This is an interesting one. It's a movie from a cheap DVD set, Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror. Classic Holmes movies (Basil Rathbone) were earlier than this, horse and carriage stuff, stories set much earlier, but he was time-shifted to the 1940's, a semi-propaganda movie, set in 1942 in the darkest days of the Battle of Britain. Holmes is not solving routine crimes, but tracking down nazis, although in his usual style, accompanied by Dr Watson (Nigel Bruce). He's no longer wearing the deerstalker hat, but something contemporary to the 1940's. It's quite a period piece from that dark time, an old hero, resurrected to what was the present.

An old favorite, which has long since morphed into an unflattering description of some people....C.H.U.D....Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers. I'm watching this old favorite, a classic '80's monster flick. It's not to be missed by anyone who likes flix like this. It stars Diner guy Daniel Stern, scream queen Kim Geist, not to mention John Goodman as "Guy in Diner".

It's that 80's version of New York, where everything is falling apart and the streets are always wet, and the cops all are cynical wisecrackers. Things only get worse when you add reptilian monsters.

In its own right it’s no masterpiece, but I thought it was a reasonable take on the situation. I hated Billie Piper but love Gillian and she’s the one who carries the film.

1. Almost done with Cabaret. About a 9/10. Cute story with some good charm and decent characterization, but all the actors feel lame in comparison to Liza and Joel.

2. Gonna watch Suspiria afterwards. After this, I'll have completed the top 100 refresh list. Gonna end that in a big bang. I know nothing about this movie except that there was a remake with Thom Yorke doing the soundtrack.

3. Going to the theaters in the afternoon to see Furiosa. Never saw a Mad Max movie in theaters before, so I'm really looking forward to this.

For some reason, I was sure this was an animated film. Really enjoyed it, actually. Pretty deep analysis of artistic motivation. That said, the trope of men helping women to destroy their own art ‘for the good of their soul’ is revolting. One thing I liked about Hereditary is that it didn’t go there.

This is a rough one....Ghostlight - A "tiny" film, in the sense of a minimal budget, zero FX, no actor you have probably heard of and sets that really do look like someone's living room. A family is struggling with the loss of a son to suicide. The daughter has some serious school and behavior problems that seem related, Dad is having job trouble because of time off from work and Mom is emotionally overwhelmed. Dad tried out for a part in a community theater but the play becomes somewhat like group therapy as the fate of Romeo and Juliet seem to relate to the Son's death. Thankfully, in spite of all of this family drama and angst, there is some resolution at the end.

It's worth noting that the three lead actors, Mom, Dad and Daughter, are exactly that in real life, real family members. Fortunately for them, the event that crystallizes this story is fictional.

I have to go two ways on this one. One the one hand, it's an excellent piece of small, personal drama, portrayed really well, by actors who seem completely committed to the roles. On the other hand, being in the mood for some dinner and a movie downtown on a weekend night, it was way too much believable angst for me. I kept looking for some comic relief. It took a long time to get to some resolution, but thankfully there was some resolution.

I heard great things about this, made by a guy who worked on Star Wars and Alien, and was made mandatory viewing by the entire cast and crew of Excalibur by the director after he saw it. The original film was lost when the studio moved, and was found again years later. I've never anticipated a short film more.

Just downloaded a movie today called, 'In a Violent Nature.' It's a slasher film that actually received very solid reviews according to Wiki. What's different about this slasher movie is most of it is filmed from the killer's perspective. Hoping it's good. Really liked it (which was to be expected, to be fair). I think I loved X from the get-go, whereas this one I just really liked, so not quite there. Some bits of it were just fantastic though, especially the clothes and the street atmosphere. Maybe a little bit too meta to give that proper horror feeling, but I loved the music and the vibe, and the wholly positive, non-cheesy, upward ending (so rare these days). Debicki also fit in well, I thought. Thought I was imagining Kevin Bacon, but no, this was him.

I watched this a few nights ago. Was surprised to see it got highly positive reviews. I also liked how the majority of the film is from the killer's perspective. I think you'll love it if you're into slasher films.

I reviewed it in Rate and no, it was a disappointment to me. It wasn't brutal enough and not enough kills.
