Not feeling that great the last few days so I fancy something fairly light, and the film equivalent of comfort food. So I'm feeling in a bit of a James Stewart mood, as well as a Frank Capra mood, so I think I'll give You Can't Take it With You a shot.

I though Lost Boys was one of the best vamp films of all time, have reviewed it too on my thread. Definitely an 80s classic and has played a hand in the modern vampire lore too.

Tonight I've decided to stick Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on again. There really is nothing on telly tonight.

Thief (James Caan), only seen the ending before but I believe it's a classic.

Rambo (recent one) will probably be crap but it was only £3 and I havent seen it yet.

The Ides of March (Clooney and Gosling) highly rated and havent seen yet.

Skyline Will probably be pure crap but what the heck I was on a DVD binge.

Biutiful Javier Bardem. Didn't see yet.

It's kind of funny when they use the word " prequel " for movies that are made after the original. ( Yes, I know, they mean to say the movie is about the same subject before in time ). Personaly, I've never seen a " prequel " that was better than the original.

Not really, the print is just a bit larger than the original you posted but you are right. It is the same design which, me being the fashionista that I am, I should have assumed was something else than the original. Silly me:D
Remind me not to ask you confusing questions otherwise I might just remain permanently dazed and confused:p

Just curious, is the director's name mentioned anywhere on this American version?

Nausicaä
03-22-12, 09:16 AM
On the back I assume, as I don't own the American edition. Every blu ray/dvd should have the director's name on the back at least unless it's a steelbook with a seperate card cover then it's on the card cover. On my steelbook, the name is on the back of the metal.

cinemaafficionado
03-22-12, 09:26 AM
Ok, so this would be my point, since you posted the front of the box in German. I would assume that the average person on this site doesn't know German, so the question would be legitimate.
However, you seem to assume that I am above average, hence your befudllement. I thank you for that.:)
Also, if I am not mistaken, the production companies have been known to change designs for the same movie over a period of time. Unless someone knew that there was a re-make, having never seen a new design, they could easily assume it's the original.
What a cool exersize in philosophy.;)

The title is in English, not German. Don't need to be able to speak German to know what it is. If you know of the original film and the remake like you do(and my reply was to you), it's not hard to make out what is the original and what is the remake - just common sense. :yup:

After the big success that was Marathon Man (review here (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=799345)) I think I might have a 70s thriller season. The 70s are often associated with a large number of great thrillers, many of which I've not seen yet, plus a couple I'd like to revisit. So over the next week or two I will watch at least some of the following -

All the President's Men, Day of the Jackal, Sleuth, Dog Day Afternoon, Three Days of the Condor, The Conversation, Charley Varrick, Deliverance, Assault on Precinct 13, Parallax View and The Boys from Brazil.

Not sure what I will go with first yet.

All the movies that you mention, I think are worth seeing. The stand-out for me would be Deliverance and I really liked Three Days Of the Condor but I like Robert Redford. I liked him ever since i watched him in a movie called the Chase with Brando. When Redford directed A River Runs Through It, he was looking at a young Brad Pitt and almost wanting him to be his successor. He wasn't too far off the mark.

If you like exploitation cinema, then this is worth seeing. The director seems to've targeted every perversion/taboo in the book and stuffed them all in this film. Off the top of my head there's rape (both male and female) attempted rape, urination, homosexuality (both male and female) beastiality, animal slaughter, blasphemy/crucifixion, drug use and incest. Along with the usual violence, murder and nudity you'd expect from a 70's exploitation film.

Then possibly Raising Arizona for the billionth time, cause the Coen Brothers were the best comedy filmmakers of the 1980's and 90's. I liked their more serious films too, but really, they don't hold a candle to the surreal lunacy they used to get up to.
