Did you ever give a review or commentary on snuff 102, cricket? I'm interested in seeing what you thought.

I wrote something short about it, basically that it sucked in comparison to a regular movie but it was effective at just being sick.

Yeah I actually had a meltdown over it and got on the extreme horror forum where I saw it recommended to say it was a redneck misogynistic circle jerk to give the writer/director a grubby ending at the massage parlour. Lo and behold he responded within minutes and thanked me for my feedback. Really nice, intelligent young guy who went on to clarify his PoV. I was so emotionally tuned out at that point (happened in the opening credits), I shut it out and refused to acknowledge the tagline. So so angry at how I could not have a reaction to this which was simply me totally missing the point.

A month or two later I woke up with the realisation the penny finally dropped. From that PoV it is spot on - how much is too much. Snuff 102 was my 'too much'.

I actually decided it was a very well made film, especially for the grubby genre. And I came to appreciate that sometimes having no emotional reaction whatsoever to a movie can be as powerful as being pushed into hyperdrive.

I read a review of that, that says :

" This film starts out incredibly bleak and depressing in the first 20 minutes. Then it turns shocking really quickly. Then it goes from shocking to cruel, to immoral, to extreme, to nearly unwatchable, and then finally completely unwatchable "

On Saturday Night, I'll be going to a family Halloween party which is something done annually that I never usually attend because I have work. It isn't something I can say I am looking forward to. On Sunday Night, however, I'll be able to celebrate Halloween the way I want, a movie marathon with my girlfriend and three other friends. We've all chosen some horror films and we'll be spending the whole day watching them. I chose "Creep 2" which only recently came out through Video On-Demand. My girlfriend chose Zombieland. Others chosen include the 1977 Japanese horror-comedy The House, Child's Play 2 (which is one of my all-time favorite horror films), whereas, I haven't gotten word on the final film. My friend originally chose Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, but, thankfully, he has come to his senses. Either way, I am very excited for Sunday. And, on Tuesday, I'll be publishing my third novel, a horror called Catherine: Forever with Love. :cool:

My outlandish, over-analysed theory:

After watching this fanatstic film I thought ok, it's a straight up ending - Connie goes to prison and Nicki is better off without him anyway free to pursue his therapy and we get a happy ending (of sorts) for him. Then I thought......................
SPOILER AHEAD
what if...................... more or less the entire film is just Connie wrestling with his inner demons? The entire robbery and aftermath is just a rouse to show us how he is completely at odds with the therapy his brother is undergoing, as he disapproves of it - but ultimately knows it is the best solution.

1) The analogy of taking the wrong person out of care when he escapes from the hospital ("I thought my brother was someone else")
2) The constant shots of the tv newscaster - representing his guilt at the situation
3) The guy he took out of care (Ray?) falling to his death at the end - showing that this is what will happen to his brother if he takes him out of care.
4) At the end we hear the therapist say "Your brother has been "responsible" by making this decision". But going to jail wouldn't be responsible would it, and lets face it, Nick would have been in the slammer with him if it had been real (does a jury really believe that Nick wasn't the other guy holding up the bank?). How is he even "responsible" as a guardian when in prison?
5) The reference to acid. Is this all a trip?
So does all this point to the fact we are seeing Connie coming to this conscious but tough decision of sending his brother to care? Is it all in his mind?
