Originally it ended outside the house with Jill in an ambulance. Dewey is crying and Gale is comforting him because he believes Sidney is dead.

Then a paramedic comes out of Kirby's house and says, "We found one alive. A woman."

Dewey then lights up and says, "You mean Sidney?"

And CUT TO BLACK. A cliffhanger. Because this was meant to be a new trilogy.

I'm not sure, but I think the plan was for Jill to still be alive in Scream 5. She gets away with it -- for now -- while Sidney probably has memory problems and can't remember what happened. Note that Dewey mentioned Sidney might have trouble remembering things when he talked to Jill.

I don't like how fast Dewey and Gale realized Jill was the killer. I mean, just because Jill knew Gale was stabbed in the shoulder, that's a big giveaway? What if she knew from the news?

When she said about them both having the same wounds, I thought she meant from previous attacks (Scream, 2 and 3). It felt weak at the time when he worked that out. You could almost hear the writer trying to think of a way to get Dewey into the room.

I wish we could see a movie where Jill was alive, though. I think it would have been an incredible twist for the series if we actually saw the movie from the killer's POV. That would have been really surprising.

SCREAM 4 SPOILERS

I just wanted to add on that, yeah, it's really obvious, I feel, that Jill is the killer. I'm sure a lot of people didn't see it coming, but to me, the biggest giveaway is simply the fact that I felt that Jill never seems like "new final girl" material. She never exhibits much innocence or even really that much softness -- she's always angry and bitchy and moody, at her ex-boyfriend, at her mother, at being trapped in the house when she wants to go out, etc. She was rude to Sidney at Olivia's house ("She said you're the angel of death!") and she never does much to seem like she's in danger.

I think it would have been a lot more effective if Jill had been written to play the part of "new final girl" more by acting like it -- having more scenes where she's terrorized by Ghostface by herself (without Sidney there) -- even if she's faking it for people. She could have been doing that for the camera, since Ghostface was supposed to be filming the murders and attacks. We could have had a chase scene or something with Jill running around the yard/house from the killer -- you know, really making us believe she is the new final girl.

Instead, she just sort of stands around all bitchy-like, moody and pissed off. She never seems that important. It's a dead giveaway, I think, that it's her. Whereas, if they had really played with her trying to be the victim, trying to make it look like she really was in danger, then Jill being revealed as one of the killers staging her attacks would have been a lot more shocking. She has one small chase scene upstairs to Kirby's bedroom, but then she's told to hide under the bed and we never see her again until she's revealed as the killer. Instead, the focus is too much on Sidney. We see Sidney run around the house, on the roof, etc. It should have been Jill doing that. Would have been a lot more shocking, I think.
