Back From Eternity (1956)

No, it's not a sequel of From Here to Eternity, but a remake of the 1939 Airplane disaster movie Five Came Back (which starred a very young Lucille Ball).
Interestingly, both movies have the same director - apparently trying to improve on the original with the remake.
I just spotted a young Barbara Eden in a tiny role - according to IMDB this movie was her first film appearance.

My earlier post was actually about something i read about De Sica a few months back, Visconti was mentioned by the guy as one of the best Italian Directors so i looked into him a few days back after your recent Italian Film binge reminded me :)

De Sica is my favorite director ever.. I'm sure watching yesterday's movie, his first one, "Obsession" was pretty good (7.5/10), but I remember skipping "The Leopard" because of it's slow start with so much aristocracy, and I have to say the same about "Death In Venice" which is 33 minutes in, which could have easily been reduced to 30 seconds.

Someone in another group said how "The Leopard" was so beautifully shot, which is usually a turn-off because that plays such a little part in the movie, and usually the last form of flattery when the script and acting isn't very good.

I don't want to dissuade you from watching this, but I rather be honest, and save you some time. If I don't review this, it means I turned it off!

Just finished Cinema Paridiso for the sixth or seventh time. (American Version) I don't think i will watch te American version again. The American version cut over forty minutes because they would not give the American audience enough credit to watch the entire film.

Allied, full of drama, angst, period detail and action, but.... I defy anybody to NOT see the comparison to Casablanca. For God's sake, it's set there, star crossed lovers and all that. Even a night club that looks like Rick's Cafe Americain. Why would they do that? Robert Zameckis has been in the business long enough to not make a bone headed move like that. They could have set it anywhere else, in any "exotic" location, had the same plot, and it would be one star better. As it was, I just came out thinking that Brad Pitt is no Bogie. He ain't. Bogart had those mannerisms that made you think, as my son mentioned, that he might put a cigarette out in your eye if he feels like it, something Pitt just doesn't do well.

I'd recommend watching 'Dont Breathe' Fred Alvarez new thriller. I watched it last night and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Admittedly the ending gets a bit silly and you have that 'oh why go there' moment, but if you can get past that it's actually a pretty solid thriller.

Excellent film, but very difficult to watch. I always feel so drained when I watch it because it's so emotional. It's like a kick to the gut.
