The Weeping Meadow
My first Angelopoulos film, so hopefully like it. In the mood for some metaphysical, slow paced art-house.
Yeah, you've not really missed anything. :D

Im halfway through, it feel its a bit different than his other movies in terms of pacing and the way it is told. In lack of better words i would say its more down to earth and i really like that :)
It might be a bit far fetched but in some regards it reminds me of Yi Yi by Edward Yang. I know they are concerned with different time periods and that they are quite different directors, but still i kind of get the same vibe :)
Anyway until now its quite the thought provoking and a quite intimate portrait of China in the 1980's. Im very much looking forward to seeing the second half.

I haven't heard that much, but I know it's meant to be very weird, and I think very psychedelic and dark. I have it available to watch myself, but I have never really been sure. Gaspar Noe seems to be hit or miss, people either love him or hate him.

Cool, well Irreversible seems to be one of his most polarizing and provocative. I recall reading a kind-of review that absolutely hated it, even though some people give it great reviews. Enter The Void seems similar, so you might like it.

I saw it when it first came out in 3D. It just might be the most beautiful opening sequence I have ever seen in the 1000's of movies that I have seen. (Born in 1948). It was this movie plus the 3D version of "Dial M for Murder" that convinced to upgrade my TV monitor and player to 3D.

A bit cheesy and silly but a genuinely lovely film with a good heart and just a nice film.

For my money, Crimes and Misdemeanors is Woody Allen's best film...would love to know your thoughts after you see it.

The Hitcher is fantastic. Not sure what it is all supposed to mean but Rutger Hauer is great. He is like the Joker.
Big second to The Hitcher...Rutger Hauer is fantastic.

I know I'm probably in the minority on this, but that movie bored the crap out of me.
Did you really see that movie?

Saving Private Ryan? I'm with you on that. Not only boring, but silly.. Looking for one guy named "Ryan" and through the rubble, they see a guy, who are you? "I'm Ryan." Oh great.. end of story... People would always talk about how great the "fight scenes looked" but that's Spielberg... lots of lights but no real substance.

Wut?
Both films are based on real-life media moguls. Both films are primarilly concerned with the irony that these supposedly "great communicators" are incapable of doing so normally with those that they care for the most. Both leave a series of broken friendships and romances in their wake while questing after money, fame and success in the private sector. And both films end on an image of loss and regret, despite having acquired everything that they were claimed to have wanted.

I did read it correctly the first time, I thought you were poking fun at it. I've heard of the porno from some movie site as well.
I'm also baffled at the "Social Network" comparison to Citizen Kane.

I'm not sure if I agree about them being all that tonally different. The other two points I unreservedly agree with. I probably should have phrased it in that I feel that they are rough equivalents, not that The Social Network was a spot-on reworking of it (nor that it was even intended to be).
I have very similar feelings regarding the uncanny similarities between Shane and Drive.

Yep. I think I gave it a 3.5. That score could easily rise with a rewatch. I am remembering it more fondly than what I rated it.
