It took me a 2nd viewing to appreciate Renoir... Good movie..

Same thing with "La Grande Illusion" - which is now one of my favorite ever. However, I didn't sleep well, and the grainy VHS, bad lighting, etc., made it impossible to read a few lines. TCM had it, and I saw it twice in a week.. Oh the humanity, even in war.

If not for the interesting turn of events in the third act, this would've been a 3.5/5. Now a 4. Wonderfully acted, and directed might I add, but some scenes are either too melodramatic, or just too drab. One of the two. No true complaints considering each drab moment is heavily outweighed by the compelling one's. God bless Haneke. On to renting Cache now.

Because, despite knowing stuff like this goes on, I didn't feel like I had to sit through 95 minutes of animal toture just to cement a point or whatever. I have seen clips, I have read articles and I'm not stupid. Of course I know.

But in all honesty, I know deep inside that I don't know exactly - I just have an idea of it. A rough picture. This documentary could give me the full picture. And it did (I posted late here, I'm done watching it now. Most frightening horror movie I have ever seen. And the scariest part? It's real)...

Finishing The Godfather Part II tonight. I watched about 45 minutes last night and passed out (not because it's bad or anything). The feel of the film is almost devoid of The Godfather's swagger. It just feels... different. Enjoyed what I watched plenty though.

Finished the rest of the 155 minutes I couldn't the other night (This films a quick 200 minutes). As I've mentioned, the swank from the first Godfather is missing. Replaced by federal agents and Al Pacino as a fledgling Don. Pacino's performance (while exceptional, of course) doesn't come near his best work. I did, however, enjoy watching him unravel all layers of character as his thirst for retribution starts clouding his, once thought, impenetrable judgment. It's a haunting performance, and a very thought provoking, sequel boundary pushing experience that's nowhere near The Godfather.

what do you think guys about this movie, i ve seen back in when it came out, i plan to have a rewatch, i remember the first half was superb in every way, very engaging stuff, but later in the second half of the movie it became a bombastic how to say it, generic... shame that it was nt like the first half of the movie which could be one of the best scifis done in the last 20 years. what do u think guys about this movie?

Shogun Assassin is pretty great, one of my friends favourite film. I've been meaning to watch the Lone Wolf & Cub films myself. I actually think it was you who told me about them HK.

I would recommend the manga, it's perhaps the greatest work of graphic fiction ever draw. I am serious, it's the graphic equivalent to the The Illiad for poems, War and Peace for novels and the 9th Symphony for music.

I haven't watched the movies (whose screenplay was written by the same person) but the greatness of the manga is transcendental and perhaps impossible to equal.
