Four movies left from the Coen Brothers and this comical classic is next.

The Darjeeling Limited by Wes Anderson
This will round out my experience with Wes. I'll have seen all his features after I finish this.
After that, I might go in on Raising Arizona (recent posts about it demand I make time for it). Been in my Netflix queue for a while, so it's about time.
Tonight's going to be tough after I finish The Darjeeling Limited. I'm compelled to also watch Lynch's Mulholland Dr on Netflix or Blue Velvet on HBO GO (which I have yet to see in its entirety), Haneke's Funny Games on Netflix, Bergman's Passion of Anna or Hour of the Wolf - both on Netflix.
Can't decide. Good problem to have, I suppose.
donniedarko
03-22-13, 09:34 PM
Here's how I'd rank the ones you're considering
1. Blue velvet
2. Mulholland Drive
3. Funny Games
4. Hour of The Wolf
5. Passion of Anna
Personally though I'd take all of these over Raising Arizona.

Interesting. I'm a huge fan of the Coen brothers, but I suppose I don't need to watch two comical films in a row. The thing about Funny Games, Passion of Anna, and Hour of the Wolf is that they're all relatively short, meaning I might have time for another whole feature after I finish the first two pictures.
I won't know until the moment hits, but thanks for your insight. It'll help me decide, for sure.
hapax_legomena
03-22-13, 09:54 PM
Is it the 1997 Funny Games? If so, watch that. If that's on Netflix, I'm about to tell all my friends to watch it. Even though 99% will hate it.
It's tough to pick one out of that group because they are all worth watching, but Hour of the Wolf is my favorite one listed.
I would also watch all of those over Raising Arizona.

Yeah, it's the original. I can't imagine why Haneke would want to direct the same film twice, but money's an enticing mistress.

I've never been a huge fan of that movie and think it is slightly over rated but at the constant bugging of my friend I'm going to give it another shot.

I hope so too. There Will Be Blood for me is one of the best films of the past decade, I initally gave it a rating of 4.5 (or 9/10), but my rating has increased to 10/10 now and I haven't even watched it for a second time. You'll find a lot of love for him around here, I know Hitchfan and Skepsis love PTA as well.
I've still actually got two films of his to see myself: Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love, I've kind of been saving Magnolia for a while now so might finally watch it on the weekend or something, I just hold him in so high regard because I honestly think three of the four films I've seen are masterpieces and all very different, Sydney was a very solid first feature as well, so far I'd rate his films:
There Will Be Blood 5
Boogie Nights 5
The Master 5
Sydney / Hard Eight 4

Ah nice, I knew you rated really highly some of his work so great to see you find all his stuff great. I'm always undecided when it comes to which is stronger out of Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights is more exuberant, fun, energetic where as There Will Be Blood is a more gripping, gritty and powerful portrayal that is more formal in it's straightforward tale of one man, both masterpieces in their own rights for me.
Anyway, so I don't end up spamming up this thread with PTA stuff, a film that I think I'll watch tonight that I recorded the other night...

Because I really enjoyed Fantastic Mr. Fox yesterday, my first film of the evening will be the newest Wes Anderson movie.
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTEwMTc3NDkzOTJeQTJeQWpwZ15BbWU3MDI4NTAwNzc@._V1_SX214_.jpg
This will be my fourth Wes Anderson film.
After that I will probably watch something else, but I haven't made up my mind yet. Some ideas are The Killers, The Hustler and The Color of Money (together), a Lars Von Trier picture, Pan's Labyrinth, etc. It will depend on my mood after the first film.
Suggestions are always welcome!

If you enjoy his other films then you should like Moonrise Kingdom, have you seen Rushmore? This is pretty random but maybe watch Rango, it's an odd quirky animation and I have no real reason to recommend it to you other than I love it and it popped into my head in another thread :p
Also I was going to watch Magnolia last night but ended up not so might watch that tonight, then later Donnie Darko for the trade-off tab. Five hours worth of film so I'll either be up late or will watch one tomorrow!

You already know how I feel about Magnolia (5) and I also enjoyed Donnie Darko, although it isn't nearly on the same level as Magnolia.

I loved it! A beautifully honest and ofttimes funny film that touched the deepest chords of my heart and soul. My 13 year old son is a paraplegic as a result of a car accident (also claimed the life of my husband) and therefore so many of the film's hues became a personal connections; acceptance, empathy without pity, the possibility joy and fulfillment in life no matter who you are or what your circumstances may be.

I'll try to watch three movies:
RoboCop (1987)
http://www.towatchpile.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Robocop-towatchpile.jpg
It's Rodent's movie choice for the Hall of Fame and it's also his favorite movie of all time. Naturally, this makes me very curious.
Face/Off (1997)
http://sigmamovie.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Face-Off-Full-Movie-Download.jpg
I'm a big fan of both Travolta and Cage, so I just have to watch this one.
Notorious (1946)
http://www.classicfilmfreak.com/wp-content/uploads2/2012/09/notorious_1946.jpeg
This will be the 19th Hitchcock movie I watch and it's about time! This is by far his most important movie I haven't seen yet.

My final exams begin in a week so I figured out it's a great time to stop watching movies and start learning. No, just kidding. It's a great time to watch some classics and highly regarded films. Here's my plan:
28 - Inland Empire
29 - Metropolis
30 - Ikiru
1 - To The Wonder
2 - Paisa
3 - Germany Year Zero and City Lights
4 - Tsai or Fassbinder film of a choice
5 - shall actually start learning ahahah

^I loved Looper. Did it win for best make-up? Because if it didn't, it should.
I was kind of skeptical about seeing Looper but one of my friends insisted that we should see it. It turned out to be a pretty decent action / sci-fi flick. A bit to long imo. If you like that sort of thing i can def. recommend it.

I could see how one might think it's a little too long. I personally didn't think so. I liked it more for the other elements besides the action, and I didn't think it was too sci-fi, just set in the future (all my opinion). I liked the character depth, acting, and premise of the movie most. And the fact that it had action, but it was mostly a good story that was told well.
Plus, I'm a Joey Gordon-Levitt fan, and every time he spoke it was like "WHAT!?" cause he was barely recognizable as himself, both physically and linguistically. So it was just cool in that sense. That whole "wow" factor may have made me think the movie was better than it is. :p
