The Handmaiden is a masterclass cinema.
The cinematography is top notch, great actors and beautifully directed by Park Chan-wook.

I'm not getting it. Not sure if it's because I just find Bosworth deadpan in everything or if I'm just not enjoying the movie. I had to take a break. All the actors are irritating me so far apart from Gish, and she hasnt had much screen time. Maybe I'm just not in the right mood for this.

Because I had seen it years ago and remember really, really digging it for a lighter comedy that is totally weird and even a little bit disarming. Plus, it's rated R so I get to hear a bunch of F words and sexual references, which I love.

I really want to see this again. I remember seeing it but falling asleep because I was tired (hard to believe sleeping for that reason, I know). But I did catch some of the commentary and remember Wim mentioning his DP lit the inside of a trailer home scene for like 3 hrs while Wim went to lunch. I guess the DP had so many mini lights pointed at different areas like knick knacks on the shelf, etc. I wanna get this on blu ray but those Criterion prices..they a make a me a cry.

The 5th is probably my favourite out of the general HOF's as i think A Separation is my favourite that i've discovered from one of them. Not sure what the genre/era ones would be.

Wow. Always shocked when i've seen something you haven't. I'm not really a fan personally, it's famous for two things one i won't mention as you've not seen it (i imagine you have already heard about it though) and the beginning of Ray and his cockney hardman persona that i find really boring, think i loved Sexy Beast because it was that exact character getting bullied and not treated as a cheesy hardman.

I do like Ray as a person though.

Does the 'I'm the daddy now' stuff not seem hilariously dated to you now? Well, i wasn't even alive then but do you think it works on the earnest level it's supposed to? I think it's a good attempt and there's some interesting writing but for the most part it's difficult to take seriously.

Probably my favourite Hitch.

Mine too. Still holds up. Interesting reading that Joan Fontaine felt very uncomfortable on set. She felt that Hitch, Olivier & the woman who played Mrs Danvers were a British clique unto themselves & rather looked down on her since she was born in Japan. Olivier also disliked her because he wanted his wife, Vivian Leigh, to have the part. Hitch encouraged these insecure feelings in Fontaine, which made her more vulnerable in her role.

Trying to catch up on some "dude, everybody's seen it!" classics. I have so many New Hollywood flicks I still haven't seen! Starting from this one. One of mark f's favourites if I'm not mistaken! As far as Boorman flicks go, I didn't get Point Blank and thought Beyond Rangoon was mediocre (then again that was years ago) and I absolutely adored Hell in the Pacific (that was in 2014) and couldn't resist Connery's tight panties in Zardoz (also in 2014).

Re-watching this good movie. Believe it or not Wahlberg is a professor of English Literature. He actually carries it off well. Based on Dostoevsky's book of the same name.
