Oh, I love Season 3. I think season 4 is better, (and John Lithgow gives the kind of performance that people think Tony Hopkins gives in SotL) but I liked Season 3 a lot more.

Yoda
11-26-10, 08:17 PM
I can always count on HK to have the exact opposite opinion I do. I like all four seasons quite a bit, but I think season 3 is probably the weakest. Not much weaker than the others, but a bit. But really, I find all of them far closer to each other in quality than I do in any other show of at least as many.

I don't know if I could choose a favorite, though. I like the other seasons for very different reasons and it's hard to parse it all out. I usually have stronger opinions about this sort of thing, but it really goes out the window with Dexter for whatever reason.

Anyone mind if I move a few of these posts to the Dexter thread, by the by? I'd love to drum up some more discussion in there, particularly about the current season.

honeykid
11-26-10, 09:14 PM
What can I say? I'm an unusual guy. :D

I'm fine with moving the posts, though I would say that Dexter's only upto season 3 on dvd and season 4 on tv over here. I only mention it because I'll definately stay away from anything I think will be season 5 related and other non N.Americans may do the same if they don't want to find anything out. Season 4 had less impact for me because I read something about one of the actors in another programme. It's hard not to put 2 and 2 together.

Yeah, finished season 3. Really really enjoyed it. I know nothing about season 4 other than Lithgow is in it and it's considered to be the best season yet, so i'm very excited and feel like there is so much more to come. I was a bit worried with the first couple of episodes in the season. Didn't like the vibe and wasn't so sure Miguel Prado as Dexter's partner could be an interesting plot development. I felt like they had crossed similar territory with the Lila character in season 2, but I was quite surprised at how compelling the relationship was given the predictability.

I think season 3 is probably the weakest. Not much weaker than the others, but a bit. But really, I find all of them far closer to each other in quality than I do in any other show of at least as many.

Yeah, as much as I really enjoyed season 3, I too find it to be SLIGHTLY weaker than the other 2, and that's basically for the reasons highlighted in the spoiler tag. All are very close in quality like you said though. Sort of like The Wire.

You forgot GI Joe, another horrible film he has his name associated with..

There's one thing I noticed about Levitt,
He acted with Channing Tatum in Stop/Loss, Tatum was cast alongside him again in GI Joe.
He acted with Lucas Haas in Brick He was once again seen with him in Inception.

Too much of a coincidence?... I think he recommends them & not the other way around.

My Exorcist Blu Ray arrived this morning and I'm as happy as a pig in muck. The thing about good restorations of older films on to HD is that it gives some semblance of what the movie would have been like in the cinema in its heyday As The Exorcist was made the year I was born I very much doubt if I'd have been taken to the picture house to see it.

My dad was more of a Westerns man. ;)

Also chuffed that Friedkin didn't ruin the colour timing as he did with his abortion of a French Connection Blu Ray. The old fella is learning, who'da thunk it?

The whole flippin' town seems to have closed down today because of a bit of snow. Rush hour on the road outside Tatty Towers consisted of a Land Rover, a former business partner driving a proper American monster truck (he's a bit of an idiot) and a couple of yummy mummys desperate to drop little Jonathan and Chloe off at the (probably closed) primary school so they can hold their coffee morning in peace.

Where's that wartime spirit gone? There are hundreds of ex-paramilitaries around the country who could be out helping old women get their shopping and digging out cars stuck in snow drifts. A 32 County Socialist and Gritted Republic! :D

By the way, if you've got any sway with Dunnes, tell them to hurry up and open a store in Dungannon. There was a site cleared for them about a decade ago and due to a SNAFU by Our Glorious Council it's been derelict all this time.

I hated writing psychoanalytical takes on fairy tales. I'm guessing you can't just make it easy on yourself and stick with Freud? Whatever the case, you have my sympathies.

Still, Milka chocolate is yummy. What kind of bar was it?

My granny's 95th birthday party has been cancelled today (thank god - no disrespect to my uncle who organised it but expecting people to come from all over the country in blizzards was mental), my stepdad, who is working overseas, is due back tomorrow but all the airports are closed and I've got a load of presents which I bought online still stuck in transit.

I heard NI had the snow pretty bad. There isn't a great time for loads of snow but right before Xmas like this causing family plans to be cancelled is terrible. Your granny won't be on her own on her birthday tho will she ? We've just had a couple of inches of snow overnight but as we live on this really steep hill, once the snow has been compacted by the first few cars it turns into one of those ice slides you used to make in the school playground.

Hope they can get the airport open soon. it can't be much fun hanging around in airports :(

Nah, my granny has family all around her so she's fine. :)

We've had about 8 inches of snow here but my part of the country didn't do too badly - there's been a foot or more in the north.

My stepdad's plane (from Thailand) was cancelled because Heathrow is apparently closed today but he's on a later flight and should arrive in London tomorrow morning. Hopefully the airports over here will be open for the final part of the journey. ;)

Contemplating my future. I'm at a very bad place right now. This year has started off badly to say the least. Accusations are a huge weapon whether or not they are justified. The accusations pointed at me are nothing short of terrible. I just don't know how to deal with these things and I am not sure where it's all gone wrong. What I do know is that you can never truly trust somebody you THINK you are close with. Some people want to see you fail in life no matter what, and it is extremely important to realise that before it's the end. My best advice for my fellow Mofos is not to trust anyone. It's a common philosophy but so true. When you think everything is alright it doesn't always mean that. You can be the nicest person in the world and you can always be the type of person to strive to do the right thing but at the end of the day, there are people out there with their own problems and insecurities and they want to project that onto you in order to demonise you in some really messed up way. It's ruthless but there are people out there who won't think twice about such things. The moment you suspect that, you end all ties with that person no matter what. Just some advice.

Tacitus
01-02-11, 02:05 PM
Christ mate, you sound at a low ebb.

Trust is a funny thing and when it's gone the way back is a tough one. I lost that trust once, mulled it over and tried to build it again but it was never the same. I lost it a second time and said enough was enough.

It's hard, I know, but there are trustworthy people out there. :)

Actually, for me, it is like crack! Always liked Rockstar's stuff, big GTA fan. And the kids are teaching me how to rob trains and set folks on fire. Note to myself: remind kids in real life, not to lasso people and throw them on train tracks....

Heh, you've done that particular Achievement then. :D

I've played through RDR twice and the second time was straight after the first. Can't remember the last time that happened.

What I did second time around was not bother with any of the side missions and strangers' tasks until you've finished the main story. Seeing as the world remains open it kinda made sense to have something substantive to do in it.

Wow Australia is a harsh country :scream: we have been having a drought for many years :yup: Now it has been raining so much in Queensland it is now flooding :( 75% of the State has been declared a disaster area  People have been killed and many are still missing :bawling:

Those floods in Australia are shocking.

I'm kinda in shock myself today. It was all over the news yesterday that the daughter of the Tyrone football manager Mickey Harte had died while on her honeymoon in Mauritius. Today they're saying she was strangled. Our family have known the Hartes for years and Michaela was the loveliest, nicest girl you could ever hope to meet. She taught Irish in the school next door to me here.

What is it they say about pride coming before a fall? Oh yeah, 'pride comes before a fall'.

I've been spending the last fortnight locally crowing to friends and family that I must be immune to this flu that's going round... You guessed it! :(

Further to a few posts above, Michaela's funeral is on Monday and I hope I'm well enough to go. We paid our respects to the family a few days ago though. :)
