My dad is dragging me out to go see an early preview screening of Risen, a sudo-christian movie about a roman centurion dealing with the resurrection of Jesus. I'm interested if not a little skeptical. But I like the Alamo Drafthouse so I can't wait to sit in those seats again. Last time I was there I saw Sicario, all the way back in September.

I actually had to stop watching True Grit (2010) because FX's streaming service is a piece of crap. They chopped up the movie with random fades like I was watching it on their TV channel and the ads popped up in the middle of the movie. I wasn't enjoying it too much and I don't know if it was the movie I wasn't enjoying or the crappy service so I just stopped. I didn't want that to be my first experience of a film I'd heard nothing but great things about.

This is some good writing on Rohmer, and Hawks, and several of their films. Anderson's writing can get pretty baroque, but I think that there's enough there to make wading through his language worth it. It also starts with Rohmer's most elegant defense of himself:

deaf-mute does with his hands. After all, I do not say, I show. I show people
