I'm gettin' myself some porn, so I will be watching it soon... or not. Of course, I'm a weirdo, so it's one 70s flick and one 80s flick with supposedly good cinematography, good music (listened the soundtrack on YT). One of them is made by romp sleaze master Jesús Franco, so I think it's gonna be more of an artsy porn with maybe not even many hardcore scenes. No idea what to expect from Café Flesh. Then again, I may be watching Rules of The Game or documentary movies on Tarkovsky, so you never know.

So far with Fellini (Amarcord) it was't a success with me and as for surreaslistic movies in general I like very few of them, I generally prefer straight forward movies.

The other screen is showing Gaurdians of the Galaxy and Winter Soldier, but wifey doesn't like those. I don't go out to the movies much; the last ones I saw out were Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Hangover II, and The Departed.

Yeah, you can bring whatever you want pretty much... they dont check what you have....

people used to bring a grill and cook out before the movie.. its cheaper to bring your own food...

I thought about the drive-in the weekend .. since I took a vacation day this Sunday..

I know we are going to see "Guardians of the Galaxy"... perhaps I will suggest the drive-in to the kids...

But WHY?

I liked the story of power and a rich man's decline, in a way, but I was honestly just kind of bored throughout. The camerawork was fantastic I must say. I just wasn't moved as much as I had hoped. I wasn't compelled to stand up and clap and say "what a masterpiece!" The final twist had already been spoiled for me, so that didn't help much either. It didn't really leave me thinking about it that much, honestly all I could really think about by the end of the movie was how much I had to pee. idk I just don't think the movie was for me.

When I first watched Citizen Kane, I wasn't a fan of Orson Welles. The film changed that for me.

Film buffs will say movies like Citizen Kane, Casablanca and Lawarance of Arabia are great masterpieces. But that high praise can work against these films. It sets up an expectation in the viewers mind that what there about to watch will be sublime. It's hard for any film to live up to that type of crucible.

Citizen Kane didn't have the most emotionally moving story. It doesn't deliver a powerful gut wrenching, movie watching experience. It's beauty, like the beauty of Casablanca is in the craftsman ship of the film.

Personally I was blown away by the artistry of Citizen Kane. But not every great movie speaks to us all. As long as we find our own joy in film, then it's all good.

It was one of my very early watches and it was an instant favorite of mine. I LOVED it. I immediately accepted it as the best film ever made. I never thought it was boring or whatever negative adjective some people say it is.

That's probably why I can't relate with anyone who doesn't understand why it's such a masterpiece (even people who are very early in their time as "serious movie watchers"). They also never seem to offer any real arguments, except for "I don't get the vibe that I have with other movies".

I found Touch of Evil to be a lot more enjoyable, which is why I rate it higher, but really, as a cinematic achievement, no true cinephile can deny Citizen Kane's greatness. But Touch of Evil was proof for me that Welles, as Ebert once said, could make a great film even with a hand tied behind his back. Or something along those lines.

It's also important to think about WHY you didn't like a film. I notice that you can't give any arguments, besides saying that you "didn't like it". You have to think about films and analyze why a certain film works and why others don't. If you can't do that, you have to excuse me (and certain other people) for not taking your opinion too seriously.

I don't mean this as an attack to you! I like you, you're a good guy. I just think it would be more interesting if you started giving more constructive criticism. That way people will empathize with your opinions much easier and they won't question you as much as in this case. It will also give your own film experiences a much deeper and more satisfying dimension, believe me. ;)

I can usually handle movies that aren't necessarily very entertaining as long as they bring something new, but honestly Citizen Kane rather bored me. (this isn't me calling the movie unoriginal or anything of the sort, I'm in fact saying this movie WAS original for this) I had seen the whole "rise and fall of a character" thing many times in more recent pictures, and I'm sure Citizen Kane started that, but since I had seen it so many times before, and in a more entertaining way than Citizen Kane did, I was just kind of worn out on the subject of the movie. I'm sure that if I saw the movie on opening day, I would have been blown away, but in a time when movies are faster paced, I've unintentionally become accustomed to those faster paced movies. When comparing Citizen Kane to more recent pictures, it just doesn't compare in entertainment value imo. When every movie takes something from Citizen Kane, actually watching the original makes it seem unoriginal. I had seen just about everything from the movie before, just because every movie after it had used it. If I saw this when it was a new movie, I'm sure I would have been thrilled. But in all honesty, it just isn't made for audiences who are used to the fast paced movie style of today.

Yes, there's a very moving personal story in Citizen Kane, a parable tale of the simply things that we can lose in life, when money and power comes into play. The children's sleigh was symbolic of a lost a childhood.

I hold Citizen Kane in the highest regards, hence my ID name pays tribute to the film.

http://img.soundtrackcollector.com/movie/large/Lilja_4ever_(2003).jpg

One of my all time favorites. I don't know how I stumbled across this online years ago. I think it was in 2005 or 2006. Oh yeah that's right, it was after I saw The Bourne Supremacy. I loved the scene where he goes and tells the girl that her mother didn't kill her father and then commit suicide, he killed them. That scene was really cool, I just loved it, and I was so curious about that Russian girl. I wanted to know if she was in any other movies so I looked her up. I finally found out who she was, Oksana Akinshina. And she had done this movie, Lilya 4-ever. When I saw the trailer I was so intrigued and I hunted around for the movie. I couldn't find it online and I couldn't find it at obscure video stores. They said it had never been released so they couldn't get it. I was so bumbed out. But I decided to look on ebay and found it. I figured it was probably just a burned copy but it was better than nothing so I ordered it. Man I was so excited when it arrived. I had built my expectations up pretty high and I was really worried that I was going to be disappointed. Oh boy did this movie ever surpass my expectations and just totally blow me away. It was everything I was hoping it would be and more. My top ten list on this site is really just a handful of my more obscure favorites. But this one hasn't left my real top 10 list since the day I saw it. Sadly the copy that I bought off ebay got destroyed in a flood, so I don't have a physical copy of it anymore. I've probably watched it about a dozen times, but it has been a while since I last watched it. I just suddenly had the urge to watch it again, so I'm just going to watch it online. I like it a bit more than Show Me Love, by the same director, Lukas Moodyson. Equally good in terms of quality, but I think the content of Lilya 4-ever is much stronger.
