I was going to watch I Escaped from Devil's island, but I've had enough of the bitterness and hatred between warring countries for one day thanks to Casualties of War, so I'm finishing up the night with a charming little 20's bit, The Cradle of Courage. Lambert Hillyer movies are good short fodder for filling up my movies list and balancing the ratings distributions. The story's cute, but the delivery feels off.

Took your suggestion and watched this last night. I can't remember if I saw it in 2007 or not...:rolleyes:

It was a good story but the number of melodramatic "speeches" put me off. It's one of those movies where an actor gets to stand in front of the camera and give a 2-3 minute monologue, which, as much gratification as it likely gives to the actor, they're painful to watch more than once or twice in a picture.

Still, the story wasn't bad. I think Amy Ryan as the mother of the kidnapped little girl was superb in her odious role-- best of the film really. I won't be going to Boston anytime soon...:D

Casey Affleck was almost tolerably believable in his part, but his girlfriend played by Michelle Monaghan was miscast IMO. She was too cute and innocent looking.

Those type of inner city crime dramas don't usually age very well, but this one held up okay.

I'm watching JOHN WICK 4 right now.. What a Great movie with actual closure at the end like the BOURNE ULTIMATUM, but leave it to Hollywood to go to the Well one too many times for success with a 5th installment and I just think that's a bad idea..

Mads is great of course, but when is Mads not great. Some action is good. Without Phoebe, it might have been okay. I think the word I’m looking for is ‘condescending’ — that’s how that one feels — and how else could it have gone, really, with Phoebe and her snobbishness. I cannot believe how ****ing annoying this woman is, it’s truly quite remarkable. Not to mention we again have a 37-year-old playing a ‘student’, albeit a postgrad.

Ok, the remake or reboot of The OMEN from 2009 with Liev Schrieber & Julia Stiles was not one of the better remakes and only goes to show that sometimes some things should be better left alone.. Next movie I'm now going to watch is with Angelina Jolie titled "Changling" about a woman in 1928 who had her son kidnapped, the police searched endlessly for her son and finally found the boy claiming to be her son, only she claimed he wasn't, but the police insisted it was..

I'm a fan of tectonic science and this one is a favorite in the realm of tectonic junk - Dante's Peak. We have a cute, small northwestern town, tourist season, Pierce Brosnan, Linda Hamilton and a supposedly dormant volcano, the Dante in the title. Being a disaster movie, of course, there has to be stuff blowing up, people running and screaming, rescues and such. Before the blast, we have Brosnan and Hamilton, making eyes of sensual desire, cute kids, visiting scientists and a sad back story about Brosnan's character.

What we all know, however, is that like any disaster movie, we really want to see the disaster. When it comes, it's pretty good, a small town wrecked by a volcano, and the usual running, screaming and driving cars real fast, dodging falling lava.

Boy, did that scare the shit out of me as a kid. Not a single horror film came close. I refused to go on holiday to Germany after that because ‘there are mountains there’.

Volcanos have long been one of my favorite not-so-secret fears. That's why I live on the East Coast where we don't have volcanos. Of course a collapse of that one in the Canary Islands would swamp us with a biblical tsunami....east coast or not.

One of the most annoying things I’ve seen in ages. Awful, ridiculous and bloody endless, laughed out loud at most of the idiocy. Read a few raving and one scathing review beforehand and thought, ‘Surely it can’t be that bad…’ Yeah, it absolutely can.

Tonight is the night for Curse of the Demon - it's a fairly low budget, 1957 British film about a guy who meddles with things that should not be meddled with, notably a curse that sets a demon on somebody. Unfortunately, the curse comes to him and he must find a way to get rid of the curse before the curse gets rid of him.

It's a fairly crude, black and white movie, starring Dana Andrews, full of wind blown draperies, sudden storms, the moors, candles in the dark, spells, a magician and seances. It does have a demon. The FX on the demon are actually pretty good, even though you only get fleeting glimpses. Even the fleeting glimpse is enough that I don't want to see that demon because it's obvious that when you do, your numbers is up.

The DVD came with another version of the movie, Night of the Demon. After I watched "Curse" I read that the "Night" is a version where the result of tangling with a demon are revealed in more graphic detail. I'll have to try that one later.
