I'm still working on my 2001: A Space Odyssey review. I wrote four pages in Word yesterday, only to wake up this morning wondering, "What is this crap I've been writing?" I decided to delete it and start over. This is easily the hardest film I've ever written a review for. I love the movie on so many different layers, that I'm finding it extremely difficult to even come close to giving the film the justice it is due. There are so many complexities and philisophical statements within the film, not to mention the style, and story itself, that I'm have difficulty keeping a train of thought flowing along without it branching off on every small detail within the film. Mainly because there are no small details within the film. Every small nuance that Kubrick placed is vital to the overall understanding of what his messages are, because there isn't just one message. What I need is Golgot's non-linear mind to break things down for me, because this film is an intricate puzzle, each small piece stands alone and also belongs to the larger picture. It is a masterpiece of the highest order. Ugh, I'm frustrated. I'll keep plugging along.

i liked some parts of it...i just had alot of problems with it, especially the writing, it was like they couldn't decide weather ot not they wanted you to laugh or cry, also it didn't seem very french and I loved 'The Three Musketeers' and I think one of the reasons why I loved it so much was Keifer Sutherland and John Malkovich- well he just doesn't add up...Jeremy Irons was excellent as usual

LordSlaytan

I liked it too, it wasn't anything to write home about, but it doesn't deserve to be flushed down a toilet either, like, for example, Torque.

It's funny Cait'; when I read that you use the word a-hole, it makes me think that you talk like that in real life ;) . Here's what I imagine: Cait says to someone she's really mad at, " You friggin' a-hole, I can't believe you're such a son-of-a-gun! Now get out!" It was definately fun to watch, if not just for the charcaters Aramis and Porthos, but the french revolution and the events leading up to the french revolution and that period in France just in general have always sort of been sort of a hobby of mine to research. So when I see things that are historically incorrect or not very well explained, which was the case I felt in 'Mask' it bugs me. Also I just hated Di Caprio as Louie but then again thats always a compliment to the actor because if they play a jerk that convincing they force you to hate them, I'll give him this though- he did an excellent job showing the difference between the two men and it didn't seem that fake either although I did feel that Louie came off a bit as the cliche snobby-bratty-i'm-king-you-must-obey-me character.

A vole is a little animal, sort of like a woodchuck or a mole or something....I can't really describe it, but I have seen one once.

Right now, I am listening to the X-Files Soundtrack and thinking about something kinda weird: On the X-Files CD, the band Filter has a song called "Thanks Bro." In the last few years of the X-Files, the singer of Filter's brother, Robert Patrick, was actually the star of the show.....okay, maybe it's only weird to me. But the band Filter did do a lot of music for the X-Files.

Right now im meant to be writing a short story, of about 3000 words for an assessment for a creative writing module as part of my degree. im trying to find anything that can distract me. Its 1.30 in the morning and i wanna sleep i tell you!

Wanna read the first part of my story? If ya dont....TOUGH.

Story of a Day

11:28 am

The phone was ringing. A lot of the time, any news Kelly ever received directly from her mother was greeted with a false smile and a roll of her hazel eyes. But Kelly answered that phone with haste, and as she heard her mother’s stern, strong voice, she wept to her and told her for the first time that
she loved her.
Her mother told her to pull herself together, put on some make up and demanded that she take her to the market. They had lunch in that wine bar on the corner of the high street. Her mother had the leek soup, her favourite, and she sat with her napkin in one hand, dabbing her mouth after each tiny sip. She then spoke to her about how Mr and Mrs Routledge, (her neighbours) had kept banging their doors all night long so she couldn’t sleep and was ‘tired as a dog’. Then they took a walk around all the charity shops whilst her mother dropped off various items and smiled with smug satisfaction as she walked out knowing she was a good citizen. She then drove her mother home, kissed her on the cheek and told her that she would be over on Monday to take her food shopping. Then as she drove away she rolled her eyes at her mother’s departing comments on how her cardigan looked like an old carpet. Then she wished that her closest friend wasn’t her mother. Then she arrived at her one bedroom flat (‘no central heating, must supply own washing machine’) above “Maloys Newsagents” and…

But the phone wasn’t ringing. Kelly lay in bed and the phone stayed silent as she began to slowly slip into the painful recognition that she was waking up, and every memory from the day before began to shake her body.

White light was burning through her closed eyelids. She awoke wearing the same clothes that she had fallen asleep in, and slowly the memory and the pain of the day before came surging back. She moved towards the light that was creating a red haze and fumbled around trying to close the curtains. It must have been way past nine o’clock as the day was so bright. Kelly Prestan’s eyes were still red from her crying. She had started the night before but now as she stood in the dark room she couldn’t remember when she had stopped. As she stood staring into her bathroom mirror, she was not surprised at how old she suddenly looked. ‘I’m the only woman left’ she thought as she inspected her bloodshot eyes. She came out of the bathroom and sat down on the edge of her large double bed. The feelings were worse today. So utterly empty. It was the first morning that Kelly would wake up and her mother would not. Yesterday she was still there in the morning, making her breakfast, doing the gardening. And even yesterday afternoon when Kelly found her mothers body sprawled on the kitchen floor surrounded by the whirring hand mixer and debris, she was still there, her body, dressed in that floral dress and her snow white blouse, now a burnt image against the terracotta tiled floor. But now where was she? Lying on some slab. A cold plate. Suffocating in a white sheet, label on toe, grey faced. No more lip stick, no more foundation to hide the wrinkles she gets round her eyes. No more rouge on her cheek. No more shopping. No more phone calls nagging her daughter about how she needs a husband. It all stops.

Aren't 3 day weekends great? You get a chance to do all the things you want during the weekend that you don't normally get to do during the week.

Take me for instance:

Today I did some spring cleaning. Meaning put sweaters and jackets away. Dusted the blinds (JEEZ that's tedious!) Mopped the floor. OK just so you know I have wood floors throughout my house! Dusted the cobwebs--It's frightening to me how many spiders consider my house their home--what the hell are they eating? I mean, I sucked so many webs into my vacuum that it felt like I lived in an abandoned building!

Oh and wait! I have a new puppy who thinks that my entire house is a fire hydrant! Gah! It's like I live in a giant kennel! *mumble*, damn *mumble*...dog...*mumble*...*mumble*!

Aren't 3 day weekends delightful?! Happy Memorial Day!

ALWAYS ask the girl out. Don't have a time in your life 20 years from now when you kick yourself in the ass for being a wussy.

Usually I'd tend to agree with you, but I work with the girl so should the worst come to worst and she rejects me :bawling: It would make for a really awkward working situation.
