of surviving, harvesting grass and feeding the sheep. It's a life that could be spiritually enlightening or that would drive any normal person completely batsh*t crazy. I'm among the latter since I understand it when the couple adopt a lamb, put it in clothes and set it up at the dinner table. There's something else in their past, implied, the loss of a child and really, there' nothing else to do in this miserable place.
Then the husband's brother shows up. He's an unknown, seems to be sketchy and ominous, has designs for the wife. Things get even stranger when he, after some initial "reservations", takes to the lamb as a human kid.
I don't know how some people might impose interpretations on all of this, but I'm thinking that if I lived in this place, I would be so crazy that dressing up a lamb as a person would be the least of my problems. As it turns out, that is the least of their problems.
It's an A24 movie, so you know that none of this goes anywhere normal or simple.
Oh, and, by the way, unlike the trailer, you will not hear the Beach Boys singing God Only Knows anywhere in the movie. I think it was the trailer makers way of making a little joke and telling you that this gets strange. As though you didn't know that already. After all, it's an A24 movie. I wonder if they will ever make a Rom-Com?

At least that’s now seen.
Good colours and I am a huge fan of Jake, but the sudden overwhelming Americanness of it ruins the magic. Remakes are an unnecessary evil.
The dialogue is pathetic. “I’m not going to keep doing this with you.” Repeated three times. Somebody, kill me. There is, however, a very idiosyncratic way in which Gyllenhaal says “alright” ever since Prisoners that I find endearing.
What they do is blow every single plot element of the original way out of proportion, everything spelt out and hence absolutely ridiculous. The dread factor missing.

No, I agree. And I have used free ones too. The Netflix quality is better though. I find that the best selection is on Amazon Prime. In fact I find the Prime algorithm surprisingly good. When it says I’ll like something, I always do, and it’s often the most obscure low-budget stuff I’d have never unearthed otherwise.

Yeah I have HBO, though I had to set it up vía VPN, being in London, which was a hassle. But my hyper-cinematic family has been living off VPNs anyway. I mean, I like HBO, but I usually follow my own decade-old list of what I need to watch where I tick things off and add new items, so it’s more convenient to find all of that on Prime and so on.
I do need to get better at making full use of HBO, I don’t think I really do.

Well, I’m trying.

The thing on the playground sand looks nothing like a squid, so that’s the first takeaway. “Metaphorical”, hey.
Does show the nature of gambling rather well.
…and yet I’ve given up for now. Doesn’t do it for me.

Don’t know if I’ll revisit Squid Game (those Hunger Game-type shows have never been my cup of tea), but for now, thought I’d try this:

This is spectacular. As good as A Dark Song, which is one of my favourite films of all time.
The family who did that is my new favourite creative family ever. Move over, the Redgraves.

I enjoyed The Hunger Games.
I like the premise quite a lot but not the execution. Nothing wrong with Hunger Games at all, but somehow I don’t digest most dystopian stuff well, unless it’s Margaret Atwood. I do think I might come back to Squid Game one of these days.

A very good film. Had this great feeling of authenticity about the small details through out the film. Kind of like when i saw Small Change ( Traffaut).

Great movie.
Great movie. As i have reflected on the film, the character of Connery is an interesting one, both well acted and well written. Probably a narcissist. Marnie has obvious issues, but she is aware of this her self. I would be tempted to watch it again. I decided to mention Connery, because Tippi Hedren obviously did a great job. To avoid making a fool of my self, i will keep this short."]

Yeah, I agree. It got pretty tepid reviews after its initial run, but over the years has gained considerably in stature. I'll have to sit down and do some commentary on it. It was really a pretty damn good film!

Looks promising(ish), but why, oh why can’t even Flanagan make anything R-rated just once? What is the world coming too. I miss proper gore and sex. I know Netflix is to blame, but still. Can’t fen remember the last R-rated show I saw.

Fans have been waiting a long time for a Dune movie, after several previous tries, it was considered unfilmable, but to me, this one worked. Big FX, the desert planet, humungous all-devouring worms, a cast featuring Timothee Chalomet as sort of a Luke Skywalker and several pro wrasslers as menacing warriors, it works. It's long, has some dead air, but it definitely sets up a new epic franchise...must be more chapters in the making hopefully.
I have to admit to NOT having read the novels, so I went in "dry" (deliberately). There are a lot of plot twists and scary warriors, so I was not always sure about who was betraying who and I probably now need to read a plot synopsis and see it again.
Not being a fan, I don't know what book fans will think, but I liked it, it had the largest audience we have seen in a theater for a while and people cheered at the end. Because it has a lot of booms and crashes, the 100,000 watt woofers at the Senator (in Baltimore) got a well deserved workout. It's well worth seeing in a theater that has good sound and projection.
