I've just had, as they say in the trade, a result and a half...
I liked my TV but the more I watched it on HD settings a few little niggles were starting to annoy me - some ghosting with text on 720p and faint visible vertical scan lines on blacks and greys on 1080i (over 6 feet away from the screen you couldn't see them but I knew they were there and it bugged me, especially if they were to get worse). There were two months to go on the warranty so I phoned up the store where I bought it and they agreed to replace the whole set rather than repair it. Disposable culture, eh?
I drove down to the store, TV in the boot of the Tattymobile, and discovered that they no longer sold the model I had (a budget brand, to put it kindly). They had, however, a shipment of new Sharp Aquos LCDs coming in next week and, as a promotional offer, they were the same price as my old one.
I gave the display model a quick test and ordered one on the spot. Job done!
Just don't ask me to watch any movies for the next week. I've moved the portable TV out of the bedroom but it's like trying to keep track of gnats while looking the wrong way through a pair of binoculars... ;D

OMG, I am SUCH a gadget geek! But I was poor for a number of years, and I still either get incredibly guilty when I indulge the addiction or I just wait and search out bargains. But I LOVE my gadgets. It's probably a good thing I don't have limitless disposable income.

Iro - there are loads of anti-delete programs out there. I've not tried it but you could see if something like this (http://www.bestfreewaredownload.com/freeware/t-free-glary-undelete-freeware-hfzvyoes.html) will help. Even if it's been deleted by mistake, everything should still be there on your drive. You'll only get major problems if something else has overwritten the part of the drive that Windows has decided is now 'free space'.
I once formatted a 320GB hard drive by mistake and managed to get 95% of the stuff back with one of those programs, if only I could remember the name of it.

Tatty Café should be open for business in a month!
Do you know how to make blueberry pancakes... I'll probably be in the mood for some by then... :D
Kitchen sounds like it's going to be really nice... Before and after pictures?
About to finish my shift here at work and I get the next 4 days off, well off from here anyway. I might even go watch a movie in the next day or two - at the theaters even.:)

As you can see - it badly needs updating. The kitchen is the only room in Tatty Towers that hasn't been touched since I moved in - the front porch doesn't count as a room, Annie! Just in case you're lurking, the answer is still 'no'. :p
Blueberry pancakes? Would instant pancake mix and blueberry jam work? ;D

Welcome back!
Just back home from the cinema. Went to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with a girl in my course (of which i am infatuated with (she is beautiful)). Thought the movie was also beautiful. It was so intimate and so sad (especially the scene near the end where daisy is holding Benjamin's hand and there walking down the road.)

I am in a really bad mood tonight... it seems my aunt, who has cancer, can no longer take her pain meds by mouth... and the Hospice nurse made the comment she probably doesn't need them anymore anyway... which really irked me because I think she was just trying to avoid doing the paper work it would involve to order her the patches...

I realize that most nurses work very hard for a living, but they cannot unilaterally decide that their living is somehow worth more than your aunt's living. Make sure that the nurse does NOT GET AWAY with this. Quality of life may be fleeting, but life is still worth preserving and making as painless as possible.

Thanks Mark... my aunt has the patches now and there is a nurse who is probably not too happy with me right now. I know that my aunt's time is very limited but the remainder of that time should be as free of pain as possible....

Here's a quandary - My neighbour asked me to fix her car and when I popped the bonnet (I believe it's called 'the hood' in the Colonies ;D) I noticed that it had been in a pretty serious smash at one time (she only bought it a few weeks back).
Do I inform the old dear and risk her feeling less than content every time she gets in it or keep schtum, safe in the knowledge that she's only gonna be pootling around town in it rarely getting out of 2nd gear?
Hmmmm

Id definatly tell her mate, If she has anothet bump her fault or not it cause her more harm than good.

What are you going to tell her about "fixing her motor-car"? Did you already do that? Is this smash going to cause future problems? How close are you to the old dear?

I didn't do much - fan belt adjust - but the little car has been in a pretty major front-ender. That was apparent, even in the half-light this evening. It wouldn't surprise me if it was an insurance write off, fixed up in a back street garage and sold at the side of the road (she gets her cars from a family friend, apparently, and has had nothing but trouble from the last couple). I'm pretty close to her, actually. She's a lovely old dear. :)
It's probably fine for all the driving she does but I definitely wouldn't want to have a bump in it at anything over town speed limits. I just keep thinking that telling her will do more harm than good - I dunno if anyone here has been in the situation where you imagine something's not quite right with your car and how it plays on your mind. Slightly awry tire pressures become a suspension failure waiting to throw you over the hedge, that sort of thing. ;)
I didn't do much - fan belt adjust -

Could you tell her that it is an ok car, but not to go on long trips in it, at least that is close to the truth :yup:

I'd rather collar the joker who got the car for her, now that I've had time to sleep on it. ;)
A friend of mine owns a body shop and I'm gonna get him to have a look at it and see if it can be repaired to a better standard (I'll send him round with a new fan belt - just been off the phone to him - and he'll be able to have a quick look). He'll not tell her anything but his opinion will give me some more ammo.
